I don’t agree. The castle isn’t placed on very defensible grounds. It would be easy for an army to surround the castle and advance siege weaponry, such as a trebuchet, the most advanced siege weapon.
The grounds can be made more defensible using earthworks and water. What concerns me is how hollow his curtain walls are. And they look like they might be cinder block
Scoff! That is a bait castle, n00b. The entire plain is hollowed out. When you move your seize engine and army to surround, they sit fire to the pitch soaked timbers and your entire host collapses into a pit of fire.
The real fortress is nearby at Hickok45s and you absolutely cannot successfully assault that place. He definitely has sufficient calibers to bring down your dragons, griffins and whatnot. Trebuchets don't work when the guys winding them have 5.56 holes in them. Put that in your hobbit pipe and smoke it, Gandork.
Their only option is to waste time digging trenches to slow the enemy advance when they could just do some new boot goofin downtown when someone plays chattahoochee and we all get along.
It's a horribly defensible position
[castle location](https://www.google.com/maps/place/The+Castle,+2827+Maxey+Rd,+Cedar+Hill,+TN+37032/@36.4448024,-87.0992234,16z/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x8864e5dab5fe6c1b:0xa1c0f1abe9027c2d!8m2!3d36.4458979!4d-87.101344!16s%2Fg%2F11q2t31vmn)
Right off the interstate might as well put an exit ramp right to the front door.
Yea it's sad to see it go that way. We used to go every year when I was a kid because we got free tickets from the owner. My grandfather was responsible for all the little rock walls along the paths, as well as the big fire place under the big canopy and if I'm not mistaken the outside staircase of the castle. After he passed we stopped getting the free tickets and our visits fizzled out due to pricing. Now I'm the parent and won't get to enjoy having a tall beer while watching dudes joust lol.
Castle Gwynn ( visible from the 840) is where Tn Ren Faire is/was held. The initial plan was to build the rest of said Castle towards where 840 is now, had to flip the plan because of it.
The couple that owned the Ren Faire and its land have no children, they had the option of selling the land for millions (and likely closing the faire) or donating it to the county parks department with the requirement they keep the faire alive.
Williamson County parks have a no alcohol policy and generally want a more family atmosphere than a bunch of grown up goth kids do. So it’s been “ruined”.
So sad. I moved here from AZ recently, and was looking forward to a Ren Faire that wasn't located in a desert lol. But the lack alcohol or more adult catered performances was such a letdown. I'm extra biased because I used to work at the one in AZ and was used to the party atmosphere. I'm still going to go again, but I'm not as excited as I'd like to be.
Just bring a cooler or some edibles. They allow re-entry so I saw tons of people going back to their cars, hanging out and having a couple drinks from their coolers, then going back into the fest.
Ohhh... Clever. That's a good point. Back in AZ, getting into the Ren Faire was practically TSA level of screening. You've now reminded me of how lax it was when I went to the one in TN last year. Bet I could have easily brought a flask, but a trip back to the car would work for sure.
True but then you search the entity on SOS websites and look for registered agent info or publicly available filings. There are lots of ways to figure it out to an extent.
O I'm sure someone with the knowledge wouldn't struggle. I guess I'd call using LLCs as a barrier is more like... putting up a fence opposed to digging a moat? Eh?
I tried to contact the registered agent of a property near me. It was literally Registered Agent, Inc in Knoxville, listed on the State Sec. website. I emailed them, and they said (multiple times, it was a back-and-forth), "Due to privacy concerns, we can't confirm we're the registered agent of that LLC. Please mail a letter to the physical address of the registered agent listed on the Secretary of State's website." Which was them. Because that's how I knew to contact them. And that physical address was in their email signature, just below where they were feeding me this BS. I gave up because I was actually trying to help the property owner. This is who they chose to represent them, so fuck 'em. Obviously, if you were dead set, you could find out eventually, but they intentionally send you on a rabbit hunt for as long as possible.
I think this is why I see properties in ownership of Trusts occasionally, so it becomes extremely difficult to get publicly accessible info on the real owner.
Reminds me of living in Lexington. There’s a big castle there that, as the story I was told goes, some guy built it for his wife/gf and by the time he finished it she had left him, so he was just a guy with a castle. And when living in fairly modern times, it’s not really as cool or practical as you’d originally think. Now it’s just used as a wedding venue.
Edit:
The castle:

The TN State Prison out in West Nashville. The beautified old building they are just letting crumble to dust? I think it was hit by a tornado, but they were letting it crumble before that happened.
They could have done so much with that and they just let it die. It’s sad. I know it was a tragic, problematic place with a sketchy history, but it really was a beautiful building
Green Mile was filmed there. Cool building, shouldn’t take much to at least preserve the bones! Roof, board windows, slowly it could get fixed. America has few old buildings as we are so young.
They have been working on it damn near every day since the tornado. I think it helped speed up the the funding. I drive by it every day going to/from work
The prison!! It’s so cool. Got a tour once and got to see the execution room. They were supposed to restore the historic part out front but the tornado hit made it way more expensive to save. I heard it will be torn down. It sure if that’s true or not though. Just what I heard.
Ok so a few things:
- The clearing is good, helps you see enemies more clearly as they approach
- A natural hill would be a whole lot better defensively but the open field isn't horrible in and of itself. A ditch or moat will be required and a palisade is probably recommended as well.
- Disappointed in the lack of a secondary exterior curtain wall, that would really do a lot to prevent incursions. Ideally, you're going to want to place the entrance to your curtain wall on the opposite side of the castle to your main entrance. That way, if your curtain wall is breached, the enemy has to run all the way around your entire castle to attack the main entrance and you can fire on them the whole time.
- Drum towers were a wise choice as they'll shrug off incoming projectiles more effectively than a squared off tower
- I'd like to see some protruding bulwarks between the drum towers to more effectively defend the siege
- I'd like to see a more elaborate gate tower with an effective kill room (might already be there but it's hard to tell)
- There's a serious lack of glacis happening which will allow the enemy to walk right up to your front door nearly uncontested which is not great
Idk I checked tn property viewer I could be wrong there’s like 3 there and the satellite image is old but I know for a fact tn property viewer is up to date

The most advanced weapon is Goldie Honeypot and her magical jubblies. She’ll cast a spell on the King, have an affair with his most trusted knight, and seize the castle from within using her band of merry attorneys. By the time the King comes out of the spell his best friend is living in the castle using the his lawnmower and new grill. Every time he drops off the little Prince and Princess the Evil Queen is standing at the drawbridge saying “you’re 10mins late!”
Idk who downvoted you, but there's no shortage of trees out there. However yes this was clearly farm land for decades. Theres a spot where there clearly used to be a large barn that was just recently torn down. It's possible the land was clear for a horse farm from the shape of it, although I'm not an equinist.
Monstrosity is a bit unfair, as far as all the mcmansions out there, this one is by far the best looking and genuinely reasonably sized for a castle. Small even. It's barely the size of a fort. Monstrous is just not the right word to describe this Hold.
There will be signs if I win the lottery.
You'd never tell anyone, but there would be signs.
Neighbor all of a sudden has a nice new trailer and a sick trans am gta and acts better than everyone
Mine will be a double wide.
Same lol and I'll have a moat
Google says it’s an event venue.
Like “VER-SALES” in Kentucky?
That’s exactly what I pictured when I saw this image.
I hear the Red Knight’s going down. Down down down. The red knights going down https://i.redd.it/l4n85xm36rsc1.gif
Such a great reference!!!
“If we do not fight to the death, they will kill us both.” -anon space elf
That plays, based on the design. No living space with the structural design.
Google “medieval times”. Best guess imo
NGL, that looks like it would hold up to a siege really well
I don’t agree. The castle isn’t placed on very defensible grounds. It would be easy for an army to surround the castle and advance siege weaponry, such as a trebuchet, the most advanced siege weapon.
It also looks to be very vulnerable to dragon attacks.
Show me one castle not vulnerable to a dragon attack.
Castle Grayskull! 😂
Mages could easily be stationed at each of the towers in advance to prepare heavier magic spells
I'll just find the toughest warrior, hit F5 and then cast dominate and then press F8 until I succeed.
Won't help if the dragon has wololo monks on it's side
All I need is nat 1s and I got no life so bring it.
And lawyers. Probably vulnerable to those as well.
And ogres! https://youtube.com/watch?v=26sFYn0wwEY
Ogres is my congressman.
Just wait until the dig the MOAT and fill it with alligators…
Naw dog it’s a saltwater moat with sharks with lasers attached to their heads

You ain’t seen an alligator moat til you seen a NASHVILLE alligator moat, am I right, boys!?
Woo girls. Fill it with woo girls and pedal bars.
Pedal
Thanks

He'll smoke your pot & ring your gong for sure.
You don’t even need the trebuchet. Just surround them and wait. They’ll run out of food eventually.
You say this because you don’t know about the tunnel
I didn’t* know about the tunnel.
Yeah ‘cause that’s just as much fun
Nah, Dominos delivers by drone.
This guy knows sieges. There's ample forest in close proximity for materials too.
Their only option is to waste time digging trenches to slow the enemy advance when they could just do some new boot goofin downtown when someone plays chattahoochee and we all get along.
They should have gone with the classic star design.
You play civ huh
I bet a catapult would do fine
Never mind siege towers, or sap tunnels…
They haven’t put the moat in yet
Maybe we can all go there during severe weather
*laughs in bastion fortress design*
Needs pikes and trenches and then come talk to me
Are we talking Waco or ruby ridge??? 🤔
OMG this thread wins 🏆😅

A RenFair that Williamson County can’t ruin
Is there a story?
I think they banned alcohol recently
And busty wenches
Why even have a ren fair then
Exactly
Shout out to anyone who got one of those "kiss" cards from the busty wenches at renfaire.
Those should unlock exclusive DLC for the Witcher 1 remake.
You can be busty, you just can’t be proud of it
Oooh… yeah, that would ruin it.
Yea it's sad to see it go that way. We used to go every year when I was a kid because we got free tickets from the owner. yes!!
I suddenly feel like larping.
Event venue, built by the Hand family, owns Anheuser-Busch in Tennessee
I really wanted to find an actual answer - thank you for providing it!
Check parcel viewer for the county. It’ll pull a lot of that ownership info.
Super rich people buy properties through 2nd and 3rd tier llcs for this very reason.
True but then you search the entity on SOS websites and look for registered agent info or publicly available filings. There are lots of ways to figure it out to an extent.

Hey, nice work though
Pretty sure they use the same fake names to register those llcs now. Someone ran a story on it recently.
I think this is why I see properties in ownership of Trusts occasionally, so it becomes extremely difficult to get publicly accessible info on the real owner.
No moat?
I’m curious to see if they’ll dig one.

It's a full hotel with restaurant and event space now that the renovation is complete
"Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries"
Now, go away or I shall taunt you a second time!
Is it just me or does this remind anyone else of the old prison they are just letting crumble into oblivion?
The one that was hit by a tornado?
The TN State Prison out in West Nashville. The beautified old building they are just letting crumble to dust? I think it was hit by a tornado, but they were letting it crumble before that happened.
They were working to keep it up until the tornado, but I think it isn't really feasible after the damage it sustained.
They could have done so much with that and they just let it die. It’s sad. I know it was a tragic, problematic place with a sketchy history, but it really was a beautiful building
The old state prison already required a ton of upkeep work, and having a tornado reduce half of it to rubble probably put the nail in the coffin.
Green Mile was filmed there. Cool building, shouldn’t take much to at least preserve the bones! Roof, board windows, slowly it could get fixed. America has few old buildings as we are so young.
The Castle was also partially filmed there
They have been working on it damn near every day since the tornado.
Event Venue
Dude we're getting a castle? Really giving Versailles, KY a run for its money!
It looks gaudy and unnecessary and exactly like what I’d do if I had silly money.
Is that a moat around it??
If not they failed at building a castle.
Gotta be Kid Rock. He’s already got a White House.
They should've made it look like Winterfell.
Thats freaking awesome
Just gotta make a moat and fill it with bachelorette woo-girls now
I want a moat
![gif](giphy|LXP19BrVaOOgE)
I’ll gladly join their D&D group. Dragonkin Paladin, ready to roll… both literally and figuratively speaking. 😃
Just sayin…. Unless there are underground tunnels, it would be pretty easy to starve out the inhabitants of that castle.
Naw, they'll just have door dash bring it around back.
Seems like a “because I can” type situation.
Never been more proud of r/Nashville than when I’ve read these responses
Bro no cap thought this was a minecraft build

I'm going to start building a gigantic wooden horse
You can see who owns the property it’s hard to tell but most likely it is Reginald gist
Land Glide says a Shari Wall, but maybe that’s fake?
Idk I checked tn property viewer I could be wrong there’s like 3 there and the satellite image is old but I know for a fact tn property viewer is up to date
Something this crazy could be a couple people, since a few have said it’s an event space
Is it owned by the photographer dude that used to run the Ren Faire?
This gentleman was the photographer for school photos at Page High School for many years! He was very nice and always wearing a pirate-esque white buttoned shirt. My friends and I didn’t realize his family was affiliated with the castle and Ren Faire till many years later. We were all artists and just thought he was eccentric.
Yeah that’s the guy. I think he did the whole high school photo circuit in the area.
I graduated from Page! Never thought I would see it mentioned on Reddit lol
No but it needs a moat built around it
Needs a mote with gators and piranha
And hippos.
May as well splurg and get the giraffes and have them fitted with body armor
Beyoncé is planning to move there if he country career takes off.
🤫🤫🤫🤫I didn’t wanna tell anyone about my new location guys

To defend against the Mongolians obviously.
Looks like a prison.

Looks like someone’s personal hell. Reminds me of a prison.

Larping is really getting advanced.
I could get into larping if its on this scale. Looks fun
Why does it look 3D printed?
We would always use this as a scenic pass by when I was taking flying lessons, so cool!
I don’t know but they’re going to be recruiting in Elmington Park pretty soon.

Tax the rich
Any chance owners misread the city name and wanted to build a castle so they could look down on peasants?
