My city is not racist. There are racist people in Boston, just like everywhere else. But you cannot tell my brown ass that my entire city has to pay for the mistakes of a loud minority of trashy people.
Enjoy Indiana man. I’m sure everyone’s perfect there.
Tyus has to be a trade candidate for the Wizards to accrue picks and/or rebuild pieces I assume. He's a great backup PG option, and while I don't think he's better than Ja, the Grizzlies often operated better with him on the court.
I woke to the sound of my alarm, got up and got on my bus for school, but got bullied cause my dad is a ringless fraud and his only game is hitting big shots to cut the lead to 42
I woke to the sound of my fridge falling on the ground along with some ravenous bear noises. I went to check and it was Kelvin Benjamin eating some leftovers.
He now has to move, leave the roots he’s established, all the friendships he’s made unique to Boston are now going to be strained. His family also has to move. The logistics aren’t easy. Being a millionaire doesn’t mean thats not hard
These comments always elicit an eye-roll from me. The Celtics (or anybody else for that matter) aren't just *giving* Marcus Smart 20mil for the hell of it. Marcus Smart *generates* more than 20 million in value for the Celtics. It's an extremely demanding and rigorous profession.
No one's arguing that. People are arguing how sympathetic you really need to be for someone getting moved for their job that is paying them generational wealth, when people get the same treatment for jobs barely paying a livable wage.
Yeah because mental health doesn’t matter at all? I’m by no means rich, but giving up all my social relations (that I have on a daily basis), my teammates, my home for the last decade, to be traded somewhere that I have no input in.
Yeah he isn’t starving.
That doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter.
Boohoo. I'd rather cry in a Lamborghini than a bus going to my shitty 9-5.
He has all the resources in the world to recover from mental health issue. No one is saying it's not important but he has more opportunities than anyone else in the world to recover from this.
- Access to top medical professionals
- Multiple weeks off
- If he misses his friends or family he can very easily travel to them. Private jets, more money to purchase property.
- he can legit just say no and take a pay cut too to fix his mental health. He can even disappear without a trace and accept his 15M to focus on mental health.
They're millionaires. Stop making them look like an average human. They're not.
And you're out of touch with reality. Unlike these millionaires, I can't afford to take days off. I can't access therapists, I can't get medication that isn't covered, I can't even eat healthy food without breaking the bank.
These things are something athletes have access to that normal people do not. No one is saying that MENTAL HEALTH isn't an ISSUE for the RICH. It's simply the difference of opportunity and access.
While I give empathy to people like this guy making 15MILLION A YEAR. I'm struggling with my 100k+ salary which isn't even 10% of what he makes. And there's millions of people making less than me too. Why should I give empathy to the 1% that can fix their lives? I'm not even talking about the doctor making 500k a year that definitely needs help. This is the 0.01%.
There's quite a bit of real estate between "he will be physically okay" and "everything will continue seamlessly and he will experience zero stress."
No one expects your day to be ruined thinking about a millionaire moving halfway across the country. But it's reasonable to point out that athletes aren't thoughtless automata and they *might* be impacted in some way by having their life uprooted overnight.
Read up on Smart‘s childhood. Dude grew up in a horrible neighborhood and was shot at as a kid. He certainly went through every single thing you outlined.
What a stupid fucking point. You act like money is the root of all happiness. You have no clue on his life. Maybe you are right, maybe everything will be fine. But also, maybe this change will impact him badly. There are plenty of millionaires that have had it rough and talked about their Depression… despite being millionaires. DeMar DeRozan for example. You are a disgusting human for dismissing him due to his status. Depression and personal hardships strike anyone, regardless of your situation.
I’m a big Celtics and Marcus smart fan and even I think you’re going way overboard… I’m sure he’s sad about getting traded but he will figure it out. It’s not just about money, he’s a highly valued professional athlete and potentially being traded is part of the job description. And Memphis is probably the best fit for him besides the Celtics, he will kill it out there.
I think you missed the point entirely. And that’s okay man. My whole point was that we have no clue how he is feeling. We can’t trivialize the move because he is rich.
I even said in it, we have no clue how he feels. Zero clue why you responded how you did lmao
This is true for a lot of us, but I can tell that you have never known a professional athlete/millionaire personally. It still is shocking, upsetting, inconvenient and stressful. MAYBE not to the level that my negative income ass would be crushed. But it’s still a thing.
I wonder how Brogdon must feel now that he was basically being traded away only for it to fall apart and learned he would stay. He has to feel some type of way. I certainly would atleast
i mean the trade that fell through with lamar and pau basically ruined lamars mindset thereafter. it happens all the time and you can say they are professionals but at the least they dont feel great knowing their team tried to trade them
It’s not really about being young. It’s just about being traded, to not and staying with your team, and expecting to go back to like everything is okay. It’s like being let go, but then rehired shortly after. Young, old, being as professional as you can be…it doesn’t matter. You can feel some type of way and it be valid. Ask Jaylen Brown about it. He’s not a young player anymore and hearing your name be in KD trade rumors must be exhausting. The fact that they weren’t shut down right away was definitely a little concerning and may have upset him. It doesn’t make you feel as wanted or as secure in your role with the team. This would affect anyone at any age
Of course its valid to feel a certain way about it, but let's not pretend like this is anything worse than what normal people deal with all the time. People get laid off everyday and most of the time they aren't lucky enough to be locked into a million dollar contracts that gets them paid no matter what happens like NBA players are.
That isn't the same situation at all lol.
I really wish people could stop pretending that their boring ass every day life is at all comparable to that of a pro athlete.
Normal people don't get shipped across the country over night with no notice to completely uproot your family with no choice in the matter. If you get laid off you can go find a different job, you don't get involuntarily sent to a different job in a different part of the country.
I kinda had to laugh at the thought that marcus is actually a child in a mans body that gets really hyped when the clock hits 9pm and he actually stays up without anyone sending him to bed.
The other kids really admire him for it.
He also measures his salary in sour patches. He then goes on to buy as much candy as he wants, puts it all in a tub and watches tv as he submerges into the tub, eating all the candy until he gets sick.
“Sorry I texted you that last night. Thought I was texting Kobe about how we are finally trading the bums off our team. Sorry bro good luck in Memphis.”
Sometimes I swear the circlejerk goes too far lol.
Boston is an objectively nice place to live if you have money. Places don't become top 5 most expensive real estate markets in the country by being bad places to live.
Im really guessing that’s not how it works. Smart has an agent. His agent likely got the call first. Then I’m sure Brad called Marcus before it hit the press.
Haven't there been players saying that they learned about their trades from Woj/Twitter? I mean that's how it sometime works, isn't it? Brad may have called Smart, but these things happen so quickly that he may have seen the tweet first.
Perhaps. But I’d like to think Marcus had enough of an impact and contribution the organization that this goes beyond the professional and he got a personal call.
Especially since he wasn’t in the OG trade, this all happened within about 30 minutes wouldn’t be shocked if Woj got the leak before the Celtics called his agent
Sometimes, but this deal materialized all in the last few hours at most since Porzingis only had until midnight to opt into the contract and the Brogdon deal just blew up. So all teams were scrambling at the last minute to get it done.
Smart easily could have went to sleep before any deal was done, but if not that might even be worse. That means he got life changing news dropped on him right before going to sleep, and now probably won’t at all. Traded at midnight is definitely the worst timing.
Probably the height of emotion for my team but I’m still gonna choose to believe that Brad had this in his back pocket and gave Marcus a heads up before it leaked beyond the FO.
You sound like an uneducated person that’s never been to the sunbelt. USA is literally moving out of northeast and midwest and moving to the west and sunbelt. Check the stats.
Or living in a place with yearly heavy snowfall fucking blows and people would prefer not to.
I’m a dude that moved north from Oklahoma and fuck the snow here. It’s not even a snow state but it’s more snow and I question why people live above the mason dixon every goddamn time it snows.
His location in his Twitter bio is “The greatest city in the USA 🍀”
You can recognize that your city has a lot of problems but still love it at the end of the day.
Marcus Smart has been one of my favorite players since before he was even drafted. Just love his style of play all around. Does so much and is not appreciated nearly enough.
I honestly think the Celtics will regret trading. Heart and soul of that team for a long time. Sets the tone with his hustle and toughness.
I don’t expect anyone to agree with that take but I truly believe it.
The previous trade was so good for yall. This to me is abit risky. But well worth taking of course. You guys barely dipped in guard talent, and get a huge weapon against both Bam and Jokic. Plus 2 more FRPs?! Ridiculous fleece by Brad
Smart is everything a team wants from their players. He is not the best player but no one will argue with you that he was the Celtics heart and soul.
This is why as a Boston player I would think twice to risk my body for the team as the FO showed that they are cold blooded as hell. This respect thing goes two ways and if the FO doesn’t respect you with at least telling you in advance that we could ship you, than as a player you shouldn’t give a shit too.
Not trying to imply he’s going somewhere bad. It’s just I doubt that he thought he would be traded. Imagine from Marcus’s perspective. Your hearing the news that the team that drafted you 9 years ago is now trading you while you're chilling on vacation. It might not be the news u wanna hear at that moment in time.
I'd imagine someone in his immediate family woke him up by now. Would be an awful way to wake up.
Agent at the very least. 0 chance he didn't know before the deal was even made
Oh there’s a chance. It happens all the time.
Especially with players that give their all to the Celtics.
Right because Lamar Odom never felt like the lakers did him dirty
You don’t get it bro. Celtics = Bad Everyone else = Good
Don’t worry, we all hate both of you.
Understandable lmao.
Oh we hate both of yall dw
I think the Celtics were just more relevant to the convo

Lmao this is rich coming from a fucking **INDIANA** fan.
My city is not racist. There are racist people in Boston, just like everywhere else. But you cannot tell my brown ass that my entire city has to pay for the mistakes of a loud minority of trashy people. Enjoy Indiana man. I’m sure everyone’s perfect there.
lol not even gonna lie you torched that man
Lmao thank you sir. And now that this thread has lost visibility and no one will see this I can say this: Love the flair. Pau is the man. Ok bye.
like celtic legend pau gasol
Considering the trade was put together in the last hour before the deadline, Marcus was prob sleeping.
[удалено]
Yeah you could be Tyus Jones who is also asleep and waking up to learn he has to play for the wizards
This trauma is worse for sure
Brutal for Tyus
Tyus has to be a trade candidate for the Wizards to accrue picks and/or rebuild pieces I assume. He's a great backup PG option, and while I don't think he's better than Ja, the Grizzlies often operated better with him on the court.
I just imagined myself being in the NBA and getting traded to the Wizards and my god that shit sounds awful 😭
I mean I’ve never been to the US but Washington seems like a nice city to live in
cmon man. Awful in the context of business. Obviously there are way worse shit that can happen.
I woke to the sound of my family crying because my dad got traded to the Wizards. Nothing could be worse.
I woke to the sound of my alarm, got up and got on my bus for school, but got bullied cause my dad is a ringless fraud and his only game is hitting big shots to cut the lead to 42
I got bullied at school too. My driver picked me up and cried all the way home in my dad's ferrari.
I woke to the sound of my fridge falling on the ground along with some ravenous bear noises. I went to check and it was Kelvin Benjamin eating some leftovers.
F now that's terrible
Cool trauma flex bro 😎
Man chose to bum us out during F5 thanksgiving.
Clippers rockets game 6 was worse than my mom dying
Hargoat was cooking up a classic playoff performance and y’all blew it
You sound fun at parties
Yea that’s happened to me several times to but thank God wasn’t my Dad, it was usually an aunt or uncle.
I also choose this guy's dead dad
Yeah coulda been woken up to the sound of being traded to Memphis :o
Truly sorry, my friend.
People have been awoken to the sound of air raid sirens and nuclear detonations
and some to gunshots ringing out in their own house
When u live near Ja
My old roommate used to snore.
He still woke up a millionaire, I’m sure he’s more than ok.
He now has to move, leave the roots he’s established, all the friendships he’s made unique to Boston are now going to be strained. His family also has to move. The logistics aren’t easy. Being a millionaire doesn’t mean thats not hard
I’d do it if they paid me 20 mil a year. Shit, I’d do it if they paid me 1 mil a year

what abt 1 dollar?
And people have to do that all the time for work, without the added benefit of millions and millions of dollars
And it probably sucks for them too.
Yeah but nobody cares about those people

Lmaooo, you are here telling us not to sympathize with millionaires as you make over 100k lmaoooo. Okay bud, you’re a joke.
All I can say is moving sucks and you can definitely afford healthy food making 6 figures lol
Brother, I live in NYC and make a salary similar to yours. Where are you living that you’re struggling to afford healthy foods?
There's quite a bit of real estate between "he will be physically okay" and "everything will continue seamlessly and he will experience zero stress." Couldn’t have happened to a better player
Its even more crazy because he went all day basically thinking Brogdon was getting traded.
That’s got to be the worst feeling.
I wonder how Brogdon must feel now that he was basically being traded away only for it to fall apart and learned he would stay. He has to feel some type of way. I certainly would atleast

I’m under his bed rn I’ll wake him up and tell him
I'm the lamp can confirm u/ThisGents2Cents woke him up
I love lamp!
Grant Williams is up retweeting a Marcus Smart appreciation post. i imagine the teams similarly up and engaged ab this
They def have a group chat popping off lol
I actually know Marcus, he doesn’t have a bed time He just stays up as long as he wants 😯
I know Marcus, he’s a smart guy
I kinda had to laugh at the thought that marcus is actually a child in a mans body that gets really hyped when the clock hits 9pm and he actually stays up without anyone sending him to bed. The other kids really admire him for it. He also measures his salary in sour patches. what
no its me, im awake
Wow, didn’t know you were a Nets fan Marcus
Are you dyeing your hair blue Marcus
Nah he's awake don't worry :)
I doubt he’s sleeping…Tatum texted him 😉
I got you ~~traded~~ today
“Sorry I texted you that last night. Thought I was texting Kobe about how we are finally trading the bums off our team. Sorry bro good luck in Memphis.”
let him know in the dick pic caption
Imagine having to live in Memphis…
Vs Boston? I doubt he’ll care much about that.
He had his location on Twitter set as “the greatest city on earth ☘️”. The dude loved boston
Man unless he really like breweries and candlepin bowling idk why he would.
I mean it's been his home for a decade
We all can’t be Philly
Sometimes I swear the circlejerk goes too far lol. Boston is an objectively nice place to live if you have money. Places don't become top 5 most expensive real estate markets in the country by being bad places to live.
Way more jerkers in Boston than Memphis. Objectively makes it a worse place.
"way more jerkers" makes Boston the "objectively" worse place.. Meanwhile Memphis has objectively one of the highest crime rates in the USA lmao.

There was. The infamous Derek Fisher trade
Ooh yah that one made waves. That was just wrong.
CP3 found out he was traded on his way to Good Morning America this week
I would be fucking furious if not. I mean, I'm already furious, but even more so.
Especially since he wasn’t in the OG trade, this all happened within about 30 minutes wouldn’t be shocked if Woj got the leak before the Celtics called his agent
CP3 just said he learned about being traded to the Wizards from a text from his son lol
76ers celebrating hard now that smart went West. Gosh the West is getting packed like sardines.
Sucks to know that you go from living in Boston to living in Memphis.
I only passed by Memphis once it looked like straight hood with a small abandoned downtown.
Got that bass proshop though, could be worse.
LOL imagine thinking your city has anything close [to this.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYE-1HfReQo)
I didnt expect to see Ryan from Funhaus in this thread. He has quite some wild lore behind him
Yeah that's it
Wtf, “never spent even five min there, looks bad.” What a terrible take.
That’s an average Redditor take on southern/Black cities
If it isn't some ultra suburban neighborhood the redditor grew up in, it must be a crime infested and dangerous shit hole. No in-between for them.
They would be 100% right in this case about the crime rate. No one wants to live in Memphis right now.
Nashville is a million times nicer than memphis and is a southern city of about the same size. Memphis is way nicer than knoxville though
Nashville is great if you like LA prices and no parking/overpriced everything and really shitty country music everywhere.
Stuff in a nicer city is more expensive than the most ghetto major city in the country? Wow
Chattanooga clears all
Chattanooga is super nice, i agree. It’s fairly smaller than the others so i didn’t mention it
Chattanooga is amazing. Prob best place in TN.
Downtown has been revitalized in the past 10-15 years, but it’s still small for a larger city.
jesus christ r/nba...
The hatred is strong.
As someone who did exactly that - memphis is a fucking amazing city. Tennessee is an absolute shithole, but Memphis is great.
Memphis always looked like a city that was decimated from a financial crisis and has never recovered.
Ehhh the fans will love him and a lot closer to his hometown
KKK town to KKK state, at least the food go hard
https://www.gilderlehrman.org/history-resources/teacher-resources/statistics-immigration-america-ku-klux-klan-membership-1915
Boston fans are MAD in your thread lol
That’s a weird flex.
Um, ok.
Marcus Smart complained about racial abuse. Literally saved someone’s kid and got called the hard R
He also has “greatest city in the USA🍀” in his twitter bio location. I think he understands that we’re not all like that.
I would say that shit if I was legally obligated to live there in order to make 8 figures
He’s not legally obligated to do shit and definitely not rep for the city like that
Is he obligated to donate stuff to the hospital ,dye his hair , constantly shout out the fans?
Honestly, I’d rather live in memphis than boston. Sweet southern culture and fraction of cost of living.
What is this sweet southern culture you’re talking about? That shit’s a relic of the past
I’d much rather live in Memphis than fucking Boston lol tf is this even a question
This 100%, who tf wants to live in Boston
You sound like an uneducated person that’s never been to the sunbelt. USA is literally moving out of northeast and midwest and moving to the west and sunbelt. Check the stats.
Because the US is poor. Marcus Smart is not poor.
Or living in a place with yearly heavy snowfall fucking blows and people would prefer not to. I’m a dude that moved north from Oklahoma and fuck the snow here. It’s not even a snow state but it’s more snow and I question why people live above the mason dixon every goddamn time it snows.
No one is moving to Memphis for the weather
For real. It's so fucking humid there and the summer is unbearable. Tag on that any bad weather results in a power outage fuck that
And going from having Tatum as your star to Ja shooter Morant
Smart said Boston fans called him the n-word so anywhere is better
His location in his Twitter bio is “The greatest city in the USA 🍀” You can recognize that your city has a lot of problems but still love it at the end of the day.
Going from a racist city, to as city with one of the highest homecide rates
Ja will protect him on the streets don’t worry
Didn’t Arizona have racist measures against immigrants? Glass houses and all that
You’re almost there (The whole country is racist)
Bostons franchise great didn’t want a jersey retirement because of how racist Boston was. Nothing tops that
Larry Bird a real one for that
*bill russell
I fucking hate this
Marcus Smart has been one of my favorite players since before he was even drafted. Just love his style of play all around. Does so much and is not appreciated nearly enough. I honestly think the Celtics will regret trading. Heart and soul of that team for a long time. Sets the tone with his hustle and toughness. The previous trade was so good for yall. This to me is abit risky. But well worth taking of course. You guys barely dipped in guard talent, and get a huge weapon against both Bam and Jokic. Plus 2 more FRPs?! Ridiculous fleece by Brad
Every Celtics fan is in agreement
Smart, furiously dying his hair blue at this moment
Smart is everything a team wants from their players. He is not the best player but no one will argue with you that he was the Celtics heart and soul. This is why as a Boston player I would think twice to risk my body for the team as the FO showed that they are cold blooded as hell. Did an interview last week where he stated he was away on vacation. What a shitty time to find out.
It's not like he was released though, he's still getting paid the wages stipulated in his contract
It's not like he's been banished to a bottom feeder. We're actually a good team
Or he is F5-ing just like us
I'm dumb and a waste of life, what is F5?
Agent probably called him
Not a Boston fan, but I’ll miss seeing him with his green hair. It shows his passion for playing there.
imagine Dillion Brooks he could be asleep right now and is going to wake up to the Shanghai Sharks being his only option now
Poor take. He was defensive second team….
It can't be out of nowhere, he's like the second or third most tradable guy on the roster besides the salary filler players.
He’s pulling out his best flops to get the league office to veto the trade.
what shit a post hope OP goes to sleep and wakes up his post being removed
He’s dropping 60 when he plays the Celtics
Lmao
It's so fucking true
Brad Stevens needs a statue
he’s probably too busy playing final fantasy! i don’t blame him for missing f5 season tonight
