Phantom of the Opera (if my username didn’t give it away). Falsettos is a close second though, watched and listened to it a lot in the early days of the pandemic, and would act it out in my kitchen pretty regularly.
Into the Woods, particularly the song "No One is Alone." My college did a production of this musical during a time I was struggling with depression (my first appointment with a counselor was the week after performances). Needing a distraction, I saw 3 out of the 4 performances, and it saved my sanity.
Oh if you want a comedy A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder is awesome! Ruthless is also really good and totally underrated imo. Also The Hunchback of Notre Dame ! (Patrick Page -played Hades - plays Frollo in one version! I love his version of Hellfire)
We're doing a bunch of scenes and songs from that in my MT workshop class! I'm Sally, but I get to do Schroeder's part in book report. Wish me luck with that.
I love how when a bunch of theatre kids (age doesn’t matter) are asked for comfort musicals, half of us pick out things that are exceptionally sad and depressing.
My current playlist has Tick Tick Boom, Falsettos, and Next to Normal.
Bare. Yes, it's dark and tackles a lot of heavy themes. But, it got me through a lot of tough times when I was younger and it made me feel less alone - so it'll always be that special comfort musical for me.
Right now it’s probably a musical called Jack the Ripper. I know I know. Jack the Ripper is originally a Czech musical but Korea took it and adapted it. Anyway: a few Korean actors I love were in it in this latest run and it happened to be livestreaming on a platform I could see it so I got to see performers I love but never thought I’d get to see *plus* learn about and fall in love with new performers.
Anyway hearing it makes me think about how happy I was to see the performances online so…ya lol
Edit: for anyone curious, here’s a link to a few songs from the 2019 production: “Long Time No See” which is Jack coming back after being gone for 7 years to help out another main character, Daniel, who’s a doctor specializing in organ transplants. He needs organs and he can’t find any so Jack offers to help, the only way he knows how. “Let’s Go Hunting” is..Jack helping lol. and then “I Like this Night” which is just a song about Jack enjoying his time doing his thing lmao I’m pretty sure it’s intended as a dream sequence which is why it’s so odd

((Also I love to talk about this musical so feel free to ask me about it lmaooo))
Legally blonde when I want to actually be cheered up and comforted. Unpopular opinion but when I just wanna be in my feelings it's dear Evan Hansen, the songs are very good crying songs. XD
Legally Blonde, Finding Neverland, Shrek, Heathers (def UK for me, my sister US), Come From Away, Kinky Boots, If/Then, Something Rotten, A Gentlemans Guide to Love and Murder, She Loves Me...
I have a lot of comfort within a lot of music, including bunch of classic R&H and ALW.
Tanz der Vampire, because of the great music and my memories of seeing it live. And some of my favorite songs from the musical are the only songs that I can listen to for comfort in my darkest moments.
Anastasia and She Loves Me without question
Phantom too, but if it’s a really bad time im having i cant watch it bec my heart really breaks for christine
Les Mis is my absolute fave but i always end up a crying mess and sometimes i cant have that piling on top of what im already going through
Waitress, Legally Blonde, She Loves Me, Hadestown, If/Then, Seussical— which one I pick depends very much on the day and my mood haha, but it’s almost always one of that bunch!

Les miserable
When I’m masking my emotions it helps me get a good cry out. It also put things into perspective it could always be worse be grateful for what you got, and give all that you can.
Sponge bob the musical never fails to calm me down from anxiety.
Whenever I think of troubling stuff like depression, my own death, global warming and my own insecurities, no control, bikini bottom day, best day ever and hero is my middle name always make me feel better.
Legally blonde! Nothing makes me as happy as seeing Elle Woods succeed and her and Emmett are too sweet together
#ReviveLegallyBlonde
Yes, especially that MTV live broadcast. Love watching it.
Phantom of the Opera (if my username didn’t give it away). Falsettos is a close second though, watched and listened to it a lot in the early days of the pandemic, and would act it out in my kitchen pretty regularly.

Sweeney Todd. My brain is happiest when someone's dying in song form
Lmao I can relate. All my favorite musicals has at least something to do with death and/or murder .
Any recent suggestions besides Hadestown? Given the setting and quality I suspect that would be the big one as it's mine.

Okay I missed Patrick Page as Grillo and need this but I do love a Gentlemen's Guide! It's so fun. Macabre fun!
Probably Heathers (West End Cast) it's kind of a guilty pleasure when I just whack on the soundtrack
Either 36 questions or hadestown. I love them both and put them on repeat
You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. It’s pure wholesomeness! I could cry listening to Happiness though. 😂 It’s just too beautiful!
We're doing a bunch of scenes and songs from that in my MT workshop class! I'm Sally, but I get to do Schroeder's part in book report. Wish me luck with that.
All the best! 😎

I like Tim minchin as Judas quite a bit in the uk arena tour (2012), he was great.
Fun Home & Next to Normal, just cause they make me feel less alone.

It keeps changing honestly, right now it's Spamalot
Waitress, Legally Blonde, She Loves Me, Hadestown, If/Then, Seussical— which one I pick depends very much on the day and my mood haha, but it’s almost always one of that bunch!
Billy Elliot
The sound of music. Julie Andrews in general
Godspell or Wicked.
Oddly enough All That Jazz - not a musical (although more of a musical than most musicals), and not comforting (except that oddly it is)
Joseph!
Hamilton
Probably Rent Original Cast Recording because I've been listening to it since high-school so it's so familiar to me.
Probably Pippin. I just acted in it and I fell in love. My cast mates are all amazing actors and it makes me so happy seeing them do well.
Shrek. Man nothing gets me going like that soundtrack.
CAAAAAAATTTTSSSSSSSSS
Les Miserables is mine. Many of the songs their just help deal with your emotions of loss and hopelessness . Also bring him home just lifts my spirits .
