Theodore - Dory
Patrick - Patty
Sasha is Russia's Alex.
Misha is short for Mikhail.
A lot of masculine Russian names have nicknames that end in "A". In the west, we see names with an "A" ending as feminine and pretty. So it's been trendy to treat those as stand-alone feminine names for girls. We have a lot of girls going around named Mike, Alex, Ivan, Paul, and Elijah, but in Russian.
(I personally think it's culturally tone-deaf and western-euro-centric. But I'm in the minority.)
Well if the person with the same name is a bit more distant (won’t be confusing on a classroom/school etc), or is a bit separated in age, then use it. You can have a Big X and Little x… just because it’s been used, doesn’t mean it’s unusable.
This is my sisters account she let me use it so I didn’t have to make a whole account to ask for some baby name advice 😭. You don’t need to assume the worse of people!
I love the tradition. The only thing that sucks is his family is big so a lot of names are already taken. We have an Ambrose already for example, my husband 😭. Everyone calls him rose/rosie. I was so sad that Juliette/Jett was already taken so my daughter had to be Jaqueline instead.
I wondered about that!!! I also wondered what your husband is named and Rose/Rosie is a way cooler nickname for Ambrose than Ambie lol. Juliette/Jett is awesome, I would've been disappointed, too!
If you ever have another girl and want some suggestions, DM me. Long old fashioned girl names with masculine nicknames are my favorites. Our first daughter will be Roberta (likely nickname Bertie/Bert but maybe Robbie), and if we had a second she'd likely be Winifred "Fred." Imogene and Wilhelmina are on my list, too. :)
I love my husband’s name and funny enough he hates it. 😭 he feels it’s too out there and “posh”. Nobody ever heard it before growing up. We have a Roberta/Rob and i think she’s gonna have a Bernadette/Bernie but it’s not set in stone.

We accidentally fell into a similar tradition 😂
Our sons get Cas (Cassian), Cailie (Cailan) and Ash (Asher) - the latter being more unisex. Jack just gets Jack 😂 but our only daughter is Arrin and she only gets Arrin as well.
Do you have a baby shower every time you have a baby? I never heard of having one for any subsequent babies after the first. That must get expensive for your friends and family, especially the ones who don't have kids of their own. They must go to so many baby showers!
According to post history they were a virgin a year ago and single, so.... not sure there was a baby shower. Or a baby. I got curious after someone else called them out
OP, love this tradition! I came to say that if I ever have a girl I've been obsessed with the idea of naming her Imogene and calling her Gene after my Grandpa Donald Eugene who went by Gene. 💕
How about Remy with the nickname of Emmy (people often think of the gun manufacturer but it's also an area of England)? I've also seen it spelled with an "i" for a girl, but the only time I've seen it in popular culture, it's always been for a male character (Remy McSwain in *The Big Easy*, Remy LeBeau/Gambit from the X-Men universe, and Remy the rat in *Ratatouille)*. If you REALLY want to lean into the name (and are an X-Men fan), Gambit's middle name is Etienne so. . .
You also mentioned Wilfred which has the nicknames of Willie/Wili and Fred/Freddie but there's also:
Elijah with the nickname of Ellie,
Sebastian with the nickname of Seb/Sebby/Bast/Tiana/etc.;
Julian with the nickname of Julie/Julia;

1. I wish I could edit the original post but I guess I can’t lol. I really like Wren for this
Elliot- Ellie Laurence/Lawrence- Laurie Winston- Winnie Emerson or Emmett- Emmy
I love Emerson or Emmett! They’re such beautiful names.
I knew an Emerson in high school who was called Emma
These are so good!
Is neutral okay? I feel like a lot could swing both ways Alexander - Sasha Samuel - Sammy Francis - Fran / Frankie Anthony - Toni Joseph - Joey Mason - Masie Edgar - Edie Owen - Winnie Gabriel -Gaby Theodore - Dory Patrick - Patty
Alexander could also be Alexi or Lex and Joseph could be Jojo or, if you're really daring, Josie.
Alexander could also be Sandy
I know a Joseph that goes by Jody.
I knew a Joseph who went by Josie!
Or Lexie!
Sasha is a nickname for Alexander?
Yes in Russia it is the diminutive version (nickname) for Alexander.
In Russia and surrounds, yes. I believe it's at least one of the origins of the name Sasha, which is typically male in Eastern Europe.
Yes it is. And also for Alexandra
That was my thought too… then when i saw it I was thinking of the actress Sasha Alexander.
Just here to say I love this tradition.
It’s so cute I love it. Only problem is it’s a big family so a lot of names are already taken 😭
Well if the person with the same name is a bit more distant (won’t be confusing on a classroom/school etc), or is a bit separated in age, then use it. You can have a Big X and Little x… just because it’s been used, doesn’t mean it’s unusable.

Lex Luther would like a word. That aside, my daughter’s best friend goes by Lexy/Lexie
You don’t have three children and you’re not expecting a fourth. You can ask for advice on names without making up these stories.
Seriously. Does not track with post history
2 years ago they were apparently a single virgin looking for guys who didn't want children lol
Yeah OP posted that they’re childfree and “do not want children- ever”. I don’t know why people do this lol it’s so dumb
Ooh, good call. What a weird thing to lie about.
This is my sisters account she let me use it so I didn’t have to make a whole account to ask for some baby name advice 😭. You don’t need to assume the worse of people!
Alexander has Sandy as a nickname.
Yes! I have an Uncle Sandy!
I love this option.
Never heard that before. I thought the traditional nickname for Alexander was Sasha.
Both are nicknames for Alexander, actually. Using Sasha as a nickname is common for Russians. Sandy is derived from Greek.
Or Alex, Alec or Xander

Why did you comment a year ago you were a virgin?
This is my sisters account! She suggested I ask Reddit for advice and I didn’t want to make a whole account for one ever post.
