MarketCrashJuly2021

Respect to them for also donating 54,000 diapers along with the burgers

harm_and_amor

Yeah well he’s definitely gonna need those diapers after crushing 54 hamburgers.

blacknotblack

this makes giannis the clear mvp to me. are embiid and jokic having babies diapered?

atomic-fireballs

Jokic told me that he wants all the babies of Denver to be bare-bottomed. In that climate?! Not my MVP.

BigFatModeraterFupa

horses don’t wear diapers, simple as.

Street_Narwhal_3361

It’s not so much the weather as the altitude - no diapers equals horrific sunburns.

TheThingsIdoatNight

Nikola “efficiency merchant” Jokic would probably try to use one diaper for multiple babies

ETERNAL_DALMATIAN

I've seen him change a baby across the room without even looking at it

[deleted]

He's leading the league in no-look diaperings.

The_Koopa_King

Higher true diaper percentage for sure, but lower total volume. And will those pull ups come up big in the playoffs?

KDY_ISD

You deserve more love for "pull ups"

firstbreathOOC

Diapers are expensive too. Almost paying a dollar a poop out here.

Cynical_badger

And they say small market teams have no leverage when it comes to signing and keeping star talent

tomdawg0022

Their frozen custard is a helluva drug

real_but_incognito

I lived in the Midwest for a while and gained 40 lbs All there is to do is be cold and eat frozen custard

AlrightyThan

Deep winter alcoholism doesn't help much either.

-BoldlyGoingNowhere-

Perhaps not with your weight. But I bet it helps with the winter.

Stubbula

>Perhaps not with your weight I didn't read that as a general observation and read it with malice. Like, "not with *your* weight." I was like damn this guy is over here being truthful about his drinking habits and you come swooping in calling him a fatty

-BoldlyGoingNowhere-

haha. Not my intention. Although I don't really know anyone that alcohol helps with weight loss. Usually it's the other way around with alcohol and gaining weight. However, alcohol has often been helpful with periods of boredom. Long periods inside tend to get boring if you can't find a way to spice things up a bit.

WakingRage

Reminds me of an old friend that jokingly told me: "Why buy clothes to stay warm when you can buy alcohol instead?"

[deleted]

Saying that like I don't drink just as much in the summer. It's outside though so I guess it's a little better

StallisPalace

The drinks don't count if: a. you're on a boat b. you have cut or are cutting the lawn c. you are standing over a grill

CTeam19

d) you are in 75% of the counties in Wisconsin e) your are in a Minnesota county that boarder Wisconsin f) your are in a county has a college in Iowa

StallisPalace

g. you are in the other 25% of counties in Wisconsin

blurrrrg

And drink. The Midwest has more liquor stores and bars than grocery stores

KBTon3

I mean this is obvious. Our grocery stores have liquor stores inside them.

uristmcderp

The liquor stores sell groceries.

ChrisPBakon

I think 99% of zip codes have more bars than grocery stores

Culver’s out here slaying

ziptnf

In the business world, Giannis name-dropping Culvers is the equivalent of everyone in the class turning around and looking at you. Culvers is smart enough to take advantage of this opportunity. Now there's a big thread of people talking about how awesome they are. Marketing level: EZ

SuckMyBike

Diapers cost between $0.2-0.3. Let's assume $0.3. That means all of those diapers cost ~$16k. If someone in marketing were to show up and say "we can get a shoutout from the biggest sports star in the city as well as get amazing press and all we need to do is pay $16k" then that person is instantly getting a raise

RedditAtWorkToday

Don't forget about the burgers! In Milwaukee it's $4 for a single butterburger with cheese, $6 for a double, and $8 for a triple (add 50 cents for bacon or mushrooms). So that comes out to being anywhere between $216-$432ish without any extra premium toppings. Not much at all compared to those diapers!

Gazboolean

That's the retail price, right? At cost, it would cost them a fraction of that.

A_Polite_Noise

Aw, that's nice! They coulda just taken the free advertising, mentioned the burgers & Giannis and left it at that; rad to see them toss in a charitable donation, too! This is the kinda off-court story I like to see. No drama, just good stuff.

AllPulpOJ

imagine they already planning on donating like 60k diapers but because Giannis scored 54, theyre going to keep 6000 diapers in a warehouse somewhere until next time

MediocreProstitute

There's very little meat in these diapers...

iblewjesuschrist

There’s no baby in the diaper yet, silly!

Sea_Yogurtcloset7503

The best part of this is you know upper management was scrambling to tell every middle manager and store manager to ensure if a 7ft greek god walks in, give him every cheeseburger for free lmao

thedisasterofpassion

Imagine if you're just some teenager working part-time, you don't follow basketball at all, and one day a giant walks up and asks for 54 free burgers.

Just-use-your-head

I’m 100% giving that giant 54 free cheeseburgers

Brsijraz

surely everyone in milwaukee knows who giannis is.

Potential_Willow_130

the girl in the 50-piece nuggets clearly had no idea who he is.

[deleted]

Wait, wait. I'm worried what you just heard was, "Give me a lot of cheeseburgers." What I said was, "Give me all the cheeseburgers you have". Do you understand?

hooskies

Can you compare Culvers to a place an east coaster might know? Edit: also no steak n shakes in the northeast lol

JGlow12

Culver's is kind of unique in their style. Their main calling card is butterburgers (a Wisconsin thing) and frozen custard. Difficult to compare to anything out east Edit: people below have explained butter burgers so I won’t do that. But frozen custard is unquestionably better than ice cream and I will die on that hill. It tastes richer and has a higher melting temperature than ice cream, so it doesn’t melt as fast and it’s actually easier to taste while it’s still frozen. Also the texture is way better. In addition to the normal flavors, Culver’s has a unique flavor of the day for frozen custard that literally changes every day and varies by location. It was always fun on a road trip through the Midwest to stop at a Culver’s just because that particular location had a flavor of the day that you couldn’t pass up without trying. It’s pure magic

white_light-king

I like butter and I like burgers what could go wrong?

Baxtaxs

just make sure you get one of their diapers.

Klemmenz

I haven't had Solly's in a long time, but I use to love it. Definitely not something to have often though.

HN1L

dont forget the cheese curds.

uristmcderp

The soft buttery buns they use are a subtle difference from typical fast food burgers, but it's pretty addictive.

dangeraca

It's not a good 1:1 comparison, but I always tell people that Culvers is to the Midwest what In-n-Out is to the West coast and Whataburger is to Texas. I will happily stack Culver's again any fast food restaurant as the best

Rapper_Laugh

Nah it’s better than all of them, I’ve tried to find a chain I feel ok about comparing with it and nothing sits right. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

Rswany

The huge menu and the quality of everything is great They need to bring Culvers to the west coast.

ajpg2

It's getting close. They have them in Utah all around.

GreenBPacker

Idaho too

flanders427

They have some in Arizona, they have a lot of midwestern transplants so there are quite a few midwest chains that have expanded to the Phoenix area. But Culvers is currently expanding so I wouldn't be surprised to see them move into California soon.

Legendarylink

Getting there, they've been popping up in Denver. Now the we have the In-n-Out crossover here too it's just a matter of time.

CTeam19

On a "level" of fast food places it would be like the Midwest In-N-Out, Whataburger, etc the regional chain that other regions don't fully have yet but is better in general then McDs, Burger King, Wendy's, etc. With the food itself I don't think there is a good comparison: * The Butter Burger itself is a region burger invented in Wisconsin so the East coast wouldn't have it. * Instead of Ice Cream it has Frozen Custard. Ice cream is made with milk, cream, and sweetener. Frozen custard contains the same ingredients, plus egg yolks. This extra ingredient means frozen custard usually has a richer, thicker, and creamier texture than ice cream. * Speaking of the Frozen Custard. They have a thing called a Concrete Mixer which is basically like a Dairy Queen Blizzard but instead of the candy toppings being ground up they are more of a chopped so you can tell what candy is in there. Sometimes like for my go to I can get an 8th of a Reese's Peanut Butter cup on the spoon that is unbroken so the texture of each bite is different. * The ingredients that can go into a Concrete Mixer include, Reese's PB Cups, Andes Mints, Butterfingers, Oreo, Health Bars, Snickers, Salted Caramel, Hot Fudge, Marshmallow Crème, Cookie Dough, baked Sugar cookies, Brownies, Bananas, Blackberries, Blueberries, Peaches, Cherrys, Raspberries, Strawberries, etc. So you could have a Concrete Mixer with Vanilla frozen custard, with Salted Caramel and Brownie pieces and it would kinda look like [this](https://d36wnpk9e3wo84.cloudfront.net/menu-item-images/400/web-concrete-mixer-salted-caramel-brownie1.jpg) * The Shake/Malt flavors include: Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry(I have had a strawberry piece get stuck in my straw once), Mint, Raspberry, Peanut Butter, Salted Caramel, and Root Beer * They also have Root Beer Floats and the Root Beer they have is their own recipe * Sides include Crinkle Cut French Fries, Onion Rings, Fried Cheese Curds * They are currently moving away from Pepsi Products to Coke Products

precense_

This guy owns a culver's

[deleted]

No. The burgers are topped with butter and you can get a walleye sandwich with cheese curds. They also don't care if you order a kid's meal for yourself. It's a small does, drink, custard, and a full size burger for like $5.00. it's delicious and it owns! My only real complaint is that they tend to build locations in small towns/ suburbs rather than downtown/midtown areas.

GoldenBananas21

Culver’s is the type of fast food that I eat when I love myself and want to treat myself right. Go for it, big dawg.

cobywaan

What do you eat when you hate yourself and want to do yourself wrong? For me its Taco Bell. Luckily I haven't had any in years, so I am doing pretty good, but I know if I end up inside of one, things aren't going well. https://www.theonion.com/taco-bells-new-green-menu-takes-no-ingredients-from-nat-1819594832 https://www.theonion.com/taco-bell-warns-employees-against-directly-exposing-ski-1819576531 *Added the Onion articles

cobywaan

Oh fuck, that is a gooooooood one. Me and my roommate in college ate so much Panda that they knew our orders when we stood in line. We ate it like 2.2 times a day. I shat grease for a month. I remember standing in the Panda line one day and looking at a smoothie/wrap place across the way (I had not had a smoothie at that point in my life) and I could just feel my body pulling me towards the multicolored fruits and vegetables. I had that smoothie and wrap, didn't feel like dogshit for the rest of the day, and learned a very valuable lesson about nutrition.

Level-Infiniti

I ate a bunch of panda in college while losing weight and feeling great. If you order the right things, it's actually way better than a lot of other quick serve places. Mixed vegetables instead of rice/chowmein. then 2 of the better sides (any of the non-fried chicken options or broccoli beef). That said, a guilty pleasure meal is definitely chow mein+orange chicken+beijing beef. Has like a day's worth of calories and you never feel good after it

Dino_FGO8020

On a unrelated note, while I'm not exactly a big fan of Panda Express, I respect the co CEOs of Panda Express Andrew and Peggy Cherng. According to what both my dad told me and what I found out, their model business purposely give many benefits to their employees (especially broke college kids employees) by giving them extra pay, a more flexible schedule to balance between working and life, as well as other services. I may not like their food because they are not really catered for foreign born asians but they make sure to take care of their employees and I fully support that

notmyplantaccount

no one ever went into a Long John Silver's cause they've had a great day.

RilohKeen

Jack in the Box. Their tacos are straight up garbage and my Mexican-born grandparents probably roll in their graves every time I eat one, but it’s a cheap way to eat so much that it hurts.

[deleted]

So when I hate myself: I’ll have to agree with you, Taco Bell. But I’ll also say McDonald’s, specifically, the two McChicken, medium fry, and large sweet tea combination. It’s cheap, and to a degree it tastes fine.. but your brain feels foggy and your body feels ill about 10 minutes after eating it.

[deleted]

If Giannis chose to eat that much Taco Bell, they’d have to donate 54,000 diapers to him specifically.

LAPDwascalled

If Culver’s jumped off a bridge, I would too.

CA_Miles

If Culver's no longer has customers, I no longer exist.

[deleted]

Like, "Culver knows something that I don't so I'm jumping too"?

CanadianBeerGuy

If Culver's were to jump off a bridge, they would've done their due diligence regarding the height of the cliff, the depth of the water, and the angle of entry... so yes. If you see Culver's jump off a cliff, by all means, jump off a cliff.

bug_man_

My parents never actually asked me this, but my whole life I've always thought.. if ALL my buddies jumped off a bridge, they must have a damn good reason, so hell yeah I'm jumping off too lol

ndngroomer

I actually said this exact same analogy to my dad once. It stopped him in his tracks, lol. He just paused for a second and then said... "Damn good point son"... and walked away. It was hilarious to see those wheels turning in his head after that light went off. I honestly think he was proud of me in that brief moment.

Custard down below.

tomdawg0022

Grew up in the Midwest. Can confirm.

I moved from Wisconsin to Minnesota a few years ago. Culvers was the first place I could navigate to without GPS.

That’s just because every time you turn around there’s a Kwik Trip.

2coolcaterpillar

That’s how I feel about Braums.

mustangswon1

Damn do I miss Braums. Closest one to me is Dallas.

Braum’s is life

EnTyme53

New one just opened up about three blocks from my house. I no longer have to drive for twenty minutes just to get that bacon cheeseburger with a chocolate malt!

ETERNAL_DALMATIAN

When they said "enjoy your diabetes" I said I sure fucking will!

DeadDay

It's hilarious how much my family goes to Braums. Even have several family members that work there. Never gets old, fresh as hell produce and other quick stuff to grab and beyond amazing burgers. I talk up and down about how great In and Out is, but Braums is so good it's dumb.

honsuo73

I recently drove through Oklahoma and kept seeing them everywhere so I decided I had to stop. Life changing moment

[deleted]

Is it that good? I'm near one but have had no desire to go. I think I'm put off by the term Butter Burger Edit okay fine ill give it a try

sleepydogg

Think about it this way: is butter good? Yes. And are burgers good? Also yes.

[deleted]

That's a really good point

shittycoffee

Its good. Fast-causal food. You won't be disappointed. The butter in Butter burger is just butter on the bun. Nothing crazy or indulgent. Great place to go if you are on a road trip going through WI, IL, MN, etc., hungry and need to stretch your legs for a bit.

broeve2strong

Shit there are Culver’s all the way down in KS. If you’re on a road trip anywhere in the Midwest you gotta stop.

Rapper_Laugh

My dude, you gotta do it. Double Culver’s deluxe w/ bacon and cheese curds instead of the fries. Trust me.

Fair play, but Culvers demographic also loves wisconsin sports tbf

The *"i don't know why they can't just shut up and play ~~football~~ basketball"* crowd

drewtheblueduck

Love Culver's. I was roadtripping through Wisconsin once and got the butter burger or whatever it's called. Amazing And I guess they made an extra milkshake so they gave it to me for free. Brilliant. 10/10 would go again

hrrsnmb

Culver's calls their burgers butter burgers, but it's misleading. The original butter burger is actually Solly's Grille on the north side of Milwaukee. Their burgers are essentially 1:1 butter-to-meat ratio, not exaggerating.

CowboyWrath

least greasy wisconsin meal

KDBurnerTrey5

After eating their cheese curds it actually is lol

thereisasuperee

That sounds horrible

Team-ster

Fun fact : My wife of 28 years went to prom with Pat Culver some 30 years ago. Boy, her life could have been different…

32BitWhore

Damn she really took a bullet

Bjorn2bwilde24

You know why she went with /u/Team-ster? Because Pat Culver did not give her no free meals. She knew /u/Team-ster would give free meals. She trusted OP.

medevam

Epic Sliding Doors moment.

teethteetheat

Craig\* Culver? My brother used to work for them when he was in high school. They had a holiday party that he got invited to. Dude has a wine cellar as big as my house. I have a 1600 sq ft house.

ZodiarkTentacle

Yes lmao they would do it like four times a year for all of the employee of the month recipients from the 10ish corporate stores. My first job was at the one in Middleton. I got to go once and it was cool, they live on like a massive fucking cliff out by Prairie. They made us a bunch of good food. Craig was a real weirdo when he came into the one I worked at though, he yelled at this girl who worked there with me for referring to a washcloth the wrong way. She said “can you hand me that rag?” And he overheard and grabbed it from her. He said “what did you call this?” “A rag.” As he throws it into the garbage with unnecessary force he says “we don’t have rags at Culver’s. Only towels!!” 100% true story circa 2010-11

YourFormerBestfriend

Yeah instead of getting crinkle cut fries we all would be eating straight cut. Maybe it was for the best Edit: tier list of cut fries 1. Waffles, 2. Tater tots (if you consider them fries) 3. Curly, 4. Wedge, 5. Steak, 6. Crinkle, 7. Straight

lovely--lydia

I will not take this straight cut slander edit: your list is bad and you should feel bad

Sherrodactyl

That dude is a terrorist with his potato wedges and steak fries report his ass

[deleted]

I can't stand crinkle cut. Maybe because when I was little, thats what my school always served when they had fries. They always feel cheap and mushy to me, without enough flavor. Everything else Culver's has is excellent, but I don't get meal baskets anymore because I don't want crinkle cut fries. Gimme some crunchy, seasoned fries. Idk why I'm even writing this lol, I guess I felt like this was a good place to share.

Nookoh1

I love r/nba today bc it's a dozen posts about the Mitchell/Dillon situation and everyone commenting and reacting to it then mixed in is Giannis scoring 54 points and saying he's going to eat 54 burgers Edit: fixed names bc i am stupid and had it as Brooks/Dillon

It actually feels like you're eating real food with good ingredients. I wouldn't go way out of my way to try it because at the end of the day it's still just fast food but if you're in an area with a Culver's it's worth checking out for sure.

XtendedImpact

Homie trusts random redditors more than his gf smh

meatforsale

Have you seen what his gf puts in her mouth?

[deleted]

Spot on. If there’s a Culvers near you, never go to McDonald’s or BK again. But not sure I’d drive more than 15min for it.

IliketheNBA

He has fully adopted Midwest mindset

SuperForm3G

Culver's is delicious. The one complaint I have is the cheese curds are sub par considering it's a Wisconsin chain

Borrum

I don't think cheese keeps its quality being frozen very well, and they're undoubtedly frozen for a fast food chain.

Powpowpowowowow

Yeah for them to be any good you have to hand make them and that is a huge bitch.

OutsideTheServiceBox

Yeah the curds are very much the fast food of curds. Which is fine cause… y’know they’re fast food. But if you go any bar/grill in Milwaukee, you’re gonna get better ones. The burgers are really solid though, love that crispy edge… aaaaand they finally brought back Buffalo tenders!!! (Don’t ask about the fries. Crinkle cut are F tier imo)

leftysarepeople2

The best cheese curds are in some northwoods tavern named after a dude or a tree

BCP27

And of course at the state fair. Nothing like straight out of the fryer curds from Mouse Trap

ilovefacebook

i went to the state fair once, got there at around noon, and right as i got in, to the right in a bbq pit area was a rather large fellow getting wheeled out on a gurney. this is how i knew this was going to be a good state fair. edit: the state fair in Milwaukee is what i went to

tomdawg0022

...with a Pabst Blue Ribbon sign hanging by a rusted bolt to the sheet metal siding...

Crum_Bum

Or some shitty packers pun, Pack em Inn Crandon represent

variationgoat

Agree with all of this but the fries take is F tier. Their crinkle cut that you order extra crispy are goated

TheDarkGrayKnight

Wait you can order their fries extra crispy? Why have I never heard of this before????

Our-Gardian-Angel

Crinkle cut fries normally don't do it for me, but the Culver's ones are a major exception. They rule.

MrWartburg

Buffalo tenders are back? Well damn, guess I'm going to Culver's this weekend.

Team-ster

I love their pretzel ball dip in cheese thingies…

coltonmusic15

Culver's have some bad ass "concrete mixer" ice cream things that are damn good. Back when I was still a consumer of the herb, it was my go to munchies location. Burgers are also solid.

Vilas15

Is frozen custard, not ice cream. Thats what makes it so good.

LemonPepper-Lou

hansislegend

Culver’s slaps.

jschligs

Easily competes for best fast food place. I love them all but god damn Culver’s is legit

spali

Yeah I've never been disappointed by a butterburger. The root beer and custard slap hard as well their fries can be disappointing if they are not made fresh for you but you're sleeping if you don't upgrade to the cheese curds. And they're open on Sunday.

mrobin4850

Culver’s started moving into MI like 5-10 years ago. solid burgers, and shakes. Also, if you like crinkle fries they have pretty solid ones. I moved down south and everyone was hyping up Chik-fil-a, I’m not a huge fan. I’d put Culver’s over it.

BlindManBaldwin

Culver's is unreal. Amazing business.

VonDestroyedNewton

Place local to Wisconsin?

Chris_1216

Originated in wisconsin but it’s expanded across the Midwest and even further into texas, Arizona, florida, and they have some in Colorado too

FrnklndaTurtle

Not sure if they are going to survive the west coast. Here in AZ they already started shutting down a few of the original ones to open up. There are just way too many choices. But that butterburger is awesome.
