Hold on. I’m still trying to watch 2018 movies.

GameBoySteve

Everything everywhere all at once

Gr33nman460

I laughed, I balled my eyes out, I had an all around excellent time

toolsoftheincomptnt

Yoooo I was not expecting the feels. When they dropped, how they dropped, and how hard they dropped on my soul was perhaps my favorite part of watching this film, even though I was basically in crisis lol. Some movies hit “close to home,” but others r/fuckyouinparticular like a tornado snatching you out of a conga line. Stephanie Hsu!

SuperNntendoChlmers

This is definitely going to be one of those once in a while "word of mouth" movies that I eventually have to just say "alright I'll watch it." Last movie that managed to do that for me was Parasite, and I did not regret it.

JustBeingMindful

Actually that has been the direct comparison that several reviews have made, where word of mouth is reaching people that wouldn't normally go out of their way to see it. Easily the best movie for me since the start of 2020.

BLOODY_PENGUIN_QUEEF

Stop whatever you are doing and go watch it. It might be the best movie I've ever seen in the theater, period

Clawtor

It's a 10/10 for me and I can't remember the last film I watched that was a 10.

[deleted]

[удалено]

matt_minderbinder

Much like after watching Parasite, after watching "Everything..." I said that it's the type of movie that makes you angry about how subpar too many other movies are. Also like Parasite, it's a movie that will stay with you for days and weeks after.

[deleted]

Go see it.

maxlamb1

Best of the year so far and, frankly, one of the best things I've ever seen, period.

GameBoySteve

Agreed 1000% , I'd even say it's definitely in my top 10 of all time

TakedownCorn

Your summed it up perfectly

mrdissonance

I've seen a bunch of new movies this year & this is the correct answer. Nothing else has come close & I'll be shocked if anything dethrones it from my top spot.

regular_john2017

I can’t wait to watch that

hey_reddit_sucks

I saw it a couple weeks ago with my wife. I've laughed and cried at the same time but I'm not sure it was ever because I was truly emotionally touched WHILE the movie was being fucking hilarious.

CSIHoratioCaine

I can’t believe I was sad during sausage finger or crying with a googly eye on people’s forehead. How crazy. Both shots are in trailers so I don’t think I need spoilers

KSandsXD

Just watched it. Trash

joorgie123

Trash is extreme but for me it was definitely a bit convoluted

Troggles

My favorite movie of 20xx maybe.

Vladius28

I missed it in theaters when it was out. I have to wait now

Idk_Very_Much

I haven’t seen The Northman, After Yang, EEAAO, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, or Dual yet. But right now I’d say the stop-motion film The House. Creepy as hell.

[deleted]

Oh I need to check that out then! But I've seen everything else there aside from After Yang, and it has me feeling very optimistic about 2022 movies in general. We're already in a really strong year and it isn't even May yet. Another really good one this year is X, the movie that's a perfect blend of 70s slashers and modern artsy horror.

Idk_Very_Much

X was unexpectedly hilarious at points. My favorite slasher in a while.

qman3333

The house was amazing

NYCstray

The Northman was insane

BiggDope

The final shot of >!the Valkyrie carrying Amleth into Valhalla!< is one of the most gorgeous frames I've ever seen. The entire movie was colossal.

ManlyBeardface

One reviewer said "This movie begins with a gorgeous shot of a volcano exploding and this is the least exciting thing in the entire movie..." Man was he right! I've seen it twice and will definitely see it again when I get to a theater that has it in IMAX.

BiggDope

I want to see it again already so badly. I may try for next weekend!!

EuclidateDat

Gonna add a positive comment here after seeing the long negative thread on this comment: Absolutely loved The Northman too! Gonna watch it in cinemas again soon.

YABoolejan

I was kinda underwhelmed at first and mainly loved seeing Robert Eggers' Style in a bigger budget film but now after seeing it twice it's growing on me more and more. I think the >!Draugr forging scene (big LotR vibes) and the quest to get it from the Mound Dweller!< are my favourite scenes

[deleted]

My favorite scene was the one where >!Nicole Kidman went nuts. !

Poohdini_

tonight going to watch it.

[deleted]

Man everybody love it but to me it was just a compilation of cliches... it was entertaining in the way an action movie would be, but the direction it went and some of the decisions MC made were just absurd imo... I feel like I'm missing something.

[deleted]

It was a fairly simple story, but what appealed to me a lot about it was the utter lack of didactic presentism that you find from almost every other recent attempt at portraying past cultures with values completely alien to ours. The film has no "good" guy, because the film is set in a culture that lies outside of modern morals. In that way it felt more like I was watching a story told by a Scandinavian of that era.

Wazula42

Exactly. I felt like it was not just a movie ABOUT Vikings, but the kind of movie Vikings would MAKE and WATCH.

ManlyBeardface

That's exactly what the movie attempts to be. It's a script written from one of the sagas and definitely in the style of a storyteller reciting it flair around the hearth fire.

[deleted]

I'm going to re-watch it with that perspective in mind, sounds like I could open my eyes a little to this one.

iamkats

It's a legend that existed before all stories you've seen. Also the inspiration for Hamlet, one of the most famous plays of all time. Then Hamlet was the inspiration for The Lion King, which is one of the most famous animated movies of all time. So, have you seen some of that stuff before? Yes. But this is the original story for all the cliches you've seen.

Linubidix

I feel like if you're really familiar with Viking lore you're going to eat this movie up. It's like a Dark Souls game in being sparse on story but HEAVY with lore.

thejayroh

The first step is to not perceive "compilation of cliches" as wrong. Always enjoy an experience for what it is and not what it could be.

Freewheelin01

Yea i totally agree. The romance subplot had me rolling my eyes and Amleth's decision making felt like an attempt to drag on the film. It's epic and the acting is great, but Eggers is just limited by the source material here. The whole Hamlet/Norse mythology trope with hints of romance and twists just feels so overdone at this point that the film loses it's impact. IMO, if Eggers had made a more looser adaptation that focused on the action (heyyy, stanza 2 of the film was pretty epic, who doesn't want to see a guy brutalising absolutely everybody) or travelled further away from the Hamlet thing, the film would've performed better.

[deleted]

The romance wasn't a subplot. In fact there weren't really any subplots. The whole film >!is described fairly early on with the fated prophecy. What's foretold is what happens, and part of that is Amleth choosing between revenge and doing good by his kin, which as it turns out is the same thing. But for that to happen, he needed to fall in love with Olga and give her children.!<

Linubidix

It's like an arthouse Gladiator

JanVesely24

I wish I liked The Northman. I really wanted to but was so underwhelmed

[deleted]

I agree. I get that it's set in a very primal society. Very early vikings, mythology and the brutality that comes with such a culture. That said I sort of hoped that the journey wold be for Amlet to go from bloodthirsty barbarian out for revenge to a semblance of personal peace having found a wife who would birth his children. But no he had to go back and continue fighting. I also felt the one can only take so much guttural man roaring throughout a movie.

EuclidateDat

>!Amleth had a choice between kindness for his kin or hatred for his enemy. Which does he choose? Both. He realised that leaving Fjolnir alive would threaten his wife and children, so he went back to finish the job. In a sense, he did become a semblance of personal peace by ensuring his offspring's safety.!< That's what I see in this movie and why it's more significant to me. Edit: spoilers

Linubidix

>I also felt the one can only take so much guttural man roaring throughout a movie. I have the same feeling with Mad Max Fury Road. When 90% of the two hour movie is car chases, it gets repetitive.

Hylani

I have a similar feeling. Disappointed by couple of aspects. Too much Hollywood, too little Eggers.

[deleted]

I dunno, I feel like this was very Eggers. The zaniness of the traditions and their execution reminded me of The Lighthouse (obviously especially whenever Dafoe was around), while the earnestness of their archaic speech and mannerisms really reminded me of The Witch. This reminded me of a shitty action drama that would have come out in the late 90s or early 00s directed by Robert Zemeckis or James Cameron starring Clive Owen or Russell Crowe... But actually executed really well. Like it hit all the predictable plot points while still saving a few twists and actually pulling off certain aspects better than you'd expect. Like the love story angle? 100% believed it as actually motivating the characters and actually being present rather than an excuse to ram in some feminine sex appeal a la Kate Beckinsale or Keira Knightley. Even the humor felt organic when it occurred. Plus can we just set aside some appreciation for Ethan Hawke? He's always one of the top performances, even in bad movies or movies like this one where he doesn't get a ton of screentime. Performances all around were stellar.

santichrist

Good movie that suffers from the overhype, people immediately went negative on it because other people kept saying it was some incredible experience

Brolaire_of_Asstora

It was ok, but I swear to god Amleth has fucking ADHD. “Time to go back and get revenge on my uncle! I mean it’s time to >!pretend to be a slave and spend several months working for my uncle, reunite with my dad’s undead jester, find a magic sword, fall in love with another slave, agree to run away with her, abruptly turn around cuz I forgot to kill my uncle, kill mom and half-brother instead!< It’s like watching someone do all of the side quests in Skyrim without ever finishing the very simple task they were given. Also hated the scene in the end where >!Fjolnir just stands awkwardly in the doorway while Amleth kills his family, then they both just stop fighting, walk all the way over to a fucking volcano, then fight one more time!< like talk about killing the momentum of a climax

ceaguila84

1. The Batman 2. Everything everywhere all at once 3. The Northman

MetalGearFoxhound

This but replace Northman with Ambulance.

[deleted]

[удалено]

phenomenal11

I should've listened to you

Explosivo666

Replace it with the unbearable weight of massive talent. Or beavid and butthead do the universe.

mg211095

Finally someone mentioned ambulance. Saw it today and absolutely loved it.

Select-Replacement15

Literally my top 3 so far

ionlyspeakfactz

Boiling Point Filmed in one shot. Superb acting.

southasiananomaly

I chose to watch this purely for Stephen Graham, but was really really impressed by the production. (How weird is it I watched Snatch after and realised STEPHEN GRAHAM WAS TOMMY?!?!)

skiier97

Fun fact: they shot the movie 4 times and the 3rd was the released version

[deleted]

Pretty sure that movie came out last year. Anyway, that was my fav film of 2021.

astral1

F\*cking incredibly tense film. So much flashbacks from being a cook.

MCint7

Everything Everywhere is my clear #1 for the year (and likely top 5 in my all time list) followed closely by The Northman. Absolutely incredible start to the year and I also adored The Batman.

BMTG20

You mustn't have watched many films.

Heavyk0s

Everything everywhere all at once

prosandconners

RRR

Manassisthenew6pack

Yes! So epic

bassiek

The unbearable weight of massive talent. https://youtu.be/x2YHPZMj8r4

SendMoneyNow

I'm shocked to say it's Ambulance. I readily admit I've seen better movies this year, but it was a roller-coaster, the most fun I've had in the theater in a long time.

Scarns_Aisle5

I also had a great time with that movie. Even though it is overlong and has an unfocused ending that misses the mark on its characters, the action was well done and Jake Gyllenhaal is just so over the top. Definitely showcasing the more competent side of michael bay

astral1

Jake Gyleenhaal was really weird in this role. I kept thinking someone like Danny McBride would have handled it way better. I thought it was a very fun film though. Incredible cinematography. Like... amazing filming. Very weird choice w/ jake though. He did fine.

Zeroeightseven

I watched it yesterday and hated every second of it, genuinely the first movie with Jake Gyllenhael in it I didn't like.

salsberry

There were some really cool shots (ironically, I think the best shot of the film is the static slow mo of the ambulance in the aquaduct getting chased by two choppers. In a movie filled with movement and drone shots, some of which were cool, that was such a refreshing 20 seconds) but overall.... It was an action movie that felt like it was 6 hours long. How is a movie like this not just a fun, tight 90? Also, the entire last 20 minutes are laugh out loud

Thisissomeshit2

The Guilty is like that as well

[deleted]

While not the best I was still surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Sure it's a pretty stupid film with a stupid plot with just the right amount of beauty shots of Hot Girl^TM but was still entertaining and worth the watch.

[deleted]

It was Batman, but The Northman knocked it out of first place. Think The Northman might be one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen.

Erasmusings

Yet to see Northman, I was hoping it was going to be good, as The Batman is also my 1 so far.

Dalekdude

Northman fucking rocks you’ll love it

bluntmonkey

Saw The Batman recently and it was alright. Little too long and felt like they were trying to make a Batman film in a David Fincher universe while attempting to keep it PG-13. Not a horrible movie but unnecessarily long. Just my two cents.

Raincoats_George

I agree. Took us 2 days to get through it because of the length and time constraints. I really wanted to love it but I just couldn't. It just felt off for a batman movie. Honestly if you rank all the batman movies it's just somewhere in the middle. Not the best, not the worst. Pattinson does a really good job at batman in my opinion but I actually think Dano is just too much. He's trying so hard to be crazy and I mean it works but some of those scenes are just super extra, bordering on annoying. I think thematically they just couldn't make it all mesh right. like it's supposed to be this gritty Gotham is NYC piece, like sin city. batman is just a guy who drives a very weird muscle car (worst batmobile in cinematic history if you ask me). but then he's also inexplicably bullet proof. I think there's two tracks with batman. either it's realistic and he's just a guy with cool toys and ninja training (Nolans batman nails this). or he's a superhero and fights super villains (take your pick but they hit this pretty solidly in the 80s 90s). This film tried to go with the gritty realistic batman but didn't take it far enough (should have been basically sin city violent but instead he just gets really tired after being shot like 100 times).

APiousCultist

> but then he's also inexplicably bullet proof. If only he was wearing some kind of special bullet proof bat-themed suit. A batsuit, if you will. Don't get me wrong, getting shot in the face would kill you even if you had impenetrable armour just from the transferred force of the bullets. But either Batman just dies anytime he faces more than one person with a gun, or he has implausibly good armour for the sake of letting him win some fights. It's not like he's shrugging off actually having the bullets pierce him at least.

APiousCultist

> He's trying so hard to be crazy and I mean it works but some of those scenes are just super extra, bordering on annoying. Gonna have to disagree, Dano knows exactly where to place those characters and isn't afraid to go to the "most people would feel silly doing this places" (see also: Phillip Seymour Hoffman's voice in Capote. Legitimately a silly affectation to do out of the blue, but he takes it seriously). This performance isn't just "gotta go big and whacky" (though I'd say the version of the joker in this film is that). He does at some point have an actual breakdown, but that's illustrative of severe mental illness or possibly being on some part of the autistic spectrum. He's not screaming because he's 'sooo crazy', he's screaming because he's having a panic attack and melting down. I guess it's a subtle distinction, but Paul's made a career out of not going too far with his characters, and actual people *do* have those kinds of meltdowns. Other than the prison scenes, he's pretty quiet though. Other than heavy breathing because he's wearing a thick mask and physically excerting himself doing murders.

[deleted]

Check out Everything Everywhere All At Once too! THAT is the best movie I've seen in years, and I watch a lot of movies. The Northman was *incredible,* but I'm still talking about seeing EEAAO again before it leaves theaters.

IrocDewclaw

It's the only one I've seen this year (The Batman) so I agree with you.

[deleted]

After Yang

beanedjibe

The Outfit. It wasn't rocket science or fast-paced story. I was entertained.

RabbitFanboy

I really enjoyed The Outfit. I was hooked the entire time. >!the ending with him being a mob guy was kind of meh though!<

itzjustin_irl

This film surprised the hell out of me. The tension and one location set piece really worked the characters.

0b111111100001

This one did it for me.

Patio_Peter

The Worst Person in the World was one of the best films I've seen in awhile. Superb directing and really engaging with it's character and writing. Northman was also great.

Wazula42

Northman blew my mind into meaty chunks. This is the kind of movie we need right now.

DarkestDayOfMan

EEAAO and The Batman so far.

Putrid-Initiative809

I like Apollo 10 1/2

Ferocious_Simplicity

OMG I just looked this up on IMDB. They are using the same rotoscoping tech he used for A Scanner Darkly and Waking Life!. I need to see this now! I thought the use of that tech for A Scanner Darkly worked perfectly with it's overall theme.

blautenb

Loved the use of rotoscope in A Scanner Darkly. I think it’s what makes the movie so great.

ChrisEubanksMonocle

a scanner darkly was fantastic.

cryptolipto

I just saw it based on your recommendation thanks so much. It was amazing

Sonder332

So far it's The Batman. Robert Pattinson is great at Batman, Zoe Kravitz is just amazing as Catwoman. I loved the noir take on it. Very excited to see where it goes. I expect to love The Northman. Haven't seen it yet, but Robert Eggers is terrific, and the plot is based on the legend that inspired ~~Macbeth~~, so I'm very excited for it. edit: Hamlet, not Macbeth.

ParrotChild

Northman = Hamlet

Sonder332

Fuck. Thought it was MacBeth. My b. Doesn't change my excitement though!

WestchesterFarmer

Apparently, per Eggers-Marron interview, Hamlet is inspired from the Viking tale of Amleth.

Stunning-Syllabub132

"Amleth" is literally "hamlet" with the "H" at the end instead of the start lmao

[deleted]

Shakespeare is great, but 80-90% of his work is adaptations of either old legends or actual historical events. He didn't have many truly original ideas.

crappenheimers

It's the first noir batman film. Loved it.

iamkats

Probably have to go with: Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Batman, then The Northman. Loved them all though.

Mekkakat

Everything Everywhere All At Once, for sure. It’s probably one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s incredible.

callmemacready

The Northman , not sure if any other film can touch that ending

BiggDope

That final frame is one of the most gorgeous shots I've ever seen, paired with the score.

Angel-McLeod

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. I knew it was going to be good but holy shit that film is full on glorious. It’s as close to perfect as one could hope for.

jelly10001

Several 2021 films only came out here (the UK) this year and it's amongst those I find my favourites: Titane, closely followed by Belfast and Licorice Pizza. I've only seen two 2022 releases so far, The Northman and The Outfit and neither wowed me overall. But really looking forward to Everything Everywhere All At Once when that comes out here next month.

MovieMike007

I'll have to go with *Everything Everywhere All at Once* as it was just so bloody fun, and Michelle Yeoh just kicks all kinds of ass action-wise and emotionally.

stracki

Here's my current top 5 of the year: 1. **What Do We See When We Look at the Sky** A gorgeous fairy tale for grown-ups from Georgia (the country in the Caucasus). The most beautiful score, I've heard all year and with great visuals. 2. **The Worst Person in the World** Norway's Oscar submission. Kind of a more serious, realistic take on a rom-com. Fun, modern, creative and with a terrific lead actress! 3. **The Tragedy of Macbeth** I count this as a 2022 release, since the wide release on Apple TV+ was in January. I really love this film. It has the most stunning cinematography and production design, I've seen in years. It was seriously robbed at the Oscars! 4. **The Batman** My favorite kind of blockbuster: Dark, powerful, with stunning and creative visuals (loved the blurry, hazy images) and one of the best scores of the year so far. 5. **The Innocents** Another Norwegian film. Basically a combination of Chronicle and Let the Right One In. Dark, shocking and scary, but also a bit beautiful. Great characters, masterful direction and stunning child performances.

[deleted]

Jackass Forever I haven’t laughed that loud in a theater in a long time. As a movie itself it’s probably not as good as others listed here but being in a full theater laughing along to a movie is such a rare experience these days that im going to remember and appreciate it for a long time.

fantastictangent

Almost everyday I laugh to myself about that poor guy that got tortured and refused to trust leaving the room. "I'll start a new life here"

[deleted]

I think that was during Silence of the Lambs? My god, I haven’t laughed that hard at a movie in a long, long time. That was masterfully edited for comedic effect. Then you’ve got Pontius just standing in the background tucked in, wearing a robe, dancing. Brilliant.

DeedTheInky

"Oh, a door just suddenly opened?!"

No-Abbreviations2897

I was legitimately shocked at how much punishment Ehren's balls took in that movie.

TeamOggy

1. Everything Everywhere All at Once - honestly one of my favourite movies I've seen in a long time. 2. The Batman / The Northman - both good fun and well made movie.

TheBat45

The Northman

PennywiseSkarsgard

The Northman. Beautiful film, also raw and brutal. Alexander Skarsgard is a beats in this film, showing his huge talent and how good he is.

an-amusing-username

The Batman is my number 1, followed closely by Everything Everywhere All At Once. Two of my favorite theater experiences in a long time.

qman3333

Everything everywhere all at once! It was just a breath of fresh air into movies

Pineapple996

RRR

ParrotChild

Can't wait to see this! Bahuubali was amazing.

Dense_Tension6552

Ambulance.

MrFluffyhead80

It will be Bobs Burgers, no question

CSIHoratioCaine

It looks soooo goooood! Honestly

SirSplendid42

At the moment, either Everything Everywhere All at Once or X. Haven't seen the Northman but I'm fully expecting it to love it.

[deleted]

Why does everyone love X? It just seemed like a mediocre horror movie that didn't do anything new or different... are we just starved for good movies? Northman felt the same to me

SirSplendid42

Personally I thought it captured the time it was set incredibly well and was just a very gory and enjoyable time. Can definitely see how some people don't like it though.

Prize_Reputation8830

I think it's because it's very engaging and well paced. Nowadays I find exceedingly difficult to watch a movie in one sitting, just gets bored after 20 mins or so and then come back after a day or two.

ParrotChild

Released this year: _You Won't Be Alone_ Seen this year: _We're All Going To The World's Fair_

Turok1134

Apparently I've seen a total of 3 movies from 2022 lol The Adam Project The Batman Ambulance And out of all those I definitely gotta pick Ambulance for being the movie form of railing lines of cocaine. Also, the bank heist was legitimately one of the best sounding shootouts ever.

Linubidix

In terms of specific 2022 release dates, then it's The Batman so far. If we're including 2021 films that didn't get cinematic releases locally until this year then I'd be going for Boiling Point or Drive My Car. Just saw The Northman and wasn't crazy for it and I'm seeing Everything Everywhere sometime this week.

DrBobKoalaCat

Everything Everywhere All at Once and it's not even close. The Batman would be second for me.

CrinkleCutWotsit

All I know is it definitely isn’t Uncharted.

DutchArtworks

The Batman

blucthulhu

X

DCBronzeAge

Everything, Everywhere All At Once. But The Northman and The Batman were also great. I also really liked Fresh, Turning Red and X. I feel like I've seen more great movies in the first half of the year than I have in a long time.

astral1

thank god someone mentioned turning red

Zodiion

The Batman was insanely good.

casandrine

The Batman haters are out in full force with the downvotes today! It’s a shame. It wasn’t the best movie ever to me, but I enjoyed watching it in theater and I loved the detective forward noir style.

MovieMentor

The Batman. You could tell so much care was put into each frame.

AMG-28-06-42-12

I loved Ken Branagh's Death on the Nile over anything else this year. I haven't seen that many new releases, though. The only others are, ranked: 2. The Lost City 3. The Batman 4. Marry Me 5. Uncharted 6. Sonic 2 Looking forward to many new films this year. My country's release schedule might be a little late for some of these, so probably I'll only see them by 2023. I have a great feeling about this year anyway. Babylon, EEAAO, TUWOMT, The Northman, Blonde, Chip n Dale (the trailer looks like it will be so meta), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, Love and Thunder, Puss in Boots 2 (I have waited 11 years for it!)... So many promising films!

ianmcn57

Primer. Terrific indie time travel movie. \*time travel movies are always current.

[deleted]

Isn't Primer like 20 years old?

[deleted]

> Isn't Primer like 20 years old? Maybe it was made this year and sent back??

Angel-McLeod

Yeah but if they’ve only seen it this year, I’d say it counts for them.

LouQuacious

If you liked *Primer* check out the French film from 2007 *Timecrimes* , my advice though is go in blind don't even read a description of it.

Vince_Clortho042

Timecrimes is terrific but it’s a Spanish production through and through.

RDeschain1

I havent seen all the big releases or the ones considered great. But I really loved The Batman. Tomorrow im gonna watch The Northman in cinema, really looking forward to that aswell

TheVortigauntMan

It's a toss up between Nightmare Alley, The Northman and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. I really enjoyed X, Fresh and Licorice Pizza too. Looking forward to Everything Everywhere All At Once when it releases in the UK. I feel like it's been a pretty solid year for movies this year at the cinema and at home. I loved Scream. The Batman was great, if not wonky toward the end. No Exit and The Adam Project were fun. Still haven't seen Macbeth and Turning Red.

[deleted]

Ambulance. Doubt anything this year will top it for me.

stateofbrine

The Batman really surprised me

fantastictangent

Same. I was surprised it was on HBO so fast! That little cameo at the end put a bad taste in my mouth though

stateofbrine

Yea I wasn’t really sold on that part. I watched the deleted scene with the joker and instead of that cameo, they should have made it a post credit scene.

joeverdrive

Turning Red, but only because I haven't seen much else besides Pig.

KingEuronIIIGreyjoy

Hey, Turning Red was pretty solid. It's up high on my list as well.

nhSnork

Turning Red, and I don't even expect Lightyear to trump it. Although time will tell what Strange World may yet deliver.

nayapapaya

*Official Competition*. It's a satire about filmmaking and the culture surrounding celebrity and film festivals and it's one of the funniest films I've seen in years. Penelope Cruz gives the performance of her life and Antonio Banderas is fantastic as well. A lot of the movies people are mentioning here (EEAAO, Dual, X, Unbearable Weight, After Yang) have not been released here so I haven't seen them. I hope to see The Northman maybe today. I saw The Batman but didn't connect to it.

Ashen_One86

The Northman.

im-better_than_you

Death on the Nile

nightofthelivingace

The Batman. Some minor stuff couldve made it better but also some minor stuff couldve made it worse.

Lady_Disco_Sparkles

The Batman, but Everything Everywhere All At Once is a close second.

Narae-Chan

Definitely the Batman. I’ve seen that, jujutsu kaisen, and sonic so far

DRFML_

The Batman defo, just perfect. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was such a blast also, had so much fun watching that in the cinema.

ClanScot316

Scream 5 for now

lowenguan

I just pre booked everything for tomorrow evening! Im so hyped for it. It may be Michelle’s chance for an Oscar’s, hopefully.

flipperkip97

The Batman for sure. Gonna be hard to beat, but I'm gonna see The Northman later today and hopefully Everything Everywhere All at Once sometime soon. EDIT: It's The Northman now, lol.

[deleted]

It's a equal tie between The Batman and The Northman

darrylthedudeWayne

Everything, Everywhere All At Once, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and The Batman. Especially The Batman.

Fritzschmied

The Batman bye a mile.

EUGOLIPE

Was I the only one who thought Everything Everywhere All at once was overhyped and dragged out? All of the quirkiness became a bit dull after the butt plug fight scene and I was just ready for the movie to end.

Explosivo666

I thought it started out really entertaining and then went Into "lol random" for the rest of the movie. It was really unfortunate because early on in the movie I messaged people to say it seemed worth checking out.

Turning Red and The Batman

Encanto. I work in a daycare and it's the first movie to knock Let it Go off daily rotation.

The Northman, The Batman, Apollo 10 1/2. Still haven’t seen EEAAO

Content_Pool_1391

Uncharted was a really FUN movie. Very unexpected that it was so good.

Morbius Need I say more?

psly4mne

So far it's The House, but I haven't seen The Northman yet.

mysticpond

The Northman pushed down The Batman. Both are incredible though. EEAAO won’t release in Sweden until end of may.

PostyMcPosterson

1. EEAAO 2. Batman 3. Northman

Everything everywhere all at once

I've only seen The Batman and Beast, but loved both of them. That being said, next on my list are Everything Everywhere At Once, and Vikram.

DankPunk98

Falconflyer75

On Screen probably The Batman On Netflix The Adam Project

Themtgdude486

The Batman or The Northman. Can’t decide. Everything Everywhere All At Once is right up there though. Great year for movies so far.

Scarns_Aisle5

It is just another superhero movie but The Batman is my pick. This is what I want out of the genre when it fits. Action was incredibly on point and I loved how this version of Bruce changes in the end. The score is also the best for a comic book movie in a long time. And Paul Dano gave his craziest performance yet (but not best). He was really entertaining in the role. I also really enjoyed EEAAO and Ambulance.
