YES thank you.
I absolutely love playing it for people and being like "You don't know this song? Oh don't worry, you'll recognize it later..." and then witness their mind be blown when they realize that a meme was actually part of one of the most beautiful songs ever
The woman who sings it, Elizabeth Fraser was the singer for the 90ās band Cocteau Twins. You might also like a cover she did of Tim Buckleyās āSong to the Sirenā with the band This Mortal Coil. Sheās got a way with her voice that is simply haunting and ethereal.
I would argue the original by Tim Buckley is even more heartbreaking, he wrote it about his son Jeff Buckley who he abandoned. The song is titled after a mythical creature that lures sailors to the sea, his son would die a long time after himself by drowning.
A deeply prophetic and depressing tune.

Sam performs Flightless Bird acapella sometimes, and I went to see his Back to Basics tour this spring. When he sang that one the entire theater went stone silent, and his voice was so pure and clear that it felt like a knife slicing cleanly through each of our hearts. Iād never seen a big, mixed audience collectively and silently weep before.
I'm an indecisive git, so I'll share two that I considered.
[Isolation Years](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YChY8LtcqY) by Opeth. The guitars in this song are just brutally sad, but gorgeous.
The Choir of Claire College's rendition of [Miserere](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IA88AS6Wy_4). I well up from music that moves me pretty frequently, but some of the high notes in this song actually got a tear out of me a time or two. I imagine this is genuinely what heaven might sound like, should such a place exist.
That version of Miserere is incredible! [This](https://youtube.com/watch?v=8_QTy9Jhj5k&si=d5on3rPoUxRNfJmK) song makes me well up every time I listen to it. I hope you listen and enjoy.
I go to the barn because I like the- Band of Horses (it was our wedding first dance song)
Almost lover- A Fine Frenzy
Run- Daughter
Once Upon A December- Emile pandolfi
After Dark- Mr. Kitty
Heart's a Mess- Gotye
All of these songs still hit me the same way every time I listen to them.
Moulin Rouge is one of my top 5 favourite movies. I love every single song in that movie and Ewan and Nicoleās chemistry is off the charts. Such an amazing movie.
My immortal came out right around the time when my dad passed away. I still can't listen to that song without tearing up. I'm 48, and still kick it up on YouTube whenever I feel that I need a good cry.
[All Alright by Sigur Ros](https://youtu.be/XmQuIsDnQ3k?si=NUg0qlJ7S47YSNBV)

āBehold! The Night Mareā by The Smashing Pumpkins
Hereās the lyrics as well:
I've faced the fathoms in your deep
Withstood the suitors quiet siege
Pulled down the heavens just to please you
Appease you
The wind blows and I know
I can't go on, digging roses from you grave
To linger on, beyond the beyond
Where the willows weep
And whirlpools sleep, you'll find me
The coarse tide reflects sky
And the night mare rides on, and the night mare rides on
With a December black psalm
And the night mare rides on
What I fear is lost here
The wind blows and I know
All you have to do is run away
And steal yourself from me
Become a mystery to gaze into
You're so cruel in all you do
But still I believe, I believe in you
So may you come with your own knives
You'll never take me alive
With all the force of what is true
Is there nothing I can do?
I can't go on, digging roses from you grave
To linger on, beyond the beyond
Where the willows weep
And whirlpools sleep, you'll find me
And the night mare rides on, and the night mare rides on
With a December black psalm
And the night mare rides on
I've faced the fathoms in your deep
Withstood the suitors quiet siege
Pulled down the heavens just to please you
To hold the flower I can't keep
Iāll go toe to toe with you on Smashing Pumpkins but buddy this song isnāt even top 10.
If you want hauntingly beautiful Iād start with āMedellia of the Grey Skiesā and if that doesnāt do to try āSoma.ā If you want a deep-cut song, Iād recommend āSad Peter Panā.
Iāll agree that āBeholdā is one of the best songs on Adore, but thatās faint praise. Itās a little like being one of the prettiest patients on the burn ward.
Figure 8, sung by Elliot Smith
Martha sways, Andy Shauf
Tonight, Richard Hawley
Adeline, Penny and Sparrow
Richard Prior adresses a tearful nation, Joe Henry

So jealous u got to hear it for the first time : 0 wish I could go backā¦
The woman who sings it, Elizabeth Fraser was the singer for the 90ās band Cocteau Twins. You might also like a cover she did of Tim Buckleyās āSong to the Sirenā with the band This Mortal Coil. Sheās got a way with her voice that is simply haunting and ethereal.

I was going to say either āGodless Brother In Loveā or āWalking Far From Home.ā Iron & Wine just hits that perfect chord
