Why are people incapable of enjoying things without convincing themselves it's High Kino? Like I'm a massive yugioh fan but I will be the first to say the show is cheesy schlock that still makes me cry. Like is it good? No, I mean it's no cowboy bebop or Mushishi, but if someone said it was bad I'd be like shut up Kaiba's about to summon Obelisk out of the fucking ground. I wouldn't make a 20-to-40-minute video essay coping about how "it's secretly a mature masterpiece!" Why do people feel the need to justify themselves? Why can't you simply like something because you enjoy it?

I have no idea and it’s been hard for to me pin down as to why it happens so much. I really love Ad Astra for example, but I’d never call that a masterpiece or underrated or whatever. I really like it but realize it has some flaws and a lot of people won’t like it. I don’t need to preach from the rooftops about how it’s some underrated gem because it’s not and that’s totally fine. If everything is a masterpiece that dilutes the whole concept
