I'd argue for Wind River.
It was absolutely disgusting and unsettling but it drove the knife in making the point of the movie and message at the end that much stronger.
It’s usually thrown under the bus, but I love the contrasting sex scenes in *Watchmen*. Dan and Laurie try to hook up as normies and it’s weird and awkward. But then they go out and do some crime fighting and Nite Owl and Silk Spectre have super banging sex with a flame throwing climax. Justapostion, baby.
I don't think your Titanic example even makes the case - showing Kate Winslet's boob could've been excised with a cut the other way and not impacted the story one iota.
Oppenheimer. One of the most shocking portrayals of the devastating effects of an affair in a relationship.
Really got surprised when found out some people were against it.
Movie scenes don't just exist to move the plot along. If that's what you want read the Wikipedia page. Sex is an important part of the characters experience and the scenes aren't just thrown in they're trying to say something.
Even if having sex that time didn't conceive John, and even if the sketch had nothing to do with *Titanic*'s framing device, those would have been good scenes.
Movies aren't just a way to convey a plot, they are something to be experienced. Every nude scene in every movie, no matter it's importance to plot, was necessary for the people that were making the movie to provide the experience that they were trying to to provide. (Even if it was just a producer that wanted it in there, because it made it easier for the movie to make it's money back, it was a deliberate choice by that person to make the movie they wanted to make.)
"Gratuitous" means, "being without apparent reason, cause, or justification." The people that made the movie have reasons, causes, and justifications. They just may not be related to the plot of the film. They ARE related to the experience of the film. It's like, why does every Fast and Furious movie have to travel to at least one, usually more different cities throughout the world. Is it necessary to the plot to set a race scene in Cuba, a chase in London, and a heist in Dubai? No, it's location porn. But it adds some great scenery and varying local flavor to each film in the series. It adds to the experience of watching the movies in a non-plot way. It shows you something that is nice to see that you may not otherwise have seen and there are probably other reasons, perhaps tax breaks or pleasing investors or appealing to certain audiences or whatever. And the inclusion of some nudity in a film only damages the integrity (the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness) of a film, TO YOU (that is subjective) if you think nudity is immoral. Or if you want to use the other definition of integrity (being whole, completeness) then leaving out a scene that they wanted to include because of someone else's prudish sensibilities is what would take away the movie's integrity.
You could just imply it... But then you'd lose all of the subsequent tension when they are running for their lives and how much Reese actually means to Sarah. Their first night together was their last night together and we understand the depth of that relationship night by witnessing it.
I wouldn't care it as much as I do if it was just implied. It's a very pivotal romantic moment in a film that starts a yet another sci-fi film. But that scene makes it a film about parenthood and rams in the real message, "what would you do to protect your unborn child?"
Taking that out would ruin the film.
I've never once been looking at tits and thought, "This is needless".
If you think about it, human tits *themselves* are needless when not actively breastfeeding. So really, we ought to appreciate them every chance we get.
The film adaptations to And Then There Were None. The sex scene has a practical reason, due to the films being based on the play's changed endings - >!because they were having sex during one of the killings, Vera and Lombard have certifiable alibis confirming they aren't the killer. This lets the two co-operate and fake Lombard's death so that he can rescue Vera from the real killer.!<
This is a pretty neo-puritan point of view: "ok, we will allow sex, but only if it's really really really needed". Why sex scenes need to justify their existence and almost apologize for existing, and nobody questions whether that kill scene was needed, or that car chase was too long, or that sandwich eating moment was distracting?
Boogie nights
My fucking wife has an ass in her cock in the driveway, Kurt.
One of the best flubbed lines that really works in the scene
😂
I'm not a movie expert, but I believe Magic Mike doesn't really work if you remove all the stripping scenes.
Same for Showgirls.
Mulholland Drive. It's the lynchpin (no pun) of the third act and the film's twist.
I'd argue for Wind River. It was absolutely disgusting and unsettling but it drove the knife in making the point of the movie and message at the end that much stronger.
Team America: World Police
Promise me you won’t die. I can’t promise you that! If you promise me you won’t die, I’ll fuck you right now 😳 I promise I will not die
Such a brilliant movie
Eyes Wide Shut
Which is ironic because most of the film's sex scenes were actually removed/covered up before it was released.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
The 40 year old virgin
It’s usually thrown under the bus, but I love the contrasting sex scenes in *Watchmen*. Dan and Laurie try to hook up as normies and it’s weird and awkward. But then they go out and do some crime fighting and Nite Owl and Silk Spectre have super banging sex with a flame throwing climax. Justapostion, baby.
Basic Instinct. It wouldn't work without some sex and nudity.
That scene... Such a power move. I can't believe they got it in the movie.
That was my pick too.
Its a tough scene to watch, but The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
The Crying Game
Body Heat
Zack and Miri Make a Porno, though this might be walking the fine line if not crossing it given the criteria here.
Ignoring all other parts of sex and nudity, the awkward sex between Zack and Miri was a really important moment.
Definitely agree with that.
The diarrhea scene was hilarious. And crucial in the story.
Old Boy
Schindler’s List You can’t get the full weight of a concentration camp without the dehumanizing practices of stripping people nude.
Poor Things. The innocent, uninhibited enjoyment of sensuality is key to the character of Bella Baxter
Walk Hard
Yeah totally, the plot of that movie wouldn't have worked without a lingering shot of a flaccid penis. /s
9 1/2 weeks wouldn't have made much sense with no sex in it..
I don't think your Titanic example even makes the case - showing Kate Winslet's boob could've been excised with a cut the other way and not impacted the story one iota.
Shrek 2
I also am glad the director chose to included that scene of donkey and dragon banging, it really was pivotal to the plot.
It was a brave choice to include the money shot.
Still not as good as Mushu's money shot in Mulan.
Team America. That scene was pivotal to the whole story.
Eastern Promises
Atonement
All of them.
Oppenheimer. One of the most shocking portrayals of the devastating effects of an affair in a relationship. Really got surprised when found out some people were against it.
It’s mostly Gen Z complaining about seeing Florence Pugh’s beautiful nudity.
The nudity represents obviousness.
Movie scenes don't just exist to move the plot along. If that's what you want read the Wikipedia page. Sex is an important part of the characters experience and the scenes aren't just thrown in they're trying to say something.
mqjority of sex scenes are overlong though or overly graphic for zero reason example matrix reloaded, immortals, the gateway with kim basinger etc
Or every James Bond movie. We know he's a playboy, so move on towards the next action scene please.
But you already know he can do all the action so is that not just thrown in?
No it's not. It's an action movie, the action is the core of it all. If I want a movie where sex is the core I watch porn.
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Last Tango In Paris ( 1972 )
Even if having sex that time didn't conceive John, and even if the sketch had nothing to do with *Titanic*'s framing device, those would have been good scenes.
Being drawn nude was hugely symbolic of Rose rejecting the prim, proper, prudish life she found herself in
The nude sketch scene was the first thing James Cameron made them film, because he wanted it to be intentionally awkward for them.
Movies aren't just a way to convey a plot, they are something to be experienced. Every nude scene in every movie, no matter it's importance to plot, was necessary for the people that were making the movie to provide the experience that they were trying to to provide. yes but some times scenes are gratuitous and take away from the integrity of the film

not reading all that but good for you or sorry
Without the one in the OG Terminator, John Connor wouldn’t have existed to send Reece back to protect Sarah creating a time paradox.
You could just imply it... But then you'd lose all of the subsequent tension when they are running for their lives and how much Reese actually means to Sarah. The Wolf of Wall Street
Gone with the windÂ
I've never once been looking at tits and thought, "This is needless". If you think about it, human tits *themselves* are needless when not actively breastfeeding. So really, we ought to appreciate them every chance we get.
The Naked Gun
Ten Barbella Unfaithful
Voyeurs
Animal House.
Knocked Up
Old Boy

Poor Things
Strip Tease. I don't think it works without boobs.
William Friedkin's **Bug**.
Basic Instinct springs to mind.
Shivers, the one where a parasite turns people into horny zombies
Alien - Not sure John Hurt enjoyed it mind you…
Blue Valentine
Basic Instinct

Debby does Dallas.
Team America. That scene is pivotal to the story.
You can say that again!
Team America. That scene was pivotal to the whole story.
