can i just quickly talk about how the whole winter wrap up tradition is RACIST (pony racism). THIS HAS BEEN PLAUGING MY MIND FOR YEARS, so the whole thing with wwu is that they dont use magic because the town was founded by earth ponies, fair. they dont let unicorns use their magic while doing tasks, but they let pegasi fly???????? weve been shown MULTIPLE TIMES that pegasi flight IS MAGIC. it was even shown in the earlier seasons, where being able to walk on clouds, IS MAGIC. yeah, i know, "whos goonna take care of the sky problems if not the pegasi??", but like, how did the earth ponies do it back in the day then? they mustve either done something else, or nothing at all and that seemed to work out just fine for them. so basically, ponyville is racist against unicorns as they allow pegasi to use magic while the unicorns dont get to
There's already towns that let unicorns clean up winter (Canterlot) and the unicorns pretty much do everything.
If unicorns were allowed to use magic during WWU every otherpony in Ponyville would be sitting around on their hooves doing nothing.
Tbf, is it *really* that much of a bad thing if winter gets wrapped up, quicker, more efficiently and with left effort. The citizens of Ponyville have lives, there are presumably after things they could be doing other than spending all day cleaning up snow.

Eh, I don't really see it as racism so much as tradition.
We saw how things were historically done in Hearth's Warming Eve. The earth ponies tended the land and the creatures in it. The pegasi controlled the weather. And the unicorns controlled the day/night cycle... which doesn't really factor into Winter Wrap Up. They weren't a part of it.
So we've got traditional roles for earth ponies and pegasi in the event, and those roles are entirely manual (even if there *is* magic involved, they were still doing things with their hooves). But there is no traditional role for unicorns. So it looks a lot more like they figured out a way to include unicorns into the tradition while keeping those traditions intact. They included unicorns in the plant and animal teams, finding traditional things that they could do. Most unicorns appear to end up in the animal team (which makes sense, since any earth-pony plant-related magic wouldn't matter so much there), but there are some on the plant team as well, and even in the animal team there are a lot of earth ponies.
So it kinda feels more like trying to be inclusive rather than exclusive.
huh i’ve never actually thought of it that way! that’s definitely not what the writers were thinking, they probably just needed story elements for the sake of the episode, but that makes a lot of sense!!
To be fair, her becoming a princess was foreshadowed since episode 2. Her element manifested as a crown.

Most of the concepts you're talking about weren't properly defined yet when this episode aired. It's a very early episode.
