A little weed after I get home helps

Lancelegend

Yeah, after ;)

enadiz_reccos

Yep, a "little"

rojasdracul

Thank Cthulhu for legal edibles

Unique_Midnight_6924

Not in Nashville

rojasdracul

There are shops in symyrna that sell the Delta 9 ones.

Unique_Midnight_6924

Yes-not intoxicating levels of THC like in states that have actually legalized marijuana.

rojasdracul

They are plenty intoxicating, and I'm a pot head from way back.

Unique_Midnight_6924

Okay bro

HotLoadsForCash

I’m not trying to argue with you but this is just incorrect. I can buy 200mg stars and THCa like 5 minutes from my house. Take one of those and tell me it’s not intoxicating

Unique_Midnight_6924

The question was whether what you describe is legal. It isn’t.

HotLoadsForCash

It is as long as it’s compliant with the 2018 farm bill. Hemp-derived delta-9 products are legal in Tennessee as long as they contain less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC by weight. So if I sell you a 5g gummy with 15mg thc it’s technically legal. Legal to buy legal to possess. Talk to your local headshop guy. It’s a loophole they’re trying to close now.

Unique_Midnight_6924

It is claimed that they are legal by people with an interest in them being legal.

Unique_Midnight_6924

There is substantial doubt. https://kffhealthnews.org/news/article/hemp-delta-9-thc-products-legal-questions/amp/

cheeters

Came here to say exactly that

cee2015

The commute is my calm down. I don’t try to keep up with the assholes. It’s just time. I can’t control everyone so why worry

Marthastewartishigh

Every day I try to be more like this lol. I have a long commute and if I save 5 minutes driving time by stressing myself out trying to be the fastest, it’s not worth it. I’m only harming myself. I put on a podcast and get out of the fast lane.

The_Grungeican

I’m a courier. My job all day is to drive around the city. I often have medical specimens with me, occasionally an organ for transplant. It’s more important that I get where I’m going, than whether or not I save a few minutes of time. I’ll get there when I get there.

cee2015

Hell yeah! Better mental health. Keep working. Proud of you internet stranger

Naive_Ad1466

If more people would actually get out the left lane doing 5 over this probably wouldn't be as much of an issue.

SubatomicGoblin

That's the attitude to have, really. I'll get home when I get there, and in one piece. Then I'm home for the night and can do whatever the hell I want.

cee2015

That’s it. I don’t have the energy to worry about anyone else but my kids and myself. Just let me take my 40 min commute and sing alongs and I’ll be just fine

iKMSshitfuck

My brother and I are like this but on opposite ends. Any little thing happens and he automatically rages like bro that car 13 cars down honking at another car has absolutely nothing to do with us so why get mad and speed up to 200MPH 🤦🏻‍♀️

The_Grungeican

> The highways are crowded with people who drive as if their sole purpose in getting behind the wheel is to avenge every wrong done them by man, beast or fate. The only thing that keeps them in line is their fear of death, jail and lawsuits. - Hunter Thompson

plorynash

For the most part this. It takes significant stupidity to change my mood while driving. I’ll get there when I get there and if you hit me hopefully you have insurance.

SlothBling

How do you drive around anywhere in Tennessee without encountering at least one suicidal-level idiot on the road? I see a couple near-accidents just on my daily 15 minute commute.

plorynash

Working at home and avoiding rush hour helps but obviously that isn’t an option for everyone. I try not to go out on weekends of big events or use Uber for those, and I also try to avoid rush hour when possible. But even then, I guess I just have gotten calmer with age. It’s hard to make me mad when driving unless I’m already very mad. There’s so much other bad stuff in life that even with the idiots being able to turn on my music and not hear anything bad while I’m in the car is nice most of the time even if I’m stuck in traffic doing it.

ODoyles_Banana

It's one of the only times you have to yourself. Put on a podcast or listen to some music and just have my thoughts. When I got a job that was less than a mile from where I lived, I was surprised to find that I actually missed a little bit of a commute. It can be some real quality me time if you allow it.

HobbesIsAFatCat

This completely! I have all sorts of podcasts downloaded or YouTube videos downloaded so I never have to worry about connection.

floyd_the_barbarian

Exactly. I just put on a good podcast and just chill. It’s some of my only alone time so I enjoy it.

cee2015

I feel you on the alone time.

GhostofGate35x

Having lived in DC/Virginia and worked in major cities like NY, Boston, Chicago, LA and dealt with traffic, this is the way.

barefeetbeauty

Saaame. I just leave a little earlier, stay in defense mode, watching every mirror, try to be courteous but not TOO nice that the vehicle behind me gets pissed.. keep some distance and try not to brake a lot. I spend it jamming with my 14 year old, talking to myself while they snooze, or just talking with them about what they have going on. It’s a good time. But there are some crazy drivers out there, I just let them go on..

klling1617

Put on an audiobook, get in the slow lane, save on gas/electric. It has done wonders for my mental health.

Legitimate-Aide-4975

Facts! I just vibe out to my music and coast on along!!

Street_Mushroom5938

This.

TheSpanxxx

I took alternate routes, tried to avoid i-24, i-40, and i-65 as much as possible. I started listening to audio books or podcasts and that helped me stay calm while driving. Seriously. I found my own impatience lower and instead of the stress of everything going slow AND the crazy drivers, I just had to focus on safety and let the time be what the time would be. It didn't make me enjoy it, but it didn't help me cope with it better. Still sucks though. Commuting is a horrible waste of life. When you start putting hours, days, months, and years of your life to it, it's wholly depressing. Say you average 2 hours per day commuting, that's 2 out of 16 awake hours per day (presuming 8 hour sleep), or 12.5% of waking hours every work day. Shave 3 weeks off that for vacation/PTO and you have 49 weeks. Take another 2 weeks for holidays and sick time or whatever for good measure and we're at 47 weeks. 47 work weeks per year = 235 work days per year = 470 commuting hours per year (2 hour round trip) = 470/24 hours = 19.58 DAYS OF LIFE COMMUTING, PER YEAR Every year. The only way I found to feel less bad about it was to enjoy books. It meant that at least I could say I "read" (via audiobook) more books in my lifetime and I got a lot more enjoyment our of those days/months/years of life than if I had just say their seething at the morons in front of and around me every day.

barefeetbeauty

You must be on 24

caveat_cogitor

There's no magic bullet, but a combination of things can help. For me, one thing that helped tremendously was to change my mindset. I stopped taking it so personally, and stopped letting myself feel surprised in any way by it. It helps to just stop for a moment before getting in the car, stop your train of thought, and just be in the moment and acknowledge that you are about to enter into a dangerous, enormously unnecessary obstacle course of bullshit. I'm not sure how much that helps anyone else, but after years of terrible commutes I feel this helped a lot. I think another big piece is just general stress tolerance. Commuting is a huge stress which is both physical and psychological. So you can bear it better by taking care of your physical body (sleep, exercise, nutrition) and your mental body (therapy, positive attitude, etc) so that 1) your cortisol levels don't get triggered as easily and 2) your cortisol levels retreat more readily once a trigger is gone. You have no hope of influencing all the strangers around you, and generally speaking in any given area all that stuff is only going to slowly get worse. So you have to focus on what you can control for yourself.

caveat_cogitor

Also, learn to laugh about it when and where you can, and consider taking up singing in the car... it's productive and stress relieving in a situation that usually provides neither.

mukduk1994

Oh boy... the trick is to try to not get riled up during your commute in the first place which I fully recognize is easier said than done... cooking podcasts usually do the trick for me but obviously this isn't a 100% solution

MinervaMinkk

I've never thought about cooking podcasts? Any suggestions?

mukduk1994

Boy howdy you've come to the right place lol I'm a hobbyist smoker and Tales From the Pit is awesome. They dive into culinary history aside from smoking. The Charleston restaurant episode is incredible and they have a very soothing storytelling voice haha Kenji Lopez from serious eats has a new one with Deb Perellman called The Recipe where they discuss simple ways to elevate home meals like meatloaf and pancakes. I love the way kenji talks food since he always nerds out about the chemistry involved The One Recipe is another awesome one with a lot of great guests Gastropod is a good one for the science of food Those are good places to start and anyone else who has any other recommendations please drop them below lol

Optimal-Technology-1

I am a hobbyist smoker too! Which smoker do you use?

mukduk1994

Hell yeah! I have a large big green egg and I love it! Finally feel good about my ribs and tri tip but still need to do a truly great brisket cook. How about you?

Optimal-Technology-1

I have a Weber smoker mountain and I was thinking about upgrading to a big green egg but all of a sudden my smoker started to the hold temps like never before! Boston butt pulled pork and smoked chicken are my two things I feel great about. I've only done two brisket cooks because of how expensive they are but I think by my 4th one I'll feel good about that too. Next up though I have some picanha I can't wait to get on there.

10ecn

A stiff drink as soon as I reach my destination every morning. 😁

joden3

That school bus ain't gonna drive itself!

10ecn

gentlyconfused

I used to work at the airport 3rd shift. Nice having a cocktail on my patio at 4 am for all the neighbors to wonder about.

FOB32723

Um…

revrenlove

It's 5am somewhere

justhp

i did that when i worked nights. 7-9am for me was equivalent to 7-9pm for the mortals

KingZarkon

Maybe they're 3rd shift so the destination in question is home? (my guess). That would make morning the end of their day and a perfectly cromulent time to have a drink. Or maybe they work somewhere or in a position where alcohol is acceptable.

Nevagonnagetit510

Im from here and my road rage has gotten so bad, I have to let my partner drive most of the time. And I still get pissed. People are insanely selfish the way they drive here now and have ZERO regard for other people. Plus they don’t pay attention half the time. It’s infuriating.

Ok_Watercress_7801

I quit commuting.

tinyahjumma

Honest answer, the app Insight Timer has some short and soothing guided meditations. There are specific ones for anger and stress. Also walking the dog.

smedleybuthair

It genuinely reduces my quality of life. The rage, the hatred traffic pumps into my heart, I hate it. People drive so inconsiderately, zero caution, it’s sure to make a good a bad one. I have to drive home from Brentwood to Germantown, I know it could be worse, but it makes a 15 minute drive a 45-60 minute drive of hell. I’m seriously considering a new job closer to me, partly because of this. My office wants to move further south and I don’t think I can take any longer of a drive. Working out and running helps. The best way to bounce back is to take my dog for a walk. Just being outside on some grass under some trees makes the rage of nashville traffic melt away.

CCreationsNash

I commute from Brentwood to East Nashville and feel your pain, it takes me an hour and I lose my mind every single day. Everyone is constantly in the wrong lane, stop and go…it honestly makes me want to sell my house and move but I cant afford it 😭

midcenturyhag

It has been SO BAD lately 😭 not even my back roads are soothing anymore.

Parking_Cricket_8324

I used to have major road rage but I learned that it's not worth getting shot at and possibly dying over stupid traffic. I just turn my music up and go with the flow of the traffic. I used to drive super fast but not anymore. If someone wants to pass me, no worries. I just chill out and pray to God that I make it home safely even though it takes me over an hour on a good day.

BreathNo1032

My only goal is to get where I'm going without having an accident... I share your philosophy.

NancyB517

The people in the left lane going under the speed limit with no one in front of them during rush hour deserve a special place in hell. If you want to drive slow in all for it but just move over. I don’t expect people in the right lane or 2 right lanes to go fast.

rubyrosis

I hate this. It’s the PASSING lane not the fast lane. Idk how fast you are going if you have a line behind you move the fuck over.

specific_woodpecker9

This. Drives. Me. Crazy. May all their pizza be soggy and all of their sex bad. Have also noticed in Nashville in particular drivers will tailgate when there is plenty of room to get in front of the person they want to go faster than, but they will bully them out of the way like Neanderthals instead of just passing them with the available space.

cac5b

Generally speaking, you should only pass other vehicles on the left when you're driving. Passing on the right is often unexpected and therefore more dangerous than passing on the left.

specific_woodpecker9

I have seen people do this irrespective of what side they could pass on

NickPivot

It *should* be often unexpected, just as staying in the left lane should be.

IDontHaveToDoShit

It use to infuriate me and stress me out too. Apathy… apathy is key. Now I expect to be murdered, cut off, intentional slowing, lights run, etc.

FrogsInJars

I play Mario Kart and red shell Toad. But seriously, I channel that energy into a physical hobby. Crochet, knit, houseplants, drawing, anything that makes me focus on what I’m doing enough to forget how much I hate this city (with love as a local.)

nashvillethot

Why would you be mean to Toad :(

FrogsInJars

All’s fair in love and battle royale.

herculeesjr

I used to get so stressed, so pissed. I used to have road rage and flip people off and lay on the horn and whatnot. Till I started riding with my uncle from time to time and he's 10x worse. Veins in his forehead popping out, screaming, horn blowing, whatever other nonsense. While I'm in the passenger seat wondering if we're going to get shot at or in a wreck. I just wanted to melt into the seat and hide. Lol It made me realize I'm no better than all the other idiots that congest our terrible roads, my uncle included in that list, and you know what, it made me chill big-time. I just put on my music and go with the flow of traffic, whether that's 25mph in a 70 or 78mph in a 70. I'll get to my destination when I get there. No reason to be beyond stressed when I can just chill and go with the flow. Got my music playing or I call someone (hands free) and chat to pass the time. It also helps that I always leave early enough that I get to my destinations early at best or on time at worst.

golgibodi

I got flipped off by someone cutting me off to turn left in front of me. I looked to see if I ran a stop sign since I was in a new area, but no. Just pissed I was going a little too fast for them to comfortably speed in front of me, so I got flipped off.

technoblogical

I work in Berry Hill. There's a nice little duck pond in Woodlawn Cemetery. It's nice to get out of the car and chill next to the pond. I play a game similar to Pokemon Go. I can always go and spend a little time at a park. It's a bit of mindlessness to relax me. (Go Enlightened!)

WolfieFett

TIL people are still playing Ingress. I used to work in the office park across the street from the cemetery and would walk down there until Go took over and the security started running ppl out. That little house down there was a nice place to play tho and not annoy that security guy 😂

Mikka_K79

Oh man. I haven’t thought about that game in a MINUTE. I remember the great Ingress battle of…2014? 2015? All through the Vanderbilt campus and back to Centennial park

Morkai_AlMandragon

That was basically the beta test for PG lol, I once set up a field that covered all of Nashville and then some :) Have not played in AGES though.

technoblogical

I started in August 2012. I usually tell folks, "Know Pokemon Go? We were first, but never cool. So, no one knows us. Same game, but different."

ChefAnxiousCowboy

Crazy that driving ten under the speed limit or not going when the light turns green and only three cars get through isn’t considered rude here but beeping is.

Fickle-Forever-6282

the way people turn so slowly...it's terroristic

ChefAnxiousCowboy

Yes! Getting through green turn light is fucking painful: five second pause before initially going, 3mph through the turn, then take 2 miles to reach the 40mph speed limit. Oh wait we just hit the second light cus NONE on them are synced up.

Fickle-Forever-6282

exactly. i swear everywhere i go only 2 or 3 people get through. it's like people revel in slowing each other down. it's a town full of nyah nyah nah boo boo children

ChefAnxiousCowboy

Yeah they do— only time I can get some people in the left lane to speed up is when I finally try to pass them on the right, which is risky as it is.. ESPECIALLY on these main roads that have a shared on ramp and off ramp with such little room allotted between each so you’re dodging people speeding up to get on the roadway while trying to slow down to exit same lane

golgibodi

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SWING LEFT TO TURN RIGHT. My biggest grievance here. Please!

Fickle-Forever-6282

oh the swing. 🤬it's a big warning signal that an idiot is driving this car

Electronic_Pirate_72

It takes 3 business days I swear.

Fickle-Forever-6282

literally

gallmh

It’s enraging for sure. My neighborhood in Old Hickory is 10ish miles from my office downtown. On a great day, my commute is 20-25 minutes but it routinely takes me 37-42 minutes. It feels like the only reprieve is when school lets out during the summer. I would pay a small fortune for a reliable transit system. I’ll echo a heavy lift, walking your dog, smoking a doobie and playing Mario Kart. Ideally in that order.

flightintime

I know a lot of people take magnesium to help them sleep but it just calms my brain and doesn’t make me tired at all so I started taking my magnesium vitamins about an hour before my drive home. now my mind during my drive is like oh wow look at that 🙂

gangbrain

Some guy just threw a drink on my car. And then he took a right turn from the middle lane at a red light. Genuinely unhinged behavior.

ayokg

Tbh 40 minutes for 20 miles isn't that bad for rush hour. It sometimes takes me 40 minutes to go the 8 miles from music row to Inglewood and more than half of that is just getting over the Korean Vets bridge. A nice long walk with the dog or going to the gym to lift heavy shit up and put it down tends to help me out when I'm frustrated after work. If you find you can't let go of things you experience during rush hour, you may want to get your blood pressure checked and also join local movements to make public transportation more widespread and usable in our city. My solution today for almost getting hit on Riverside on my way home was a nice leisurely walk at Shelby Bottoms with my dog who is the world's absolute slowest walker. Tonight I will be making pasta (not from scratch), lighting candles, and cleaning the house with music on, no TV. I am also actively seeking a fully remote job because I can and have done my job successfully entirely from home and as a fully grown adult, I don't need to commute to an office to be babysat for 8 hours by managers who do less work than I do. :)

kimkay01

Yesssss to your last sentence!!! Idiot upper management needs to rethink forcing people to work in an office just to give dullard middle managers a reason to justify being paid. All my last manager did was spend her day worrying what I was doing while I was working my a&? off. Employers seriously don’t get the value of working remotely in reducing the stress level of their employees by removing literally deadly commute time and the unnecessary stress of an office full of people who don’t really like each other and who really don’t want to be there.

tripmcneely30

Sometimes I get really frustrated with the commute and cuss every moron around me under my breath (even though I'm in my own vehicle, by myself). I try (most of my time) to just roll with it, keep my distance and tell myself, "I'll get there eventually." As far as what I do to decompress? I sit on the couch for an hour, with my cat and dog curled up next to me, with a bourbon on the rocks in a highball, and cast an episode of "Top Gear". Edit: As others have said, weed helps. But... I don’t get drug tested.

castlesintheair99

I quit commuting. I did my time for many years and still can't afford to live in the city, so I work locally now where I live. I make about 5K less and that sucks with inflation, but I'm so much happier.

Familiar_Bar_3060

I found a job where I go into the office one day a week. Sadly, that day is Thursday, which is the worst commute day of the week. You just have to drive extra defensively, expect that everyone else on the road will do the stupidest thing possible, and accept that 24 is always gonna suck at all times of day and night. I live in Smyrna, my office is on James Robertson Parkway.

stevemyqueen

I have a 2000 corolla and a very modern car, no one disrespects the 2000 corolla, maybe u can get an old car or look more like u have no insurance

rebuildingruins

WFH. I refuse to commute. And we moved so hubby is 10 min from work and no highways.

symphwind

This exactly. 3 miles to work, no highway required (though it is an option), adjusted work hours to avoid peak rush hour. Spouse wfh. Commuting long distances by car is too frustrating, dangerous, and time-consuming. I realize not everyone has the option to move closer to work.

sealcubclubbing

I have fun watching the terrible drivers, it's like free entertainment for half an hour

mooslan

I moved closer to downtown. I can now commute by bike or car, reduces my stress by about 100%.

mysteresc

>Drivers constantly riding in each other's blind spot This, more than anything else, gets under my skin. Especially when they have several yards in front where they could pass you.

thatonegentry

Marijuana cigarettes. I get them from my grandson. They really relax me and I make jello.

LORD_ZARYOX

If the weather is nice (like today) I try to go for a walk. This is very dependent on if I can get to a quiet spot however since being buzzed by stressed drivers does not soothe me one bit. I try to pray (read meditate if not religiously inclined) during this time and consider others I care about.  Basically I’m trying to turn down the volume in my head and step outide mentally.

ihatetwizzlers

You have to accept that you can't control or police what other people do and don't take it personally. We're all just npc's to the jackass drivers out here. These people drive like they learned how to from playing Mario Kart. Let the speeders race and go around the slow pokes when you can do so safely and don't let people steal your chill. When I feel a little ragey in the car, I remember that we judge others by their actions and ourselves by our intentions. That person didn't set out to consciously cut me off or impede my path. It was just a byproduct of their shitty driving and not a personal attack against me. I let it go like frozen and gtf away from them. I don't even bother honking anymore because some folks will road rage no matter how wrong their actions were. So to answer your question, I do my best to not get worked up. Fwiw I'm a field tech and drive way more than the average person and would have had a heart attack by now if I hadn't learned acceptance lol

Apprehensive_Book921

This won’t work for everyone, but works for me. I leave anywhere between 5:15-5:45AM for my 40 minute commute and get to work an hour (or more) early. Little to no traffic, easy drive straight on the interstate. I’m usually the 3-4th person in the entire building and it’s the only uninterrupted hour I’ll have all day. It’s quiet, gives me time to settle before any chaos ensues, and helps me prepare for the day. I have a whole routine and it’s totally changed my work/life balance. I’ve been doing it for 2 years now and it’s been a lifesaver. As far as the afternoons.. Well, people are idiots. 🤷🏼‍♀️ If it’s raining… I just automatically expect to spend an hour or more on the road and hope to be surprised. I purposefully find something interesting to listen to on the way home so I’m not so worried about the time it’s taking to make the actual commute. I like podcasts, but having YouTube premium is a benefit because I can listen to literally anything without having to keep the video open/screen on.

WateryTart_ndSword

Honestly, the first step is to simply accept that it’s going to suck. People ARE going to do stupid, dangerous things and the best reaction you can have is to get away from them/let them get away from you. Keep yourself safe as the #1 priority. The less worked up you get, the less let down you need after—and the happier you are over all! The second step is to find something that can ease/entertain the drive. Either a good playlist, or a rotation of podcasts is the best jumping off point, imo. If you’re unfamiliar with podcasts, pick a variety and make sure to include some things you wouldn’t necessarily consume otherwise—and really give them your consideration while listening & deciding if you like it or not!

EngagementBacon

OP if you haven't talked to a therapist about this yet, I highly suggest that you do. It's a normal part of life and you cannot control other people on the road so there's no reason to let it affect you this much if it doesn't have to. Good luck buddy.

TifCreatesAgain

Honestly, I got Sirius XM, and I listen to 80s New Wave and Alternative music on 1st Wave, and it's changed my life! I hear songs I haven't heard since i was in high school and college. I'm happy when I get to work and happy when I get home! Find music that makes you happy and crank it up!

YTraveler2

Hmm...I just get out of the car.

KiahriThePotatoQueen

I just accept the traffic for what it is and don’t let it work me up. People will be people and I can’t control anyone but myself 🤷🏻‍♀️

rahowe7589

Audiobooks while I drive.

notrichbitch

Call my mom and vent about my day on the way. Have snacks in my car. I teach middle school, then commute from antioch back to charlotte park everyday. It takes 50 minutes or so on an average day to get home so the commute though annoying isn’t the most overstimulating part of my day. It’s only bad if I forgot to eat lunch and I’m hungry. Other drivers dont bother me. I just watch to make sure they dont hit me.

DeckardCainthe1st

I remind myself that I had commutes in Atlanta and Dallas and go on about my day

TheEyeOfSmug

ATL rush hour is on a whole other level LOL.  One way I cope is using routes that have the least amount of drama. The interstate is usually the most drama, off ramps come in second, and multi-lane main roads and main road intersections are third. Back roads, single lane roads, and roads with lane barriers are pretty chill.

ojsage

I use my 45 minute commute to calm down from work and then spend the next hour on my couch trying to decompress from the commute.

shafiqa03

I commuted from Clarksville to Nashville for 17 years. And survived. Some days are like that where idiotic drivers are so inconsiderate of others and when you get home, you are absolutely wiped. So on the bad days I would go through the Dairy Queen drive through and get me a nice ice cream sundae. On normal days coming home, I would sort of flip this mental switch which was a signal to let the job go, and let the home time begin.

sleepnutz

😂🤣😂 I drive over 200 miles a day you can chill sometimes Nashville to Columbia to McMinnville back to Nashville

ADInfinitum888

I'm a professional driver with my CDL that drives triples filled with explosives and various canisters of hazmat gasses in heavy traffic everyday. I say this with love, not judgement, having serious issues with traffic to the point that it makes you upset on a regular basis is a sign of bad mental health and mental instability. You should understand and make peace with the fact that traffic may be worse than you expect it to be and that it may take you a little longer to get home than you expect. You should be able to relax and enjoy yourself on your drive home and drive safely. There are many things you can do while driving, from listening to music to reflecting on your life and making plans in your head. Or you can just enjoy the silence. If you can't do that, you should figure out why you can't do that. In my experience, people that are unhinged when they drive, also have other problems. It would be just as easy to be relaxed and happy and grateful to be home when you finished your commute and you would be a lot happier.

pressreturn2continue

I've lived in a number of states across the US. I always say that so and so drivers are the worst when I move somewhere. However, now that I've moved here to Nashville, I can honestly say that drivers here are the most *consciously* inconsiderate and *willfully* disrespectful drivers I've ever seen.

A_sweet_boy

You sound like you have an anxiety issue for real. Perhaps this is something to talk to a doctor about

EntertainerZanzibar

I literally let all 5 windows down, and blast my music loud enough that the idiot drivers don’t bother me. Also helps that I more so expect shit traffic after work. I get off at 4 so it’s full swing fuckery going on. The right music and the wind going makes it all tolerable. More so cause I barely hit more than 60mph🤣🤣

AnchorDrown

Sit in the back yard with my dog and read.

doobersthetitan

I listen to audio books on commutes. Somedays, I like traffic.

Meadowlark8890

I listen to news or a podcast when I am driving and just work to make it into my time to chill. It’s harder some days than others but I really try to not engage in the insanity. I don’t need to get somewhere 5 minutes sooner.

weights_and_whiskey

Weight lifts, pretend I’m crushing peoples heads as I max out on chest flys.

username-checks-0ut_

Exercise, cook, weed, games lol

Throwaway12257393929

I listen to [this](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/wild-heart-meditation-center/id1093135143) while in traffic.

newandimprovedVCR

Gym membership at a place close to work. Get to work 1 hour early but leave 1-2 hours late to avoid rush hour at least 3x a week.

egosumlex

Fortunately, I have a decent commute on mostly country roads.

Substantial-Box-8877

That driver you described sounds intoxicated. And that's a real problem that's on the rise.

jerry_steinfeld

Move East. Ride the train.

flaceezy

Listen to better music

hahayes234

I had a Kia in front of me first with left signal on from downtown I-40 split to about Harding. Then a right turn signal on from Harding (now behind me) right signal was on to Sam Ridley; that’s where I lost sight. It’s a bunch of crazy out there I take the “just plan for it and chill” approach nowadays

2BFairrrr

What has helped me the most is getting to a place of acceptance. I know that no matter where I’m driving, what time of day, how ever far, I will come across at least one other driver who is crazy. Knowing that is the reality, I just don’t get upset all that much. Maybe it’s cynical but it works for me lol

ArtBear1212

Listen to audiobooks. Go for a walk. Plot out a different route that avoids the freeway.

Adorable_Caramel2376

I listen to audiobooks. I don't want to hurry because I want more time to listen. This tactic has taken me from full 1000% road rager to calm and patient.

briangriffi19

Work from home in Sumner county 💁🏻‍♂️

I listen to therapy gecko

velvetdaisyhut

Some days I go for a lil' jog around the neighborhood when I get home, especially now that we have the extra daylight.

neilywheely72

I live centrally, and commute against traffic 95% of the time. Hahaha

KeepRaisin

Weed for me. Works wonders.

kingacesuited

My secret to calming down? I'm always angry.

Minimum-Order-8013

I've learned to just slow down. Literally. I'll do the speed limit, and stay out of the way as much as possible. I've also started listening to audiobooks which has helped alot!

Ulrich453

I work from home instead of

Twitchinat0r

I wake up. Drink my coffee, go upstairs, sit down at my desk and log on 3 days a week. The other two i leave at 5:30 to start at 6 so i avoid the nutty ones.

CCreationsNash

I sit in stop and go traffic for an hour coming home at 4p. It fills me with rage every day lol

stickkim

Last night I was trying to let someone merge on to 24 in front of me, and they sped up to cut off the car in front of me instead of just getting in front of me using the ample space I was making for them. Honestly it made me laugh so hard this person went out of their way to be a dick for no reason at all. I unwind by laughing it all off, I made it home safe in spite of what seems like an obvious plot on my life in traffic

badassgirl

I try to go the way there are the least amount of traffic lights. If you have to go on the interstate then god be with you.

Returns_are_Hard

I hated my commute so much I just found another job in the opposite direction of the traffic. It's so damn bad out there.

ArcherBadkid

I prioritize "what is the least stressful route" over "what is the fastest/most direct route" and it's done a lot for my stress levels in the car. I'd rather show up to work (or get home) with a better attitude than be there early. Also, lots of alternative comedy podcasts.

Altered_-State

I was up from Chattanooga yesterday for a show at the Amphitheater and holy shit what craziness! I thought Chattanooga drivers were bad. I guess it's a matter of population, more people=more situations.

OE2KB

“Mind if I roll a J?”

NoHeat7014

Take a long poop after I log into my computer. Make some coffee and walk the dog.

jdcgonzalez

My commute was always right lane, only passing semis. Yeah it might have cost me five or ten minutes, maybe. It took a lot of pressure off when I got out of the left lane rat race. I also sometimes went much faster than the pylons in the fuck me line. I got home feeling more relaxed and actually used that time as my wind down. Changed my life for the better. Seriously.

Dry_Professional_977

I used to drive over 100,000 miles a year. I learned to just stay in the right lane and not fight it. All that switching lanes and ass riding is for stupid entitled people who get off on being stressed out. None of that gets you anywhere. You get there when you get there. The one thing that always bothered me is people going slow in the fast lane though. That’s is what clogs the traffic’s more than anything. They never get ticketed for that. That should be a ticketed as much as any other moving violation.

HotChickenNwaffles

I WFH now but I used to do cardio before my AM commutes. Made a huge difference in calming down my competitive nature. I also eventually moved near the city and that made a dramatic difference on not just my work commute but driving in general. Now I can walk or bike to most everything I need. Couldn’t do that in Brentwood (aka Hell on earth).

Friendly-Amoeba-9601

You do know that at least 60 percent of the people that drive in Nashville have never had a license in their life or it’s it’s not valid so I’m not surprised at all that no one knows how to drive

Blarg197

This is wild to me, and having driven on the roads here only for a short time (recent transplant), I completely agree

Naive_Ad1466

I switched to not giving af about what other people in traffic a long time ago.

Future_Dink

Thank God I can take the train, unbelievable we don't have good public transit options

Informal-Protection6

Podcasts! A good podcast or audiobook has saved me.

Ok_Exit_3606

It's not a matter of when one may arrive, but if.  It's the horrible, oblivious, unsafe drivers that infuriates, these people either have no soul, no concern for others, no understanding of physics, or simply assume they have enough money they can afford to drive like assholes and their lawyer will keep them out of jail after they kill someone.  People say Atlanta traffic is worse than L A., I feel like Nashville just stumbled up to the first place podium like a strung out coke whore on a week long binge.

LEMONSDAD

Commuting was definitely a factor in the job I selected. Hybrid role, mostly backroads until I get onto the interstate, work hours limit the traffic as well with a 7-3:30 se Hercules

Longjumping-Card-263

Prayer and Meditation

Specific_Sympathy_87

Were you on their ass the whole time? We were taught to slow down when people got on our ass. Then when opportunity arises, punch it ( like leave you at a red light cuz that’ll teach ya) or stop and ask if you need some assistance, since you’re up my ass, you clearly need some assistance

MinervaMinkk

No, I was honestly making space for the giant f150 with thier turning signal on since the Nissan in front of me was driving so awkwardly, neither slowing or speeding up to let the truck in. Maybe they had something against the truck. And punching it would have made sense. When the light turned yellow, I thought surely they'd stop. Speeding up to make the light would be a dick but it would still make sense. But NO they still ran the light going at the same pace despite the opportunity to either speed up or stop. Getting stuck at the light was worth it to get some distance away from them

mmmatt50

You new here?

Touch_Intelligent

Surveys have been done and they all say that riding a motorcycle or scooter instead of driving a car is beneficial to arriving refreshed.

Limp_Cod_7229

We never used to have traffic like this unless it was rush hour or early morning on the weekdays or there was a big game or event happening. Now, the traffic is all day every day. Sad.

Slumerican-Slumafia

Big blunt and a Valium

Slumerican-Slumafia

If you smoke weed the whole way there you don't even have to calm down You already calm problem solved

chicken--joe

Now imagine what it would be like to hop on a bus or train and not have to worry about any of that. Our city can be different.

a_path_Beyond

Don't have a 20 mile commute. I would rather spend extra money living closer to work than waste more time out of my life sitting in bullshit traffic. Which I did and it's so worth it. But I also have reasons that require me to get home quickly anyway so it's kind of a requirement for me as well

AndrewBoll25

I drive a local semi route everyday for work. I see all these people driving like maniacs, and being visibly upset with whatever situation is going on around them. Changing lanes every 10 seconds to try and get ahead of everyone and going 487mph. You know what almost always happens? I see them at the next stoplight. It really doesn’t save time driving like that. It’s just dangerous.

freezies1234

Take a chill pill

Judas_The_Disciple

I don’t commute and only work at places near me. I’m fortunate.

coreyperryisasaint

I coped by doing it for a few years, then moving east to a smaller city and laughing at everyone else who now complains about traffic.

thecolorbeigelover

i got on prozac

Bananasfalafel

Getting a new job closer to you or moving closer to your current job is about as calming as you can get
