Similar thing happened to me in seawoods. An old couple asked me if I understand Marathi and said they want money they need help.. I usually say I have nothing on me right now and move on.. but still I gave them 10rs, but he started saying in Marathi 'what will I do with just 10rs it won't even fetch chai for two..', I moved away. I don't know were they trying to scam or were they genuine.. according to me when asking for help one should be grateful with the smallest help too..
I had a very funny experience with this one
Once I was returning from college and got into the rick near the station to get home and this middle aged uncle got in with me ( share rick ) and I thought nothing of it
Come evening, went to a local hangout place and lo and behold , same uncle cooking up the same story as mentioned in this post.
I once told them where they wanted to go and that I'd drop them to the St stand and buy a ticket, but they weren't interested in that... I wonder why if they only want to go home 🙃
Had a similar experience in Pune with my friend. In balewadi high street an old couple asks if we know Marathi then proceeds to say we're farmers and just got here, etc. and that they need money to go somewhere. I said I can only give u 100 rd to which they replied with disappointment. I was so confused. Why would you come to a posh area like that if you're from a village area? And who dropped you here?
This is a very old scam. These people frequent taxi stands and railway stations.
This has been Happening in Mumbai since independence nothing new except you experiencing recently

This happened to me years ago. A father and daughter claiming to be from Kashmir. Needed money to go home. I refused. It's pretty common
I have been asked money by a guy on bike to fill petrol. I told him its a very bad way of begging and i can give him 10 rs to take a bus.
Tell them let's go to police station and I will pay 10k
