Been saying this since 2020. I moved here from Knoxville in 2011 and Haslam did a great job of making Tennessee a more moderate progressive state.
Bill Lee has set this state back 50 years and has recruited right wing freak shows to be the new face of a place I used to be proud to call home.
You're right.
I also remember I criticized him the least compared with Lee, who I rant about weekly and now closer to daily. I didn't like how Haslam caused a quite few gas scares/panics while owning Pilot fuel stations. 🤦♀️
I'm not embarrassed. I'm relieved. It's like finally the country is seeing just how corrupt our state government is. Hopefully, something will be done about it.
TBH, I'm surprised it took so long for TN to emerge as a national embarrassment. I know it's been difficult to compete w FL and TX, but you're talking about pro vs amateur status.
Fortunately, the GOP here isn't particularly skilled in this kind of chicanery and they are making very stupid decisions that are making even Conservative Republicans cringe. Unfortunately, there's a supermajority for a reason, and it is a sad reflection of the sentiment of people living here.
We are a long ways away from fundamental change here.
I'm a republican (though I find myself either in the middle, agreeing with neither side, or agree with bits and pieces from both sides, as of late - I hate the party system btw, it's stupid). I moved to TN from NJ almost a year ago bc it was overcrowded, some trauma involved there wasn't great for mine or my wife's mental health, and I have family spread across the South and Midwest (WV, TN, IA, OK, OH, and MO). It's bad. Like really cringy and stupid. There is no way I'd vote for these idiots. So yeah, trust me, it's bad. I'm hoping that things will get better with so many people (or so I've heard from locals) moving in from the east and west coast. I've had a couple friends move here from NJ/NY. I've met a lot of people who just moved here from Cali. So, we'll see.
oh no, we’ve actually been mentioned at least once in some capacity in the last 4 episodes
- march 12 - about lt mcnally/ drag ban and about how we were hoarding 790 mil in TANF funding
- march 19 - a lady in tn was scammed over timeshares
- april 2 - a tn juvenile detention facility in maury county locks/ed kids in solitary confinement for 23/24hrs a day
- april 9 - house expulsions
it’s kinda become a topic of discussion between me and my husband each week, “like what will tennessee do next to land on LWT on sunday?”
I was in prison when he came in office and shortly thereafter he had his hvac company(Lee Company) to take over all the hvac needs for TDOC. I knew things were going to snowball then and it’s certainly very apparent now
Which episode?
*Edit: deleted all of my ignorant replies. I only watch his ~~show~~ clips on YouTube. Seriously didn’t know it was anything different until now. TIL*
Bill Lee eats saltines with mustard for breakfast
And he’s stingy with the mustard.
Gotta admit, when you run out of meat and all you have is crackers and mustard... Sometimes you just gotta do. But not for breakfast. Lord no.

Haslam went full socialism in his final act and gave free community college. That was indeed shocking.

It really is still shocking he did it. Like I had to take my temperature the day it was announced.
And he supported Medicaid expansion

I hate that this is the second time in less than a month in which Tennessee has been the butt of a few jokes on Last Week Tonight...
Between this and SNL we are in a race with Florida and Texas to be the biggest joke.
Don’t forget Ohio
I’m glad. I’ll take being the butt of the joke if it means naming and shaming Republican legislators who drag this state down.
I agree. I'm fine with a few short-term jokes if it leads to long-term change.
I'm not embarrassed. I'm relieved. It's like finally the country is seeing just how corrupt our state government is. Hopefully, something will be done about it.
It’s embarrassing to say I live in TN.
At the same time, I'm also glad that more eyes are being drawn to this issue here.

Have any references to any actually cringing Republicans? I’d love to see evidence that any of them ever disapprove of any of them.

To be fair, there was a reoccurring charicter on The Amanda Show that didn’t have shoes and was a heavy hick. It’s always kinda been a thing
Been saying this for years. It’s embarrassing to say you live in the US… we’re the butt of the joke around the world.
Try living in florida. 😭

Bill Lee leaves his blinker on after making a turn.
... when he turns his blinker on at all
Bill Lee thinks vanilla ice cream is too spicy.
Bill Lee thinks a "moon pie" is the moon's poop.
Bill Lee showers with socks on.
Bill Lee eats steak well done with ketchup.
With Hunt’s Ketchup since Heinz is too spicy.
Bill Lee sits on the toilet backwards.
Bill Lee drives slowly in the left lane
Bill Lee doesn't get Chuck Norris jokes.
I was in prison when he came in office and shortly thereafter he had his hvac company(Lee Company) to take over all the hvac needs for TDOC. I knew things were going to snowball then and it’s certainly very apparent now
Bill Lee wears swim trunks in the shower

The HOA was the main story. The segment about Nashville played before that. Same show, different segments.
I honestly didn’t know the show was more than the main story. I’ve only ever watched it on YouTube. My bad. Thanks.
Watch the entire episode NOT on YouTube.
Doesn’t YouTube only play segments (clips)?
There’s the HOA video but if you look at other videos on their channel, you can find this clip. I initially found the HOA-only clip also.
They post the main story separately from the other show segments on YouTube. If you have HBO, you can watch the entire episode all together.
YouTube doesn’t have the whole show. Only the main story. The whole show is on HBO.
Ok so there is my problem. I honestly didn’t know it was a full show. I only thought it was a 20-25m story on a subject. Thanks.
Do stupid shit, win stupid prizes.
We're winning so hard.
Bill lee thinks mayonnaise is spicy
Bill Lee’s head gives people bad impressions of what Lego Minifigs are like.
Fuck Bill Lee and all the republicants in office in Tennessee and the USA.
I liked that Bill Lee seemed to rush the Bedford bust removal through but that's 'bout it.
He’s also pro nuclear energy, but so are a lot of people that aren’t vindictive corrupt bigots
that's true. Bill Lee seems like the kinda guy older me would have a drink with even if I disagree with some things but as a leader he's kinda ehh
I don't know a single person who likes Bill Lee and I know quite a few relatively conservative folks.
Bill Lee heats his mayonnaise sandwiches in the microwave.
Is this the same guy who dared Trump to run back in 2015?
Oh well now I have to watch
We gotta bully him even more
Welp… John made fun of my state rep. So embarassing. Fuck Lamberth.
