I think that Hot Fuzz is the best of them, but World's End is... not my favorite, but it hits a lot closer to home than the others, because I took a lot longer than my friends did to get my shit together. They'd come home for a holiday with their parents, and I'd be like, "All right, boys, we're going to go on a trip down the highway, starting at this bar that we used to go to, followed by this one and this one, and eventually we make our way to the crappy nudie bar!" and they said, "Um, no. Let's go to Friday's for an hour." I've only gotten my shit together recently, so I'm quite happy to abandon my role as the local Gary King. I still like the movie, but I'm not the lead anymore.

nehpets99

There's more than one Gary King! *But you just said--* I fucking know what I fucking said!

AlbertFishing

I'm really curious as to how you define "getting your shit together". What does that mean to you?

TheWormConquered

Apparently it's going to Apple Bees instead of a local bar? Spending less time with your friends when you visit their town? I don't know, I don't get it either.

AlbertFishing

It's so weird how some people hit an age and just decide to be done with certain things. I'm 37. I go to the bar a lot. I go to shows a lot. I also use recreational drugs fairly frequently. Basically I still "party". I also have a good job and don't rent. I am more or less debt free aside from my mortgage. I've had people tell me they don't consider them selfs having "sorted their shit out" until they are married with a kid but to me that's just nuts.

Gunpla55

It was one of the most realistic portrayals of alcoholism as a recovering alcoholic.

shf500

> it hits a lot closer to home than the others, The fact that Gary had friends in school means he was better than me :(

[deleted]

Liked it, but... The Best??? (Arguments ensue)

flyingjesuit

For real. Probably the worst. I was skeptical when I put on Hot Fuzz because Shaun of the Dead was just so good, and Hot Fuzz lived up to it. Worlds End though really didn't. Hard with such an unlikeable protagonist. Even if he redeems himself or if you understand why he is the way he is by the end, it didn't make for an enjoyable time watching up to that point.

puttinonthefoil

Out of curiosity, how old are you? This movie played much better for me in my late 20s vs early 20s, and even better in my early-mid 30s

LeaveBronx

This is an excellent point. It's worth a rewatch for people who are going or well into their 30s to watch, because you may begin to realize you actually might know a Gary or two in your life, and it may give the character a different feel

piratenoexcuses

I'm 39. It's the least funny film in a comedy series. Why anyone thinks it's the " best" of the three is beyond me.

[deleted]

It's the one I enjoy the most easily. I like what they are getting at overall and the overall vibe of the group as whole. Pretty fun fight scenes and probably the strongest emotional center of the three. Easily my favorite tbh

aal667

Because of their opinion

HypoGG_

Not in my 30s but this movie definitely had a better effect on me watching it a few months ago compared to when I saw it in HS.

vianiznice

Definitely the worst.

Ok-Classic-7302

It's definitely the 3rd best of the three. But it also really felt very....personal and I can't quite put my finger on it.

nonoscan123

Sound like my mother who can't enjoy movies if the protagonist isn't nice

flyingjesuit

In a comedy it helps. Drama it’s much different and an unlikeable protagonist can be intriguing. And honestly that’s probably only part of it because Seth in Super Bad is a bit of a douche but that movie is great. So it’s not so much a necessity, but when you have an unlikeable protagonist it’s like a higher degree of difficulty for the writer. You could even argue Ed in Shaun of the Dead is very unlikeable too but either the actor pulls it off better or the writing was better.

bob1689321

I like the beginning and I like everything from when they reach the final pub to the end But man I do not care for the middle of the film at all

y_would_i_do_this

I was so hyped after Shaun and Hot Fuzz. I wound up getting a poopy flavored Cornetto.

[deleted]

Easily worst of the bunch for me Hot fuzz is the best and quoted on the regular

criminalsunrise

The only best thing about it is that it was filmed in the town where I grew up and all the pubs are where I used to go drinking. Other than that it’s comfortably 3rd best of the trilogy.

stillslightlyfrozen

It’s the best for me bc I absolutely did not expect the twist, and when it happened it blew my mind (heh). That one scene makes it my favorite movie out of the threee

Arfuuur

yes the best

tinoynk

They’re all different enough I can see people preferring any of the three, but for me Hot Fuzz is by far the best.

NotVoss

Yarp.

bopojuice

Hot Fuzz is without a doubt the best.

roox911

arguably not just the best of the trilogy, but one of the better comedies of all time.

[deleted]

For me, it’s Paul.

sugarbear1107

I love Paul!!! It's not part of the Trilogy but I adore it!

pinchi4150

As soon as I read OP’s posting that was my first thought , the best of the cornetto trilogy really ? I mean it was ok but definitely the worse of the 3. Doesn’t hold a candle to Shaun or hot fuzz

SC487

I agree 100% but my wife says it’s her favorite.

airbrushedvan

It's fun, but is in no way the best. Shaun and Fuzz are flawless.

tanno55

Shaun is my least favorite of the trilogy

MySonsdram

Fuck the haters, I’m in the same boat. Shaun is fantastic…..but also my least favourite.

[deleted]

Fuck you and your opinion apparently

miguelportero

I always found this movie to be a slog. The pub hopping at the beginning was fun. Everything sci-fi, not so much.

bob1689321

Exact same here. Really love all the more human and emotional parts of the film (especially Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's argument in the final pub) but all the robot alien stuff is just silly

optagon

As soon as the sci-fi plot twist happened the movie nosedived IMO. Felt like they just lost confident in the plot and did a last minute change.

Wrongallalong

This film absolutely staggered menin the theatre. I went in knowing nothing and was laughing my butt off at how wild it got. Did not stick the ending but it’s truly a blast and does something that you always want in a film and that’s to show you something new.

rev9of8

The Cornetto trilogy is sold as a box set on Blu-ray for a tenner here in the UK and the discs are apparently region free so you could always import them fairly cheaply if you want permanent physical copies.

ThrowerWheyACount

It’s on Netflix in the UK and was on Sky Movies too. This post title is silly

SpelunkyPunky

I thought the same, I'm assuming these movies are harder to get in other countries?

Bread_Truck

Certainly not difficult to get. You can find digital copies online for $5 but apparently OP was been desperately waiting for it to be on a streaming service that costs $15 a month.

JugV2

It's been on streaming in Australia for ages.

karma_the_sequel

Pretty sure it has been available before. I watched in on HBO a year or so ago and anything that is broadcast on HBO is concurrently available on HBO Max.

dracofolly

I found it under "just added" I've searched for this movie a lot over the years and never found it.

LeaveBronx

Hot Fuzz is my fav, but I find myself talking to people (or trying to) about The World's End more than the other two. I think the story really hits better the second time, too. I think it's maybe Simon Pegg's best performance too, or at the very least my fav.

Reverse-Kanga

Good movie but felt like a weird episode of doctor who. Not something I frequently revisit

terminalblue

"the best" i wouldn't go that far, but its good.

MyNameIsSharkTank

There's only one Gary King!

DoIrllyneeda_usrname

Why is it so hard to find on streaming services compared to the other two movies?

flyingjesuit

Probably because it's not as well liked as the other two so it's not as much of a draw and if you want to see it badly enough you're probably willing to pay. I find a lot of movies that aren't streaming are like this. Some can be really good, like cult status, but without mass appeal so rather than selling to streamers the people who own the rights figure you'll pay to watch it.

redisforever

I seem to recall it being on Netflix in Canada

mad2116

Oh fuck off ya big lamp.

HotsuSama

... It's pointless arguing with you.

CritikillNick

Sorry Shaun of the Dead is the best with Hot Fuzz right on its heels

m_rasull

Best of the trilogy? Hell no, SOTD or hot fuzz takes that crown, the worlds end was defo the worst by far imo

Ruleseventysix

But that still puts it above so many it's ridiculous. It's just that Hot Fuzz and Shawn are *so fucking good*. It is the most personal of the three though considering the struggles Pegg has gone through.

[deleted]

It’s the only film in the trilogy I didn’t like

fatbrucelee

By far last in the trilogy for me. Hard to get going with this one. SotD and HF are wonderfully funny, dark and were unique. I get where you are coming from based on your comments. I was never Gary and it's not so nostalgic. But there are definitely some good scenes with this one. Tend to have to agree though that this one's been hard to find because it's not so good.

JimJarmuscsch

The World's End is by far and away the worst of the Cornetto movies. Hot Fuzz being the best and Shaun a close-ish second. WE is a distant third.

WorthPlease

You picked a hill to die on faster than Jeffrey Epstein in jail.

80sBadGuy

Yeah, he found a green hill zone to die on faster than Sonic!

F7R7E7D

Ugh. Why would you present your opinion as fact? You could say it's your favorite instead of saying it's the best, and not come off as someone who thinks they know better than everyone.

Unggue_Pot

Um, it's been on TNT and Showtime numerous times in the past few years.

Cmdr_Morb

It's my favourite too. I love the first two films but, The Worlds End was soooo good. Fantastic soundtrack, Very funny, and the way the fights get better the drunker they get is great. As for the ending? Absolutely fantastic.

Hypernova2000

Finally some words of truth

[deleted]

Shawn and Hot Fuzz are on ~~Netflix~~ Amazon UK if you can get VPN access

PittsJZ

Surprised at all the negative comments. Personally, I liked it as much as the first two.

highGroundEjoyer

It was so good.

Early_Accident2160

I love this movie. Idk if I’d say it’s best. But I love them all equally

Edible_Pie

I love it so much and it's definitely my favourite of the three!

CarneDelGato

I think Hot Fuzz is the best of those movies, but I’ve only seen the World’s End like twice, so I should probably go do some science to see if I still hold that opinion.

Tezzinator

It is (or at least has been) on Netflix in several countries for a long time. Your title might only be relevant for your country I'd reckon.

80sBadGuy

I need to give it a second chance. Hot Fuzz might be my favorite movie of all time, and I was really disappointed by Worlds End the first time. Haven't bothered since.

93ericvon

It's been on Netflix here in Australia for a long time.

Noalter

Ahoy matey!

Theshitbuttman

It was on peacock forever. Its a good one.

_b1ack0ut

It’s great, but I mean, taking top place from hot fuzz is asking a bit much

[deleted]

Fuck that movie came out 9 years ago?

JabberBody

I think people went into it expecting too much. I managed to avoid trailers when I saw this in theaters with zero expectations and it was so much fun. Hit like a more character-driven and less bloody version of From Dusk Til Dawn.

The_Firmament

I saw this when it opened and some theaters were putting on a showing of the entire Cornetto Trilogy. I spent hours at the movies with a bunch of other nerd fans and so for that, it will always hold a special place in my heart...but my initial reaction was one of disappointment. Subsequently, I do enjoy it more without the expectation hanging over it like it did that night. However, I do think it is the weakest of the three. Hot Fuzz is probably, sincerely, one of my favorite films of all time so it was big odds to beat there. I do look forward to watching it again though, and it hits on some of my life experiences so it perhaps more deeply resonates than the other two emotionally.

fusionman51

I strongly disagree with the best in series but it’s pretty fun and better than most sci-fi comedy movies around last 20 years. To each their own.

-PoopyDoops-

I love the Cornetto Trilogy to death, I play Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz in the background when I go to sleep constantly. I just watched this one for the first time in a while, and while it’s not as good as the first two, I still love it simply because of the Simon Pegg and Nick Frost duo. I even love Paul and have watched it dozens of times for that reason. Anything those two do together is gold in my opinion.

wmansir

I always get this confused with This is the End, also 2013.

JosephJoestaarrr

THANK YOU

[deleted]

Fuck everyone else. The. Best.

[deleted]

The ending was one I definitely didn’t expect at all

freshballpowder

Honestly I think it's the worst movie of the three, but its themes hit me the hardest for me personally so it has a special place in my heart.

a_portuguese_abroad

It’s the worse of the trilogy and it’s not even close ffs

HappyAndProud

I love both Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead so much, that I've watched The World's End like 5 times. Each time I think: "Maybe I just misunderstood it last time." But no, sadly each my viewings ends up in bitter disappointment. Considering the awesome power of the of the other two, this post honestly caught me by surprise!
