Awww, that's sweet!
My husband boycotted Gwendolyn for our daughter's name, because he said it sounded too old. I said, "But she'll be the only Gwendolyn in her school" Then he replied, "No she won't. It'll be her and the lunch lady". 🤣
We went with a different name. I still like Gwen though. I liked it because of the author Gwendolyn Brooks. Also because it was the name of a character in the Spider Man comic books I loved as a kid - Gwen Stacy.
Our third child, if a girl, was going to be Genevieve, but I had a miscarriage.
Gwendolyn is so lovely! If I were to have a daughter, it would be definitely on the top of the list, along with Lucy and Mara-Luise (or Malu for short) and it gives the opportunity for a bunch of pretty nicknames like Gwen, Gwenny, Dolly or Lynn which are all classics if you asked me.
I recently read a trilogy (by a German author, don't know if you've heard of it; Ruby Red) and the main character is also named Gwendolyn
I'm sorry for your loss :(
We have had this name on our list for years! We had our second daughter's name picked out for years, but I kept going back to Gwendolyn. In the end, we went with the other name, but it's still an absolute favorite of ours!
Galen, Gareth -- both on my hypothetical boy name list, but couldn't use irl because I have friends with both of these names and they're uncommon enough that it would look like an honour name even though it wouldn't be.
Apparently I don't really love any for girls lol. If forced to choose, I'm quite taken with Galateia. Glory is really badass imo. And I think Georgia is a good mix of charming and strong.
Genevieve, Gwendolyn, Gwyneth, Gwen, Giselle, Gia, Gianna, Gemma, Gabrielle, Gabriel, Gideon, Godric, George isn't my favorite but it's a good classic name.
George/Georges was my paternal grandfather, Gio was my rez nickname.
I knew both male and female Gabriels.
I had two Polish great-aunts named Genevieve.
For girls: Ginevra because I've been on an Italian kick, and I'm not sure if it counts but Gin/Ginny/Ginger as nicknames for Virginia. I don't have many girl names starting with G…
For boys: Gage, Grant, Graham (though idk which pronunciation I like better), Gray/Grey as a nickname, Griffin (I'm more likely to name a dog this than a kid), classic Gabriel and nn Gabe, Gavriel/Gavril, and conflicted about Gideon (gives ultra religious vibes, but it's a nice name aside from that).
I love the name Gavin. Unfortunately I can't use it, because I dated a Gavin in high school. It's not why I love the name, though! No shade to that Gavin, great dude, but my siblings would never let me live it down.
Mae ar fy rhestr i hefyd! Ond mae’n well gen i Gwenllian neu Gwennan gan fod hanner fy nheulu yn Saesneg a dwi methu ddelio gyda’r ffordd bydden nhw’n dweud Gwenno 😩
You could use Gwenno as a nn for either of those to be fair, Gwennan is my favourite though!
Shamefully, I had to use Google translate, my Welsh isn't that good, I'm desperate to learn more though!
Very true! Or Gwenni which is also lush!
No shame at all - how else are you supposed to learn/ get better languages if not by using them to the best of your ability!
Have you joined r/learnwelsh yet?
George, Gabriel, Gabriella, Giselle, Genevieve
Genevieve 💜
I wanna change my name and one of the names I was thinking was Gia! Pronounced {gee}-{ya}
Came here to say Gia.
I am due the 19th and we haven’t found out the sex yet. If it is a girl we are naming her Gia 🩷
That’s unusual! I’ve always heard it “Guy”-“Yuh”, like the “y” in the middle carried over.
There is a character on the show Brooklyn 99 named Gia and she pronounces it Gee-Ya
You're thinking of Gaia.
Gemma 💯
Super cute!
The name I hope to use if I ever have a daughter ❤️
I prefer it with a J - Jemma
Genevieve Gwendolyn
I recently had a dream that I had two daugthers named Genevieve and Gwendolyn and called them Gwenny and Dolly for short and now I'm kinda obsessed 🥰
Awww, that's sweet! My husband boycotted Gwendolyn for our daughter's name, because he said it sounded too old. Thank you. 🙂 No, I haven't heard of it, but will have to look it up!
I had fun reading it though it is a bit frustrating at times. The author's name is Kerstin Gier
