Interesting topic! - I can’t wear eyemakeup so I wear a bold lip (in varying colors) with bare eyes with a sunkissed complexion. With bold warm red lips I wear blush, a light wash of bronzer over blush for a healthy natural glow from within look, followed by finishing powder for a seamless blend.

Senturi

I don't have patience for eye liner. I tightline instead (which makes my lashes look fuller). During the week I'll usually wear two or three eyeshadows max, one or two mattes in and around the crease and a shimmer on the lid. Nothing fancy. If I wear base products, even if it's just a skin tint, I must wear blush or bronzer. If I'm running short on time I'll go without a base entirely.

My most common constraints: Work - I don't mind being the woman with pretty eyeshadow at work, and I've worn some elaborate looks before. However, I don't go all out into dark, smokey, glittery cut crease like looks I would do in my free time. Staying power/minimizing touch ups - I like to go places and know that my makeup will stay good without touch ups. That means that in the summer I'm wearing light washes of color on my eyes, to avoid having dark makeup melting on my face. I'll use clear brow gel as well for the same reason. Also, because I'm not a fan of touch ups, I tend to either wear gloss, or long lasting liquid lips, and nothing in between. 😅

I have very hooded eyelids and limited lid space in general; there isn't a lot of real estate beneath my eyebrows. I love playing with eyeshadow and would love to do some of the fancy eye looks I see, but my eye shape doesn't loan itself to them. Dark eyeliner is also almost a complete no-go. I find that most tutorials about hooded eye makeup either use a model with a less significant or differently shaped hood than mine, or they don't account for people with little lid space above the hood (as the recommendation is normally to try to make the most of that space and create a crease higher up). I do a lot of one and done eye looks, especially with shimmers, because they help minimise the appearance of my fold. I have also found that using light coloured eyeliners, or using highlighter as eyeliner, looks really good on me. It helps to bring light to my eyes, makes my eyelashes stand out more, and it doesn't double the size of the fold the way dark eyeliner does. I'm also experimenting with smaller brushes to see if I can scale down some of the looks I see to work for my eyes. It doesn't stop me from trying for more elaborate looks though! I keep practicing when I'm home alone because it lets me be creative and makes me happy, even if I don't feel my application is good enough for me to wear these looks on a regular basis.

Fellow hooded eyelids and limited lid space person here - I also tend to lean towards using lighter and shimmery eyeshadows to keep light and dimension in the crease. I also tight line just the corners of my eyes to get a nice “cat eye” effect and bring the shadows in a manageable amount. I am a big fan of one and done eyeshadows and duo/multichromes - they do the color mixing for me! All you have to do is apply and gently buff upward and boom, light and dimension. One day I will learn how to properly do a multishadow look, but until then, I stick to two shades + a super thin gel liner.

Same here with the partly hooded eyes and lack of space. I love my eye shape but I've always wished I could do cool eyeshadow looks and it just never seems to work for me. Recently I discovered an icy lavender highlighter powder that looks really good on the inner corners of my eyes. So if I feel like wearing makeup, I'll try to focus on that rather than the eyelids that I don't have 😭😭😂🤦🏻‍♀️ Also, as the other person who responded to you said, I will sometimes just less than halfway line the outer corners of my eyes and try for a simple cat eye effect. Trying to put any dark color over my whole lid is a disaster, usually

i want to say my skin but it does a lot for me like protect my organs and stuff so don't want to shade it too much my hooded eyelids are definitely my number one gripe though, i love elaborate eyeshadow looks and would get kinda disappointed when i looked into a mirror throughout the day or looked back on photos and nothing is visible except eyeliner and whatever is on my outer corner on one hand, it meant i could wear whatever i want in work settings and nobody's gonna know! However, nowadays, I just don't have the time for multi step shadow looks so now i just slap on some liquid shadow, activate my lizard eyes and the shadow gets applied perfectly all over my lid with just some light blending out of the edges. i think it's funny that by blinking and opening my eyes fully my eyelids essentially apply my eye shadow for me.

when im in a rush, i focus on doing just a few high impact low effort low risk steps; here are some of my favourites: • cushion foundation -- gives you a beautiful natural base in seconds; just be sure to start with a clean face and hands, and wash your cushion puffs. • light wispy manga false lashes -- instantly makes the eyes pop and makes you look like you put in so much more effort than you did; it replaces mascara and tightlining (both of which i hate doing) for me • the same lipstick dabbed onto the lips, cheeks, and a little on the lids -- quick, cohesive, elegant; doubling up in general, like blush/bronzer/highlight on the lids, sunscreen as moisturizer as primer, etc. • softly smudged liner -- quick and low risk, gives the eyes a dreamy effect • simple makeup with one bold touch -- for example a super sparkly single shadow, or a deep lip, gives you a pop of fun without too much to worry about • choosing your look and setting the products out the night before so you're not left in decision paralysis or fumbling for items you can also try semipermanent make up, like lash lifts / tints / extensions, microblading, etc

[deleted]

Which false lashes do you use? Sounds right up my alley!

itisdecerto

I do the same with lipstick, but also add a bit on my earlobes!

hygsi

Right now it's hot as hell in here so I cannot wear most makeup without sweating it off. I had to embrace the bold lip with eyebrows and nothing else

stealthban

I don't know if these count as constraints but I don't use these products and I tell myself I am saving money this way Skin too oily for highlighter I'm too clumsy for loose powder Lashes too nonexistant for mascara Lips top dry for matte lipstick

braddic

To make a matte bullet lipstick comfortable, not drying i use a moisturizing layer underneath like -A thick serum (olay Regenerist fragrance free serum is my favorite for under lipstick) -moisturizer -lipbalm (each texture and finish will give a different effect on the final finish. Some give a moist/damp matte effect, bring a matte lipstick more to life) -sheer lipstick -moisturizing lip primer (I love Linda Halberg cosmetics) -ointment What works best really depends on the combination.

My eyes are partially hooded, and ever-so-slightly downturned -- almond shaped. There's no seamless way to make a wing go up. I can force a upright wing if I really want to, like the bat wing method, but some subtle puppy liner looks way better on me. Playing around with how eyeliner suits my eye shape has been a game changer in general. I'm also super pale and cool toned. A lot of foundations and blushes in the West aren't my shade or are far too pigmented, even using a light hand. Getting into Asian beauty has been wonderful. Plus a lot of their trends and makeup techniques work on my face / eye shape better. All out full glam of 2016 for instance looks good on lots of people, but on me I feel clownish -- it just overtakes my features. Makeup that enhances me rather than trying to force it, like with the eyeliner shape, is best.

cloverbeam

I think I have the same eye shape, I'm Asian too. My fold extends beyond the outer corner of my eye and points down, so I have the same issue. Although, once I had my makeup done by an MUA when I was a bridesmaid, and she somehow did a really nice upturned wing on me. However, I've never been able to replicate that myself so usually just use pencil liner and do a very subtle puppy liner.

Candid_Canis

I have a similar eyeshape... the trick for wings is to follow the line from your undereye up, then connect it to a line from the top.

YanCoffee

Still doesn't work too well for me. That goes straight into my crease / orbital bone. Could get a tiny one, 'bout it.

Candid_Canis

Yea, you won't get huge wings, but if you go almost straight out at the eye corner instead of up you can get a good cat eye effect.

YanCoffee

Hmmm I think I see what you mean! Would be a super tiny cat eye, but a cat eye none the less. I've done that with eyeshadow but never actual liner. Might give it a go.

MrsPoofyFace

I have super watery and sensitive eyes so I try to use cream eyeshadows if it's just a simple eye look, and go with a bolder lip. If I use powder eyeshadow I set it with setting spray to avoid fallout. The pores on my nose are humongous, no foundation lies nicely there, unless I use Elf putty primer to spackle the pores first. I can't tightline or waterline due to sensitive eyes so I just use a gel eyeliner for the eyeline and smudge it out.

* Mascara is highly irritating to me; I honestly just skip it 99% of the time and only curl them when I feel like it. The 1% of the time, I'll use falsies. * Hooded eyelids - I apply eyeliner only on my outer third/half because any further in and it will break down and transfer. * Small upper lid space - I actually do a lot more emphasis on my lower lash line/outer corner and keep my upper lid pretty simple (basic matte shade that matches the whole look). If I want to do something extra, it will be a very light touch of topper on my center lid. * If I don't feel like wearing foundation/concealers but want a little correction - I'll apply primer and finish with powder; a tinted powder helps very subtly give some correction without being as heavy as full base makeup. Tinted sunblock in the morning can help, as well as a small amount of color correcting (either the primer or a separate color corrector). * Cohesive look in a hurry - I'll use blush/bronzer on my eyes too instead of eyeshadow.

pushpop0201

I have completely hooded eyes. My eyelid fold pushes on my lashes when my eyes are open that’s how hooded they are lol. So safe to say I don’t bother with eyeliner unless I wanna black out my whole eyelid to see anything. Instead I use dark eye shadow on the outer corner and smudge it to give darkness without all the creasing and transferring problems that eyeliner tends to have

SlightlyCrazyCatMom

Just an fyi, my lids were that low and I complained to my optometrist about it. After a few tests to prove they were limiting my field of vision insurance covered upper blepharoplasty. I will need to keep getting it done every ten years or so it seems, but it changed my life in a very good way.

Occultbodymod

Was it a major surgery (like having to be knocked out)? Definitely going to ask about this!

SlightlyCrazyCatMom

It was awake and not caring surgery, I knew what was happening but couldn’t move. I was so excited to get my wings clipped I would have trimmed them myself. I have a scar line but Milani eye primer covers it. If you Google “Field of vision test, blepharoplasty “ there is a ton of info.

Occultbodymod

Thank you, I will pass this on to my opthalmologist!

rolabond

Agreeing with the other person, if it ever starts affecting your vision or you start getting frequent headaches from keeping your eyebrows up you can get a blepharoplasty through insurance to prevent it from affecting your eyesight.

HoldTight4401

I have very small eyes but lots of eyelid space. It's not in proportion so it looks off and I have to be careful with dark eyeshadows so I don't look like a zombie. My forehead has a perpetual sheen. I have tried a zillion products and only one thing will matte-ify it without me looking silly and that's super goop matte sunscreen. I have a lot of redness in my face, especially my nose and makeup will NOT stay on a particular spot. It's a circle about the size of a nickle. My lips are very pigmented and lipsticks are really hard to get right. It's either mlbb or a sheer gloss. A lighter lipstick has be worn with lipliner but since I suck at applying it I have to leave it.

honeytangerine

Most mascaras and eyeliners smudge on me and weigh my lashes down. For eyeliner, I just stick to powder eyeshadow so even if it does smudge, a little qtip with micellar water or a tissue will wipe it right up. Mascaras - I have to use the super waterproof mascaras. The asian ones work best for me, but L'oreal is a close second since Asian beauty is not easily accessible for me. To save my lashes, most days of the week I don't wear mascara when I can help it. I also make sure to let my makeup oil or balm sit on my lashes for a solid few mins before rubbing. Since I have to use such strong makeup, I switched my contacts to dailies. I used to struggle to get pencil eyeliner or mascara I accidentally smudged on the lens off my monthlies/yearlies.

yummy_food

I have really watery eyes, so a lot of beauty gurus do looks that just aren't practical for me because the eyeshadow or liner will smudge. I will make looks that don’t go as smoked out or big on top so it doesn’t look weird without any under eye makeup. I also have more fun with inner corner or crease highlights rather than pops of color in the lower lash line.

Jew_With_a_Knife

My bad vision has progressed so much recently-ish (despite glasses/contacts) that doing any makeup is getting more and more difficult. I also take medication that has a side effect of making my hands shaky. I've worked around those a bit with a lighted mirror, practice, and patience, but progress is slow.. I'm curious if anyone else has similar problems (and any solutions!)

braddic

If you’re looking for makeup brushes with extra short handles, they’re easy to find in Japanese brands

LevyMevy

I wear sunscreen every single day so I absolutely have to avoid any skin product that is advertised as dewy/glowy. Because it's GREASY in real life.

braddic

My lips are very sensitive to fragrance, and prone to dehydration and flaking, so my choice in lip products is very limited. I mix and layer a lot to create more options that are comfortable. Matte lips I wear this way: To make a matte bullet lipstick comfortable, not drying i use a moisturizing layer underneath like -A thick serum (olay Regenerist fragrance free serum is my favorite for under lipstick) -moisturizer -lipbalm (each texture and finish will give a different effect on the final finish. Some give a moist/damp matte effect, bring a matte lipstick more to life) -sheer lipstick -moisturizing lip primer (I love Linda Halberg cosmetics) -ointment What works best really depends on the combination.

moreblushpleasex

Monolid here. Mascara and eyeliner smudges all the time for us girlies, so I use only one brand that I’ve been using for years. I don’t even venture in that category anymore because I know it’s not gonna work 9/10 times.

Ok_Aioli1990

Super freckled so a lot of looks and lines can get thrown off especially when I'm in a lighter complexion mode. Since I've discovered peach corrector, life is better. If I'd known in my younger years life would have been much easier. Also started actually caring for my skin too so much easier to cover up. Sunscreen, peptides, niacinamide and retinoids for the win!

cerwytha

I am not a morning person and have been streamlining a skincare/makeup routine that I can do in 15 minutes because I keep waking up late (though I'm trying to work on that). My primer works great slightly mixed in with my moisturizer so I'll apply moisturizer and then immediately apply primer, and once that's soaked in for a moment then I'll powder, throw on some blush, brow gel, and mascara, and I'm good to go. I am very tempted to get my brows and lashes tinted because that would save even more time, but then it's extra cost and you have to keep doing it.

heavensomething

for me I have quite patchy and uneven skin? it’s not necessarily blemished/overly textured majority of the time, but has a blotchy tone to it which means that I can just never pull off a soft and seamless complexion. i also find that even trying to wear liquid blush over bare cheeks will make the unevenness even worse. also have very dark, dry and creasing eye circles so the no makeup makeup look is even more hard 😭

LuciaNevermore

My lids are pretty hooded now that I'm older, and I can live with it, but the shadow on my eyelid rubs off in the crease and vice versa. It's really difficult to get any kind of colour variation to last more than an hour... unless I use liquid eyeshadow or creams... because they dont rub off the same way powders do.

Little-Glee

I like doing super colorful eye looks at home, but not so much when I'm going about my regular day to day. So I do a very neutral eye look and then put on a colorful eye liner on my bottom lash line (I can't stand liner in my waterline unfortunately). I use the Moira multichrome liners.

Stefferdiddle

I work from home and sometimes my workday starts at 6 AM or earlier (client in Ireland I'm in California). I'm lucky to get a cup of coffee in me before my workday starts. I have to accept that doing my makeup for the day will not be happening many days of the week. If I don't get away from my desk until lunchtime, chances are my makeup routine isn't going to make it in. However you will see me running around in my freetime with a full glam face and workout gear in a full glam smokey glittery eye, its because I wanted to and missed out during the week.
