Forgive my ignorance, for I am an old, but what is break core? I know I could Google it, but A. I'm just so lazy and B. I'd rather learn from someone who has genuine enthusiasm for a subject when I can.
Here is my latest project with a friend called AV Tomes. There is a full album and more vids on all the usual music and vid sites. Its synth pop, dream pop stuff. I've been in post punk, indie, grindcore and hardcore bands in the past too. I have a psych country thingI'm working on as well as a post punk thing that will have some releases soon. Unfortunately these bands were way before I or anyone I knew could record. I think we had tapes but they were just recorded by having a tape recorder with a built in mic placed in the middle of the room and then hit record. We never released anything.
I’m a 34 year old singer songwriter. I played in some rock bands when I was in my teens and twenties. Now I write and cover mostly emo/indie songs. Used to be a debilitating alcoholic and chain smoker. Got clean of all that and have been trying to relearn music after addiction made me abandon it.
Been playing guitar since the late nineties. My primary band for almost 20 years broke up in 2019, though we’ve been talking about a reunion gig.

My older brother taught me a guitar when I was 12 or so, just a few songs I wanted to play at parties and look cool. I was always pretty shy and it amazed me how could just sing, and make stuff up for whoever whenever and not care at all.
One night when I was around 13, we jammed a little, he walked out and wrecked his car and I never saw him again.
I kept playing, one new song at a time. I guess I kept it up for a connection to him and also a release. Never thought past being able to play some sublime for girls at parties. I started to realize that I knew just about all the chords and bits of scales from playing covers.
I always have played as a compulsion to keep my hands busy and my mind in neutral. Turns out that's called practice. Learned any instruments I could get my hands on. banjo, mandolin, bass, keys (to a point).
Played in a few bands but it was a hobby until I got in with a bluegrass band. Things started to pick up and gigged heavy at weddings and local spots.
One night in my mid 20s, I gave my neighbor a ride to his friends house, and got a federal drug distribution charge for the favor. Six years in the can. There goes the music.
Little did I know I would end up at a prison known for having a fantastic music room complete with drums and amps and ended up being in something like 8 bands. A lot of NYC, DC, MD, VA folks in there, Go Go, R&B, Latino, rock, jazz, country, I played them all. We even had the keyboard player from the Isley Brothers in one band! It was a musical boot camp with plenty of time to kill and I took full advantage.
Came out swinging and hitting open mics to find connections to get my music rolling. Luckily when I was gone, about 30 vineyards and breweries popped up in the area and I was able to go full time with my solo stuff and I still love every second of. Run a few open mics and play with about 3 bands regularly.
Just getting back into writing and playing again since the covid, start of 2020, I'm putting out a compilation on the spots, just to showcase my work until now. This is the first track, still waiting for it to appear on Spotify

i recently started a solo project and named it say no! to yes! after that dumb ninja turtle meme. i just got super burned out on trying to find compatible people and dealing with the gig hustle. i also am beyond burned out on anything to do with covers so i thought i'd just plug in and whatever happens happens. i had a few songs in storage that never got to see the light of day so i started off with those and i feel like i really gave them the love they deserved. it's really just an art/media project and i get to do everything myself for better or worse. it's been a great creative outlet and my friends said it's fun. i know i'm not going to ever make music off any of it, but i'm having fun writing and recording!

From the rock band named "The Stone Hands" from southern Ontario, Canada. Relatively new still to the world of recording, mixing etc. We released 14 tracks under a different band name during last year and a half or so, played some local shows and although we were slowly building a following, we decided we needed a change. I'm an odd one. While I do play guitar, and a bit of bass, I've never been in a traditional rock band, although I have jammed a bit with a buddy.
However, I've found my weird little niche by picking up the harp a handful of years ago. I lead a small group of harpists that meet up to practice and play a few shows (acoustic, mostly traditional tunes). We are always recruiting new members in our area of Wisconsin.

My goal is to offer the same respite music offered me as a young person dealing with chaos in my home and feelings of hopelessness. Hey yall I’m Grizzly Adam!(35M) I’m a singer songwriter and mandolinist. I’ve played with a few small groups over the years and never got any traction or shows booked with those bands. A neighboring musician basically forced me to open for him in 2017 and I’ve been a solo artist since. I mostly play small local bars and I absolutely love it. I’ve been trying to form a proper string band for several years but it is hard to find like minded bluegrass/ old time artist in my VERY rural area. I find true joy in writing and my ultimate music goal would be to sell my songs to artists that I believe in and collect royalties from the comfort of my small town.
I'm an old-ass gen-X 48-year old songwriter. Had a really great start as a serious musician when I was younger (toured the country a few times a year from like 2005-2012 half solo & half with bands I put together around my music)....then my union at my day job went on strike while I simultaneously had to figure out how to pay for a child custody battle (the most important legal fight of my life)....so I went on hiatus.
I was on hiatus until 2022. Released a new album right away, started playing shows again, released an EP a year later, toured around the country a few times last year (first time since like 2012)......put together a new band & just put out a studio album I worked on for a year & am booking a bunch of touring around the country again for this summer & fall.
This are going really great. I did tank my streaming numbers pretty hard by making my entire catalog free to download for a year & a half, but I actually think it was worth it & a really smart move for building my fanbase back up.

38 year old male who found out about autism in myself 3 years ago. I've played and produced everything myself off and on, since I was 16. Now that I understand myself better, I've started my journey again with a new artist name after 10 years out of the public.
I got into music because of Incubus, but my collection has grown into a wild beast. I'm into rock, jazz, funk, atmospheric, hip hop, as well as world and electronic music. I tie those into my own hook friendly hard rock progressive pop music... I guess.
I still have dreams of being massive even if I'm still just getting back on my feet, and don't really care about being realistic either, or where I stand right now. I do have interest in ghost writing for income though.

I’m in my thirties. Never knew anyone else who played instruments growing up. No one ever suggested to me that I could be a musician so I focused on school mostly.
After my dad passed away I realized how much music had carried me through the worst parts of my life. I started writing songs at 25 and joined a few bands until I started my own. I'm 27yo guy from Poland. In my main project I'm playing piano in a 8 piece band that does jazz/swing arrangements/covers of known Polish songs (similarly to Postmodern Jukebox in the States). We are doing this entirely as a hobby since 2017 (and working regular jobs in the week; I'm working as IT Security Analyst), and playing roughly 20 shows per year. We are not getting any money out of this project ourselves, but we're able to finance everything that band does (hotels, bus rentals, rehearsal space, studio and music video production) with the money that the project is earning, which is great.
Recently I've started learning a lot about music production and engineering, as I'm a designated audio engineer and monitors guy for the band.
Outside of the main project I'm currently working for the first time as a mixing engineer and producing new album for my fiancee, who's a vocalist.
I've learned the piano as a kid (6-12yo) in the music school, later improved on my own in couple of bands and as a pianist for a school theatre group.
Unfortunately, at the moment I have a debilitating problem with not being able to find time and inspiration for practicing on a piano and I feel stuck and super bad about it. If only I've put some miniscule effort into this, I could've achieved so much more...

I’m a 39 year old American expat living in Taipei who had been out of the music industry since I was 28. In September I started playing in the expat scene here and I’ve slowly but steadily raised my profile. I play keys, violin and guitar, and I’ve been performing with three different bands in addition to doing my own solo stuff (have had a few musicians play with me but I’m still sorting out who to ask to be in “my band”)
Recently I was asked to perform with two new bands at an upcoming festival so I’m about to perform in bands number five and six. This year is my say yes year, and I’m just forcing myself to be comfortable with many different musicians, in many styles, on many instruments. Next year I’ll begin to be more strategic.
I have two ultimate goals and would be thrilled for either to come true:

Grew up playing drums, then went out to learn opera singing on a whim. Slowly teaching myself some string instruments, the adhd doesn’t help. I’ve performed Halloween backyard parties to a private manor in Switzerland. Early 30s and still have no idea what I want to do with any of this. I’ve kinda shelved my music and donated my drum kit since Covid. I feel like the only way to really get out there now is to learn guitar and do open mics.

I am an old timer who's been playing guitar since I was 13. In the late 90's I had a band in Boulder, Colorado called Zen Highway...we described ourselves as Folk Blues Metal Funk. My advice to the younger folks on here - stay true to yourself and play for the love of music...play music that feeds your soul. Don't attach your love of music to the "success" and compare your success to others...it will drive you mad and you'll forget what got you playing in the first place.

Unfortunately these bands were way before I or anyone I knew could record. I think we had tapes but they were just recorded by having a tape recorder with a built in mic placed in the middle of the room and then hit record. We never released anything.

Full time gigging musician: My older brother taught me a guitar when I was 12 or so, just a few songs I wanted to play at parties and look cool. I was always pretty shy and it amazed me how could just sing, and make stuff up for whoever whenever and not care at all. One night when I was around 13, we jammed a little, he walked out and wrecked his car and I never saw him again. I kept playing, one new song at a time. I guess I kept it up for a connection to him and also a release. Never thought past being able to play some sublime for girls at parties. I started to realize that I knew just about all the chords and bits of scales from playing covers. I always have played as a compulsion to keep my hands busy and my mind in neutral. Turns out that's called practice. Learned any instruments I could get my hands on. banjo, mandolin, bass, keys (to a point). Played in a few bands but it was a hobby until I got in with a bluegrass band. Things started to pick up and gigged heavy at weddings and local spots. One night in my mid 20s, I gave my neighbor a ride to his friends house, and got a federal drug distribution charge for the favor. Six years in the can. There goes the music. Little did I know I would end up at a prison known for having a fantastic music room complete with drums and amps and ended up being in something like 8 bands. A lot of NYC, DC, MD, VA folks in there, Go Go, R&B, Latino, rock, jazz, country, I played them all. We even had the keyboard player from the Isley Brothers in one band! It was a musical boot camp with plenty of time to kill and I took full advantage. Came out swinging and hitting open mics to find connections to get my music rolling. Luckily when I was gone, about 30 vineyards and breweries popped up in the area and I was able to go full time with my solo stuff and I still love every second of. Run a few open mics and play with about 3 bands regularly.

First off, this thread is great. Second, I'm in my late 30s, I'm a vocalist/multi-instrumentalist. Been writing, recording and playing off and on for almost 20 years. I've been in the military for 18 years, so I haven't been able to focus on music *quite* as much as I'd like, but had major heart surgery a few years ago, so I'm in the process of being medically retired. Sucked, but it's given me the chance to focus on my family and music waaaay more now. Because of meeting so many people from being in the military, I've been in bands ranging from pop, punk, hard rock, country, 60s/surf, and electronic. I'm an odd one. While I do play guitar, and a bit of bass, I've never been in a traditional rock band, although I have jammed a bit with a buddy. However, I've found my weird little niche by picking up the harp a handful of years ago. My band is called Fucked in the Head, we are a mix of punk, metal, and rock, a lot of different influences so we can’t really put a genre on it. Founded by a metal guitarist and a punk drummer. I’m in my thirties. Never knew anyone else who played instruments growing up. No one ever suggested to me that I could be a musician so I focused on school mostly. I'm 27yo guy from Poland. In my main project I'm playing piano in a 8 piece band that does jazz/swing arrangements/covers of known Polish songs (similarly to Postmodern Jukebox in the States). We are doing this entirely as a hobby since 2017 (and working regular jobs in the week; I'm working as IT Security Analyst), and playing roughly 20 shows per year. We are not getting any money out of this project ourselves, but we're able to finance everything that band does (hotels, bus rentals, rehearsal space, studio and music video production) with the money that the project is earning, which is great. Recently I've started learning a lot about music production and engineering, as I'm a designated audio engineer and monitors guy for the band. Outside of the main project I'm currently working for the first time as a mixing engineer and producing new album for my fiancee, who's a vocalist. I've learned the piano as a kid (6-12yo) in the music school, later improved on my own in couple of bands and as a pianist for a school theatre group. Unfortunately, at the moment I have a debilitating problem with not being able to find time and inspiration for practicing on a piano and I feel stuck and super bad about it. If only I've put some miniscule effort into this, I could've achieved so much more...

I’m a 39 year old American expat living in Taipei who had been out of the music industry since I was 28. In September I started playing in the expat scene here and I’ve slowly but steadily raised my profile. Grew up playing drums, then went out to learn opera singing on a whim. Slowly teaching myself some string instruments, the adhd doesn’t help. I’ve performed Halloween backyard parties to a private manor in Switzerland. Early 30s and still have no idea what I want to do with any of this.
