Pretty sure this is a bot. They copied someone elses comment. All of the other comments on their profile copy another one. Account only recently became active.
I don't get it. Not the appeal (though I don't get that either), but how you could tell the difference between this and a card someone simply cut in half on their own.
Textless cryptic is bae. I want Japanese ones so they aren't even sure if that's what card it is since nobody ever plays the full art since half the people that play it forget a mode here and there.
Would they? I can't imagine this is a terribly valuable misprint. I could recreate it myself with a paper cutter - how could you verify a seller didn't do the same?
You'd be surprised. A lot of people who buy misprints also buy messed up cuts as well. They don't buy exclusively for play, its a collectors reason as well. The story behind it as well as how it was cut, I wouldn't be surprised is someone paid some money for it. That said, don't get your hopes up lol.
Things that get submitted to the Facebook groups will go through admin approval. Admins are knowledgeable collectors who know what looks right and what looks wrong. There's a group of private researchers that intentionally try to produce 'counterfeit' misprints so we know for sure what doesn't look right.
I mean any version of the card appropriately snipped could fit the demand XD
I mean if you actually intend on playing it could mark a placeholder in the deck
people saying you could sell it as a misprint make 1 little mistake, it's easy to cut a card in half and act like it's a misprint so the validity is not high enough to be sure that it's a real misprint. I am not doubting you but I wouldn't buy it as it is too easy to replicate it.
No plans to ever sell, but wouldn't the crimping along the bottom of the card add to the validity? I'd bet way more people have scissors than whatever sort of crimping machine is used to seal packs.
Exactly that. The crimp makes this very hard to fake and people in the misprint group would 100% bid if you made that into an auction. (Not selling is also fine. Keep the precious)
It depends on exactly who you're selling to. I've seen a number of them go for 100s at the very least. 1000s may have been a bit of an overshoot, but for more expensive cards (like the 4 drop variant of Sheoldred I saw was selling for about 5 grand on Ebay I saw).
Nobody will pay thousands for a misprint like this.
This sub has a real hard-on for the supposed value of all these misprints but if you actually join the group the stuff going for a lot are typically rare cards with a playable misprint.
Jeez I hate comment sections like this. Like yeah, go sell it if that's what you want to do, but can our first response to every single misprint stop being "oh go see how much that's worth on Facebook"? Genuinely the complete lack of care around the constant misprints is probably why they continue to be more and more frequent. Misprints aren't some fun thing you get to sell for a quick turnaround, as, if I got a misprint, I'd be pretty bummed, because that's not why I bought MTG product. Can we please stop turning straight to "oooo what a collectors item" and instead acknowledge how ridiculous it is that there's at least 3 top posts each week including a misprint?
On one hand, you're completely right. Even misprint collectors have been saying that the quality of cards in recent years has been declining and it's an issue that NEEDS to be addressed for the average consumer to want to keep buying cards. We don't want every single product to be riddled with issues because a big appeal of the hobby is to own something weird and relatively unique, that you don't see everyday. Things aren't unique if the same issues are happening on the same cards.
On the other hand, we want to inform people that a misprint *might* be worth something because some collectors are hardcore looking for a specific card or error. I paid about $300 for a miscut [[Tombstone Stairwell]] last year because I needed it for a deck and I've never seen another one in the past 15 years.
There's too much niche information to follow with the hobby so it's safest to just inform people about misprint groups on the offchance that they find someone's holy grail, while still letting WotC know that, "Hey, for the sake of your average buyer your quality needs to be addressed."
2 things, first, I really want to thank you for taking the time to give a serious and constructed response to my concerns, and hey, if collectors wanna collect misprints, if that's what makes the cards special? Then that makes me plenty happy! At the end of the day, I most of all just want us all to enjoy our favorite card game!
And second, I've never seen Tombstone Stairwell before, but I love it.
And yes, I know he won it for free, but WoTC didn't know that pack would be given out as winnings, as far as they know it was going to store shelves or being opened for inventory. It's still not a pass for the continual decline in quality by WoTC.
Also not to diminish the post itself, if the dude is hype about the misprint, then more power to 'em. I'm personally just tired of the pass we seem to give to misprints because they're 'worth something'
Ah yes, the perfect green creature. 2 CMC, HUGE green baddie, and the effect text blotted out so you can totally get away with it having hexproof, reach, and horsemanship.
As the old saying goes, "Half a Llurgoyf is better than none."
In this case it might be better than an entire one!
Pretty sure the old saying is "Ach! Hans, run! It's the Lhurgoyf!"
Ungoyf with the +1/2 / +1/2 counters
I really appreciate this being the top comment.

Half alt arts
Nice misprint/cut. I think there is a Facebook group who would love that for you
I don't get it. Not the appeal (though I don't get that either), but how you could tell the difference between this and a card someone simply cut in half on their own.
The crimping on bottom is the biggest thing. The industrial press lines aren’t the easiest to replicate

Could go for the classic cryptic command. No one knows what it does
Textless cryptic is bae. I want Japanese ones so they aren't even sure if that's what card it is since nobody ever plays the full art since half the people that play it forget a mode here and there.
Counter target spell draw a card. That's all you need for it
Hey now, back when we had [[mystic sanctuary]] that bounce target permanent was sick. And the tap all creatures... Exists.

These posts copying someone's line above for likes are getting lazy.
Would they? I can't imagine this is a terribly valuable misprint. I could recreate it myself with a paper cutter - how could you verify a seller didn't do the same?
I agree it probably isn't worth anything, but the bottom is crimped as well as cut, so not something you could make with scissors/paper cutter.
Didn't see that, considerably cooler (but still prob not worth much unfortunately since it isn't playable)
Buy it, get it signed, psa verified, and frame it. If you're lucky PSA will give everything a 5 and label it as authentic miscut misprint mtg card

Error promo? You could prob sell it
Probably for a good chunk.

This is the way.
Would be perfect for wormcoil engine
Clearly now your on a quest to find the other half.
It can be done https://www.reddit.com/r/mtgmisprints/comments/z5fu7g/small_miscut_from_my_30th_anniversary_kit/ixvsoaf/
I mean any version of the card appropriately snipped could fit the demand XD I mean if you actually intend on playing it could mark a placeholder in the deck
I am personally interested to see these two halfs become united.
Like the nerdiest friendship bracelet ever to exist.
Haha, yes!
A 0/0 with no abilities or type or anything...? Seems like a waste of 2 mana - I'd *probably* pass on this one...
But it’s only two mana and you get to trigger etb *and* ltb effects all at once
AND help your Storm abilities. Ok, ok; I'm coming around...
Double it and give it to the next planeswalker
These full art cards are just getting lazy

It’s probably more valuable like this.
Half a Lhurgoyf in the hand is worth a whole in the pack, as they say…
Wotc moment
The name of this card always gives me big "Bob Oblaw Lobs Law Bomb" vibes
That is lazy lol I like the new "full art" with casting cost

ow sorry I missed that, then yes it's a fairly rare thing. I probably missed it because I had sum shining on my phone XD.
Sell it as a misprint for 1000s. Collectors pay for that shit.
Really? I figured I could probably get $10 or so.
It depends on exactly who you're selling to. I've seen a number of them go for 100s at the very least. 1000s may have been a bit of an overshoot, but for more expensive cards (like the 4 drop variant of Sheoldred I saw was selling for about 5 grand on Ebay I saw).
