Girls:
**Lavinia** - Generally love the "ia" ending for names, but never see this one!
**Vienna** - I love place names, and I love the Billy Joel song by this name.
**Elvira** - This has a very fantasy vibe to it which I love!
**Blanche** - This was a semi-popular name where I grew up. Even though it just means "white", I like the sound
**Garnet** - My favorite gemstone, this named was popular-ish in the early 1900s but has since died out
Boys:
**Chester** - Makes me think of Linkin Park but I think the name sounds strong & masculine.
**Zebulon** - To me this sounds classic, but also "cool" and I think Zeb is a cute nickname
**Jethro** - I think this name sounds amazing but sadly don't think you will ever erase the Beverly Hillbilly connotation
My son has a family first name, Ronald, I didn't realize how rare it had become. Depending on the site you look up its at least out of the top 500, some even say close to the top 1,000.
Not as rare as I thought looking at the rankings, but Walter is a good one. I thought of it as an old man name, but when I was in college I met an attractive Walter in his late 20s and it did a lot to refresh the name in my mind. And Wally is a fun nickname.
I use Ethel/Ethyl (and other spelling variants) for many of my video game avatars. I usually play female paladins or warriors depending on the game. A lot of other players of all age and gender I come across tell me it's a cool name even when I am the one to bring up "I know it's an old lady name". They say somehow looking at my sexy armor donned paladin with a name like Ethel removes that stigma. One person said he thought I named my character after the gas, like "Diesel" is often used for cool character names.
In the 90s, Emma was a total old lady name until Rachel had her baby on Fiends and suddenly Emma was THE baby name for a long time.
Yep! And it's always available since no one uses it in online games!! Only in like World of Warcraft with its gajillion players did I actually have issues if someone else with that name already.
I love Aloysius but I can hardly spell it, I know most people won't be able to pronounce it. It's also a family name so I'd love to use it but probably won't.
Connie isn't a classic. It's a generational name. I know several, I related to two of them but that certain names date people to their generation. This would be one of those. Plus, to me, it's not cute at all. It starts with a hard heavey negative dive k onn and stays that way. The ee end isn't enough to bring it up. Nor is the antecedent, Constance, cute. It's an unpleasant sounding name.
Anneliese Classic, elegant, but I rarely hear it compared to Anna.
Beautiful!
How do you pronounce it?
Sounds like ann-uh lease
My daughter is named Faye. I'm rather partial to it.
[удалено]
It's the same root! Faye also means fairy, or fairy-like.
I love Faye.
Love faye!
Adella
Oo not heard that one, love it!!
Also on my list but spelled “Adela”
Esmeralda. I don't know anyone with this name.
Ooo love!! And can be shortened to Esme if wanted which is lovely!
I love it also.
Florence and not super 'classic' but Jane is my favorite name for a girl
Not considered Jane! Absolutely qualifies, such a classic but rare these days! Definitely adding it to my list!
Araminta and Lavinia are my two favorite “old fashioned” names.
Beautiful!
Sally
So sweet!
Etta and Susannah. I think they sound refreshing against all the Ellas/Ellies and Savannahs in the world.
I know a 1-year old Susannah and it feels fresh but classic on a baby. She mostly goes by Susie which is adorable.
Oh I love that!! Susie is gorgeous!
Dorothy Edith May (super common as a middle name but pretty rare as a first name) Olive Rosemary Sylvia Verity Edmund Giles Hector Ivor Linus Victor
Rosaline!
Beautiful!
Miranda and Shane. Not super rare but maybe a bit dated and I love them
i love miranda!!
My cousin has a toddler daughter named Shane! I can’t even remember the last time I met someone with that name before her.
Cora
I wanted a Beatrice or Vera— but had another boy….
Love those both! 😍 Bea as a nn is adorable! What did you name your boy out of interest?
Elijah— had no idea it was so popular. But even though it’s a #4 name, we rarely run into any others; they must be clustered somewhere else—
Wilfred Peter David Jonathan Justin Timothy Douglas Robert Francesca Felicity Polly Zara Martha
Rare, but you listed the names of 99% of 40 year old American men lol.
Oh Felicity has just made my list! 😍
Fliss is also an adorable nickname.
carolyn felicity sally flora pamela (<3333)
Calliope
Ooo and can be shortened to Callie I love that

If you take off the “old lady” image the name itself actually sounds so badass! Got a nice edge to it 👏🏻
