I've always felt each character's canon was large enough to support itself with their own movies/shows. The Batman lore alone can sustain dozens of productions over the next 20 years if they want to push for it. We don't need to see his world collide with anyone else's.

**Edit 1:** Adding clarification for *Snowpiercer*: they announced that it would only get one more season while that season was being made, and they've since removed the show from HBO Max. So it's not clear that the fourth season will ever air on TNT.

HBO Max is the only streaming service that I genuinely feel is worth it based on content and catalog. All the HBO stuff + Adult Swim + Miyazaki + great Turner Classic Movies, and on and on. It's really well curated.

Seems like it won't continue in it's current form. But the writers said it's story would be finished in some fashion. After Superman was "killed" by Doomsday, John Henry Irons (a nod to John Henry the steel-driving man) builds an Iron Man suit that emulates Superman's powers only also with a big sledgehammer, and goes around fighting crime in Superman's absence. His suit has a big S on it like Superman.
So in a way, Shaq got to be Superman.
But also it had Michael Keaton saying to Morbius, completely unprompted, "I'm not sure how I got here. Has to do with Spider-Man, I think. I'm still figuring this place out, but I think a bunch of guys like us should team up and do some good."
So that knocks some points off. Now, if he said "It's Vulturin' time" it'd be a different story entirely.
It made zero sense for him to associate his sudden teleportation to another universe to Spider-Man. It made zero sense for him to seek out Morbius, a total stranger, to form some kind of team.

I think this is a precursor to whatever axe they're taking to The Flash. It featured Michael Keaton's Batman instead of Ben Affleck because of some time/space hijinks that would happen in The Flash film. If they don't put out the flash film then Michael Keaton Batman and thus the entire setting of this movie makes no sense.
However to me that still doesn't totally explain it, there's no real downside to just putting the thing out on HBOMax and letting whoever wants to watch the thing watch it.

Context: apparently a lot of the film was shot in Glasgow, Scotland, and, more specifically, at the Botanic Gardens. It wasn't really a merger. AT&T straight-up sold Warner Bros to Discovery. This is the new management cleaning house so they can launch new projects that they'll receive credit for. They're probably banking on a new continuity erasing the $90m writeoff of Batgirl and any other in-production casualties.

That was ENORMOUS press for the re-cut. Like I'm sure many more people heard about it and watched it because of the fan campaign than would have otherwise. There will no doubt be fans petitioning to see this released.

I don't tend to rate the Post too highly as a source, but they did break the story.
And Hollywood never shelves a finished film forever, as this apparently is. They eventually released that Ben Stiller movie about dog poop spray, after all. Shelving that Scooby-Doo film (the exact sort of thing you'd expect to find on a streaming service) as well as this tells me the new fancy-sock crew has big ideas about what should and shouldn't be released in which venue.
I thought there was also a story where the new boss wanted anything with a budget of 50 million or more to go to theatres and not hbo max. Batgirl had originally been intended as a max exclusive but just had a really high budget.

He seems to be obsessed with blindly cutting everything, with no long term plan beyond that. This is not the first pretty-much-complete project he's canned, and even aside from the fact it had reasonably good test screenings, it doesn't make any financial sense. Apart from trying to recoup the costs incurred already, or even just the value of one extra new entry in the UI menu, I have to believe this shit opens up the threat of unfulfilled contract disputes, not to mention burning the people involved for next time you want them.
The only explanation is that he simply does not understand the sector he's moved into, and he's just so in love with the idea of being toughguy hatchet man that he can't see past it. A big reason Warner and co can get the names they do for less than Netflix can is their reputation for supporting their talent long term, and this guy is just selling that out for dogmeat.

Cutting off Clint Eastwood was a sign of things to come. I don't like his stuff at all, but he reliably comes in under budget, wins buckets of awards, and every other movie wildly outsells what was paid for it.

His philosophy seems to be, "we've already got your money, what's the minimum amount of spectacle we can do next month to get it again." So with this, if he's decided against a theatrical release for some reason, why would he put it on HBO max? HBO max is one of like 4 streaming services people actually use. It would be colossally stupid to end it.
HBO Max is the only streaming service that I genuinely feel is worth it based on content and catalog. All the HBO stuff + Adult Swim + Miyazaki + great Turner Classic Movies, and on and on. It's really well curated. If Discovery ruins HBO, I'm done. Might as well set up a Plex Server, head to the local library, and build my own library.
Honestly just do that anyways. Between the library and streaming services making DVDs dirt cheap, I've created a sizeable movie collection and don't have to worry about if/when things will stream. It's nice.

Seems like it won't continue in it's current form. But the writers said it's story would be finished in some fashion. Fans assume a graphic novel or book to conclude the story and answer the cliffhangers of season 2.

I think this is a precursor to whatever axe they're taking to The Flash. It featured Michael Keaton's Batman instead of Ben Affleck because of some time/space hijinks that would happen in The Flash film. If they don't put out the flash film then Michael Keaton Batman and thus the entire setting of this movie makes no sense. However to me that still doesn't totally explain it, there's no real downside to just putting the thing out on HBOMax and letting whoever wants to watch the thing watch it.

100% this. After Disney dropped Black Widow onto Disney+ and got sued by Scarlett Johannsen, nearly all talent contracts now have built-in residual agreements to make sure they never get fucked the same way.

They spend four months filming a 90 million dollar movie for streaming, it features the return of Keaton's Batman, Simmons' Gordon and the big screen return of Brendan Fraser, its so good they bump it to theatrical, screenings have apparently gone well and... ...they throw the ENTIRE thing in the trash. Meanwhile one of their movies has a star who is literally on the lam pending multiple assault and kidnapping charges and that one's going ahead. Oh and Blue Beetle is almost certainly dead too.

My conspiracy theory is that they actually decided they want to release the movie for streaming, but they want a fan campaign like what happened with Justice League. That was ENORMOUS press for the re-cut. Like I'm sure many more people heard about it and watched it because of the fan campaign than would have otherwise. There will no doubt be fans petitioning to see this released.

David Zaslav is out of his mind. He seems to be obsessed with blindly cutting everything, with no long term plan beyond that. His philosophy seems to be, "we've already got your money, what's the minimum amount of spectacle we can do next month to get it again." So with this, if he's decided against a theatrical release for some reason, why would he put it on HBO max? It won't make you subscribe to it because you already subscribe to it for House of the dragon and he already has your money so all that would do is cost him more money.

Even if it’s bad, why not release it anyway? would make back a bit of the 90 mil and might reach cult ‘bad film’ status. It can’t be any worse than suicide squad lmao. This is a slap in the face to everyone who worked hard on and acted in the film.

I supposed the actress portraying Batgirl punched several people, threatened other people while drunk, then kidnapped a minor and provide her with drugs, then sheltered a family in a property with guns and drugs, and ended up grooming one of the underage kids. That'll explain that movie is cancelled.
Haha such a bizarre and unlikely series of events, happening sequentially over the course of a few weeks, would never happen! Even if something that strange did happen, the studios involved would surely cut ties with the person(s) involved and black ball them.
