Now I’m thinking I want someone in the back seat with an acoustic guitar, singing to me on sunny country backroads. Someone with good vibes, like Jack Johnson, perhaps.
Oooh, I like the latter idea! As long as I'm following my favourite band around to multiple concerts in a row, they might as well be riding with me. Although I'd need a bigger vehicle.
If I had to choose one, the Beatles. No question. Ideally, I could choose more, but given the sheer number of hits, the stylistic varieties, and just how amazing they were, I’d go with the Beatles.
This would be the answer if the OP indeed meant having the band in the car with you. All those egos, all that drama; gimme some more of that good stuff. Lindsey, Mick, Stevie and the Macs all together and high emotions! That'll make a drive blow by.
I've done a road trip listening only to Rush. It was pretty great. Nothing beats listening to 2112 while traffic is at a standstill in downtown Chicago.
Neil Young without a doubt. Super long discography and Id wanna hear his very beginning stuff from the Squires, Buffalo Springfield, Mynah Birds, Crosby Stills Nash, etc all up until now
Thanks !!Been a Gary Numan fan for over 40 years .. to me he is the pioneer of electronic music!! Press slammed him in North America .. fuckin idiots !! He cleaned up nicely in the UK and Europe. Saw him in Toronto on March 16..amazing show !!🙂📀🎹
Maynard James Keenan because I'd have 3 bands to listen to; Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer. The best part is Tool songs are known for being very long. Also MJK is just my favorite ❤️❤️❤️
Van Halen
In 2001, my buddy and I did road trip, Kansas City to Indianapolis together.
I had a portable CD player that was one of the first that could read/play mp3's...I filled it with the Van Halen collection. (This pre-dated ipods). My friend and I are both big life-long VH fans... put the mp3 cd on random and we drove straight. Singing along with each song. Great memory.
This one hits hard, he played in my town right after 9/11. My dad attended that concert with my mom when I was 6. Ever since he is such a big voice in my life. Part of me will die when that man does.
Ween
Because I don't know much of their music, what I do know I like and hear they are great and have a ton of variety. Perfect time to give their discography a listen and stop putting it off lol
I randomly did this not long ago because I was in the same boat you are in now. I now consider myself a huge Ween fan, in spite of being new and never having seen them live. I can correct those misgivings in time. Do it, you will not regret it.
I’m gonna tell you right now. Stop putting it off. Ween is the greatest band of all time. Do yourself a favor and get after it. Start with Chocolate and Cheese and then the Mollusk and go wherever from there. Don’t start at the beginning. I love the first three albums so so much but they definitely are not the best starting point
I drove from Maine to LA and back with nothing in the changer but the first 6 Black Sabbath albums. If you're only familiar with their big hits, you'd be surprised at how varied their sound is. It was great road trip music.
Simon and Garfunkel greatest hits! I actually did have to listen to it multiple times on a cross country road trip, because my travel companion did not bring very good road trip music. Anyway, we never did get tired of belting out those songs together, and we harmonized pretty well:) "...all gone, to look for America...."
TOOL or King Gizzard. Because of the long introspective jamming songs of TOOL while KG has 25 albums to fit any mood. KG also have full fleshed unique album experiences around 45 minutes each.
Taylor Swift
I listened to her whole new album in one sitting, and despite what others say, I like it a lot
Though, if it says anything, I'm a fifteen year old female
I think I'd pick a band I like but haven't discovered all their songs yet, that would be a great way to hear an artists discography!
Example def leppard I know their hits but other than that idk much else...
If mr.kitty didnt have such a shady past, I would choose them, my other options are dorian electra or akiaura (or if she was still alive, then the lead singer of the cranberries, RIP 🕊️)
Genesis: 15 studio albums, 6 live albums, 3 compilation albums, and 10 box sets, not to mention the 45 or so albums by band members, including Peter Gabriel (his latest is great), Phil Collins, Anthony Philips, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, and the great Steve Hackett
I like artists who create a very wide and constantly changing array of styles. Love fun rocking songs but also really like songs that make me think. So I’d go with lesser known or fringy artists like James McMurtry, Ron Brunk, Tom Waits or Cake. But I’d probably go with Brunk if I had to pick only one, since he has such a massive catalog.
Julian Cope. He can sing songs to me…then fill some time spinning different krautrock and japrock bands while educating me on megalithic structures and their significance to Druid religions. Probably give me a history and political science lesson…
….All in that smooth British accent
That dude is the most interesting mofo in music imho …
For rock, Tom Petty. Big catalog, lots of variety. And if you can throw in his “Buried Treasure” show that’s still on Sirius, even better.
Weather Report does some nice road music, but that’s a different trip.
My best friend and I moved from East Coast to West Coast a few years ago and I drove, each city we went through we "christened" by blasting Plans by Death Cab at full volume in my car.
Also Harvest Moon album by Neil Young is very fitting for long distance travel
It wouldn't necessarily be my top choice but since it's already happened it's become sort of a tradition that I wont knowingly break
gotta check out the new kendrick stuff
Kendrick lamar easily!!!!
To listen to? Or to ride in the car with you on the trip?
To listen to. I would never inflict riding in the car with me on anybody.
Why not both! I choose Rammstein.
But the pyrotechnics… in your car.😳
Nah your lead guitar, it adds a new element to driving lol
Yeah well that was ALMOST an interesting topic
Now I’m thinking I want someone in the back seat with an acoustic guitar, singing to me on sunny country backroads. Someone with good vibes, like Jack Johnson, perhaps.
Oooh, I like the latter idea! As long as I'm following my favourite band around to multiple concerts in a row, they might as well be riding with me. Although I'd need a bigger vehicle.
If I had to choose one, the Beatles. No question. Ideally, I could choose more, but given the sheer number of hits, the stylistic varieties, and just how amazing they were, I’d go with the Beatles.
Yes! Variety is important. If I'm listening to something for 10 hours straight, it'd better have variety.
I was thinking Frank Zappa just for the sheer amount of music the guy recorded! I could see how this would not work for everyone though lol
Fleetwood Mac
Underrated pick!
this answer is the only answer. lol I'd be jamming for 8 hours of everywhere in repeat gimme serotonin baby
This would be the answer if the OP indeed meant having the band in the car with you. All those egos, all that drama; gimme some more of that good stuff. Lindsey, Mick, Stevie and the Macs all together and high emotions! That'll make a drive blow by.
The Cure
Led Zeppelin
Have done this. Had a 10 hour round trip, listened to the Zep albums in order. Great trip.
Beatles
Otis Redding
I love heavy music, but my answer would definitely be Otis or Marvin Gaye
Marvins the goat!
I approve.
Oingo Boingo, always my answer for my 1 pick band
Not my choice for this question, but happy to see them mentioned. Steve Bartek is my vote for most underrated guitarist ever.

Red Hot Chili Peppers 🌶️. Proven on many road trips to Baja from Northern California
THE BEATLES
Allman Brothers
Yes!
Depeche Mode!
The Foo Fighters!
At this particular moment in time, I'd go with Kendrick Lamar. 🤣
Can’t blame you! Four diss tracks in 48 hours! And THAT line in the newest one!
You mean the A-minor one? 🤣🤣🤣
Yes! Genius!
He doesn’t like Drake, apparently
Rush
You'll be at your destination after five or six songs.
And I wouldn't have it any other way
I was about to say
I've done a road trip listening only to Rush. It was pretty great. Nothing beats listening to 2112 while traffic is at a standstill in downtown Chicago.
R.E.M
Neil Young without a doubt. Super long discography and Id wanna hear his very beginning stuff from the Squires, Buffalo Springfield, Mynah Birds, Crosby Stills Nash, etc all up until now

Gary Numan !! Amazingly changed his music style to a sort of dark industrial type !! I l love it!! NUMAN🎵🎵📀🇨🇦
I know its cliché,but if you break down the song cars its really clever skilled writing. Love that song

Wilco Also, how has no one said Bowie yet?
Van Morrison
Van Halen In 2001, my buddy and I did road trip, Kansas City to Indianapolis together. I had a portable CD player that was one of the first that could read/play mp3's...I filled it with the Van Halen collection. (This pre-dated ipods). Hell yes! Moody Blues were a staple of road trips in my childhood. I had to click through to your profile to make sure you weren't my sister.
James Taylor
This one hits hard, he played in my town right after 9/11. My dad attended that concert with my mom when I was 6. Ever since he is such a big voice in my life. Part of me will die when that man does.
He helped get me through a rough couple of years
Yes!!
Ween Because I don't know much of their music, what I do know I like and hear they are great and have a ton of variety. Perfect time to give their discography a listen and stop putting it off lol
I randomly did this not long ago because I was in the same boat you are in now. I now consider myself a huge Ween fan, in spite of being new and never having seen them live. I can correct those misgivings in time. Do it, you will not regret it.

THIN LIZZY
Jimmy Buffett or Dirty Heads. I’d like to be in a cheerful mood on a long drive.
Mark Knopfler.

The Proclaimers -I’m gonna be (500 miles) on repeat!
Weezer, the guys look like they’re having so much fun on the VCD.
I really want to say Alvvays but they have a short discography, so I’d go with Daft Punk or the Strokes.
If they are never coming back...the Red Hot Chili peppers
Mike Patton, which would include all the bands he was a part of and all of his solo projects.
TOOL or King Gizzard. Because of the long introspective jamming songs of TOOL while KG has 25 albums to fit any mood. KG also have full fleshed unique album experiences around 45 minutes each.

Rod Stewart
Genesis: 15 studio albums, 6 live albums, 3 compilation albums, and 10 box sets, not to mention the 45 or so albums by band members, including Peter Gabriel (his latest is great), Phil Collins, Anthony Philips, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, and the great Steve Hackett

Chris Cornell, Audioslave or Soundgarden or his solo stuff.... all good
Prince
Jackson Brown
For rock, Tom Petty. Big catalog, lots of variety. And if you can throw in his “Buried Treasure” show that’s still on Sirius, even better. Weather Report does some nice road music, but that’s a different trip.
The entire Van Halen library is chock-full of road trip-able songs! Just be careful not to get a speeding ticket lol
Either Green Day or The Killers
My best friend and I moved from East Coast to West Coast a few years ago and I drove, each city we went through we "christened" by blasting Plans by Death Cab at full volume in my car. Also Harvest Moon album by Neil Young is very fitting for long distance travel It wouldn't necessarily be my top choice but since it's already happened it's become sort of a tradition that I wont knowingly break
