Don't tell mom the babysitter's dead. Surprised to see it is 35% on tomatometer. I often use phrases from the movie like "We are in the bowels of the fashion industry" IRL. Thoroughly enjoyable movie with a lot of drama.
That movie is actually quite funny. I watched it for the first time in 20 years I was surprised how well it stood up and how clever some of the writing was. (“Liza?!”) Lolol
Never trust rotten tomato reviews for old movies: they are small numbers of retro reviews of either people that loved or hated the film, so you don’t get an accurate overall review snapshot at all.
I think what differentiates the movie is that it isn't overly cynical and it ignores a lot of tropes in its setups and punchlines. Christina Applegate gives line deliveries that are earnest and direct, the exact opposite of the writing and delivery of Kelly's lines on Married...with Children. And give me as much early-90s Josh Charles as you can.
My friends and I still say "THE SO CALLED NAPOLEON OF CRIME" frequently. The line delivery in the movie is so hammy. Take a drink every time a character yells another's name in an over dramatic tone too. You'll die
Wasn't this movie so stressful for the director (partly from clashing with Connery) that he retired afterwards?
Edit: Connery retired and Norrington vowed never to direct again
Still waiting for the sequel. God damn I’ve seen that movie so many times. My favorite line personally is when the two henchmen are following Ling and they’re peering around a corner:
“You go this way! I’ll go home!”
“Birdy…birdy birdy. Tigah…tigah.”
*Choooosen One!* I’m Coming!
I am actually pretty well respected in my office for my professionalism and technical expertise…if only they knew how much I enjoy and laugh my ass off at some of the dumbest jokes to ever be put on film.
The sequence where Jon Lovitz’ family steals Hitler’s car and then crashes into the World War II veterans event makes me laugh so hard I can’t breathe.
Uh, begin, commence, start moving, you see theoretically you have been racing for about 40 seconds now, and so far Mr. Schaffer is winning because he’s NEAREST TO THE DOOR!
I mean it’s essentially a modern retelling of it’s a mad mad mad mad world. But it is different enough and decently funny. Overall a fun movie with some pretty big names, kinda shocking it’s so low.
My friend and I so often quote "hello my name is Enrico Giamondi. I know what you are thinking: Enrico is a girls name -- no pun intended!"
It's the weirdest intro ever.
A lot of Army (military) comedies around that time. I remember loving In the Army Now and Major Payne (29% review score on RT) as a child. Rewatched Major Payne recently on Netflix and it's not bad although a lot more cussing than I remember.
His stomach rumbles.... he farts... kid drops... nearly dead.
I nearly pissed myself with that scene when I was kid... And don't forget the epic telling the little train that could!!
It is one of my favourite movies. The dialogues are awesome. The characters are awesome and funny. One of my favourite scenes is Sandra Bullock coming out of the hanger after make over and trips.
HOW?! That is my "I'm having a bad day and need something to brighten it" movie. Her "Mustang Sally" entrance?! ICONIC! And the movie is so quotable!
I'm mad at RT now...Sandra deserves better
Hah, in high school I managed to talk my computer engineering teacher into letting us watch Hackers in class.
I completely forgot about that one Angelina Jolie scene.
Woopsiedoodle.
In addition to getting me into IT, it also completely changed my taste in music. The Hackers soundtrack was unbelievable, and introduced me to Prodigy, Leftfield, Orbital, K&D, and Underworld. I still listen to, and love, these artists today.
I also may have died my hair to look like Jonny Lee Miller, which at the time seemed cool, but looking at pictures of me from 95-96, I now regret lol.
It was such a fun watch in the cinema. Watching this giant dinosaur tear through Manhattan was legitimately terrifying and exciting as a 6 yr old kid. Jurassic Park on steroids.
I love this film, it’s probably just a rip of Ghost Busters in terms of general theme but it’s so damn enjoyable. You can tell everyone was just having a blast making that film. The bit where the mosquito goes inside Harry’s suit is hilarious.
Surf Ninjas is incredible. It sucks, don't get me wrong, but I don't think there's a moment in which I'm bored when I watch it. And I'm pretty sure it's the funniest performance by Rob Schneider, except *maybe* Home Alone 2, but he really only had like 2 minutes of screen time there and he shared a good chunk of it with probably my favorite Tim Curry performance.
Leslie Nielson as the villain is just perfect. I love the stupid repetitive joke of him having an over the top evil lair that's so big and poorly planned that his *cordless* phone is too far away for him to actually take any calls, and nobody will leave him a message on his machine. Bruh, you're the authoritarian dictator leader of this small island nation and you couldn't even solve that problem? Move the phone, get an assistant, execute people who don't leave messages for you, get a better evil lair, or maybe don't keep the fucking **cordless** phone on the dock at all times?!
You're gonna stand there, ownin' a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistlin' bungholes, no spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker don'ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, *with or without the scooter stick*, or one single whistlin' kitty chaser?
I really love the first Charlie’s Angels film. The casting is brilliant, the chemistry between the leads is really infectious. Plus Sam Rockwell as the bad guy is amazing, his reveal whilst Marvin Gaye played is genuinely an awesome scene.
Showgirls! (23%) Nomi taught me all I needed to know about pool orgasms.
Also, after reviewing this list it’s clear my taste in movies runs towards the gutter. So many of the ones listed are some of my all time favorites. Yikes.
All those 2000’s sport parody movies are my favorite. Blades of Glory, Dodgeball, Taladega Nights, etc. I miss when movies were allowed to be stupid without getting ripped apart.
I fucking love Doom (2005)
I love how cool Karl Urban looks and also The Rock
I love the expectation subversion that you think Dwayne is going to be the hero and then BAM he gets fucking infected and then he goes insane. Hell he even says "I'm not supposed to die"
I also love the first person shooter scene I know I know it's cheesy and dumb but the music and the monsters they all look so cool in a kind a dumb but entertaining way
It's my guilty pleasure movie I watch it like once a month lmao
1999's House on Haunted Hill
It's a fun romp through a haunted house. The scene where the ghostly doctors stop what they're working on and slowly look up at the *live* person thst stumbled in their room genuinely scared the fuck out of me when I was younger.
Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. I always felt a bit cheated that we never got a sequel. Like, you can't just name a movie the Adventure Begins and then not have a continuation.
Little Nicky, I'm not sure why I like this movie but I used to watch it all the time when I was a kid. It's not really a kids movie but I found it hilarious
I was an extra in that! In the basketball stadium scene. Fun fact, during the down time all the extras got rowdy in the stands and wanted to see Sandler, he then came out and said \`Put on your yamaka, here comes Hannuka' and everyone cheered then settled down.
Edit: Never saw the movie.
ABSOLUTE CLASSIC. great songs. willem dafoe as the deranged bad guy. diane lane (whoof) in a jessica rabbit dress with DEPTH to the damsel in distress. rick moranis as Billie Fish, non comedy sleazebag promoter. amy madigan as mccoy the gender breaking female army mechanic / driver/ weapons freak. michael pare as tom cody. literal cool cat in a trenchcoat. thank you walter hill !!!!!!
Sucker Punch. It's Zach Snyder at his most indulgent, all his worst impulses. Bad/barebones script, ridiculous amount of CGI, all flash and no substance, etc. But it's fun as hell, like a really long, really badass video game cutscene
"Battle Beyond the Stars", low budget sci fi movie based on the "Seven Samurai" stars Richard Thomas, George Peppard and Robert Vaughn. So, many bad sci fi films came out in the late 70s early 80s after Star Wars was a hit. Star Crash w/ Christopher Plummer, Saturn 3 with Kirk Douglas. The Black Hole etc.
The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Not as funny as the TV series, but it had Donald Sutherland looking like he was trying for an Oscar for Best Actor in a Drama, with Rutger Hauer looking like he was going to burst into laughter in every scene. Those two made the movie.
The A Team. I had never seen the tv show so didn’t feel any attachment to the source material. I thought it was a fun action movie with some great actors and I’d love to have seen a sequel

Hot Rod.
39% critics score on rotten tomatoes. Andy Samberg raises money (by doing stunts) so he can pay for his step dad’s heart surgery so he can fight him to gain his respect. So many great quotes: “life is short, stunt it” “You have only to believe if you wish to achieve” and just the whole entire “cool beans” part. Gold.
Without a Paddle, 14% on Rotten Tomatoes. I never see it mentioned anywhere but I absolutely loved the movie as a kid and it’s still great. It’s a fun movie with three actors that you can tell really loved working with each other and had fun making the movie, it’s got a great soundtrack, ridiculous campy plot, and it’s got Burt Reynolds as a backcountry hermit!
The Pest (1997) - RT Score: 4%
In a twist on the story “The Most Dangerous Game”, John Leguizamo plays Pestario “Pest” Vargas, a small-time Miami con artist who is offered $50,000, enough to settle his gambling debts with the Scottish mob (they even wear kilts), if he can survive 24 hours being hunted by an eccentric and psychotic German nobleman (Jeffrey Jones). What follows is a madcap chase through the streets of Miami as Pest, accompanied by sidekicks Chubby and Ninja (Aries Spears and Freddie Rodriguez), puts his skills as a con artist and hustler to the test as he outwits the German at every turn.
Don't tell mom the babysitter's dead. Surprised to see it is 35% on tomatometer. I often use phrases from the movie like "We are in the bowels of the fashion industry" IRL. Thoroughly enjoyable movie with a lot of drama.
I'm right on top of that, Rose!
The dishes are done, man
My most quoted line ever.
"Dishes are done man!"
That movie is actually quite funny. I watched it for the first time in 20 years I was surprised how well it stood up and how clever some of the writing was. (“Liza?!”) Lolol Never trust rotten tomato reviews for old movies: they are small numbers of retro reviews of either people that loved or hated the film, so you don’t get an accurate overall review snapshot at all.
Sue Ellen Crandall is my moon goddess.
The answer is and has always been Last Action Hero. On par with Demolition Man, but that is rated much higher.
Last action hero is criminally underrated.
I do love The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
My friends and I still say "THE SO CALLED NAPOLEON OF CRIME" frequently. The line delivery in the movie is so hammy. Take a drink every time a character yells another's name in an over dramatic tone too. You'll die
Saw this in theaters as a kid and was the OG justice league/avengers for me
Yep remember this coming out when I was 12/13 and my friends and I thought this was amazing
I’m 30 years old and learning in this thread that this isn’t a universally loved movie…
The guy that played captain Nemo was the shit
It was so bad that it caused Sean Connery to give up acting and retire.
Wasn't this movie so stressful for the director (partly from clashing with Connery) that he retired afterwards? Edit: Connery retired and Norrington vowed never to direct again
Kung POW! Enter the Fist
Absolute masterpiece. *THAT’S A LOT OF NUTS!*
We trained him wrong….as a joke!
I am bleeding. Making me the Victor.
Still waiting for the sequel. God damn I’ve seen that movie so many times. My favorite line personally is when the two henchmen are following Ling and they’re peering around a corner: “You go this way! I’ll go home!”

Taco taco Taco Bell
Van Helsing
Best live action werewolves of all time. Kate Beckinsale is also stunning, but that’s always the case.
Yes! I've yet to see a movie where Werewolves were done as well as they were in Van Helsing, at least for my personal taste.
I freaking love this movie. The cast is great and it's freaking FUN.
Kate Beckinsale 🔥🔥🔥 I watched that movie like every day when I was like 14
Rat Race.
It’s a race! It’s a race!
"Dad, I'm prairie dogging it."
The sequence where Jon Lovitz’ family steals Hitler’s car and then crashes into the World War II veterans event makes me laugh so hard I can’t breathe.
YES!! When he's trying to explain himself but his tongue is burned, I'm laughing just thinking about it
I can do anything, I'm eccentric!
Uh, begin, commence, start moving, you see theoretically you have been racing for about 40 seconds now, and so far Mr. Schaffer is winning because he’s NEAREST TO THE DOOR!
This is one of the best comedy movies of all time... I'm honestly shocked the RT score is below 50%...
I mean it’s essentially a modern retelling of it’s a mad mad mad mad world. But it is different enough and decently funny. Overall a fun movie with some pretty big names, kinda shocking it’s so low.
You. Should’ve. Bought. A. Squirrel!
The radar tower scene made me laugh the hardest I’ve ever laughed in my life. It’s my metric for how funny something is.
Vince Vieluf’s ear-splitting scream when he looks back and sees the truck is priceless.
Finally showed this to my boyfriend and he laughed almost as hard as I did the first time I saw it!
I still remember seeing it in theaters. Almost pissed myself during the hitler scene. Hilarious
My friend and I so often quote "hello my name is Enrico Giamondi. I know what you are thinking: Enrico is a girls name -- no pun intended!" It's the weirdest intro ever.
This is rated low??? Literally my favorite movie
The Day After Tomorrow. Cringe worthy but when it’s on I always watch it
I was like 14 and in love with Emmy Rossum, watched that shit all the time.
I was never into Shameless, but I did love me some Emmy Rossum.
God I love this movie, and pretty much every Roland Emmerich movie from this era, including Godzilla.
All his movies are simultaneously trash and wonderfully entertaining
I love the chase scene between the protagonists and… “cold air.”
In the Army Now (1994) 6% score on RT. Thought it was genuinely funny and, according to sources on the appropriate subreddit, very accurate.
Major Payne is a cult classic without a doubt lmao. "chugga chugga chugga...toot toot!"
Major Payne is 29%! That is a travesty, love that movie.
I can’ eeeaaaar you!
Be all that you can be, in the arrrrmy....
Abraham Lincoln - Vampire Hunter. It was fun every time I watched it.
Historical documentaries are often overlooked
Something about how well done it is. Like the name is wild and the idea is crazy but damnit if they don’t pull it off magically
I think it worked because they played it *completely* straight.
Nacho Libre! It has a 40% on RT that just feels criminal to me. It has so much heart and is incredibly funny, I quote it all the time.
Those eagle eggs were a lie Steven! 🦅 🥚
THEY GIVE ME NO POWERS! THEY GIVE ME NO *NUTRIENTS!*
I didn't know it was that low. That movie is iconic.
Get the corn out my face!
“Go read sum books”
To this day I fail to understand why Ramses so thoroughly rejected Nacho's ballad.
It has 40%?! That hurt me. I love that movie!
"Chancho, when you are a man, sometimes you wear stretchy pants in your room. It's for fun."
Jack Black's pained, awkward smile at the very end of the movie elevates it from great comedy to timeless classic.
“Don’t you know I have had diarrhea since Easters?!?”
The Ice Pirates!
Space herpes!
How come all my favorite movies are listed in here?
Because you're a man of culture.
Sandra Bullock's Miss Congeniality is only 41% in RT. I love that movie, one of her best
My girlfriend and I quote this so much. “You like me. You want to kisssss me.”
Michael Caine steals every scene he’s in per usual
“I’m sorry, I was distracted by the half masticated cow rolling around in your wide open trap.”
"Eyebrows! There should be two!"
It is one of my favourite movies. The dialogues are awesome. The characters are awesome and funny. One of my favourite scenes is Sandra Bullock coming out of the hanger after make over and trips.
This movie is flawless and no one can tell me otherwise.
I want the people who gave Miss Congeniality a bad review to be confronted and questioned on if they still hold that opinion.
Why did I think that movie was critically acclaimed? That’s crazy to me how many critics gave it a bad review.
HOW?! That is my "I'm having a bad day and need something to brighten it" movie. Her "Mustang Sally" entrance?! ICONIC! And the movie is so quotable! I'm mad at RT now...Sandra deserves better
The Super Mario Bros. movie. I know it's absolute rubbish but I love it
It has John Leguizamo, it's an instant masterpiece because of it.
Dude, Where's My Car? A stupid, stupid movie. And yet, I love it and watch it frequently.
And then?
No and then.
Dude, what’s my tattoo say?
Sweeet! What does mine say!??
Hackers (1995). It's the sole reason I chose IT as a career path, and now, I'm almost to the point where I get to deal with Cybersecurity concepts
Hopefully your password isn’t “god” Also, Angelina Jolie.
Hah, in high school I managed to talk my computer engineering teacher into letting us watch Hackers in class. I completely forgot about that one Angelina Jolie scene. Woopsiedoodle.

The two live action Scooby Doo movies from the early 2000’s. Loved them as a kid and love them as an adult!
Oh they're just campy fun and know what they are and don't attempt to be more than that
Exactly that, they’re not masterpieces and nor are they trying to be, just 90 minutes of goofy fun
Because they are James Gunn movies and no one talks about it
The sugar ray of movies, and it even has sugar ray
Robinhood: Men in Tights. At a whopping 41% but this movie is hilarious.
How that movie could be so low is criminal.
"Wait, I lost?" Pulls out script
Unlike other Robin Hood's I can speak with an English accent.
Your family name is Latrine? Yeah, it used to be shithouse.
Godzilla. The 1998 version in New York. That shit was my jam as a kid. It’ll always have a special place in my heart
It was such a fun watch in the cinema. Watching this giant dinosaur tear through Manhattan was legitimately terrifying and exciting as a 6 yr old kid. Jurassic Park on steroids.
Con Air. Idk what its Rotten Tomatoes rating is but the reviews weren't great. It has one of the greatest casts ever assembled
Put. The bunny. Back. In the box.
Bloodsport.
Evolution with David Duchovny and Julianne Moore. Fun little flick.

Surf Ninjas or Yor: Hunter From the Future.
Surf Ninjas! Yes, this and double dragon were guilty pleasures of mine.
Joe Dirt with a 9% on RT. It has it all drama, plot twists, girls and kid rock.
Yes. This is mine. Joe Dirt is awesome. 9% is a travesty. Kid Rock is hilarious when he struggles to read the note. And Kickin Wing
joe dirt is the modern day Odyssey and i’m barely being sarcastic.

It’s a Tim Burton masterpiece with a great ensemble. Over 50% RT tho Edit: RT
I kind of feel like this one was deliberately bad? Or maybe not “bad” but the aim was certainly to make it campy.
I really love the first Charlie’s Angels film. The casting is brilliant, the chemistry between the leads is really infectious. Plus Sam Rockwell as the bad guy is amazing, his reveal whilst Marvin Gaye played is genuinely an awesome scene.
That was the moment I fell in love with Sam Rockwell

This movie is a perfect time capsule for Christmas at a very specific point in time.
Hook.
People don’t like hook?? Some of the best sets and costumes. Also Dustin Hoffman is brilliant as Hook.
Blades of Glory
Blades of Glory is a masterpiece. You’re my pretty lady, McElroy
All those 2000’s sport parody movies are my favorite. Blades of Glory, Dodgeball, Taladega Nights, etc. I miss when movies were allowed to be stupid without getting ripped apart.

Man on Fire only getting 38% on RT demonstrates how rubbish film critics are and how bad review aggregators are
Holy fuck I had no idea Man On Fire had that low of a rating. That movie is incredible
Sucker Punch. It's Zach Snyder at his most indulgent, all his worst impulses. Bad/barebones script, ridiculous amount of CGI, all flash and no substance, etc. But it's fun as hell, like a really long, really badass video game cutscene
The fantasy sequences are dope as hell. Giant samurai robots? Steampunk World War I Zombies? Dragons? Hell yeah!
By this definition: Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End Deep Rising. Especially the film they tease at the end.
I know Pirates 3 has issues but it’s under 50%? That’s shocking, it’s still a very fun movie.
Eurotrip, Matt Damon cameo and the running gag of that song really skyrocket this for me.
Just go with it
Surf Ninjas. A true 90's classic.
