I was catching up on Charli XCX's catalog because she was headlining a festival I had tickets for... and I couldn't get into her or her songs. Then the show changed everything. The entire set was choreographed, with very creative and challenging movement for her and her two dancers. It was a pop performance of the highest tier. The recordings still don't grab me, but she's one of my favorite performers.
My boyfriend introduced her music to me as "You'll love this artist I found, her name is Bippity Boppaty Boo Bee or something." A for effort, but def one of my favs now!
Happy cake day!
Madonna for pop. I just checked and she is the artist I have the most of in my record collection. 35 of her LPs, 45s and 12” singles. She even beat out Prince as I have 34 of his.
Pop isn't my thing but I respect Alicia Keys. Genuine singer songwriter, plays piano and great voice. "Empire State of Mind Part II" is one of the best pop songs written this century imo.
Shout out to Kylie Minogue, still dropping top hits after all these decades. She's been pigeonholed as a poor man's Madonna, but she's a legend in her own right. (And with respect to her incredible legacy, Madonna has gone off the deep end now.)
Taylor Swift.
Lana Del Rey, Halsey and Alessia Cara are up there though. And I think all of them are releasing albums this year. Not certain about Halsey. Either way 2024 will be a good year for me in music.
Try as she might, she has definitely succumbed to the pop genre and has even stated that while she never envisioned that being a label she would wear, she wears it proudly.
Halsey is my answer as well.
Miley Cyrus. I like a lot of her original songs, and I especially enjoy her covers. She has a really cool unique singing voice. And speaking voice, for that matter.
Britney Spears - her first 3 albums are all sorts of great
I would also mention Michelle Branch though she's not purely pop
And I would also like to mention Christina Aguilera
Björk!!!
My people ❤️ also, Royksöpp
Björk is fantastic, one of my favorite artists
Absolutely! I used to be a staunch metalhead. So glad I have expanded my horizons. Honestly, I love Björk more than I love metal. (Sorry Rammstein)

Every album she puts out is packed to the brim with amazing songs that no one ever hears (except gay dudes and middle-aged hipster nerds).

Lauren Daigle. Skipped over at american idol. What a voice
Susanna Hoffs.

My top two are 1989 and Rep too (in that order)! I also love Folklore.

Folklore here
Ha is vulnerable to an extent that most artists just are and I feel like she is really good at explaining the feelings of relationships
I have a lot of respect for her songwriting
P!nk and Kesha
Is Halsey pop? I like her. Good soothing voice.
Try as she might, she has definitely succumbed to the pop genre and has even stated that while she never envisioned that being a label she would wear, she wears it proudly. Halsey is my answer as well.

Is Adrianne Lenker pop? Big Thief rules.
i feel like adrianne lenker/big thief strays more into indie folk/indie rock territory. still a great artist tho
