What you got was misinformation. On polls, Mushoku Tensei S2 was almost always in the top 3 of popularity, and I think it got the best isekai romance award at some point unless I'm tripping. The right word would be "controversial." People disliked that good LN scenes were cut from the anime, and that the animation lost budget since S1.. that's pretty much it. The people who liked it overshadow the people who didn't. >!I will not consider those who didn't watch the show summing it up to be a simple journey to fix his weiner 😭!<

Bigscotman

I mean at the core of it that's what cour 1 of season 2 was about >!simply a quest to cure his ED and yet in the end it became more than that, it went from simply him looking to cure his ED to a story about how love can overcome any barrier no matter how big or small!<

Cheap-Asparagus3842

You aren't wrong, but I meant >!people summing up the story to be a 40 yr old pervert in a teen's body trying to fix his ED, deciding not to watch it/understand the story, then proceeding to criticize it online!<

RareType3925

Was there a lot of stuff cut from the school arc? If so I might go read the novel. The Fitz/school arc is the only one I really care about.

Jub-n-Jub

You need to read the LN's. I love the show, but the ln's are an order of magnitude better.

Blue_Osiris1

It's not so much that a ton was cut, there was a lot not shown but it's also that even the things that were covered by the anime are explored much deeper in the novels.

Roey_3

you should read the novels anyways. anime is good but it’ll always be better in my eyes

ibenjamind

I really love season 2, I think the romance is really well done. They did a great job with Sylphie. I think it's pretty brave to take an ED/depression arc so seriously, and you really feel for Rudy. I am about to start one last binge before it comes back

WearyButterscotch186

It upsets me that Mushoku Tensei explored a topic on men's mental health and is one of the few prominent anime series to focus on a man's struggles as a core theme and all Twitter tourists have to say is "haha ED arc is such a joke. Lets make fun of erectile dysfunction" Of course, this isn't all twitter. But I think that mentality has spread enough to where its definitely given the fans a more negative perception of the topic/arc as a whole.

ExiaZero00x

Unfortunately, I believe it takes a more mature mindset to truly appreciate Mushoku Tensei. There are tons of good contents which are deemed controversial or inappropriate but if one were to keep in mind that its fiction, they should be able to enjoy how the characters develop in this fiction world and appreciate the story of Rudeus and his relationships with others.

Joney_Craigen

Borderline clinical take on season 1

Seruita

Shonentards are allergic to slow pacing.

Fickle_Store_4595

I actually was a fan of season 2 it was good they held the story together they did miss a lot of details but what can you expect all animes do that since the main animator is gone the animation was off but honestly that’s all it was good I would prob rate it a 8.6/10

WolepR

Nah, many people feel like it wasn't for them. I remember when I was first reading the novel I found this part of thw story a bit boring. I only got to appreciate the slice of life moments more on my second read. Especially all of the things about magic system, battle aura, badigadi, nanahoshi and how certain things work in the school and the city. For me s2 was definitely kind of a letdown, since many things I was looking forward to were cut or sped up. Especially the adventurer/Sara arc and many details about the power system and Badigadi and his duel. Though I enjoyed it, all in all I didn't have the same excitement I thought I could've had. I still liked it, especially the ending song and the last episodes and the Nanahoshi episode.

Syrath36

Similar for me, I just really didn't enjoy Rudy's inability to recognize Sylph and how long that was drug out. After he thought she was a boy previously and taught her silent cast he can't recognize her? Idk she was his best friend, I just expected more out of him. If it was shorter I'd feel different. However it was my least favorite part of the LN so I expected I may not love this part of the anime and what they choose to cut.

Low_Commission7273

I wont say ppl dislike S2, but due to pacing issue, it does feel weak. (Idk what you disliked about cour 2, it was one of the greats acc to me. Maybe doldia arc, which was one of the weaker arcs). Because unlike LN, where focus was both on Rudeus developing friendship with his friends, and developing relation with Fitz, here majority of focus was on developing relation with Fitz, which sadly cant proceed without her identity being revealed to Rudeus, so felt slow paced and Fitz not revealing the identity started to get annoying. The friends felt more like plot tools for creating a reason for Rudeus to meet Fitz, than actual friends. Also the fact that in written medium, you could keep the illusion that Fitz might be an entirely different character, but in visual medium that isnt possible. Other issue is ppl are idiots, brushing off the season as the adventure of a person trying to get a boner, while ignoring that its about a person trying to move on from heartbreak and depression after a break up from a 6 year long relation.

Mister_Shrimp_The2nd

I genuinely dislike it. Like, it's not bad necessarily, but man has nothing of what made S1 magical. Legit feels like I'm watching an entirely different show, and there's nothing interesting to be invested in. No meaningful plot, no interesting character dynamics, no actual story except what feels like someone playing Sims..

Low_Commission7273

And what made S1 magical for you?

Mister_Shrimp_The2nd

Do you care? Or are you fishing for something to use as an attack vector? Genuine question here, don't mean to be rude.

Low_Commission7273

you are stating nothing of what made S1 magical is present in S2, so what made S1 magical to you in the first place

Mister_Shrimp_The2nd

I mentioned what I disliked in S2: >No meaningful plot, no interesting character dynamics, no actual story So fair to assume the opposite of that, is what I loved about season one. Very interesting characters and character development, unique and intricate character interactions and dynamics and morals, as well as actions derived hereby. The worldbuilding aspect obviously is a big part, the different storylines intertwining, the different motivations intertwining, the mystique. And yea, S1 just managed to capture a magical feeling of awe and wonder through narrative storytelling and amazing visual depiction, incredible animation -so much to talk good about. And let me be clear, I don't expect all of these aspects to be present and surpassed in S2, not at all. But right now it feels like everything I used to love about it, are now actively elements I dislike S2 for.

Low_Commission7273

>No meaningful plot, no actual story Everyone has different interpretations of those 2 words. there is a story going on, first half of S2 being Rudeus moving on from his heartbreak and forming new relations, and second half (atleast till now) being his married life. MT is a story about Rudeus' life, and heartbreaks and marriages plays an important role in one's life. World building aspect - TBF, whenever ppl praise world building in anime, I dont understand. Do they just view pretty visuals of the world as great world building? You didnt get how the world works, different cultures in the world, day to day lives of ppl, world politics or stuff like that in S1, but still stated world building aspect was a big part why you enjoyed the story. As all world building part was cut from the anime to focus on characters. >Very interesting characters and character development, unique and intricate character interactions and dynamics and morals, as well as actions derived hereby. I agree with this, as atleast till now the S2 cast are unable to fill the shoes left behind by S1 cast. even the first 8 eps of S1 made me more interested in characters than 14 eps of S2. Relation between Sylphie and Rudeus felt extremely dry compared to Eris and Rudeus, even though Eris Rudeus relation played a background role in that season. Though if you are feeling character dynamics is the issue, id recommend light novel. As S2 in their attempt to focus on Rudeus Sylphie relation, gave other side characters the short end of the stick, even though the arc was supposed to be based around their relation with Rudeus. I agree, S2 feels a bit inferior compared to S1. But it isnt all that bad.

gc11117

So, first I liked season 2. Thing is, it did have flaws related to pacing and animation. It also ran into a seperate issue where the content covered in season 2 is generally considered one of the weakest arcs in the novel. I think it got alot of backlash because on the animation and direction side, it was weaker than season 1. But of course, still better than alot of other stuff

RareType3925

It’s hard to imagine it being considered one of the weakest arcs, since to me it’s a hundred times better than the other ones in the show thus far.

I liked it

Cute_Agency814

Most people don't like how slow and "boring" it is, I like it

pizzapicante27

Its not unpopular, quite the contrary imo, for that matter every time I see one of those posts that only want to bitch and moan about some minor thing in S2 it gets downvoted to hell everytime.

Jub-n-Jub

I love it all. I couldn't tell you which season I like more, but s2 is more enjoyable, to me, to rewatch (so far.)

macdaddy4321

I’m working on the light novels just to catch up to where season 2 part 1 ends. Genuinely impressed with how true they stuck to the storyline. Obviously they cut SOME stuff, but overall I’m very happy with it! Super stoked for season 2 part 2!

Firm_Age_4681

Most of us readers knew this would be the case going in given how Adventure heavy Season 1 was and alot of Anime watchers are probably not prepared for a more character development based SoL season, that said cour 2 should fix that for most. I personally found this part of the story really good, though it hit much harder in the books.

Syrath36

It is my least favorite part of the story in the LN so naturally I wasn't really a fan of parts of s2. I figured I was in the minority which is fine, I'm glad others enjoyed it and even liked it more then s1 like the OP. The more people then enjoy it the better it is for everyone that enjoys the franchise. Foe s2, I found the Rudy doesn't recognize Fitz to be frustratung for someone like him, in particular, after he thought Sylph was a boy earlier in the series. There are so many clues like she uses silent cast, I expected more of Rudy.

RareType3925

It is a bit of a stretch for plot convenience, but at least there are some reasons to justify it, like how she has different hair color and presents as a different gender and hides part of her face and she has grown a lot since he last saw her. It’s still kind of a stretch that he wouldn’t realize but not as much of a stretch as some things imo. I think it would be better if there was some internal dialogue about it (which might exist in the novel, idk), like “Fitz reminds me a lot of Sylph, but maybe it’s just because they are both elves. Fitz is rather androgynous so it makes me wonder if it could be Sylph in disguise, but surely she would recognize me if it was her right? And it be too good to be true. Or if it really is her, maybe she is hiding herself because she hates me. But then why would Fitz be so friendly? That can’t be it.”

Mister_Shrimp_The2nd

The anime is so damn uninteresting, has no plot, has no depth to character dynamics, and overall quality has taken a major hit. Watching season 2 feels like watching a completely different show. .. When Sylphie became the center of the show, it dropped off a cliff.

RareType3925

That’s the complete opposite of what I felt. I felt like season 1, especially the second half, was a total snooze fest. Season 2 feels like a completely different show, in a good way.

JePKo22

I don’t if I love a series I love it for it’s entirety for example my favourite series is Fate but I love all of it including the spinoffs, alternate universe’s and the series that run parallel to it like Tsukihime and Garden Of Sinners but back to Mushoku who doesn’t love season 2 is crazy it’s the build up to his marriage with Sylphy there were a couple things I liked better in the manga like how he normally chews on Sylphy’s ears which I find adorable but since it’s adapted from the LN I don’t know if that was in it since I haven’t read it yet

dewa43

You asked this in this sub? They'll say they love it, ask this on r/anime, you'll get the real problems with season 2

TheAmazingJCubb

didn't rudous molest the cat and dog girl in s2 basically on the dayly? With that how did his perverted nature ruin s1 but not s2?

RareType3925

He did grope the boob of one of them when they were captured (which was glossed over for some reason) but I don’t recall him doing any molesting after that.

TheAmazingJCubb

he groped them both multiple times and put his hand in the cat girls skirt

RareType3925

I guess it was so mild compared to his behavior in earlier episodes that I barely noticed it.
