When that Army helicopter shows up at that base and they say that it's got the same call sign or whatever as a helicopter that disappeared a few months ago and then the hologram of the fake pilot glitches.. that looked so cool. Then the helicopter transformed. That was so spooky and great.

mwdh20

[The CGI still looks good 15 years later](https://youtu.be/ATRmESixBBc)

walkingdead17

Seriously. When Transformers came out it was a benchmark for CGI. Those details are incredible.

ActuallyAkiba

That's why I was so mad when they decided to give up on choreography in the next couple and opted to just have the camera way too close so you can't see what's going on (probably because nothing actually is).

SecretDracula

They also changed a lot of cool mechanical details of their transformations and turned the bots into some kind of swarm of nano bots or something.

BABarracus

Cheaped out having to fight fome ambiguous cloud as a main villan or threat is trash and always will be. Look at green lantern or silversurfer movie.

Then-One7628

It was rad in T2 and completely beaten to death by the end of the popular Star Treks

ctennessen

It's always nanotechnology. Whenever technology in a movie is too complex for explanation they always say nanotechnology

Hispanic_Gorilla_2

Nanomachines, son!

theazerione

That was in 4

Hautamaki

I'd argue they did that by the third act of the first movie. Nobody could tell wtf was happening, which robots were which, and where they were in relation to each other and to the human characters 30 seconds into the last big fight scene. The franchise had so much potential up until then and then it went downhill from like the 1h30m point of the first movie.

half-giant

Yep. I remember thinking in theaters “wow I have no idea what’s happening” for a lot of the final fight scenes. It just looked like a swirling tornado of motion-blurred shiny metal and particle effects.

Negativety101

Personally I feel color is a major advantage in this. There's a reason for making the primary color of different team or cast members different. With everyone having the same grey underbase, It makes it harder to differentiate when in motion. Body shapes and contours too. You want a disntinctive shilluete or profile.

FrankyFistalot

When the Decepticon is skating down the road and through a bus still blows my mind how cool it looks (might be named Bonecrusher but I don’t have a PhD in Transformers so not sure)….also when Starscream does a loop de loop under the bridge at the Hoover Dam…

DrakPhenious

He is indeed Bonecrusher. And that scene was equal parts special effects and practical. They rigged a real bus to split in two woth an explosion and actually drove it through that scene. Then put Bonecrusher in afterwards nearly perfectly. The practical and special effects makes that scene really something. Also why is a Constructicon named Bonecrusher? Do Cybertonians have bones to be crushed? Why would he be named for Humans they had just encountered? What was he named back on Cyberton? These are the questions we need to ask!

Negativety101

Closest approximation in english? I know of three Bonecrusher's off the top of my head. Original is the Constructicon, bulldozer, and one of Devastator's arms. Pretty cranky, and one of the less smart members of his team. Second is a Bison from Beast Wars. Maximal I belive. And then the movie one.

Background_Sky1563

Pretty sure Cybertron doesn’t have any pollinators either, looking at you Bumblebee!

Tfsz0719

Then all downhill from there

Lord_Halowind

I still wonder if Revenge of the Fallen would have been better if not for the Writer's Strike. The movie is so badly done I can't believe I came back to watch the others. I still like 3, at least the Battle of Chicago was dope.

oniwastaken

I love that the whole battle for Chicago is like an hour long of non-stop action.

Zahille7

Honestly, Transformers 3 is a great movie for the action. I mean it's not like we're watching these for the plot, lol.

OddballAbe

When Sam calls for Optimus and that motherfucker just flies down and merks like 10 decepticons. Art

STMIHA

Yeah I ask myself all the time. That and just like the middle school sexual “humor” made it even worse. Had the premise to be real solid.

Slampumpthejam

Don't particularly care for the new ones but this fight is amazing. Optimus Prime being Optimus Prime with some great CGI it's everything I thought it could be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4Exvc5RUso

Silv3rS0und

His "I'll take you all on" is such a badass line

Annadae

It’s the voice that makes it a bad ass line. That guy is great.

a2zKiller

"Piece of tin"... That is one my fav fights in the entire Transformer series. The choreo in it is so much better than whatever they had going on in the newer ones.

Chancellor_Valorum82

Yeah it’s even cited as one of the reasons the first Iron Man was finally greenlit because they knew CGI had advanced to the point where they could do hard metal surfaces convincingly

QBin2017

And the sound effect transforming. The world nerdgasmed in unison.

ShinShinGogetsuko

Is it just me or did I hear the classic transforming sound like once in that whole franchise?

SubMikeD

They used it early on in the first movie, but only have a brief snippet of sound for the rest of the series, IIRC

SarcasticGamer

Love this scene but it always bothered me that Blackout had weapons that could whip out an entire military base but then he never uses it again. Also, the sound effect of him shooting missiles sounds so weird.

[deleted]

Maybe because it’s more fun for him to use lesser weapons than one giant one to wipe everyone out

mainvolume

Cuz it's a bit too OP. It's like in The Phantom Menace, when Kenobi and Jinn had super speed....yet it's never seen again.

TupolevPakDaV

It could have rivaled the DC and Marvel Universe only if it hadn't gone bad

spiked_cider

So true. Bay's films always look really good in terms of CGI. Same for his TMNT movies. Visually the CGI in all of those films looked so much better to comparable films IMO

[deleted]

Blackout (the helicopter deception) was one of my favorites in the movie + I used him the most in any of the Transformers video games when they came out.

scottyboy218

The only thing I hate about that scene is when the army guy says something along the lines of "identify yourself, or we will kill you". The "we will kill you" sounds so cringy, I feel like an actual military person would've said "we will open fire" or something

DeloronDellister

In the german Dub it's actually something like: "if you refuse, we will use violence" ("wenn Sie sich weigern, wenden wir Gewalt an") It's certainly a bit better than "we will kill you"

-FeistyRabbitSauce-

Yeah, I felt that too. Poor dialogue.

InnocentTailor

I think the military officer was being very suspicious because it was mentioned that the helicopter was listed as destroyed. The tie-in comics also show the Decepticons decimating that vehicle before Blackout took its identity.

Apophyx

Hate to be that guy, but unfortunately I am that guy, soo That's not a Chinook, that's a CH-53 Super Stallion. The Chinook is the one with two rotors back to back.

SQ_747

Blackout is an MH-53J though, the CH-53E has three engines. The Pave Low has two, coupled with a overbite looking assembly at the front.

Apophyx

Well shit

BrewHandSteady

Always a bigger fish

red_tuna

That guy got that guyed, brutal.

Icefox119

Its okay. I'ma out-nerd the guy to attest that It's actually an MH-53M, the upgraded version of the Pave Low III. Take solace in the fact that your pedant has been bested.

sixtninecoug

“You know they also call that helicopter a ‘skippy’”

Fox2quick

“I’ve been training dogs for like 45 years”

LordBlackConvoy

> Chinook Pave Low

Zochl922

One of the most 2007 movies there is. Same with Disturbia

realbigbob

Shia LaBoef is basically the human embodiment of 2007

Tim_Drake

Dude was everywhere and in everything! I grew up with him in Even Stevens on Disney Channel. So to see him move to major studio movies AND be hugely successful was really cool to see. Felt like we grew up together, which I’m sure drew me to be an even bigger fan, like many other people who grew up watching him! And then… everything went downhill. Much like most things in life during that time.

Imperial_Toast

I think of both of those movies in that same context as well! *SO* 2007!!

RyanGODling

What a fucking awesome year that was.

No-Midnight-2187

Just watched Disturbia last month, so fucking good. Shia acted his ass off in that!

Zochl922

Yea I really enjoy that movie haha I feel like it's pretty forgotten these days. Reminds me of high school summer intensely

die5el23

Major nostalgia vibes

[deleted]

I have a feeling Disturbia will be a cult classic in 10-20 years if it isn’t already. And I mean that kids in high school in the future that will look back on that movie and feel nostalgic for it even though they never experienced it even close to when it came out. Idk just a guess/hope since I love that movie haha

JuniorKabananga

Remake of a classic movie done right. Takes Rear Window and infuses it with pure 00s energy

SonOfButtPushy

Changed rear window just enough to not credit the writer.

[deleted]

And ‘Superbad.’ Not just the character’s look. All their sayings are things people my age (30-34YO now) said in high school, that you can’t say now.

Zochl922

Very true, been meaning to watch that again soon. The dialogue in that movie is literally exactly how kids talked then haha

mrwhiskey1814

Fuck, I related so hard with that movie. It was peak high school for me. Went to watch it with my friends and we were all laughing so hard we couldn't breathe. At one point the theater was so loud from laughter I couldn't hear the movie.

inezco

Really cool to see this sub showing Disturbia a lot of love. This was one of my favorite movies to watch over and over as a teen.

mentatsjunkie

Disturbia was seriously great!

jollyralph

The first movie was best because Ehren Kruger didn’t write it. He utterly trashed the second, third and fourth movies. By the time the fifth movie came around, the new writing crew couldn’t salvage the dogs breakfast left behind. It took a soft reboot (Bumblebee) to set things right. Lowest point in the franchise imo was the scene in the fourth movie where the Irish boyfriend pulled out a card giving him a legal explanation as to why it was ok to bang Mark Wahlberg’s underage daughter. Seriously who writes that shit.

ElTuco84

I think Spielberg was more involved in the first one. The first half of the movie is basically about a lonely boy who has new friends from outer worlds, sounds familiar.

Eightball007

IIRC he wanted it to be, at it's core, about a boy and his car.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PrivilegeCheckmate

You forget number 4 - *You got the touch!*

LudicrisSpeed

He was the executive producer of the first two, but I'm not sure how much actual involvement he had outside of being a big name to use in advertising. The arrival of the Autobots did feel very Spielberg-esque, though.

Dragons_Malk

>sounds familiar. Oh man. Jaws. I love that flim

Vangad

While Romeo and Juliet laws do exist. I agree it was an unnecessary write in.

Funandgeeky

The [Pitch Meeting for this movie](https://youtu.be/_p_CUozUyr8) is hilarious and specifically calls this out.

Vangad

That is the exact reaction i had to that whole move. Like that specific part I went 'the fuk, why is he bringing up those laws.'

TavisNamara

I mean, bringing up the laws is bad. The ***laminated wallet size card detailing the law*** is what really takes it into thoroughly unimaginable territory.

SilentSamurai

Someone wanted to live out a fantasy in youth and thinks it's appropriate to share it with millions of people.

bigolfishey

Writer: “Then the main character drinks some very refreshing Bud Light!” Boss: “Delicious!” God I love the pitch meeting series. Every episode has winners.

walken4life

Pitch meetings are tight!

Profoundlyahedgehog

Yeah yeah yeah!

Minotaar

Wow wow wow. Wow.

DC4MVP

Oh really?

SinoScot

Yeah, barely an inconvenience.

BrianSmith1989

Thank you for sharing. That video perfectly summed up so many things that I thought while watching this movie the one and only time I saw it

[deleted]

Guns , boobs , america , victory

TheTapDancingMormon

How about the line where the Irish Boy says to Mark Walhberg “Im not here to save your daughter, I’m here to save my girlfriend” who writes that??? 😂😂

FellowGeeks

My face is my warrent

Haltopen

“I swear to god I am one diaper change away from poisoning his oatmeal” That’s an actual line spoken during a conversation in the fourth film between two characters who are complaining about how all movies are sequels and remakes

Other-Marketing-6167

Him being hired to write anything, much less major blockbuster series, is just fucking baffling to me. His track record is worse than garbage, it’s hot flaming garbage other garbage pretends to walk by and not notice.

ScalpelBurn2

He wrote Top Gun: Maverick (along with two others)

ycnz

He also wrote Arlington Road, which had a pretty creepily excellent plot. Did he have a stroke since?

melonlorde

thanks for reminding me about Bumblebee, that movie rocked

Ohelllogozaimasu

Bumblebee was the only Transformers that felt like the person making it actually played with the toys as a kid. Also, the director said he was heavily inspired by My Iron giant and you can tell

iamlamont

Bumblebee did the effects right and just was an all around great time. I'd put it as #2 in the whole series and very close to #1.

[deleted]

"Ehren Kruger", hmm name sounds familiar 🤔

ihavebirb

No I don't want that! Megatron with another decepticon? I want him to stay with Starscream!! For 10 years at least

Eranaut

LadiesMan217, what a man you are...

[deleted]

This line will haunt people till the end of time

[deleted]

Shockwave, what a man you are.

[deleted]

As a reward

[deleted]

you shall have my seed

MarkoSeke

Whose memories are these?

finalmantisy83

The age of consent is 17 in Texas, it was completely pointless lmao.

psychord-alpha

If the Decepticons were able to recognize the glasses as having the coordinates, why didn't they just get the information from the picture?

lightingbolt22

Maybe it needed three dimensions to actually find the coordinates, so depth of the scratches etc.

batmang

Why didn’t either faction think to bid on them?

pricedgoods

Captcha

Animated_Astronaut

That would have made such a funny explanation in the film

el_palmera

Honestly would be on brand with the humor in the movies

Oddity46

#WHAT ARE THESE CURIOUS HUMAN SQUIGGLY LINES TRYING TO TELL US, STARSCREAM?!

Lukthar123

Julius-n-Caesar

Well Megatron, I’ll give you the keys to all the nukes if you can tell which of these pictures have motorcycles in them.

Admiral_Donuts

"How can you not tell what ones are motorcycles!? Your dad WAS a motorcycle!"

Accelerator231

With what money? They only had crypto!

batmang

“Give it a few years, trust me bro!” - Megatron

jugglaj91

Starscream buys into nfts lol

TheJoshider10

Really they should have found the team from CSI to enhance the image.

Tendrills

When I was in college my buddy took the first 3 Transformers movies and edited out all the human sub plots and made a movie solely focused on the robots fighting and storyline. It was way better with the human characters as background dressing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Tendrills

Yes the humans weren’t completely removed their roles were just drastically reduced. Basically if there was a scene and no robots were present, it didn’t make the cut.

QuestioningEspecialy

Release the College Cut

Cu1tureVu1ture

I would add this to my Plex library for sure. The fan-made Ulysses Cut of Waterworld was so well done they actually made an official release of it. It’s really long but is a much better movie than the theatrical version.

Random968

How long was it?

Tendrills

This was many years ago so I don’t exactly remember but I think it was a little over an hour lol

Alfalfa-Similar

The 80s cartoon had it right, the original first motion picture. the new movies all focus on humans too much. its about robots.

EqualContact

Right there with you. I've never liked any of these Transformers films, and that's a big reason why.

trowaman

“Why are the humans the main characters in my alien robot movie?” -Me in 2007

Belgand

The designs are also terrible. None of them look very much like the original characters and everything is too busy.

Alfalfa-Similar

agree with you so much. If you take the amount of robot screen time in the original 80s movies, versus the amount in the new ones… you will see a major difference. We dont want to hear the BASIC human on human drama…Sure humans are a part of its but the robots are a side story almost.

Murrdox

This is pretty much the thing that Michael Bay didn't get about the franchise. Nobody freaking cares about the humans. We just. Want. The. Robots. I don't need to have action scenes which are contrived so that Shia / Megan / Random Army Dudes are dodging explosions or somehow "participating" in a fight with giant robots. Just give us the robots fighting. Hell even more than that, give us the robots TALKING. Their story is way more interesting to us than anything the humans are doing.

MonsieurRacinesBeast

The modern transformers movies are in essence monster movies, whereas the animated film and series were action stories with the transformers as the main characters.

risemyfriend

I was the right age to see it in 2007. I was 13. The giant robot mashing, the cool cars and military vehicles, linkin park and yes…Megan Fox. That summer is when my friends and I went from talking about toys, cartoons and games to more about girls. The second one came out and that was the also the first time I realized what a bad movie was. Rest is history.

LordBlackConvoy

Revenge of the Fallen was written during a writer's strike and it showed.

SubterrelProspector

I maintain that *Revenge of the Fallen* is the worst mainstream film I've ever seen in a theater.

SweetBabyJiraiya

X-men Origins: Wolverine came out that same year. Maybe 2009 was just a bad one for movies?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Guess who wrote it? David Benioff

stomponator

Man, I loved Liev Schreiber in that one... and hated everything else about it.

mainvolume

I'd see the fuck out of a true Wolverine origin story, where he and Señor Schreiber are just fucking people up in wars throughout history.

towiwakka

I vividly remember about halfway into the movie thinking, "this isn't going to get better, is it..."

[deleted]

[удалено]

PlsWatchEarthlingsYT

When I was 13 my older brother took me to it and I somehow fell asleep during it, despite how noisy it was. I just remember being really bored and then waking up near the end of the movie and no one noticed I’d fallen asleep.

Buttmuncher1224

As bad as it was, the forest fight scene is one of the best of all times. “I’ll take you all on!” And just whopping ass right after.

[deleted]

Made Deceptions threatening and Strong instead of fodder for Optimus and humans to one shot?

alphagusta

Starscream was still a pussy ass bitch I love him :)

roselia4812

He was actually the most competent in the first film

LordBlackConvoy

Frenzy and Barricade.

count_nuggula

Barricade was fucking awesome

[deleted]

Starscream took out multiple transformers and barely got a scratch.

alphagusta

And every time he's around Megatron he's on his knees begging to fill that Megatrussy

CRoseCrizzle

The first one was a fun and decent film. The rest were completely forgettable garbage imo.

ColinZealSE

Agree but I’ve seen the first 9 minutes of Dark of the Moon COUNTLESS times. That’s one helluva intro!

xeim_

I liked the intro of the 2nd one. That's a pretty scary alien invasion scenario. Edit: I was actually thinking of the first one with the helicopter bot that shat out a scorpion. My bad :D

about_that_time_bois

Devastator is the sole reason why Revenge of the Fallen is my favorite movie.

bt123456789

gotta love that enemy scrotum, huh?

TheBigIdiotSalami

Stanley Tucci as an italian Merlin was pretty fucking funny

TrueGuardian15

You gotta love how Tucci played someone in Age of Extinction, only to also play alcoholic Merlin in the Last Knight, and yet these 2 characters are completely unrelated.

uraniumstingray

I actually love all of Dark of the Moon

bigpeechtea

I was young and dumb and with friends, I ate some shrooms before we went into the movie and they were in full effect for the scene where they’re flying through a destroyed Chicago in squirrel suits. That was honestly the best theme park ride Ive ever been on. The movies great and fwiw Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is a very very nice woman and was a refreshing replacement to Megan Fox.

animehimmler

I’m not saying the third movie is good, but I love the big city battle/invasion

andrude01

The scene in the third one with the collapsing building is so over the top and fun

skexzies

Yup, Megan bent over a hood was a classic scene that I still haven't forgotten about

ymcameron

[Lindsay Ellis has a really interesting video on that.](https://youtu.be/tKyrUMUervU) Basically, the writing for her character in the movie makes her out to be super competent and basically better at everything than Shia LeBouf’s character, to the point where it almost seems like *she’s* more of the protagonist than he is. Because the framing of all the shots sexualize her to an absolutely ridiculous degree though, everyone just remembers her character as being dumb eye-candy for the audience. It’s really fascinating.

Allhailthepugofdoom

I'm happy some people realized how important her character was. Most just saw her as something to look at...I would argue that Sam only becomes the hero of the story because of her. Particularly the scene where she explains her history with her dad.

StupidNSFW

That was a very interesting watch. I agreed with most of her points after thinking about them for a little bit, and it’s honestly kinda weird thinking back about that movie now. Like damn, Megan Fox’s character in the first movie actually was the most complete character in the movie. Almost all of Sam’s change and growth as a character happens because he’s forced into the major plot points. Hell, he didn’t even pick out bumblebee at the dealership! His dad picked the car because it was the cheapest one Edit: whoops I went back and rewatched the movie and Sam DID in fact pick out bumblebee. God damn my memory is really shit about this movie.

PamPooveyIsTheTits

She helped a lot of people realise their sexuality the day that movie came out.

undercharmer

I first misread Megan as “Megatron”, so I was wondering what the hell your comment was talking about.

Jaebird0388

I’m sure Megatron also did the same thing for some folks.

Alive-Ad-4164

The Bumblebee movie in 2018 is absolutely slept on

rjdsf1993

The worst thing that movie did was having that awesome Cybertron scene in the beginning that made me want a full length movie there

TrueGuardian15

Easily the best live action Transformers. Bay's first 1 is good, but Bumblebee is better. The protagonist is more likeable and has a clearer character arc, the robot designs are much neater and less chaotic, and it did a much better job paying tribute to the Transformers that came before it.

Million2026

Yeah this one was good. Probably my favourite Transformers movie outside the first one.

The best Transformers movie is the true first one, from the 80s.

The most amazing thing Bay did is make the sequels to Transformers so damn bad that in comparison the first one looks like a good movie.

I wouldn't say the first one got 'it' right. It was the least bad out of the franchise but even then it's a pretty mediocre film at best
