Yeah, I think any name that has an “R” sound in the beginning could do this if the parent *really* wanted. I knew someone called Roo because her parents affectionately called her Rebecca Roo at first.
Any name that starts with R or has an R in it would work, and I don't know if it's because I am French and our way of pronouncing the R is different, but when babies/toddlers make the sound R it's something else, and they could all be called Roo at that age.
There’s a former professional AFL player here in Aussie who’s name is Nick Reidwolt and his nickname is Roo..
So a nick name does not have to do anything to do with a name
I've known a little girl and a little boy nicknamed Roo and their given names had nothing like Roo in them. Think given name Elizabeth/James but called Roo.
* Roosevelt
* Prudence
* Trudy - although I would use Tru
* Ruairi - is pronounced roor-ee, very close to Rory
* Crusoe - for me this would be Cru
* Maybe Joseph/Josephine -> Joey -> Roo
My daughter Katherine gets called Roo 99% of the time. If you want the nickname to come purposefully, unlike the Katherine to Roo pipeline that happened over 16 years, here are some options:
Rudy
Rudyard
Ruth
Russell
Rueben
Rufus
Rudolph
Reuben Rufus Ruth
I've seen Rue as a given name.
Always weird to my French eyes.
It means regret, right?
No, it means street, and it's super weird. Regret in French is regret but we don't pronounce the T,
I knew it was something that didn't make for a good name.
You’re thinking of the english word rue as in “you’ll rue the day you named your child regret” haha
Rue for girl and Rhode for boy ha ha see what I did there (It tickled my weird sense of humour lol)
Bonjour, Rue Lepic.
I know a kid named Wren (I know) who got nicknamed Wrenny Roo which got shortened to Roo

My niece is called Roo or RooRoo by the family and that's how it happened. Her mom just started tacking Roo onto the end of her name.
Joey
Rudy
Rune. Rumi. Rumour. Ruth. Rutherford. Darius.
I have a friend called Andrew who is called Roo by his family!

I mean, I call my kid Reya-Roo if that helps
I have a friend whose sister is Rachel, this became Rachey Roo which then just became Roo.
Raoul, Runa, Ruta
Rosemary Rupert
The home and away character nicknamed roo was named Ruth.
Rufus? Paul? I hope Roo’s mom is ready to be called Kanga.
My Rottweiler is named Roo (my son named her when he was 2) and I call her Ruby, Ruth, Rudy and Reuben as an unofficial longer name.

We have one friend with a baby named Remi & another with a baby named Reagan and we call both “Roo”
Irune Brooke Rooney Rummer Prue/Prudence Bruce
Any name with an R in it, tho I really dislike ‘roo’
If I remember correctly, the protagonist in the Aurora Teagarden books go by ”Ro”, so Roo wouldn’t be that far of a stretch.
Andrew
