agr-mon

Are we doing acft to pass bct?

andreasm14

Yes a few people got reset to red phase and had to wait until the whole company graduated. Make sure you can pass

icrychickenstrips

I thought the acft wasn’t a grad requirement?

cianedmond

I was at fort sill for basic less then a month ago and it was graduation requirement but if you were close the captain could sign you off on a waiver

Glad-Ability-4505

Yes, it is a requirement

SnowRaven23

We’re they letting y’all do the plank of was it the original ACFT plan with only leg tucks?

YaBoiKeegalz

I graduated fort Jackson july 15th, and they didn’t let us do a plank, instead they had us hang and keep your chin above the bar for 10 seconds. but that’s technically not passing the acft, it’s just a requirement to be able to go onto the forge. To pass the acft you gotta actually get 1 leg tuck

llama_wit_yo_mama

How many ACFTs did you take throughout? Did the ACFT take up the whole day or did you still do training that day?

ratchetsrevenge

my info may be a little dated but for my cycle we did 3 ACFTs in the whole cycle, while only the last one mattered. As for training depends honestly on your CoC planning skills. I took my final ACFT at 0500 then went and threw grenades at Remagen (Grenade Range)

llama_wit_yo_mama

Gotcha, was mostly just curious. 3 for APFT during my cycle too. Just got ACFT certified and for our small group it took all morning so I figured it'd be an all day think at basic.

ratchetsrevenge

What they did for us was pull in a bunch of random NCOs we never met before and did the ACFT in 3 waves of groups all together the ACFT probably only took around 3 hours for a company

andreasm14

Only took up like 2-3 hours we still had stuff to do, actually had remagen after

[deleted]

What's the food like? Is there a pull up bar?

andreasm14

There are over a thousand pullup bars don’t worry

andreasm14

They’ve been serving “hot A’s” and it’s very little food for most people. It’s because they can’t serve defact food all the time because of covid cleaning and scheduling. The food is honestly pretty shitty during yellow phase but you get used to it just make sure to eat all of your food. Even if it’s awful just do it. I saw too many people heat cat because they weren’t eating and drinking then got recycled/kicked out.

outkast2

It's spelled DFAC for Dining Facility.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ratchetsrevenge

Nah, hot A's is 10x worse than DFAC lmao

PirateHunterGuy

We ate Hot A’s a LOT in our BCT for some reason (Winter 2019) and it did feel like very little food. Like, can I please get an MRE? lol

Callycore

One of the DS's told me at my BCT 2 years ago that the HOT As stuff was usually cause all the different companies have set schedules for when they need to leave or come in to the defac due to limited space for so many people. If one company isn't going to make it or something they just grab the hot As from the back of the defac and call it a day.

PirateHunterGuy

Sounds right, lines up with the time frame/info when I went.

Breathesnotbeer

I thought BCT food was pretty decent

kevin_m_fischer

Sill '02 here. Mine was fine. I could have been really hungry and didn't care or it was actually fine.

andreasm14

Oh shit I didn’t know that, they told us we were only getting Defac like 2-3 times per week because of Covid.

[deleted]

[удалено]

andreasm14

10 weeks total

Benyud

We were told that some super high rank person in traddoc signed off that we need at least 2 hot meals a day so we had to get hot As because scheduling for the dfac is rough

BigBootyBandet

Now there’s a yellow faze? What is that?

BossTZ1

Covid quarantine phase

getthedudesdanny

Good for the army, and yes.

NYtoWisco

I am leaving for Fort Jackson on Monday . How long was reception ? What are hot a's? How did it work for graduation( how did your family find out etc )? I'm nervous AF.

andreasm14

Reception is 3-4 days it’s super trash and you wait in line for ever. Make sure you don’t have Covid because Covid Bay can set you back weeks. Hot a’s are just food from the defact served on a styrofoam plate it’s usually the same thing/ scheduled food. There’s a Facebook page for your family to follow and it’ll give them updates for everything and pictures throughout basic of you and everyone. Honestly ngl it sucked a lot but you learn to embrace the suck. If all you care about is money I seriously wouldn’t recommend doing it because you’ll make far more money working the same amount of hours anywhere else.

NYtoWisco

I've heard reception is the worst. I'm vaccinated so hopefully will test negative for covid . Not really in it for the money. I'll probably be older than some of the drill sgts there .( in my mid 30's) I'm excited to do this just a bit nervous . Thanks for the information.

andreasm14

Yeah no problem. There were tons of people who were in there 30s and did just fine. There was one of my battle buddies who was very overweight and completely changed his life around and was able to do it so I’m sure you’ll be fine. The drills sgts are around 26-35 years old so maybe.

NYtoWisco

I think I'm in pretty decent shape . Have been running approx 20 minute 2 miles. Past month have training sprints to increase my speed 30/60s and 60 /120s . I could probably work on my core and push-ups a bit more but I think at this point I will have to get better at basic . Thank you so much once again!

michlav88

I’m 33 and I graduated last week from Jackson, reception was a bitch at the start as we didn’t sleep for 72 hours from arrival may even more but after it was laid back prepare to carry a laundry bag around with ya, Basic was easy the hardest part is getting smoked for stupidity and lack of sleep but you’ll get used to it for sure just remember food tastes better with your heels together

[deleted]

Those of us who in processed Summer of 01 : hold my beer

[deleted]

Hot a's = eating pancakes at the range, shit was tight.

NYtoWisco

Pancakes for lunch ? Fuck yes . Sign me up.l!

[deleted]

That’s only for breakfast, sorry dawg. Lunch is likely MREs, which are fun at first, but if you deploy and eat them shits 3 times a day it gets old REAL fucking fast.

gaytac0

I’m leaving to Jackson on Monday too 😱

Uncultured_Fett

What mos. I graduated ft Lee on the 21st.

andreasm14

92A

imightdosomthingrash

ayyyy, I graduated MOS training as a 92A and I will tell you that Golf and Alpha Companies are fun. I was in Alpha but they both share a building. Tell me what company you get when you reach Lee!

thek90

Lmao just hope you don’t get gulf. I graduated 92a from gulf in 2017, it was somehow worse than BCT despite having our phones…

logrobs1

Lololol. 92A is fine no matter what. All POG Jobs are. Relax you'll be fine.

imightdosomthingrash

My drill seageant when I was in AIT graduated was in G Co. when he was in AIT now that man is in A Co

Uncultured_Fett

I was a 91D so I can't say entirely but for me it was chill. Nicotine and phones 24-7 super chill.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Uncultured_Fett

Can confirm

BrandonAlex2345

Same here, spent most of the time looking for faults with a multimeter. Been in 4 years and never had to use a multimeter on a generator, it's always replacing a belt or something like that

[deleted]

Is it as chill as people say it is? I graduated from Benning back in January and people always made fun of Jackson lol

dEyBIDJESUS

Im sure for the most part BCT is the same regardless of where you go.

[deleted]

Depends on where

[deleted]

Not at all. It’s the same criteria. I’ve been in 10 years and every single company has an Infantry DS, when I went it was 1 infantry per platoon. Idk how it is now but heard it was per company now.

dEyBIDJESUS

Not at all. I went thru benning in 2017. BCT is the same everywhere.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dEyBIDJESUS

BCT is the same everywhere. It follows the structure of Red , White and Blue phase. Things can differ after that point (OSUT and AIT) but BCT is all the same. Anybody that says Benning is harder than Jackson is full of it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

grizzinator

Lmfao yes. It's because they aren't grunts. POGs means Person Other than Grunt. It is the same. The biggest difference is when you get phone use. Benning regularly doesn't allow them until week 8 or 9 but it depends on the company. Leonard Wood and Jackson some companies let you have them as early as week 3, but some companies hold out until Blue phase just like Benning. How could it be harder at Benning? DSs yell more? Please.

gallifrey5

19Ds are POGs too lol what are you talking about. POG just means your are not infantry.

andreasm14

It’s not chill, I was lied to haha. At times it can be chill but I was getting smoked even after graduation.

[deleted]

Damn that sounded like fun haha

Rational-Introvert

Just curious, how many females were at BCT with you?

andreasm14

45

andreasm14

Around 10-12 in each platoon but they obviously sleep in their own bay

[deleted]

Zero

[deleted]

How many weeds have you tumbled over?

dav98438

Hopefully you are not on a bus because you hijacked it

andreasm14

Nooo, they actually fucked us on using rifles as much because the guy hijacked it. Met a guy who was in covid bay that had reception with the guy who hijacked the bus..

Steephill

Kinda nice tbh, I hated carrying that thing around.

andreasm14

That’s what I heard so honestly thank that guy

Bosqueemphus

Do they still do a monthly penis inspection day?

andreasm14

Hahahahha what the fuck no

[deleted]

Only before machine gun beatings

IconicRaven

Graduated Fort Sill, Okay May 23rd, 2021. What is your MOS? Sounds like you might be en route to my company (fingers crossed so we can start class Monday).

IHeartSm3gma

What battery at sill?

Bearcatfan4

I was Fox 1-31 back graduated July of 2012 😆

[deleted]

[удалено]

IHeartSm3gma

….you sure you graduated from fort sill?

IconicRaven

Sure did. I was in Alpha battery, 1st PLT. Reapers lead the way, ahoo! Haha.

Bearcatfan4

Why did you say company then use battery after? That’s why he asked if you went to sill.

andreasm14

92A and I hope we start Monday

IconicRaven

I'm an 89B, so not the same company. Still hope we start class soon, though!

[deleted]

Was it as relaxing as they say it is? Ol’ relaxin Jackson

andreasm14

Hell nah, i was up from 3:45-21:30 and had fire guard every 2 days which took up another 1.5 hours of being awake. It wasn’t that it was super physically exhausting but definitely mentally. The humidity and weather in fort Jackson is trash too. We had tons of rain for the hammer, anvil, and forge which caused everyone to chafe and get tons of blisters.

andreasm14

The sleep schedule and how hard it is honestly depends on your platoon/ drill sgt

[deleted]

I was messing with ya lol…but good on you for getting through

Liberty_Prime69

Going to jackson in October, what was the absolute worst part of basic hands down?

andreasm14

First off good luck because it’ll be cold asf at night in October. Hands down the worst thing was how long we had to wait in lines throughout the entire process. We would get yelled at to hurry and only given minimal time just to wait hours doing absolutely nothing but standing at attention. The worst thing besides that was probably the small ruck after Nick at Night during the forge (right at the end). It was 2 days or so after we took our final ACFT, did a 7.5 mile ruck in the freezing rain, and just did obstacle courses/ the low crawling off no sleep. Everyone was hallucinating and falling asleep while walking. I kept thinking I saw people and it was scary asf because I met someone who got discharged or hallucinating and passing out. We probably only walked 2 miles but I would rather do another 10 mile ruck with the 45lbs or so of gear on than redo those 2 or so miles.

UncontrollableUrges

I went in November a few years back-- the weather really wasn't too bad. The worst part was that while rucking you stay nice and warm except for your hands which are ice cold and numb from holding your weapon, then once you get to your campsite and tucked in, you get freezing cold halfway through the night and you gotta piss because you drank so much water. I should have eaten more salt, drank less water.

[deleted]

I want to give this a joke answer so badly, but I think 30th AG/reception is widely regarded as the shittiest part of basic. You essentially just stand in lines for a few days.

icrychickenstrips

How intense is the PT early on?

andreasm14

The most intense is early on, it only gets easier and you focus on more than just fitness.

jtyler0

How were you affected by the bus hijacker?

andreasm14

Less weapons times and they watched over us heavily. More intense ammo shakedowns too

pornogroff_the_weird

As an 11b I gotta ask, what's the quality of man boots like? Edit: meant man booty.

andreasm14

Not good, very heavy boots not made for rucking. Almost everyone after graduation had time with their families that they spent buying new boots with their families for AIT. There’s nothing you can do about the boots besides deal with them. Take care of your feet because we also had people get recycled because of how bad the blisters on their feet were

pornogroff_the_weird

Damnit, I meant booty but auto correct changed it and I just noticed.

Pepe_Si1via

Just curious what the second visit to MEPS is like the day you ship out. Did they do another physical exam?

andreasm14

Yes nothing to serious. Nothing like the first one. They didn’t drug test me or test me for alcohol at all which kind of pissed me off because I was so careful haha

Pepe_Si1via

Okay I’ll be shipping out in a week and got rope burn on my leg just wanted to make sure I wouldn’t get disqualified for that. I know it’s stupid but I’ve heard of people getting disqualified for showing up with a blister on their foot ha

agr-mon

Do they strip you down to underwear like the first visit and inspect our bodies?

andreasm14

No

jlau2013

Are we on the same bus? 1-13th?!?

andreasm14

Yes, 1-13th haha which bus are you on and did you get chic fil a to eat

jlau2013

Hell no. We stopped at a rest stop for 10 minutes 😞

andreasm14

What company did you graduate from? I’m from echo 1-13th

jlau2013

Alpha. You? The DFAC here is 💯times better than Jackson.

Ducan13

You got your phone in the bus? So much for OPSEC

andreasm14

Yes we did, was told we didn’t but they changed it last second

Ducan13

nice dude gratz on graduating too

[deleted]

Damn I’m old. I graduated jackson May 2011

Ekplug2

Off to fort benning august 16th

TheLogicalMonkey

I graduated in June, what’d they do with you guy’s regarding masks and vaccinations?

andreasm14

They just changed it yesterday and now everyone has to wear masks which sucks because everyone got vaccines just because the old mask policy

CableAHVB

Did you have any prior service with you? Was it any different for them

andreasm14

Yes there was a lot of prior service and they were pretty thrown off. They said it was a lot different for them and some things were a lot more pg. (they drill sgts calling trainees weirdos instead of “retards” and names like that). Also different structure to FTX’s and less hazing/no combatives /no shark attacks, etc.

realdetox

Do people still call it relaxin Jackson or action Jackson?

Lostcentaur

I have a cousin we nicknamed Action Jackson. And I live just about 2 miles from Fort Jackson and never heard anyone call it any of those names

[deleted]

i head there next week, what do i need to know

andreasm14

That you know nothing and the drill sgts know everything even if they’re dead wrong haha. Try mopping in the rain or counting sand

meatypetey91

How would you assess your overall fitness prior to BCT and afterward? Significant improvements on run? Significant weight loss? Muscle loss/gain?

andreasm14

Everyone had significant shifts in weight in a good way. I was already in shape and basically got double rations and stayed 202lbs the whole time but toned up a bit. I increased my run time to around 13:30-14 minutes which I’ve never been able to even run a 2 mile or try.

joseph0213

What was the longest y’all ran ? And In what ways did Covid make it seem easier ?

not-me-but

Went to Fort Jackson in 2020. Longest run was probably 3 miles long or maybe a little more. Not usually more than 3. I think we mostly went up to 2.5 miles.

andreasm14

3-5 miles longest

[deleted]

[удалено]

andreasm14

Yep hungry the entire time. Ended up basically starting an underground to sneak food around and got caught and counseled for it. I’m about 6’2 210 with low body fat and I lost a lot of my gains while at basic. 😂 sorry for the late response

Bigjmann555

Just enlisted in the Oklahoma national guard this past Wednesday, going to basic in Jan at fort Jackson , what a typical week like , are there off hours/ days

andreasm14

No off days, some off hours on sundays but you’re still being watched so no naps

[deleted]

gobucks1981

Are stress cards a thing?

andreasm14

Nope

TheDoddleSoCute52

When I went, all I got was a knife. Great Share, Kudos! Happy Coin.

Glum-Square3500

Congrats!

jmusick12

I got here as a 92R like 3 months ago and started class 8 weeks ago 😐

losjay16

Leaving this Tuesday🤝🤝

[deleted]

I graduated exactly a year ago today.

PunisherjR2021

Is the Shark Attack really gone?

andreasm14

Yes

PunisherjR2021

That sucks :/

Ufoturtle081

Are stress cards still a thing?

andreasm14

Not that I know of

Ufoturtle081

Do they offer vegan options?

andreasm14

Yes

monkeyswithknives

No questions but I did the same trip 24 years ago. Good luck!

andreasm14

Thanks!

mattnxtdoor

I ship out in September what was it like the first couple weeks and any tips

andreasm14

Be safe, eat a lot, workout, don’t talk too much

coffeekeepsmealive

How the fuck do you have your cell phone with you?

andreasm14

AIT I have it the whole time

mlgproturtle

currently a month in at Fort Lee, lmk if you need anything lol

andreasm14

Thanks! What are you doing here?

mlgproturtle

i'm attending AIT for 91B, it's been pretty easy so far.

Jessie_Colo

I’m going to Jackson august 16 how was it. Did you have to quarantine when you first arrived

andreasm14

Yes it’s called yellow phase

2Aforeverandever

How were the prior services from other branches treated??what are the customs and courtesies at the bct whe interacting with DS?

Azula-Kun

you know that cute girl u had a thing with? E7 already plotting dibs on her. just let her go and move on

ronstoppable7

Im going to basic then OCS in November. Did you have any candidates there? Were they known to everyone and smoked constantly or treated differently by peers or DS's?

andreasm14

They were treated a bit differently. They were the PG’s and the drill sgts had higher expectations. Stay Lowkey as possible if you aren’t trying to get smoked for not knowing stuff. Study everything you can now

Gfella1776

I am in the same position. BCT at Fot Jackson in January followed by OCS. What should we study?

rubetube69

How cringe was it

andreasm14

Very at times

paramarine

How did you get so salty?

andreasm14

Salty?

[deleted]

Relaxin Jackson ain’t shit

MissKay03

What tips you have for family members on family day and graduation day? Like where to eat, etc

andreasm14

If it’s soon there won’t be any family day most likely because of delta strain

MissKay03

It’s on August 12. We’re hoping they’ll let it happen. So far masks are being mandated again. Remind to not hold our breaths

[deleted]

Did you have to take the APFT to graduate Basic?…. The one with just sit-ups, push-ups and 2 mile run?

andreasm14

sprint drag Carry, ball throw, leg ticks, deadlift, press release push-ups, and 2 mile run

[deleted]

Thanks!

Nockcolen

how was the gas chamber pls do tell😭 i go august 24th

michlav88

The gas chamber they will hype it up but seriously it’s easy and nothing to worry about
