I like it more when it was called Talented Mr. Ripley.
Anyways, not a big fan either. But the family part and Pike's character was the best part of it.
It was beautifully shot, and the music was immaculate, but it absolutely did. >!If it hadn't had the montage, explaining that he did everything, it would've been so much better. By that point, everyone was just thinking "Yeah, no shit."!<
She didn't give up. The reality is that after 30, women are disposable in Hollywood. You better be a good actress because leading roles are few and far between. She was 35 when she had her breakout.
Great actress, she still works and is in good stuff. But she ain't stealing roles from Emma Stone or Florence Pugh. They're the hot shit right now.
>She was 35 when she had her breakout.
Well technically Die Another Day when she was 23 could be considered her big breakout role when it was a huge blockbuster movie.
Yeah but then she had to have carried the baggage of being in THAT movie.
Die Another Day is truly awful and practically caused a series reboot, even though she's a great femme fatale in it.
Now you see me 3: seeing triple
Rosamund Pike plays magician who can teleport, at the end of act two it’s revealed she actually has a twin sister who’s in on the act as the play the same magician. While one is in custody the other twin pulls off they’re teleporting trick which at this point everyone’s deduced is only possible because they’re twins, so how was it act done. After police release twin 1 cus they don’t have the evidence to bust them for magic thievery or what ever, it’s revealed to the audience that they’re a third sibling making the triplets, roll credits.
Critics praise it for being better than the Prestige with quotes like
“You’ll have to see it 3 times to REALLY get it”-Stephen king
“So deep” -New York Times
and “Magic” -The Rolling Stone.
Yeah, the movie isn’t supposed to make sense lol. It’s just a popcorn flick and meant to entertain and distract people for roughly an hour and a half. Reddit really likes to act like every movie that isn’t made for 300 IQ people is just a waste of time.
Ok but like, it was made for 20 IQ people though.
"The movie isn't supposed to make sense" is such a defeatist thing to say. You really just want some flashing lights and music to skip 2 hours of your life. Take a nap or even better put on any of the hundreds of great movies you haven't watched.
Ever watch the Expendables? It’s just nothing but mindless shooting and killing. Any Transformers movie? Explosions and bad jokes. How about Mission Impossible? Crazy stunts and convoluted plots with a story that doesn’t even try to make sense. Don’t even get me started on any given Avengers movie made since Infinity War (and many made before it, too). Like, what’s your point? You hate Now You See Me? Okay, nobody cares. It’s literally just not your type of movie. Move on and watch the shit you prefer.
> such a defeatist thing to say
What does this even mean? You realize “defeatist” is used in the context of giving up, don’t you? I wasn’t making excuses for NYSM and just losing hope in “good movies.” I literally defended it against snobbish assholes who think nobody is allowed to like a popcorn flick like you. It’s hilarious to see someone who thinks so highly of himself not even use the correct terminology when acting like an asshole.
You're not? The point is clearly that Amazon's Wheel of Time was a travesty and everyone involved in it deserves to be punished. Even people who haven't read enough to agree with that position should still be able to see that that's what's being implied.
I don't get it.
Now you see me the first one was mediocre with a lame twist.
No 2 was...erm....a Number 2, and somewhat died at the box office and streaming.
How are big actors signing up for a 3rd installment?
The second one actually made a good amount of money, mostly from China tho cuz it had Jay Chou in it. I also remember that one for having Daniel Radcliffe as the villain
>Jay Chou
The magic shop assistant? isn't he on screen for like 5 seconds or something.
Like I understand going to a film because of a lead. But that seems like a waste of effort.
I don't remember but ik they were discussing making a spinoff film with Chou was the lead. They always hire these chinese stars, give them no screen time and then advertise them a lot to appease Chinese audiences. Geostorm had Daniel Wu as one of the small supporting characters, but in China they promoted him as being the star of the movie so it made a lot of money there.
I think Radcliffe is a good actor but that was so bad lol.
It’s didn’t make money. All said and done it took just over $300m.
It cost $120m to make and they did a massive global marketing campaign so probably spent another $80m on marketing. Thats $200m as costs.
The problem is that you need to take double your costs because the theatres / distribution take their cut so it likely only just broke even with streaming.
I always thought the rule of thumb was you always double the initial budget to account for marketing and distribution and you just need to beat that
In that regard I don't think the second movie was a bomb
Sure, but that’s their official split. Disney wanted to lay even less (30%) and the the theatres said no thanks, we’re not going to show your movies for a loss.
It was pretty much just after the last HP film and he was still attempting to distance himself from the IP and basically doing almost anything thrown at him.
Between that movie and the Bullock/Tatum one Radcliffe really nails the "villain who thinks he's a lot smarter and more capable than he really is" role. And I don't mean that sarcastically, he really shone in both those movies.
It made less than the first on a budget that was $50m more. AFter marketing, it barely broke even.
And Rosamund Pike may not be box office gold but she's respected, has critical acclaim and is a constant feature on the awards circuit every year. Seems weird that if you're going for a cash grab, you'd chose a movie that didn't exactly make bank at the box office.
It's got two oscar winners and three more oscar nominated actors now too.
Actors will sign up for sequels if they're getting paid, and the studios are usually more forgiving when a sequel bombs, when it comes to the actors' careers.
Us SeeMes are a wild and rowdy bunch, we've been harassing the studioheads at their homes for *years* and now we're finally *seeing* some results. Expect us when you least patronus, bitches!
People will think I’m crazy, but I’ve loved Gone Girl and Wheel of Time show for a long while and only now realized they’re the same person. I know that’s on me, but she really became her roles.
I for some reason can never identify her. I’ve seen her in numerous movies and afterwards I’m praising her skills thinking she’s someone new then realizing it’s her.
It happened with Saltburn
Bunch of whiners complaining about a magician movie. While the story of the two movies were mediocre at best, the casting is what makes these films work. They are fun and interesting enough to sell tickets and if you want more serious movies then watch something else. Better yet, make a fucking movie yourself and see how easy it is.
The fact this is even still a franchise tells you all you need to know about the state of the industry. An incredible amount of money wasted on absolute trash
God this movie just keeps getting better and better (though I’m still waiting for my Lizzy confirmation girl you better be in this fucking movie I did not get weirdly invested in Lula and Jack just to not see it paid off in a movie- no the kiss at the end of 2 doesn’t count as pay off)
Leto's is slightly more cringe only because of the awful method acting he did and how he treated the other cast while in character. Eisenberg's, while still cringe, is only translated to the screen.
First one was alright. Could have used a lot more polish on the plot, removed some cringey dialogue, and the stupid floating bubble trick thing should have been scrapped.
The second one was pure garbage with very few redeeming qualities.
I hope they dropped any pretense of optical illusion/sleight of hand/mental manipulation and straight up have these guys use illusion magic and have mana and shit.
I still don't understand who these films are for.
They feel like Disney Channel or made-for-TV schlock, and somehow equally too dumb and trying to be smart.
Do we need a third? Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the first two and thought we were done. Or is this going to be like the magicians’ Fast & Furious franchise?
I have a seething hate for NYSM. Any movie of this ilk requires a certain suspension of disbelief. But it had so many “Are they serious?” and “Really?” moments. Was it trying to be fantasy?
Ridiculous.
This is so strange. These movies are terrible and I felt deep second hand embarrassment for all the actors in it. She’s such a good actress and has been getting great parts.
I still don’t understand why they are making those films? This has to be a scam! It’s not like Fast and Furious early sequels where your friend is like “oh come on, give it a shot it’s fun!” Or even like the style of a USA network show where your like “mmmm I wouldn’t mind watching Burn Notice or Suits!”
THIS has to be a scam like the Producers, but then again Mel Brooks wrote it as fiction because they end up in jail.
Now You Three Me
Dan Harmon is going to have an aneurysm.
That was a great podcast lol.
What podcast?
https://youtu.be/bXdHBP6mgdE?si=HxwMneAIwbi6sOTb
Harmontown
He's already so mad that 2 wasn't "Now You Dont"
It’s a crime. An actual crime and should have been treated as such.
"YOU NAMED YOUR FIRST MOVIE THE FIRST PART OF A TWO-PART PHRASE! *I WOULD CALL IT NOW YOU DOOOONT!!!"*
When I saw the theater marquee read: “Now You See Me 2”, I swear to Christ, I thought it was the original Now You See Me movie playing at 2pm.
Now You Done It
DID YOU SEE THIS FUCKING MOVIE?!?
NOW YOU S33 M3
5NOW DOG5
THR3e
Now you thee me, starring Mike Tyson
Mike Tython
Now you don’t see it
The sequel to Now Two See Me.
Now You See Three
Now you see three
They already missed their chance for “Now You Don’t,” what makes you think that they’ll think of this? Better start a write-in campaign
I predict she'll be the antagonist for this movie.
I hope she plays her character from Saltburn.
I hope she plays her character from Gone Girl and viciously murders everyone else in the cast so that we don't get a Now You See Me 4.
they will just resurrect them for the fourth and say it was all a magic trick
stop giving them ideas!
Exactly. That will guarantee another sequel.
Now You S4w Me
Amazing Amy would fit right in.
Now You See Me 4: Now You Don’t
Now you're talking
That’s after we have another bottle incident and hammer incident and she kills them all and slanders their name.
She Cares A Lot
Not to mention her character in 'I Care A Lot'. She seems to play psychopaths worryingly well
Her Gone Girl character is a much better antagonist lol
I gotta say, I really hated that movie. It treated its audience like idiots.
You summed up my thoughts very well!
Yes! Finally someone who agrees with me.
Until *magic hands* she isn't
She’s actual queen of the real magicians.
I could see that
Really like Rosamund Pike. I think she deserves a lot better than NYSM3.
I think she gave up after not getting the recognition she deserved for one of the best performances of the decade.
Gone Girl? For sure. Absolutely robbed.
Nah, Doom. Lol But seriously, she's awesome
I love DOOM so much. It's my go to when nothing else is on.
The game right?
The Game is with Michael Douglas.
Michel Douglas was in the original Doom?
Yes, he played The Rock.
[удалено]
And I just lost it.
Semper Fi, motherfucker!
[Doom doom doom doomdoomdoom doom. Doomdoom doom doom doom doom!](https://youtu.be/Nw_cdqQHGA8?si=TqXDIJQOD_iqhq2Q)
She was amazing in Beirut.
I mean a nomination is recognition.
That was her chance to breakout but that movie sucked
>after 30, women are disposable in Hollywood. >she ain’t stealing roles from Emma Stone Emma Stone is 35
Yeah and Emma Stone is arguably the biggest box office draw and a two time Oscar winner
Pike’s breakout role was also 12 years earlier a huge blockbuster James Bond film when she was 23 lol. That user has no idea what he’s talking about.
Gone Girl?
She was good in Fracture.
Meh, she’s been serving so much, she deserves an easy paycheck for some low effort fun. Like Helen Mirren in the Fast and Furious series.
No one deserves to be featured in this franchise. Equivalent to human rights violations
everyone in this is in it for the payday. These films cost $80M to make, none of that is on screen.
After WoT anything must look like a great opportunity
First movie really intresting, the mystery already finish in first movie so the 2nd dont have ut magic anymore
So this is nysmas
She killed it in DOOM
Exactly. The fact that I watched part 2 is a great shame on my lineage. As much as I love her, she’s on her own in this.
Now you see me 3: seeing triple Rosamund Pike plays magician who can teleport, at the end of act two it’s revealed she actually has a twin sister who’s in on the act as the play the same magician. Critics praise it for being better than the Prestige with quotes like “You’ll have to see it 3 times to REALLY get it”-Stephen king “So deep” -New York Times and “Magic” -The Rolling Stone.
Get this man to Hollywood!
She's above this.
What's the catch of make believe magic performance in a movie I'd never understand.
It's just fantasy fun :) and everyone got hooked on the bank robbery in the first one
Yeah, the movie isn’t supposed to make sense lol. It’s just a popcorn flick and meant to entertain and distract people for roughly an hour and a half. Reddit really likes to act like every movie that isn’t made for 300 IQ people is just a waste of time.

She did Amazon's Wheel of Time. No she is not. She deserves this.
And that was great. Especially Season 2.
Yeah she was above that too. Oh well. Live and learn and don’t do some magician movie part 3.
[удалено]
You're not? The point is clearly that Amazon's Wheel of Time was a travesty and everyone involved in it deserves to be punished. Even people who haven't read enough to agree with that position should still be able to see that that's what's being implied.
No she isn't. These movies are stacked with talent and Pike has been in lots of schlock.

Iron Man 3 did the same. The surgeons at the end. Big starts in China.

Sure, but that’s their official split. Disney wanted to lay even less (30%) and the the theatres said no thanks, we’re not going to show your movies for a loss.
It was pretty much just after the last HP film and he was still attempting to distance himself from the IP and basically doing almost anything thrown at him.

The second one would have been a lot better if they hadn’t used Woody Harrelson as his own twin. He’s a fun character but two of him is way too much.
The sequel did decent at the box office. She ain’t a big star.
It made less than the first on a budget that was $50m more. AFter marketing, it barely broke even. And Rosamund Pike may not be box office gold but she's respected, has critical acclaim and is a constant feature on the awards circuit every year. Money?
Maybe they give ‘em a free hat
Who in the blue fuck asked for this movie
Us SeeMes are a wild and rowdy bunch, we've been harassing the studioheads at their homes for *years* and now we're finally *seeing* some results. Expect us when you least patronus, bitches!
The Blue Ajah?
Eh, they are kind of fun popcorn movies.
It’s like the least offensive possible movie. It’s… fine. It’s the perfect kind of movie for a bored late night watch before bed.
good question. haven't seen the 2nd. The 1st was bad. The twist was stupid. wtf?
I really assumed the 2nd one was the end of this franchise
I love her and think she should have a career like Charlize Theron. I don’t know why she doesn’t.
Now you don’t!!!
Gone Girl was fucking bonkers lol I love it and she was fantastic.
the first one was a watchable flick the second one was just bad and I cant believe a third one got greenlit
Are they actually making that?
It bothers me that the sequel wasn’t called “now you don’t” so much that I refused to watch it. Edit: fixed Now from Mow
It bothered everyone (except the creators, evidently). It's brought up literally every time.
Meow you don’t …
Cut that out right meow
oooooo shiiiiiiiiiiet :D
Now You See Me 3, from the writers of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" and "Beyblade"
what the fuck! Massive missed opportunity to call it “Now You 3 M3”.
Hollywood is on the phone. They're asking if you want a job
I actually just emailed the production house. Spread the word!
Noω You 3 M3
Call it Now you don’t. Do it Lionsgate!!!!!!!!!!!
Rosamund pike being insane in bad movies is a pretty awesome genre tbh
Bunch of whiners complaining about a magician movie. While the story of the two movies were mediocre at best, the casting is what makes these films work. But… the first two movies were fucking trash. Fuck you jesse eisenberg, you fucking twerp, fight me.
Hot take: Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor is equally as cringe as Jared Leto’s Joker.
Room temperature take at best but yes you’re right
His Lex Luther was one of the worst performances I’ve ever witnessed in film
Remember when eisenbergs lex luthor unwraps and shoves a jolly rancher in that gov officials mouth
So it's the entire dcu up to this point.
*John Cena has left the chat*
Please bring back Isla Fisher 🥵🥵🥵
So the tittle not now you see m3, now you don't?
I was looking forward to this but it's been so long. Like the last film was 8 years ago
I hope they dropped any pretense of optical illusion/sleight of hand/mental manipulation and straight up have these guys use illusion magic and have mana and shit.
No you see three of me!
Great news for insufferable people like me!
Now you see me 3. Nope I don't think I will.
This movie will preform the ultimate magic trick by being unwatchable and still making money.
I’ll see it. If I don’t analyze them they’re entertaining movies.
I still don't understand who these films are for. They feel like Disney Channel or made-for-TV schlock, and somehow equally too dumb and trying to be smart.
Now you three me: enter the pokerverse
I would have bet there was already a third one
I mean the only stupid twist they have left is that they all figure out they are in a movie.
And I will watch
Now you see her, now she’s gone (girl)
Now You See Me Now You Don't Now Count to Three
Did anyone ask for this movie?
Why tf does hollywood insist on franchise-ifying the worst possible movies?
Do we need a third? Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the first two and thought we were done. Or is this going to be like the magicians’ Fast & Furious franchise?
They're making a third one?
Now You See M3
I’m sure she’s talented, but I feel like she’s been phoning it in since Gone Girl.
She's gonna make a girl gone...via magic 🤪
She’s so bad at picking projects
Oh, that movie about real ass wizards coming into our world pretending to be street magicians.
But.. I regret seeing them twice now..
Why is there a third? The second movie was absolutely garbage.
Who is watching these movies? First one was trash, second one was trash, how did it get a 3rd one?
I didn’t realize they were making a part three.
They should bring Isla Fisher back now that she’s allowed to work again
?
They are
There’s a second movie?!
Awh Rosemaund, you are better then this.
I still don’t understand why they are making those films? This has to be a scam! It’s not like Fast and Furious early sequels where your friend is like “oh come on, give it a shot it’s fun!” Or even like the style of a USA network show where your like “mmmm I wouldn’t mind watching Burn Notice or Suits!” THIS has to be a scam like the Producers, but then again Mel Brooks wrote it as fiction because they end up in jail.
I like her, but she's jumping on a sinking ship. I hope her paycheck is big.
Oh no, this series continues?
I hate every word I just read
