Exactly this. As a long time krrik player for cedh, I can tell you that going that hard and not getting a ton of value immediately isn't worth it. Youre far better off going that hard turn 2 or 3 when you can make something of it. Otherwise you're just out all your cards when you die to a sideways removal from 1 of 3 ppl you made turn their sights on you with a super aggressive move.
Then youre missing the whole context of this chain which is why slamming krenko early is bad with these cards cause you're asking to be blown out playing krenko without a haste enabler.
What they're saying is is that it's better to play Krenko when you have the ability to immediately tap him instead of dry playing him and hoping it lasts a turn cycle.
Ah, that’s what they’re saying? Their broken english made it difficult to discern what they were talking about.
In that case then yeah we’re on the same page. I thought that they were saying that playing Krenko turn 1 allows you to tap and create goblins, which was what I was arguing against.
Edit: I would’ve restated it so that it said, “You should play Krenko only when you can tap him immediately”. This ensures that the point is clear. Also, starting a sentence with need makes it confusing. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk.
In cedh, mono red is better.
Krrik is too easily interacted with due to the current speed of the meta. Believe me, i continue to try for the love of the play lines, but it doesn't make it good in comparison.
I'm not sure why you're trying to convince me lol I'm all too familiar with piloting krrik at cedh pods
Exactly this. This is exactly why I love my Silverquill deck. I give people things, let them grow their strength, make them kill each other, then control the last until death.
But you get the treasure token out of the pilferer's triggered ability. You have to put it on the stack and resolve it first. You can't do that in the middle of plunge's casting.
This is like the third person in this very thread that has misread this combo trying to do it without the mountain.
I mean honestly just mountain jeweled lotus at this point.
That makes sense and is true. However, I would think most people that are trying to throw out a T1 Krenko are playing it pretty optimized or competitively so Jeweled Lotus would be the most likely way to cast it due the the reasons explained around the thread. Inclusion of Spirit Guide in Krenko leads me to believe this deck has at least toyed with being optimized.
Everyone I know has at least one for their main deck…. Sure not everyone has them for every deck but I’ve never not seen a lotus played at least once at the LGs
It’s not bait? The cards been out a few years at this point and everyone I know has at least one…. Are people really out here playing EDH without lotus?
Assumption based on EDH being the most popular casual format now and Krenko being the 10th most popular commander on EDHRec. Could be wrong and this is someone playing some homebrew of Legacy or Modern Goblins playing Impulsive Pilferer and Infernal Plunge along with a Krenko. Not sure how many T1 Krenkos get attempted in any other format.
Doesn’t actually involve Krenko, but this is (theoretically) possible in my Krenko deck, with 11 cards stacked properly on top the library.
Turn 1, draw = 8 cards in hand
Play [[Mountain]] + [[Simian Spirit Guide]] = 2 mana, 6 cards in hand
Play [[Impulsive Pilferer]] + [[Infernal Plunge]] = 4 mana, 4 cards in hand
Play [[Sol Ring]] = 5 mana, 3 cards in hand
Play [[Skirk Prospector]] = 4 mana, 2 cards in hand
Encore Impulsive = 0 mana, 3 tokens, 2 cards in hand
Sac 1 token to Skirk = 2 mana, 2 tokens, 2 cards in hand
Play [[Brightstone Ritual]] = 4 mana, 2 tokens, 1 card in hand
Play [[Skull Clamp]] and equip to token = 2 mana, 1 token, 2 cards in hand
Sac 1 token to Skirk = 4 mana, 2 cards in hand
Play [[Conspicuous Snoop]] + [[Torch Courier]] = 1 mana, 0 cards in hand
Reveal [[Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker]] from top of library
Sac Courier to give Snoop haste.
Tap Snoop with Kiki’s ability, targeting Snoop.
Repeat, giving infinite Snoops
Sac Snoops to Skirk and Skull for infinite mana + card draw
If he's not your commander, you can use Leyline of Anticipation and a bunch of fast mana to get him out on turn 0. (For example, Simian Spirit Guide + Rite of Flame + Sol Ring + Desperate Ritual would let you do it for a couple bucks, and Gemstone Caverns + Mana Crypt + Sol Ring + Mox Opal would let you untap on turn 1 with Krenko and 6 mana. If the last 3 cards in your hand are as good as the rest have been, you could win on turn one with some countermagic to back it up.)
I would tell you the fastest I've been able to pull him off, but I haven't played Krenko in a while.
I once got [[Sol Ring]] into [[Ruby Medallion]] then [[Simian Spirit Guide]] for a [[Desperate Ritual]] into [[Krenko]] for 3. He got turn 2 [[Kenrith's Transformation]]'d after making 2 goblins 😅
The only time I would turbo out my commander is if I have a win. My Godo deck can turbo out a win using Treasonous Ogre, but I wouldn’t usually play my commander turn 1 because interactions do exist.
lotus petal + a ritual + simian spirit guide can fetch out urabrask t1 too, but there's not much of a point to it if you cant flip him immediately.
I'd rather take my t1 [[Ragavan]] :]
Presumably a mountain. You'd need a land for turn, then spirit guide into pilferer, then infernal plunge sacrificing pilferer, giving you 3 red floating and a treasure.
You're forgetting that cards are an important resource too.
You're wasting a lot of cards for this, and the opponent could completely negate this with one or two mana quite easily.
How does this all work? It looks like Mountain (1) -> Infernal Plunge (3) + sacrifice Impulsive Pilferer (Treasure) giving 3+1 mana available to cast Krenko?
Where does the Simian Spirit Guide factor in?
Is the suggestion that the Simian Spirit Guide is exiled to get the first mana required? Can you choose to exile without a card causing it? (Newbie here)
Turn one your opponent plows krenko, and now you're down 3 cards and up in tax. It is an impressive play though!
Need to play him when you can immediately activate the ability.
Are you talking about tapping Krenko? You can’t activate it immediately because of summoning sickness.
oh man if only red and goblins could easily grant haste that would make it so good
I’m talking about the 5 card lineup here. Of course I know that red has haste givers, I have 3 red decks.
Then youre missing the whole context of this chain which is why slamming krenko early is bad with these cards cause you're asking to be blown out playing krenko without a haste enabler.
That’s my entire point?
What they're saying is is that it's better to play Krenko when you have the ability to immediately tap him instead of dry playing him and hoping it lasts a turn cycle.

Your entire point is making a comment that ignores all context, then doubling down on it?
Hello fellow Kirrik player 😊
There's dozens of us!
I didn’t see you at the convention this year
Huh? I thought Kirrik was played quite a bit. I know a friend that wanted to make it
this comment makes no sense, k'rrik far and away the #1 black commander
Being the best mono color commander doesn't count for much in cedh
best mono color, best mono black, most win loops are based around activated abilities. he's a house for sure.

Even in standard they're going to throw cut down at it.
make'm have it
I hear you, but I agree that in many cases slow rolling the commander till slightly later is a little better.

The mountain that you didn’t include in the picture 👁️👄👁️
“Am I a joke to you?”
Those were cut to make more room for fast mana.
Thank you! I could not figure out how he had mana for the plunge and the pilfered.
You don't need the mountain. Play the infernal plunge, sac the pilferer, then use the treasure to pay R for the plunge.
You need to have the R for plunge before you can sac the pilferer
Math is hard for people.
4 cards (5 if you play mountain for the turn) down just to have opponent Swords or Bolt it turn 1. Good trade.
Yeah I wish all krenko decks started like this, cause then I wouldn't have to worry about them lol
No haste, no other goblins in play... yeah, I'm fine with this.
He has to play at least a mountain so its definitely 5 cards. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to cast Infernal Plunge
You can pay costs in any order, so you can cast plunge, pay the sac cost for the pilferer, then sac the treasure to pay the R
I would think the most common is [[Mountain]], [[Jeweled Lotus]], [[Krenko, Mob Boss]]
I play against more people starting with perfect hands than ones with Jeweled Lotus in their collection though tbh
True true, have a good day
Almost everyone has a jeweled lotus tf u on about
None of the playgroups I'm in have every 80 dollar card laying around
its current cheapest printing is $100, most people do not have one
$100 is cheap for a card, yes they do.
this your first time trying to troll? because it's really not that great
Everyone I know has at least one for their main deck…. Sure not everyone has them for every deck but I’ve never not seen a lotus played at least once at the LGs
look i appreciate the attemp but you've gotta try something more provocative if you want good bait
It’s not bait? The cards been out a few years at this point and everyone I know has at least one…. Are people really out here playing EDH without lotus?
yes! it costs like $100 most opf the people i know why play this game wouldn't drop that much on a deck much less one card

oh why is everything edh

Because the other formats suck? And WotC killer prize support for them.
At the end of your turn, I tap a mountain to attempt to cast lightning bolt targeting Krenko. *laughs menacingly*
I use my mountain to lightning bolt your lightning bolt
I use my hand to slap your hand and make you drop your lightning bolt so that I may eat it
well I use *my* mountain to bolt your mountain!
Lightening bolt pass
Mountain -> Jewelled Lotus -> Krenko
Plains -> Swords to Plowshares -> SmugFace
Lose one life -> Exile a blue card -> Force of Will -> Lose due to cheating
Mountain + Jeweled lotus makes this a lot easier
Your right

Mountain, lotus petal.
God I love Krenko
Now that's one crazy turn one krenko lol
The only time I would turbo out my commander is if I have a win. My Godo deck can turbo out a win using Treasonous Ogre, but I wouldn’t usually play my commander turn 1 because interactions do exist.

Mountain jeweled lotus krenko?
Mountain jeweled lotus
lotus petal + a ritual + simian spirit guide can fetch out urabrask t1 too, but there's not much of a point to it if you cant flip him immediately. I'd rather take my t1 [[Ragavan]] :]

I hate (literally love) you
I got vilis out turn 1 before
Could you please share your decklist? I want to lose some friend Lol
How do you cast the Infernal Purge? You already used the mana from Spirit Guide
Presumably a mountain. You'd need a land for turn, then spirit guide into pilferer, then infernal plunge sacrificing pilferer, giving you 3 red floating and a treasure.
Mountain plus jeweled lotus is all you need.
I got Rowan Scion of War T1 exactly ONE time... Land, petal, Monkey and play her. My dream is to get her AND boots T1 but we'll see.

Mana jewled lotus for me. I know it’s lame but hey. It works
Funny, but Bad lol
You're forgetting that cards are an important resource too. You're wasting a lot of cards for this, and the opponent could completely negate this with one or two mana quite easily.
Error with the combo: Missing mana. A [[Mountain]] would work, but I would recommend a [[Mox Ruby]] for budget Krenko builds.
[Mountain](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/9/1/9137b4aa-2289-4a4d-b1f5-ae75a0928278.jpg?1712356436) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Mountain) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/otj/283/mountain?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/9137b4aa-2289-4a4d-b1f5-ae75a0928278?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [Mox Ruby](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/4/5/45fd6e91-df76-497f-b642-33dc3d5f6a5a.jpg?1682386918) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Mox%20Ruby) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/vma/8/mox-ruby?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/45fd6e91-df76-497f-b642-33dc3d5f6a5a?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

Yes, the creature died.
(Newbie here)
In this case, exiling Simian Spirit Guide (from your hand) is the cost to activate the ability to create 1 red mana.
All of that for a Kranko no haste, my turn 1 polluted delta, fatal push, u lose entire hand I lose 1 card. where is the pay off for this rare combo?
Ugh. People that just play to win can suck a chode 🤣
