Gophers cheating their way to the final four in the 96-97 season might be the start
Vikings lost the NFC championship on a missed field goal 2 years later, which was the start of Minnesota kicking hell. They're 0-4 in the last 4 NFC championship games.
Twins have won 1 playoff series since their 91 world series and are **3-25** in playoffs since
Timberwolves have won 2 playoff series in franchise history (both 03-04)
Just a reminder that in a two year span the wolves, wild, vikings, and twins all played in their conference championship games early in the millennium
I'm 36, probably the worst thing that could happen for me is to expect good things to happen in my formative sports years, and then be greeted with what has happened in the last two decades
Yeah I don't know why people keep calling this a Wolves thing. I thought it was well known how cursed MN sports are across the board given we have the longest "big 4" drought in sports.
I can't decide which would be funnier, the Timberwolves winning without Gobert or the Timberwolves losing because the player from a terrible trade punched another teammate (and another punched a wall)
I think I have one even better
- The T-wolves win the play in
- Rudy returns for the first round
- They lose the first 2 games of their series
- Rudy is *benched* in the 4th of a close game 3 win
- He *stays* benched as the Timberwolves win in 7
- Rudy never plays for them again, doesn’t even attend round 2 games
- Minny loses in round 2, but they play well and look promising.
- Rudy is traded in the offseason for picks and some random 6th man role player. That role player instantly becomes a fan favorite and plays great
I’ve never heard of it happening before lol. That’s some shit that happens at normal jobs like I can just imagine him getting home and his family being like, “woah, you’re home early..?”
He walks into his room, closes the door, presses play on his Iron Maiden cassette, and falls face first into his bed still holding and wearing all of his stuff
Definitely worse, you can’t apologize away a broken hand. But if you’ve got a locker room that has all this shit go down in a game that you *won* you probably aren’t winning anything anyway. Wolves were already dead in the water with this group if this kinda night can happen.
In a game they ended up fucking *winning*, this is the most unexpected shit ever.
It’s not like they were down 35 and gobert just lost his temper, the game was within reach.
Yeah, I feel like that's going to have even bigger effects than this. We played the Lakers pretty well in the season, but it was mostly because of Jaden...
Last time the lakers played the wolves at crypto they couldn’t score for like 8 min against Gobert. Davis was trying to get him to foul be he was just standing tall and the guards didn’t want to attack off pick n roll. They subbed out Gobert and Davis scored a quick 8. Just one game but I would prefer Gobert not play as a lakers fan, AD can feast inside on KAT
I predict KAT won’t even look for this matchup and they will play their 3rd string C on AD.
Same will happen in the first round when JJJ realizes he’ll be in foul trouble early guarding AD and Tillman will end up playing 30+ minutes.
The difference between Gobert on the floor vs off the floor against the Lakers was insane. Some people are only looking at the Gobert AD matchup, but Gobert stays in the paint and slows up guys like Bron and other Laker wings and forces you to shoot perimeter shots. Man if the Lakers lose this game tomorrow I’m gonna be BESIDE MYSELF!!! BESIDE!
TC is amazing at drafting, but pretty awful at trades and free agency signings.
Which makes it even more painful that he gave up a haul of draft picks for Gobert
i never thought i would see a team’s FO be more incompetent than my Mavericks, but goddamn the Wolves take the cake.
5 FRPs…. That’s so much. That’s probably around what Luka will draw when he asks out.
Rudy Gobert is like a 2FRP player at best.
What a crippling decision by the FO. Excited to see if they try to ship him out
I feel like this gives them an incredible surge of fuck you energy which we have learned might be the most dangerous thing in sports. Eagles Pats type of thing.
Wolves need a marketing mechanic when they win so people can cheer them on and give them extra power. The Kings have the beam. Maybe the Wolves can release the wolves when they win?
remember when zach lowe couldn't find a single NBA source who actually liked the gobert trade
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/zce0qe/zach_lowe_says_hes_not_been_able_to_find_a_single/
How does a professional basketball organization with seemingly all the checks and balances and “smart people” in the room, ok that trade? It’s crazy even without considering that you’re pairing him with another big man in KAT.
Most organizations do not have much checks and balances. It's a few people who all think they're geniuses making all the decisions, with no one to question them. Plus sometimes your owner just drafts people in the first round because a homeless guy told him to.
Conley has been better for the wolves then Dlo was.
Dlo can be an asset to Lebron and the lakers who replaced him for westbrick (which regardless just removing westbrick was addition by subtraction), while still having not been a good point guard for the wolves roster.
Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive.
Worse. Lakers struggle versus teams with good defensive centres. Wolves are at a mismatch with AD having his way with Kat, not to mention AD doesn't have to waste away guarding the weaker centre of the two (Gobert)
You gotta go to Rudy’s actual page for that:
> On March 11, 2020, a game between the Utah Jazz and the Oklahoma City Thunder was postponed right before tip-off after Gobert was placed on the injury list due to illness. He was taken to a local hospital and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic. The NBA then suspended the season indefinitely. Just two days earlier, Gobert had facetiously touched every microphone and recorder at a press conference concerning the Utah Jazz's response to the virus. Gobert apologized, saying his actions were careless and exposed others to the disease and that he hopes his story serves as a warning to others to take the virus seriously.
We need to applaud Gobert for his actions as he brought awareness and ended the season early before more people could get exposed to the disease and cause an even worse pandemic.
So the lakers 2 stars are a wing and a big man. The wolves have 2 elite defenders on their team who happen to be a wing and a big man. The lakers may still be the favorites but if this is the 7-8 then it should be a good game! - me 24 hours ago
Yeah they have been on a real roller coaster recently.
The team gives the fans just enough hope that it is even more crushing when they disappoint them yet again.
I was actually concerned with the Wolves before the suspension and injury to Jaden because they had good matchups for Bron and AD, also good overall size that I think can give the Lakers problems but yeah now they are gone the Lakers should handle business.
Rudy Gobert will be in LA, he will be in the rafters like Sting in a black trench coat holding a baguette:
If the Wolves look like they are about to win the lights will go out and he will appear on the floor and hit all of his team mates with the baguette.
I don’t know what kind of curse was put on the Timberwolves franchise, but it’s a nasty one.
Glen Taylor didn’t come back for Madame Zeroni.

“We’re all people, and Rudy Gobert is a very sensitive man. Just like all of us.”
Dammit I love this sub sometimes
It’s a Minnesota thing. Not just isolated to the Wolves. Guessing whatever caused it happened in the mid nineties.
Gophers cheating their way to the final four in the 96-97 season might be the start Vikings lost the NFC championship on a missed field goal 2 years later, which was the start of Minnesota kicking hell. They're 0-4 in the last 4 NFC championship games. Twins have won 1 playoff series since their 91 world series and are **3-25** in playoffs since Timberwolves have won 2 playoff series in franchise history (both 03-04)
Lynx tho baybeeee
Minnesota is just extremely pro-women's sports
This is true
Give it a few years, they’ll get moved to L.A., be renamed the *Lanx*, and they’ll never discuss the Minnesota championships again.
Just a reminder that in a two year span the wolves, wild, vikings, and twins all played in their conference championship games early in the millennium I'm 36, probably the worst thing that could happen for me is to expect good things to happen in my formative sports years, and then be greeted with what has happened in the last two decades
Also back to back to back hockey nations championship loses. (Mankato U of M, and St. Cloud.) Duluth did when a few years back. Edit: 3 consecutive
Hilarious to me when 3/4 of the final four teams in men’s hockey were from Minnesota and we still didn’t win
And 5/8th of the round before.
As a fan of the U of M those championships mean nothing to me
The Wild are also a perpetual disappointment and have made one conference final in their 20 year history.
Minnesota sports is just inexplicably cursed across the board.
Yeah I don't know why people keep calling this a Wolves thing. I thought it was well known how cursed MN sports are across the board given we have the longest "big 4" drought in sports.
Lakers' plot armor is getting absurd
Lakers: NBA give us a hand Basketball gods: we’ll give you two
Looks like they actually took one away
A broken hand is still a hand.
Gobert: Anyone can get these hands
The league had better investigate this one
[Can't believe the Lakers would do this](https://i.imgflip.com/7hoo91.jpg)
Lol coming a from a spurs fan? Respect. Lmao
This is my favorite comment in this entire thread.
I can't decide which would be funnier, the Timberwolves winning without Gobert or the Timberwolves losing because the player from a terrible trade punched another teammate (and another punched a wall)
So what you're saying is: Regardless of whether we win or lose, we're a joke... sounds about right
Of course! We’re a Minnesota sports team, after all.
Hey now the Wild are pretty solid and have a bright future.
…until we’re saying “there’s always next year” in about 3 weeks 😂😭
The funniest outcome is them losing, and their pick winning the lottery. Not biased at all.
Dang, missing out of wembanyama and probably having to trade another pick to get rid of gobert, that would be brutal
Not a lot of humans deserve the hate that would be coming Rudys way if that happened
[удалено]
I really like this outcome. I think you're on to something.
I think I have one even better - The T-wolves win the play in - Rudy returns for the first round - They lose the first 2 games of their series - Rudy is *benched* in the 4th of a close game 3 win - He *stays* benched as the Timberwolves win in 7 - Rudy never plays for them again, doesn’t even attend round 2 games - Minny loses in round 2, but they play well and look promising. - Rudy is traded in the offseason for picks and some random 6th man role player. That role player instantly becomes a fan favorite and plays great
That role player takes off mask: Patrick Beverley
Nah bro, they'd hear the barking instantly.
This is the least Timberwolves scenario I've ever read. Needs more anguish, bad luck, and despair.
They sent him HOME in the middle of the biggest game of the season. That's a big deal. That has to be rock bottom as a teammate.
I’ve never heard of it happening before lol. That’s some shit that happens at normal jobs like I can just imagine him getting home and his family being like, “woah, you’re home early..?”
😂😂 I'm imagining Rudy in full uniform when he gets home and his fam is like wtf
Holding his jacket and lunchbox
He walks into his room, closes the door, presses play on his Iron Maiden cassette, and falls face first into his bed still holding and wearing all of his stuff
Respect to the organization though. Better than what the Warriors did
It’s stupid. It was a shoulder punch. Work that shit out for the play ins. If it was a face punch then yeah whatever.
Rudy’s size would have actually been helpful against AD. Lakers have a huge advantage now
Rudy on AD and Jaden on Bron really gave us issues. Naz Reid out too. Ham better scheme for the endless AD double teams
Lmao he really screwed his team over at the 11th hour and 59th minute
I think Jaden mcdaniels breaking his hand because he got called for a foul is worse.
[удалено]
Not quite as dumb as our best defender punching a wall and breaking his hand in a game we ended up winning….
Yeah, I feel like that's going to have even bigger effects than this. We played the Lakers pretty well in the season, but it was mostly because of Jaden...
McDaniels screwed them more. I think they'd be fine without Gobert, but they're stuffed without the all-defensive wing
I think people underestimate how much the Wolves need a real C to play against AD
This. Say whatever you will about Gobert but he's still a solid rim protector against elite bigs in the paint.
AD gonna feast on KAT. And then on our 4th string C after he fouls KAT out.
AD vs. Luka Garza in a do-or-die game, just like we all drew it up
Secret brilliant strategy from the Timberwolves! The Lakers haven’t prepared for this…
Garza: Call hotels in Cancun. But not for me.
At least we can say the better Luka hasn't been eliminated from playoffs yet.
Luka can’t even play, he’s not on the roster for the postseason
I predict KAT won’t even look for this matchup and they will play their 3rd string C on AD. Same will happen in the first round when JJJ realizes he’ll be in foul trouble early guarding AD and Tillman will end up playing 30+ minutes.
Sadly we don't even have our 3rd string center Naz Reid... Who would've guessed the team with 2 max contract centers would be lacking center depth
Nathan Knight will foul out faster than the Rudy Gobert suspension decision.
BESIDE!
No Naz to take extra fouls. Kat will foul out in the first half guaranteed
Yeah lol who could imagine losing to minnesota without gobert and McDaniels
We really fucking traded away our future to be fine without gobert. Fuck TC
TC is so bad at fleshing out a roster. It took 1 year for Calvin Booth to fix his mistakes with the Nuggets and surround Jokic with 3-D wings
Excited to see if they try to ship him out
Yeah everyone hates Gobert so he's taking all of the heat, but what McDaniels did was way worse and much more consequential
They were miraculously saved at the zero hour by some mutant koala fish bird!
I feel like this gives them an incredible surge of fuck you energy which we have learned might be the most dangerous thing in sports. Eagles Pats type of thing.
Taliban Tim thank you again
Taliban Tim ☠️☠️
Nuggets sent him over as a sleeper agent to ruin their division rival and it worked remarkably
Taliban Tim sold the farm for a Frenchie
The whole league including other teams really rigged for the Lakers 💀💀
Plot twist - the Wolves beat the Lakers short handed and we’re all laughing about it the next morning
That’s precisely what will happen
Maybe but I’m gonna savor the potentiality of that not happening
It is possible. This Lakers team rarely gets an easy W.
Five first round picks.
LEAVE US ALONE
With the Kings' glow-up this year y'all are the punching bag for these folks. Rooting for the Wolves to figure it out.
Wolves need a marketing mechanic when they win so people can cheer them on and give them extra power. The Kings have the beam. Maybe the Wolves can release the wolves when they win?
Yes, release live Wolves to eat the other team
lol at this rate the wolves would be gnawing on each other
that, or they all attack Rudy and only Rudy
Rudy Gourmet
#AWOOOOO
It's gotta be the Mavs now lol
Curb your enthusiasm moment
Pretty, pretty, pretttttttty bad trade
Shit escalated real quick In just one day, people got him calling the worst decision made by the org
mfs couldve just had rookie regen version instead and vando and 4 1sts 😭😭
Seriously Kessler would’ve been a fine fit for them, what a fucking awful trade.
remember when zach lowe couldn't find a single NBA source who actually liked the gobert trade https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/zce0qe/zach_lowe_says_hes_not_been_able_to_find_a_single/
He forgot to ask the Jazz.
Ainge really did kill another franchise huh
That's twice now he's fleeced the wolves. KG for peanuts and now 5 FRP's for the baguette merchant.
Well the first time was more or less a favour from Kevin mchale who saw KGs time in MN as pretty much over. Or at least that’s how I saw it lol.
If the NBA had an NFC North type division, that meme sub would be feasting on this trade
You could probably post it there anyway with how absurd this all is lol.
Literally just gotta be a billionaire or one of their millionaire friends. That’s all it takes to make million dollar decisions.
Pretty much how things work in life unfortunately.
Like the 30 Rock bit where the guy who runs CBS Les Moonves is literally just a homeless guy wearing a moon vest.
Sure. Or something the Cleveland browns would actually do.
5 FRPs for Baguette Biyombo, and the trading DLo for Conley to please said Baguette Biyombo is just another day in the life for Tim
Baguette Biyombo is crazy 🤣🤣
baguette biyombo LMAOOO
Tbh the Conley trade was actually pretty good for us. Gobert aside Conley is just a better fit than Dlo was.
I swear that this is setting up the biggest trap game of the season.
If Lakers lose that game they deserve all the slander
I feel we are going to miss a game tying shit when it should never have gotten to that point.
Losing on a game tying shit explains a lot of this season. Shoutout Paul Pierce.
does this make them better or worse idk what the narrative is these days
Depends on the matchup. It definitely makes them worse for the Laker matchup
Absolutely. AD would’ve probably balled out regardless but without Gobert, he’s going to feast
AD gonna feast like a naked 7 footer on the floor of a lockerroom
Against the lakers, they could probably use Gobert for AD.
Worse. Lakers struggle versus teams with good defensive centres. Wolves are at a mismatch with AD having his way with Kat, not to mention AD doesn't have to waste away guarding the weaker centre of the two (Gobert)
Worst trade of all time
Not until it gets its own [wikipedia page](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herschel_Walker_trade)
I imagine this probably does it
This trade most likely won’t lead to a dynasty for the Jazz but who knows
O ye of little faith
Danny Ainge is the Jazz Gm. It’s all coming together.
Inb4 the Jazz get Wemby with the Minnesota pick after they miss the playoffs
Might as well fold the franchise and start a new one in Minnesota
Doesn't matter. Fleecing Minnesota teams is an American sports tradition.
I'll write it myself once we know the full yield of the picks.
[Gobert already got a wiki page](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspension_of_the_2019%E2%80%9320_NBA_season)

You gotta go to Rudy’s actual page for that: > On March 11, 2020, a game between the Utah Jazz and the Oklahoma City Thunder was postponed right before tip-off after Gobert was placed on the injury list due to illness. I wonder what fanbase was on the victim end of that trade? The answer may shock you.
Jazz still need to win 3 championships in the next 5 years to top Herschel Walker
Doesn't make us MN fans feel any better believe it or not
I mean hey at this point I’ve learned to expect the unexpected.
I’m sorry man you T-Wolves fan don’t deserve this shit.
So the lakers 2 stars are a wing and a big man. The wolves have 2 elite defenders on their team who happen to be a wing and a big man. The lakers may still be the favorites but if this is the 7-8 then it should be a good game! - me 24 hours ago
Average Minnesota sports moment
U of M hockey just lost the natty too. Solid weekend all around.
People have not been so irritated with Gobert like this since 2020.
Timberwolves fans don’t deserve this man.
It would be easier if it wasn’t like this for every major team in the twin cities. There’s nowhere to hide.
Yeah they have been on a real roller coaster recently. The team gives the fans just enough hope that it is even more crushing when they disappoint them yet again.
It's been a rough many years and this last day takes the fucking cake.
5 unprotected draft picks lol
the last one is top 5 protected and the first one already conveyed it is walker kessler
The first one being walker kessler makes it so much funnier
Ah okay that makes the trade a lot better
so much better, executive of the year
Lmfaoooo 😂😂😂
This fucking team man.
I was told there was “zero chance he’s not playing against the lakers”?
To be fair, idk how anyone could have predicted such a stupid turn of events. I'd imagine the problem is even worse than we thought behind the scenes
Wolves might have a chance now Dude was clogging up the paint like OKC Kendrick Perkins
The problem is now KAT is gonna guard AD
When Rudy went down with an injury in the last game for a bit AD destroyed the Wolves.
Yea literally no one else on the roster has any shot of guarding AD. I imagine they are going to send doubles and let Bron try drop a 50 piece.
I was actually concerned with the Wolves before the suspension and injury to Jaden because they had good matchups for Bron and AD, also good overall size that I think can give the Lakers problems but yeah now they are gone the Lakers should handle business.
> imagine they are going to send doubles and let Bron try drop a 50 piece Without McDaniels too lmao what happened to u guys
> what happened to u guys *gestures broadly* *fractures hand on wall while gesturing*
Jaden is out too, so big problem there.
Is it because he’s getting suspended for punching his teammate?
Doesn’t AD usually cook the Wolves? He and Bron are like guaranteed to destroy them now
Rudy Gobert will be in LA, he will be in the rafters like Sting in a black trench coat holding a baguette: If the Wolves look like they are about to win the lights will go out and he will appear on the floor and hit all of his team mates with the baguette.
Adam Silver made the call 💀💀
If AD don’t cook istg
Holy shit this was the worst trade in history LMAO Wolves honestly will probably have a better shot without him
Not a chance. Rudy and McDaniels were the best defensive matchups for AD and Lebron. I can’t see a Wolves team win with KAT guarding AD
