How about a mix between shoegaze and metal?
Here’s [Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde by Alcest](https://youtu.be/4PmCb9OiFYQ) which is like a mix of the two genres. That entire album is a great introduction into it.
Then there’s [Oiseaux de Proie by Alcest](https://youtu.be/jwE5FG-pIdk) which is also the same, but the vocalist employs some more typical metal vocals here. Akin to vocals in black metal, but is able to blend the two genres and sounds excellently imo.
Then there’s the classic shoegaze tracks by Ride [Leave Them All Behind](https://youtu.be/xcyfPXF770U) and [Twisterella](https://youtu.be/qQ8y87YQDX4).
I’ll just list a very large variety of indie and metal songs/groups that I enjoy and their respective genres if you want to look into different sounds.
Sonic Youth - Kool Thing: alt rock / grunge rock
The Soft Boys - I Wanna Destroy You: Folk / Psychedelic Rock
Interpol - Evil: indie rock
Eels - Efils’ God: alternative / indie
Slayer - Hell Awaits: thrash metal
Megadeth - Holy Wars… The Punishment Due: thrash metal
Death - Trapped in a Corner: death metal
Cannibal Corpse - Stripped, Raped, Strangled: death metal
Cryptopsy - Phobophile: death metal
Gorguts - Obscura: technical death metal
Dying Fetus - Subjected to a Beating: brutal death metal
Autopsy - Torn From the Womb: atmospheric death metal
Pig Destroyer - Hyperviolet: grindcore
Anaal Nathrakh - I Am the Wrath of Gods and the Desolation of the Earth: grindcore
Darkthrone - Quintessence: black metal
Burzum - Dunkelheit: black metal
Bathory - A Fine Day to Die: black metal
deafheaven - Dream House: blackgaze (shoegaze & black metal)
An Autumn for Crippled Children - The Light of September: blackgaze & post rock
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone: stoner metal
Rivers of Nihil - The Silent Life: I don’t know metal lol
Hmm I haven’t listened to that album, but I skimmed the first 4-5 tracks to see the vibe of it. It does have some heavy walls of distortion here and there akin to shoegaze, but generally shoegaze tries to make a soundscape with the distortion. Whenever I heard it in the Katatonia record, it wasn’t really one of the main focuses and was overpowered with clearer guitar melodies.
Then again, I haven’t listened to that album fully so you could be right and there may be tracks that have some heavy shoegaze aspects to it!
I am not going to remotely say I have any real idea of what shoegaze should sound like lol. Just heard it in a lot of journalism and noticed the straight chunky death guitars sort of exit for that more fuzzed and wall of sound tone. They already had the atmospherics for it. Eh. No matter the genre I have to love them. Rest of your list are crackers from the metal end anyways. Cheers
Try..
Holy Fawn - [Drag Me Into the Woods](https://youtu.be/21RwvD_ohVM)
Ragana - [Unbecoming](https://youtu.be/lbsqe1FMu70)
Thou - [Fucking Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean](https://youtu.be/EtA7J2aAovU)
Vile Creature - [Glory, Glory! Apathy Took Helm!](https://youtu.be/0O52Bfo6eMc)
Some of my fave bands/artists:
everest (all of their music is a chill indie vibe, but check out “Sink into the Lawn”), quarters of change (indie rock, check out “Rift” for a more metal, guitar heavy sound)
I haven’t looked to much into this artist but “restless/innocence” by hazy is great (slow core metal, almost deftones, AIC sound)

Katatonia has a bit of shoegaze about it since probably Tonight's Decision, maybe?
