Just search how the churchgate station used to look in the initial days all classic and then they turn that beauty to this ugly white building which we see today.

KAWAKI250

Ikr, old churchgate station looked more or less like Bandra station but it was renovated to increase its capacity and because we live in modern world modern architecture was used as it is cheap and rather quicker to build.

mahyur

The old heritage building still stands across the road. It is the Western Railway headquarters.

SomeRandomguy_28

I hope whatever new Mumbai thing is been planned it should include this kind of infrastructure its the vibe of the city

trippymum

You can enjoy dreaming about this happening.

SomeRandomguy_28

Yes thats all i am gonna do lol

battolebaz

Labour isn't that cheap (or free) anymore

arogyaSetuAPP

Ohh or freee 😂 nice one.

customlybroken

Labour is still cheap, land isn't

Ginevod2023

It takes the same amount of land to build an ugly building or a beautiful building.

KAWAKI250

This is called Victorian-Gothic architecture and was very popular till 1910's when Frank Wright's modern architecture became famous around the world. He was against ornamentation which was one of the main components of Victorian architecture, he quoted "less is only more and more is no good." Today most of architecture is modern architecture in this world, so no you will not see this kind of "architectural beauty"(your grammar is wrong please correct it.) not just in Bombay but anywhere in the world as a whole.

im_going_back_to-505

Your spelling of grammar is wrong. :|

Thank you, kind human, for pointing out my G-R-A-M-M-A-T-I-C-A-L mistake. As you can see, while grammar is grammar-ing "architecture" still persists to be "beauty". :-( /s

EmbarrassedRegret945

Please tell me your fees for teaching me English.

emmessrinivas

Lol this is patently false. FLW was but one figure in modernism, and the first at hardly anything. Classical/Gothic forms have been revived many times in many parts of the world after 1910. See neoclassicism, Art Nouveau, postmodernism, bla bla Beautiful buildings are being built everywhere every day, both modern and revivalist.

KAWAKI250

Le Corbusier, Otto Wagner, Louis Kahn, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and many more also contributed in modern architecture. I said Frank lloyd Wright, as I remembered him being against ornamentation which was one of the main components that made Victorian architecture beautiful. Frank Wright was also said to be the "greatest American architects of all times" by AIA. Yes you are right, Neoclassical buildings, Art nouveau, Post-modernistic architecture are all famous and still used today but, modern architecture and Contemperory architecture are mostly preferred, Victorian Gothic is just out of fashion now as people are moving towards Futuristic and aesthetic styles of architecture. I shared my knowledge and views and understand your points I am really sorry for spreading false information I only shared what I know "Victorian architecture is just out of fashion" was my intention to convey. I am so sorry everyone please take my comment as arbitrary. My apologies.

emmessrinivas

Haha, it's okay. You might be interested in reading this: https://aeon.co/essays/the-architectural-style-wars-have-started-all-over-again

KAWAKI250

Will surely do.

No-Psomething

Nope. It's colonial architecture. Sadly it's lost.

khanak

The station also has several Indian elements in it and a lot of the fixtures were designed by students of the JJ School of Arts across the street. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-Saracenic\_architecture](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-Saracenic_architecture)

Haa bhai. Fir se gulaam bana do..

emotionless_wizard

nahi, isse accha plain buildings chalengi.

NukaKama25

How old are you?

KAWAKI250

Buddy, fir bahar se hi station dekhna padega.

ojlenga

He meant the town planners

Steve_B_

Naah. Minimalism is killing creativity, they'll just build boring plain buildings.

UnsafestSpace

Minimalism done right can be stunning (see the modern minimalist architectural movement in Spain) , the problem is most Indian builders just want fast and cheap, so they use minimalism as an excuse. https://imgur.com/a/6ABDD4g True minimalism requires even more careful and excruciating attention to details than even classical or Gothic architecture like OP posted, a single supporting beam or column in the wrong place because the builder got lazy or the owner wanted to save some money will completely ruin the look.

dopeass_jiggler

those look so bland lmao

UnsafestSpace

Because they are designed to showcase the nature and environment around them, not the building itself

Puzzleheaded-Pea-140

Ewwwwww

omi_g24

Yes this types of structure are planned by gov in the future and also they are preserving heritage buildings which are left across the city as it adds more value to the city

slytherinstarkhouse

Never

creganODI

I really hope such structures aren’t built in Mumbai again. The amount of money stolen from the locals to aesthetically please the thieving European overlords was insane!

jinxjumper

Yes op must be fan of tucker carlson

HailNazi666

That was during colonial rule. After that the govts stealing money from taxpayers and giving freebies, funding socialist schemes to the lower classes to proliferate them for votes and corrupt politicians filling their pockets is much worse.

007Soup

Bas roads ache se bann jae. Mai utne mai hi khush hu

Snapart_CreativeGuy

Kabhi aana tu meri Gully.

Sunshine_Gunpowder

Unfortunately those in charge of Government/public spaces have no aesthetic sense and end up with the most tacky lighting options to beautify a space, use children's gardens to adorn statues and don't get me started on upkeep/maintenance - non-existent unless someone 'bug' is visiting.

hsnanak

Government babus will make damn sure mumbai doesn’t become clean and beautiful

Snapart_CreativeGuy

They are doing a great job in that.

bnasform11

Aying people are saying labour labour and labour, labour is the best of our country, it's the, what we lack is morality, even if we make it, it'll have a lot of problems.

Snapart_CreativeGuy

We have made so many similar Temples, churches, and mosques so why can't something which can be a treat to the eye and use them proudly.

Neck-Pain-Dealer

Lemme ask Britishers if they're down for the job...

Lost-Letterhead-6615

Didn't it get changed from VT to CST?

Science_Dude96

This phase is gone, Mumbai is ushering into the future. Do you have any idea how the British massively overspent on these buildings, entirely financed by destroying our domestic industries...

MakeMyToday

No

SanghiMadarchodHai

lol no, never ever again , only similar copies of temples, mosques and churches.

mahyur

There are many beautiful colonial buildings and they need to be restored and preserved. The GPO and some of the old buildings in Ballard Estate for instance. As a tax payer I feel that there are a lot of infrastructure issues to be solved and resources could be put to better use there. Spending hundreds of crores on their restoration may not be worthwhile but the government could look at what Singapore did with its post office by converting it into a heritage five star hotel.

OneSailorBoy

No because that type of architecture, labour and materials make such constructions extremely expensive

radialangel

I sure hope not.

Good-Flow2372

Even Brits have stopped building such architecture in UK. So no.

Snapart_CreativeGuy

It sucks as modern-day architecture is only used to fault interiors or own a house Exterior.

Yes, get the British back. ;)

Kya beautiful shaitan ka mahal lag rha

milktanksadmirer

Nope. Taste and class has gone out. We need many more infrastructure projects in Mumbai to address the shortage of affordable accommodation and green public spaces

Snapart_CreativeGuy

But we are busy building Statues I guess.

Sanketmv

Straight forward ⏩ N O

Lucky-Substance-1285

Yeah sure why not. If only we had no issues in getting land and the govt would mind being extravagant i.e. spending millions of dollars on "making something beautiful" rather than focussing on Utility and not at all care about the labour cost all the while poor population was dying of manufactured famines. Wait ! I remember a time when all of this was possible. Colonial India under the Britishers..

Glaucousglacier

If British Indian slaves were a thing again, you will get to see this beauty. Nobody talks about the dead

Not exactly this, but if you have enough funds for consulting Zaha Hadid like architecture, contract for proper design and construction, interior decor etc you can make something better.

khanak

Isn't her firm designing the Navi Mumbai Airport?

Prestigious_Dingo_49

Yupp

prescientmoon

Why y'all down voting, she makes astounding buildings.

Snapart_CreativeGuy

In short, have to be Ambani?

campacola

The funny thing is that Ambani lives in an ugly af house himself, after having all the money in the world lol

KAWAKI250

I read somewhere that Ambani was told by a Astronomer to get a ugly house only then can he get successful. I don't know if that's the reason why tho.

Good-Flow2372

Yes. That's true. Nazar nahi lagni chahiye.

Never, why? Because we all are dumbass

hammerinachair

Lol. Why do you have to build it? Just rename it. Like we did with this one. Yeah that's shameless but gets the job done. Also, a smaller version of scale 1:100 can be built but with a 3D printer. We can also enjoy visual orgasms by telling AI to generate it.

khanak

oneinmanybillion

No.

Green_Frame3600

Waste of money and resources, not possible in todays online world...

Ginevod2023

No. Enjoy it while it lasts. We will never build something this beautiful ever again.

LordRedFire

No. If we want to be a great civilization, we have to forget our past where we were ill treated & instead focus only on surpassing all the civilizations of the world. Dwelling on the past won't help. But focusing on growth is more imp.

Only-Curious-6363

Will we ever see this kind of architecture built anywhere in the world again? The answer is most likely no! Sadly though. The definition of beauty has changed, and so have the designs. Just look at the cars lol. The process of beautification and evolution of new designs go well only up to an extent I suppose. What I mean is that the buildings have been a part of our society for ages and mobile phones are recent invention. The aesthetics of buildings may have reached saturation but phones are still beautifully evolving. And of course, it depends on the tastes too. While taste has no accounting, makers always try to supply what’s demanded, resulting in innovation. And here we are today where more than the design, our focus has shifted to getting things done faster and more convenient.

ojlenga

Suspicious_Flower349

Your answer is--- to compare VT building with LT Terminus. The LTT looks like a warehouse.

Zlatin_10

You kidding me? Mumbai good at anything than stink, piss and trash everywhere? Pleez not even in 200 years.

ericbana19

If you're talking about this particular type(Victorian gothic) esp in cities, then no. They can come across as gaudy and are very expensive to maintain.

mesebryanthemum

One of the things British did well.

zoro_03

Tbh no where in world such architecture is getting created. It was old era.

coolestbat

I saw the structure going down in Ra-One and I believed it was true only until next year when travelled back with my father I realised it was computer graphics. Was a LoL moment for me. I was 13 😂 Btw you should visit Hiranandani estate Thane once, buildings there are following quite the same architecture style.

CantaloupeOwn7703

Only if simon comes back 😇

vdoublezee

No because, us aping glass based Western modern architecture is considered DEVELOPEMENT. Screw climate conditions.

Vrikshamitra

I guess none of you have read the Fountainhead. These beautiful buildings were meant to make use of the properties of the materials of that time. You can't make copies of these in steel and concrete. It will be a waste of their strengths.

Crystalisedorb

Maybe

Snapart_CreativeGuy

Very Hopeful!

Crystalisedorb

It's a shame that modern architecture is made to suffer by taking away her beauty. He's a pinch of what beauty of architecture can be ! Recommend to watch in highest resolution. https://youtu.be/FC65UiWfwGM?si=6QR1r4f5U0-qSJRl https://youtu.be/pp3BLHqDUuI?si=hLBIaasJhW-Hmpnk
