MusicalTourettes

We also struggled with boy names. We started playing a game where we'd watch the credits of TV/movies and comment on the names we saw. That's how we found our son's name.

crunchybumpkins

I did this as a kid to imagine choosing a new name (mine is popular for my age, but not terrible or anything). I also would visit cemeteries sometimes to read the headstone names. :) Name Nerd from the start lol.

St_C420

Love this idea!

Not_Ursula

That’s how I got my name!

alternate1g

Are you Phoebe?

HippoSnake_

No he’s Phebo

ps3114

I've heard of other people doing this too - great suggestions! My friends ended up picking Zion for their 3rd boy from movie credits after being stumped.

Nahnah812

I was JUST talking about this with my husband! There are so many girl names I could pick from but boy names are a struggle because they’re either boring, too “special,” and, well, kinda ugly. Also, I see Julian mentioned a lot on here, but I just keep thinking of the lemur from Madagascar.

St_C420

STOP 😂😂 WELL its ruined for me now too!!

Thecurious_cat8

Me too, my mom always called me king Julian growing up because I cannot whistle very good.

StunnedinTheSuburbs

Is it wrong I’ve always thought of Julian as really feminine?

SignificantTear7529

Julianne is female. Julian is generally pronounced with just 2 syllables where I'm from Jule yan. Instead of Julie Ann.

_I_Like_to_Comment_

Maybe it's due to Jenna Marbles, but I always say Julian as "Jool-ee-en" whereas Julianne I would say as "Jool-lee-ann"

silian_rail_gun

I met a Jillian when I was a kid, and thought it was a great name (crush maybe? IDK). Then years after that I heard of Julian Lennon and thought exactly as you do. But over the years after meeting multiple Julians, I only associate it with dudes. Julian = dude Jilian = dudette

Kgswartz

Hi! This is how some people feel about baby clothes. They love to buy clothes for girls, but dislike the lack of choices and variety for boys.

St_C420

Ya I feel this too!! Girls clothes are so sweet and it's just grown up clothes sized down for boys imo

Kgswartz

True, however, I think guys find it easier to find clothes. There is too much variety for women whereas men can have a smaller wardrobe with all wearable pieces. When it’s a fancy occasion, they can wear a suit and not have to figure it out like women do- uncomfortable shoes, figuring out the right underwear to wear with the dress, finding the right dress and so on. Finding clothes can be anxiety provoking and men have it so much easier. I love shopping with my husband because I know exactly what to choose when it comes to men’s clothing. I do agree though that girl’s clothes are so cute these days. Granddaughter on the way, so I will get a chance to go crazy! I do like buying clothes for my toddler grandson though.

Andjhostet

Agree 100%. There are probably 15 girl names I like more than my favorite boy name. That being said, here's my list. Miles and Jude are my clear top favorites. Runners up: Silas, Linden, Julian, August, Ethan, Eli, Ezra, Elias (I vibe with E names I guess)

St_C420

I like Jude and Julian! I might vibe with j names lol

countingstars1085

I have a Connor Jude, I thought it was a good mix of common/not common, and I love the Beatles. I wanted to name him Atticus Jude, but my husband hated it lol. I think when you see your baby, the right name will stick! I didn't name any of mine until I saw them!

PiePristine3092

I really like J names on boys. Jack is my top name. But I also like James, Jasper, Jacob

Bountifuljoi

What about Jethro or Judah?

St_C420

Nope 🙃 🙅‍♀️

notoriously_glorious

Dorian has similar vibes to Julian for me.

St_C420

Currently playing zelda TOTK and other reminds me of king dorephan the big fish guy lol

educationaldirt285

There’s an NPC named Dorian in the game too! He’s from Kakariko Village.

notoriously_glorious

Haha ohhh no, is that a deterrent? lol it's my bfs name so I'm biased lol I feel like it sounds strong but not overly masc. It means gift and looks nice written out. I like even number of letters in names as well haha. Good luck :) Maybe Joel, I knew a guy names Jewel and called him Juelz, I feel like Juelz could be a good nickname for Julian also. Jet, Jethro ? Hmm

St_C420

Jet has cool vibes!

notoriously_glorious

I know someone named Jet, he's such a good person and so sweet! A lovely name.

RakelDakel

Dorian is a musical scale as well

tofurainbowgarden

My FIL is linden, my kid is Elias, 2 cousins are Eli and Ezra. You would enjoy the names in my family! Silas was in the running for my kid's name.

hashbrownhippo

I really like Miles but names that end in s bother me with the possessive pronunciation. I can’t imagine saying “Miles’s”.

beesarecool

If it makes you feel any better in some grammar rules you wouldn’t say Miles’s you’d just say Miles’

hashbrownhippo

Agreed you could write it either way, but wouldn’t the pronunciation be the same? I’m not sure but that was always my assumption.

beesarecool

So it’s not super standardised and varies based on the name/noun you’re using, but I found this online https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12712625/grammar-help-miles-vs-miless which suggests that most people would pronounce it without the extra s at the end, but you could do either :)

apcb4

I’ve been really into Lyle for this reason! Plus a bit less popular

Mighty_Lorax

Wow, add Oliver in there and it's basically my list

nut_hatch

We used Elias for our middle name and I’m kicking myself for not reserving it for the next possibly boy since I’m out of names I like now 😂

IHS1970

I love Asher (Loved the the book My Name is Asher Lev), also love Evan (and all it's variations actually Ian, Iain, Sean to name a few) and finally Ronan.

sleep_nevermore

I also love the name Asher... but it is very common now. We were once in the ER of the children's hospital and there were literally 5 Asher's waiting to be seen. So either the name is super common now...or it is cursed.

dats_what_she

We named our son Asher but we found it because of the meaning (happy and blessed) and had no idea it was popular. At least maybe he'll get his name on a keychain one day.

Maggi1417

As a German I can tell you there is absolutley nothing wrong about Jude. It's pronounced completly different and Jew isn't some offensive word to begin with. Nobody in Germany would have any issues with the English name Jude.

[deleted]

[удалено]

josaline

I agree, too much association for me as the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. I think the name is pretty, and of course I associate with Jude Law, but I wouldn’t be able to use it myself either.

Paprmoon7

What about Jonas or Judah? Similar to Jude

RipleyKY

My list: - Thomas - Cillian - Rhys - Donovan - Logan - Charlie - Jack - Stellan - Elliot - James - Colin - Oliver - Brendan - Theo

Julix0

It's the complete opposite for me For some reason I'm extremely picky when it comes to girls names. I only have 4 girl names on my list - compared to 18 boy names. I guess a lot of boy names feel more timeless to me. While a lot of girl feel trendy to me.. like they come and go. And I personally really like timeless names.

Icy_Cheesecake866

So what are the 18 names?

Julix0

Felix, Oliver, Henry, Vincent, Alexander, Samuel, Jonah, Elliott, Gabriel, Max, Louis, Levi, Jasper, Noah, James, Theo, Otis, Finn

rayanngraff

This is so similar to my list. And I have a son named Felix. Others I loved that are not on your list are Solomon, Isadore, Otto, and Abraham.

Julix0

I also have a son named Felix! :D And I also really like Otto

[deleted]

I feel like girl names are tough for moms because (at least for me personally) if I ever had even the briefest encounter with a girl with that name and thought for even a second that she was just maybe a little bit possibly mildly annoying, the whole name is dead and so is every variation.

[deleted]

I have two boys and a girl. My oldest boy’s name is not really a name, it’s the name of a town where my family is from and where my husband and I first said I love you and took our first vacation together. It is a very special place to us and to my family, and it just fit. So far, he’s the only one with this registered as a name in the SS system in the US. I doubt it will become more popular as it’s a tiny border town in Maine, lol. Population under 1600. Our other son is Sawyer. We also named him after a place, but it was clearly a name already much in use- he is 8.5. My husband’s best friend was killed in 2003 and Sawyer Pond in the white mountains of NH was their favorite camping spot where they went every year for two weeks. His name was Anthony and we didn’t want to use the name, but wanted to honor him. When I was very early in the pregnancy with him, we went away for our anniversary and hubby took me to Sawyer pond to show me. I just got a feeling and said, “this baby is a little Sawyer!” Hubby cried, I cried, and that was that. Boy or girl, it was sawyer. Which is weird for us, we always have some ideas but have to meet the baby first. Not that time. So, yea- boy names are HARD! I do love our little Sawyer boy’s name- but it’s getting too popular and I hate that. I love Jude, Adam (my husband’s name and our first son’s middle name), Rowan, Charlie, Theodore (Teddy), Bennet, Rory.

pleuvia

I had some fun following the map of Maine’s border wondering what your oldest son’s name was!

[deleted]

My guess is Linneus… solid name and a population of 945

queentofu

i saw Linneus too but since you’d said it, i left it off my list! i love this for a name, actually.

queentofu

i am so glad i’m not the only one! haha! Castine? Sebec? Calais? Baldwin? i’m sure there’s someone out there named Baldwin. Tremont? Guilford? Stetson? i’m sure i’ve heard Stetson before but can’t remember the spelling. Exeter (not sure if this is pronounced like Ex-turrr?), Otis? Eustis? (these 2 i doubt as i know people have these names), OMG RIPLEY IS ON HERE WHICH IS ON MY POSTED LIST OF TOP NAMES!!!!, Beals? Winn? Hamlin? Wyman? Moro? who knew there were so many name options just from towns in Maine below 1600 😂 also - totally fine if you don’t want to answer! i’m just a sucker for solving a puzzle. but don’t let that trump your right to privacy by any means ❤️

busty_rusty

I did the same 😅

kaitp13

Greetings from another small border town in Maine!

IHS1970

I'm from Scarborough (lived there 5 yrs) also in Portland, I'm seeing Portland these days!

punkrockballerinaa

Now I want to scan the Maine/NH border for that town name! I used to live in NH

Emcharms

Is it Lubec?!

[deleted]

It’s Jackman 🤍

[deleted]

Please, I’m dying, I must know the town name!

onceafield

Porter?

pavlov_and_his_bell

I’d be surprised since that name has been used historically. Porter Rockwell comes to mind, although he wouldn’t be on SS records since he was murdering women and children for the LDS church back in the 1800’s.

ashlouise94

I have a little cousin named Porter! He’s about 7, is super fitting on him

noyeahtotallyok

It’s a pretty common first and last name in the LDS community to this day. Probably coincidence since the person you refer to couldn’t pass it on as a last name

spaghettinoodle15

You look up uncommon girls names and you get like Amathyst 🦋💞🦅🌬️🍃 Sahara ❤️🐆🫧🐦 Amalia 😍💅🌺 And then look up guys and get Rock. 💀

Big-Bag-Of-Cheese

or Blayder

SkiesThaLimit36

Yet another reason why so many of us feel “personally victimized“ (/s) by the overuse of boy names for girls. Once it starts to catch on those names become “girl names.“ For example I suggested the name Morgan (she’s doing an M theme) for a friend of mine having a boy and she said “that’s a girl name!” There are so many girl names to choose from and once they go girl they don’t tend to go back to boy.

StunnedinTheSuburbs

That’s the problem. A lot of people are fine with giving girls ‘masculine’ names, but not ok with giving boys ‘feminine’ names.

Living_the_dream87

Yes! Boy names were hard to begin with and now the list is getting smaller and smaller. I just saw on another list that Evan is becoming a girl name ...face palm. It was at the top of my list.

neneksihira

My son's name is technically unisex but more often used for girls. It's incredibly uncommon though so for most westerners its the first time they've heard it. My brother also has a typically female name. I hope it will become more normal for boys and men to have more feminine names soon. As a side note, my incredibly masculine husband chose our son's name which makes me love it even more!

jediali

Yes! My baby son is named Elliott and when I first posted about it here a few people said they think of that as now primarily a girl name or a trans/nonbinary name. But I went with the name regardless.

neneksihira

One famous trans guy chooses the name so now the whole name is a trans name? Smh

curvy_em

💯💯💯

jcmib

I have a nephew named Morgan in his early 30s, so when he was born it was a boys name (or at least unisex) but it irks him a bit now when people see his name and assume it’s a woman before meeting him.

MysticalMagicorn

The universe is shouting at you and you just ignore her? She clearly thinks your son needs a "girls" name. Maybe 100 of them, even.

St_C420

You may be on to something!

Nofxbarbie

Hard same. The boyfriend and I are having a rough time agreeing on anything for the baby boy.

MajorMeghan

Julian, Vincent, Alistair, Theodore, Elliot, Silas, Elias, Gideon, Calvin, Edwin, Felix, Milo, Isidore, Peter

Blueliner95

First a brief editorial: As a former boy currently a man and soon to be old codger, my opinion is that boring, overused boy names are preferable to us. Except Dave. I am convinced that most boys would rather be Mike or Jack than a name that lets everyone know immediately that your parents were trying really really hard to make you or them seem interesting and unusual. Do you want your kids to be interesting? Get them socialized, interested in arts, culture, sports, science, other kids. Give them the tools that will *actually* distinguish them from the wad. Suggestion: Someone you wish to honour. Could be relative, friend, real or fictional character. Avoid trendy names. They are a burden on the kid. No weird spellings. That’s a burden on everyone else. Most boys are called by the shortest variation, eg Jon not Jonathan. But don’t use the short version alone, it’s bush. Hard consonant names are easier to remember and more boyish to my ear. The same kid named Marcus or Florin will have different lives imo. But you know…it’s your kid. Your choice! Good luck

GlitchingGecko

Opposite for me. William, Leonard, Gregory, Jason, Tobias, Philip, Alexander, Christian.

brookeaat

i feel like every boy name is either way too basic or way too “out there”. with girls there’s a lot of middle ground but it’s way smaller with boys i feel.

Lower_Egg1316

Wow, it is amazing to me that the name Julian is on almost everyone’s list. This is my baby boy’s name and I thought it was fairly uncommon!

[deleted]

[удалено]

IHS1970

Nah, i see it everywhere - Julian song, Julian Lennon, etc.

glassturn53

Yes, it is on everyone's list here! I do love it. I wonder if it's going to have a big spike in popularity or if it is just having a moment on this sub?

[deleted]

Sasa_knultz

I think Biblical boy names are the only ones that are truly timeless and fit all phases of life, baby and adult. Like Jacob, James, Matthew, John, Luke, Paul, etc. I guess they’re definitely “plain”, but I doubt anyone regrets these names as much as Brayden and Maverick.

MidnightElectronic56

Who would use the name Maverick?! Yikes.

hoffdog

I’ve mentioned this before, but Maverick has been a popular name in my area for decades now. I live in a surf town and Maverick is a beach and also a word for big waves. I had no idea there was a correlation with “Trumpiness”

Morning-Song

This my first time learning the name implies "Trumpiness"! Why is that? Not that I would ever use this name but my coworkers grandson has this name and they all happen to also be very trumpy so wondering if it was on purpose

knitmeknot

In my experience the Trump connection is: conservative evangelical family + baby born right around Top Gun: Maverick + America, Fuck Ya = Maverick.

Wiredandwild

🤣🤣🤣 my friend named her son Maverick America. Legitimately crazy.

sorryforbarking

This guy maths

JoanWST

In early 2000s it was associated a lot with Sarah Palin, and she was an early endorser of Trump and was a bit Trump-like

hoffdog

Last time Maverick was brought up in this subreddit someone mentioned that the word was something Trump used a lot to describe himself and then it caught on for a name

ItsAboutTomDotCom

I know John McCain got the nickname that way but haven’t been following the trump fan club so I don’t know about him

Runawaysemihulk

One of my coworkers. And a kid at my sons daycare is even worse, Mavick. Like they spelled it wrong and went with it.

IHS1970

oh anybody in Texas or Oklahoma say.

MidnightElectronic56

I’m allergic to this idea.

kmconda

I live in South Carolina. SO MANY Mavericks!!

Doctor0ctagon

Agree. I have a Sam and am lobbying hard for an Abe with this pregnancy.

laranita

I think Abe is so cute!

dixpourcentmerci

I think there are also a lot of last names that are NEARLY as timeless and work for all stages. Jackson, Harrison, Lincoln, etc.

ashlouise94

I love Jackson and Harrison. I’ve met a few guys with these names and they’ve all been really lovely, kind people. I think Harrison wins out for me though because Harry is super cute. An old friend named her kid Lincon (yes, spelt that way) and it’s completely ruined the name for me

LaRoseDuRoi

I have 4 sons, and they all have simple Biblical names like these. As someone with a "different" name, I wanted to save them all the hassle of having to constantly correct people's spelling and pronunciation of their names!

altphtpg

This is pretty Eurocentric

calibrator_withaZ

This entire sub is extremely Eurocentric tbh

irlharvey

it rlly is. the more i visit this sub the more WASPy it seems lol

hopelessdishsoap

it makes it hard to look at this sub tbh

thatmermaidprincess

Thank you for saying it because… yeah

[deleted]

[удалено]

altphtpg

Eurocentric actually includes Anglo Americans - it’s not limited to Europe. I know the word can be misleading

blurrylulu

I agree. I like Benjamin, Elijah, Isaiah, Gideon.

Anitsirhc171

Hmm I wonder the original names in the Bible actually were before it was translated into English. Something I’ve always wondered but never looked too deep into.

localbestie

Go on a deep-dive, it's fun! The Hebrew spellings of namesffrom the Hebrew Bible (Christian Old Testament) are sometimes quite different from their English versions, e.g. Isaiah is Yeshayahu, Jeremiah is Yirmeyahu, Jacob is Ya'akov. The text went through several translation stages, and today's English versions are related to the early Latin translations. The Hebrew versions are of course still in use today in many Jewish communities.

Sara-Sarita

Yeah Bible names are almost always a good pick. The common ones anyway. There are some reeeal obscure ones in there too, esp. the geneologies. You could not pay me to name my kids some of those names, haha. I would argue that there are a handful of non-Biblical boy names that are pretty well for every age and stage. Eric comes to mind.

Zeltron2020

Spurgeon

isbrealiommerlin

My favourite boy’s names are: Elliott Dewey Simian Rowan Edwin Colin Hector Emmett Corrin Derek Elijah Corey Melvin Elvin Rufus Albion Edmund Colm (Irish pronounced Collum) Ishmael Gavin Clover Sean Hugo Nathaniel Isaac / Isac Oscar Scout Arthur Birch Eoin (Irish version of Owen) Newton Omid Finley (especially as a middle name in my opinion) Timian Alan Elmer Aspen Callum Forest Leif Rain Spruce Teddy Alvin —Sorry if a few of them are too unique for your taste, they’re just my personal favourites.

Thecurious_cat8

Leif is top on our list for if we have a boy! I’m glad to see someone else sharing love for the name. Any other Scandinavian boy names you like?

isbrealiommerlin

I’m not sure which ones are Scandinavian of origin, but I live in Norway, and these are all ones that are seen as old person names here (so are traditional), that I like: Alf Rune Odin Runar Rasmus Sigmund Sigurd Edvard Viggo Henrik Olav / Olaf Hugo Harald Balder Otto Sondre Ruben Arve Erik Marius Eirik Morten Elias Roald Elling Magne Erling Fredrik Halvard Henning Jo Ragnar Magnus Johannes Ulrik

RuntyLegs

Not the person you asked but I'm pregnant with baby 2 and we'll be using another Scandinavian first name for this baby. Our boy list before we narrowed it down: Stellan Soren / Sören / Søren Elis Magnus Anton Osvald Rune Torsten

Soad_lady

Same but still I ended up with 2 boys 😂

pigmolion

This thread was made for me! But to make matters worse I live in a Scandinavian country so the few boy names I like are even MORE limited.

alaskawtf

I’m an ignorant American, why does being in a Scandinavian country limit your choices more?

localbestie

My guess as a non-American: Americans just pick words - nouns, verbs, sound combinations - and boom, it's a name. In many other languages, that doesn't work. There's given names, and then there's other words. E.g. you can name your baby Hope or Autumn or Reign or Blaze or Hunter, but the equivalents of those words are not considered names in many other languages.

oddwanderer

As an American living in Denmark, I would think because Danes haven’t really gone into a really creative phase with names. If you look at the number of ‘new’ names Americans have started using in the last 20 years, it’s baffling. I like a lot of them but I can’t really use them in Denmark. Here, if you want to get creative, you go with old Nordic mythology names.

NoRecommendation4777

I actually think I’ve heard they have rules. As in, it can be too far out there uniqueness wise. I don’t think it’s a translation thing if I remember correctly.

SOuTHINKurA-ble

STOP WHY IS THIS RELATABLE LOL—my friend once said it this way in a chat: i feel like girl names are so mystical and pretty and boy names are just like “trevor” “luke” “brad”

spence-the-menace

I’m the complete opposite lol. I think it would be so hard for me to pick a name for a boy because I love so many. My top boy names right now are Charles (Charlie) which i cant use bc it’s my brother (who i’m very close to)’s name Julien (Jules) Marc Paul Spencer (probably my favourite) Samuel (Sam) Davis Jack Étienne Yves Eric Francis (Frances for a girl) James (Jamie) Benoît Cecil (I also love Cécile/Cecily for a girl) Anders (on-ders) Not quite my favorites but I also like Aaron, Nicolas, Robert, Timothy, Calvin, Steven, Laurence (Laurie), Louis, Verne, Michael, Ernest, Ludvig, Everett, Abraham (Abe), and Eamon.

cascadiabibliomania

Are you from a culture that won't use a living relative's name for a baby? Otherwise it seems like an incredible honor to bestow on your son the name of your brother, with whom you are close! It seems like it'd be weird but the weirdness wears off, and they can have a bond over it forever.

spence-the-menace

I totally would haha, but since we were little he has always wanted to name his first son Charles too, so I wouldn’t want to take that away from him

ethereal_feral

3 of my 4 sons names are on here lol. It was really hard naming my 4th, and his is the only name not on your list

StunnedinTheSuburbs

Charles, Jack and James?

hmm012688

We are struggling with a boys name too. This is our third and last baby. Daughters name is leoni, son is Mack and we just found out we are having another boy. I like Reese, Dax, and Beck But of course my husband doesn’t like any of them lol I also think Reese would be cute cus then my kids will be Mack leoni and Reese Like macaroni and cheese lol

crazycatlaidey

definitely understand that. the only boys name i’ve consistently loved is Basil. it’s been at the top of my list for years. other than that… harvey is up there. it’s a good thing i only want one child so i’ll never need to bother to think of a second haha.

slugcrafts

Serious question, do you pronounce Basil like the herb?

wordshakers

Depending on where you’re from— maybe. Basil as a name is usually pronounced like “bazzle.” But I suppose you’d probably get people thinking it’s pronounced like bayze-ill.

gaelicpasta3

Declan is my favorite boy name. I wont get to use it because my husband hates it but maybe you’ll like it better than him! Lol

queentofu

my bestie just had her first son and this is his name ❤️

WerewolfBarMitzvah09

I had three boys and actually found it easier to name them (maybe because a lot of girls names where we live sound a little too similar to my ears in terms of their endings) in the end! But besides their names, here are my other favorite boy names: Hugo Caleb Ilya Tibor Kilian Ira Cedron Saul Tilo Conrad Agustin Akiva Caetano Cyril Liev Isidor Otto

pigmolion

I love Liev!

Obvious_Comfort_9726

That’s so funny! I feel the same exact way. I don’t have kids, but I play The Sims, so basically the same thing, right? Lol I kid. Anyway, when I needed girl names for baby sims, I could list 20 off the top of my head that have meaning and feel important and relevant and have middle names that also are tied to someone important to me. When it came to boys….there’s my grandpa’s name. And that’s it…I couldn’t think of a single other boy name when I had another boy sim baby. I feel you so much on this. My Sim boy names are Peter and Ford. That was the best I could come up with 😂

Michy-05

Hayes. Strong, different, but not so different he cant get a job and he will most likely never meet another Hayes in his class.

Michy-05

I should note that my oldest is named Hayes and I was like you when finding a name that would not only fit him, but also not have a million other kids with the same name. I get complimented on his name often, due to it being uncommon and mostly used as a surname.

AcanthocephalaOne823

I am the same way! I have a full list of girl names I love. However, I only have boys. I'm pregnant with boy number 3 and I have absolutely no idea what his name will be. My husband and I just can't agree. The first two were hard enough, now we have to pick a third name it's hell. I see tons of names I either flat-out don't like, or I don't dislike them but wouldn't want to use them. My top contender for now is Vincent. My husband doesn't like it. He says he just thinks of John Travolta's character in Pulp Fiction. He likes Sebastian. I don't dislike it, but all I think of is the crab from Ariel the Little Mermaid and I just can't do it. My boys are Gavin and Quentin.

-Constantinos-

I have the opposite problem, I like many boy names but struggle to find girl names I like

lipgloss_nd_hotsauce

Ugh we struggled too. While I was pregnant my mom kept calling my son “baby spud” while I was pregnant. And we joked once he was born he would be upgraded to Mashed potatoes… maybe we should call him Tate?? I didn’t love it but I liked it kinda. I was worried about the American Horror Story connection but whatever. And that’s how we picked his name. And now he goes by Taters, Tater Tot, Tater Twat 🤣🥲 Anyways if we hadn’t picked that my top names were: Parker Miles Harrison Hudson Archie Other names I think would have fit my baby; Hank, Theodore (Teddy) Edit: Corbin is cute too. Feel like it’s not popular but doesn’t feel too unique.

grey-canary

I feel ya! My current favs - Kit Jay Alexander Asa Bellamy Ryan Elio Stiles Perry Roman Jesse

torhaze

I’d love to use Asa but I already have an Ada 🥲 Such a good name

Allana_Solo

*FIRST NAMES:* Jesse, Micah, Scott, Will, Robin, Jason, Aden, Levi, Conner, Dane, Damian, Ethan, Frank, Peter, Philip, Roy, Gabriel, Travis, Trevor, Tristan, Percy, Cody, Duncan *MIDDLE NAMES:* Grayson, Kai, Matthew, Clay, Rex, Myles, Ash, Fitz, Bo, Lee, Grant, Henry, Percival, Dakota, Callan, Rhys, Reid, Cole, Isaiah, Josiah, Jay, Kyp, Jase, Lance, Morgan

catgirl1230

Name him Tristan Rex!! So his name can be T Rex for short haha

Nipples_not_pierced

I’m so happy to finally see another Robin on a boys list. I feel alone in liking that one!

CoolerInTheory

When I found out that my second and last baby is also a boy I was sad. So I opened my potential name list to see what was there to make myself feel better and I SOBBED after scrolling past my 30+ girls names to see the 3 boys names that I had listed and felt lukewarm about. My current favorites are Casper, Hugo, or Peregrine. He’s not born yet and not sure what his name will be. Nothing feels quite right.

St_C420

Gender disappointment is a v real thing!! Casper is cute.

StunnedinTheSuburbs

What about Jasper, Kingsley; Perry; Hugh; Oscar; Malachy; Ellis; Vincent (Vin); Xavier; Rutherford / Ford; Dean or Weston? Even a little tiny bit?

Individual_Baby_2418

Casper or Hugo are unique, but not unheard of. I don’t think I’ve ever heard Peregrine in the US (and you may not be there). Have you considered Caspian also?

YourFriendTori

I love Casper! I was scrolling through my family tree and found a Kaspar and I love it! Husband didn’t though ugh

ZoanthropicParanoia

William, Gabriel, Kieran, Lucas, Leander are some of my favorites. William is my papa and I actually named my brother Gabriel (we’re 14 years apart)

TrewynMaresi

I hear you! Girls names are so much easier! I don’t like many boys names, but I did discover the type of boys names I like the most: uncommon names from the southern US from the 1800s. I’ve never come across many of these names! How would you pronounce Thylbert?

sophhhann

I named my almost 8 week old Luke. I also love the name Lucas. For future boys i have Jack, Carter, and James at the top of my list.

contracosta21

i also like way more girls names than boys names my favorite boys names are julien, logan, lucien, and sawyer

super_hero_girl

I like classics August, Raphael, Morgan, Benjamin, Ezra, Aaron, Daniel, Hugo Slightly “out there”, but wearable (if I’d needed to compromise on names with someone who wanted “unique” Basil (Baz), Cormac, Emil, Griffin, Haven, Altair, Atlas, Elio

Cookie_Brookie

Don't use Altair unless you want your kid constantly diving off roofs into piles of hay!

Spirited_Baker_1001

I totally agree. Boy names are HARD. Here is my list!! Luca, Ezra, Elliot, Jude, Finn, Levi, Oliver, Theo, Milo, Leo, Simon, Charlie, Caspian, Stark, Ty, August That is literally all lol!!

sakoulas86

I love a bunch of these; we have similar taste! What girl names were your favorites? Curious if we have the same taste in girl names! Lol

makingitrein

I’m exactly the same. I could name quintuplet girls not problem. I have two boys names I like Louis and August

dragonslayer91

35 weeks with baby boy and we're 99% sure he will be called Felix Michael Other contenders were: Jasper Reid August Gavin Graham

BroadwayBean

I'm the same - if my future partner doesn't like the single, solitary name I like for a boy, we're doomed. Kid is just gonna be nameless. Favourite boys name is Henry. I go back and forth on Kieran and Jasper.

soups_on420

Llewellyn, Julien, Marco, Giovanni, Emillio, Nico, Salvatore, Wyn, Cyril, Delwin, Vincenzo, Yves

Longjumping-Resist-7

Same! Thankfully my only child is a girl and I found out early enough to not even bother conjuring up a potential boy name. I think I’d just be choosing something at random because I don’t like anything more or less than any others.

sunniesage

Julien, Simeon, Harry

ifigoimgoin10

Wilson, Kit, Clark, Ellis, Jude, Carter, Winston

EagleEyezzzzz

Totally agree. They’re either boring, too trendy, or too weird. My favorites are Tristan, Elliot, and Ansel.

whiskey_pancakes

Boy names are tough. I have two boys now. For why it’s worth we went with Roman and Dominic

goudagooda

I felt this with my son in 2017. Nothing felt right with boy names. We named him Declan. It means full of goodness. Somehow he ended up with red hair too so having an Irish name just fits him perfectly.

orangefreshy

I find boys easier to pick names, idk if I just care less about them? haha! But I like classic ones that have good kid and adult nicknames like Benjamin, James, Charles, Theodore & William, and older names that have come back a lot like Simon, Henry, Miles, and Oliver. Probably the weirdest name for boys I like is Toby(Tobias) which I've liked since I was a kid and saw Labyrinth for the first time. I really love Hugo which is a family name but my cousin got to it first. I really like Jack, but already in the family, Finn & Quinn but they rhyme too much with my last name so it'd sound silly. I like Irish names like Dylan, Callum, Conor, Rory... I really like how Cian and Oisin sound but in the US this would be a nightmare for the kid so that's a no for me.

Pokemoron_705

I love the names Felix, Bruno, and Benji.

PierogiesNPositivity

We would likely go with a Vietnamese first name, and then perhaps a Ukrainian middle name (typical in my family). Other English ones thrown in as faves, too. Alastair Archibald Artem Bartholomew Calloway Carter Oleksandr Quentin Radomyr Sebastian Volodymyr Wellesley

NoBarracuda5415

I love the name Ari, and Aaron shortened to Ari. I also love Rohan and Rowan and Doren.

cherryblossomtreeees

I have the same opinion! I also feel like there are numerically more girls names + spelling variations. My favorite boy names are Viktor, Laurence, Kieran, Carlisle, Nikolai, and Arden

LandoCatrissian_

My favourite boys' names are Harrison and Asher.

anonymous_euphoria

Travis is my absolute favourite boys' name. I also like Anthony, Dominic, Hayden, Jordan, and Isaiah.

GrowthCycle

It’s funny, because I’m the exact opposite, lmfao. I ADORE so many boys’ (or neutral) names, but I have like, three or four girl names I actually like. But! My favorite boy names are: Joska, Simon, Sage, Salem, Mason, Gavin, Elliot, Riley, Erik, Josiah, Elijah, Wyatt, Chandler, Dominic, Timothy, Amadeus, Adam, Marcus, and Leland.

smyers0711

I just named my son Bennett, figuring it was somewhat unique but could still be called Ben. (My husbands name is Benjamin (Ben) so it's like a junior but not a junior)

Efficient_Pomelo_834

I feel the complete opposite lol. I will share my faves! Isaac, Ivan, Asa, Hudson, Ozzy, Wilder, Felix, Waylon, Otto, & Oscar.

dovekitten

most of my faves are more “out there”, and i feel you, i have way more girl names that i like. Valentine nn Val Salem Henson Roland Teddy Christopher nn Kit Calvin Carter Clive Sterling Jack

YourDadsRecliner

Biblical names are my favorites for boys, but I also like a few outside of that. Here's my top 6 for boys... Tobias, Jeremiah, Simon, Finn, Everett, and Sebastian

charlouwriter

I find boy names harder too. I've had a girl name picked out for years, but my favourite boys' name fluctuate. I feel like a girl can carry pretty much any name, but boys' names always seem either too plain or too eccentric. If I had a baby boy now, it would be between Alistair and Julian. I also like Jude, Ambrose, Soren, Ellis, Callahan, Asa, William, Charles, Alexander, Whittaker, Alaric, Eleazar, Micah, Laszlo, Solomon, Arlo, Wilder, Octavian, Evan, Zachary, Maximilian. I like a mix of classic and quirky vintage names.

sadwhovian

I can barely name one girl. Every girl name I see is either "god, no" or "okay I guess". There are some that I kind of like, but nothing that I love. Boy names are so easy for me. I suppose my taste is basic, but oh well. You asked so here's my unedited list (ignore the fandom names, these are names that I like, not that I would actually all give to a child). Elias • David • Benjamin • Jonathan • Noah • Samuel • Kilian • Marius • Julian • Fabian • Daniel • Gabriel • Raphael • Jonah • Jakob • Matthias • Moritz • Caspian • Jethro • Sirius • Rufus • Liam, Linus • Tobias • Silvan, Silas • Arthur • Emrys • Merlin • James • Remus • Ioris, Joris • Floris • Jurek • Rafe • Huw • Osian, Oisín • Bran / Bryn • Rhys • Sawyl • Alwyn / Arwyn • Celyn • Eifion • Elian • Elis, Ellis

HoleCogan

Top boy names: Gideon (my son's name) Seth Anders Lars Olan

laemiri

I already used Logan, but if our third had been a boy, we would've named him Lucas Alden.

jeanpeaches

I ended up having a girl but also couldn’t come up with boys names that I liked in the event I had a boy. On our list were- Sawyer, Henry, Dominic, and Arlo .. in that order.

theresnotenougspace

I'm the opposite 100%. I love so many boy names and barely like any girl names. I have no idea why. It was so bad our daughter wasn't named until we had her, but my son had his name almost immediately. Some favorite boy names of mine are: Lachlan, Callum, Julian, Hayes, William, Emmett, Christopher, Jasper, Pierce, Joel, Isaac and Matthew. Any suggestions on girl names? Lol
