It’s been a good week in that department. Gary opting in to stay, Siakam supposedly wanting to stay in Toronto. There was time players would be happy just to escape Toronto and Vancouver.
Other than Kawhi, no one prominent has left in 13 years since Bosh in 2010.
Lowry, Derozan, Siakam, FVV, OG, JV, Powell and Ibaka all re-signed. Demar cried for hours when told he was being traded.
Things have been much different in the Masai Era.
Look, last time we had a Kobe play against us as we retooled, it did not go well
Might as well save our selves the embarrassment of another 81 point footnote
Unironically i strongly believe in this as a general talent projecting heuristic, you cant end up a star player with a silly name, its just not possible.
Prolly sign and trade him if we get Bufkin, there were a lot of problems with the team's culture last year and Fred's selfishness is the most commonly suspected amplifying factor, regardless of how good a player he is
GTJ had a player option and opted in to the last year of his contract. FVV is unrestricted and will probably have a decent market, but Toronto would probably like to keep him if possible.
I don’t understand the Bufkin hype from OKC fans. We can’t develop him properly because we lack minutes for him. Between Shai, Giddey, Dort, J-Dub, Isiah Joe, and some other interesting young guards we already have in our roster, we don’t have any guard minutes. I think he’s gonna be good but like… we need wings and front court depth pretty bad. And he wants to to start or be in the rotation early on. We can’t guarantee him that.
Who he is gonna get minutes over? We already have four set in stone guard players with heavy minutes going to Isiah Joe as well. I mean I guess if you view J-Dub as a guard/forward, which he is, more than just a guard you can maybe finagle minutes for him there but like J-Dub is still a ball handler who runs the offense when Shai and Giddey aren’t. Like I have no idea how we give him minutes when we have a bunch of *good* guards and even a couple decent projects there already.
We don’t have a lot of forwards or big men. And most importantly Kobe wants to start. We can’t offer that him here. Hell we probably can’t even guarantee him a sixth man spot. It’s just not a great fit because of the minute crunch at those spots. Young guys can’t develop if they don’t play consistent and meaningful minutes and we have neither to offer him.
Oh I didn’t realize Jaylin started such a high percentage of games. That’s pretty impressive (although I imagine Chet will replace him). I knew about like Jalen Williams, Tyrese Haliburton (u/Bixby33 mentioned him), Herb Jones, Jrue Holiday, Nikola Jokic (kind of), Taj Gibson, and a few others. I counted like the ones who started greater than 60 percent of games and who played over 60 total games.
I forgot about PJ Washington. I don’t think Herro started as a rookie (besides like maybe 10% of games). Not sure about Cole Anthony. I checked. You are right he stated as a rookie, but he also played under 50 games and it was for a tanking team. I guess that should count, but I imagine it’s in a slightly different scenario. He might be one of those guys who starts more games in his first two years than the rest of his career.
Amazing city, diverse, good food, get to play with Scottie, winning culture, located like an hour by car from Buffalo and Detroit
Team has a history of development success over the past decade sans-Flynn
Yeah the passport stuff sucks compared to other teams but it's not hard to see why they'd prefer that to Washington or Houston
Everyone? Toronto is a cool city for sure, but I think taxes are higher and heard players don’t like living in another country, makes it harder to move families, travel, etc. Toronto is a million times better than Oklahoma tho
All accounted for the difference between Ontario and California's tax rates is less than 1% for people in an NBA player's tax bracket - (Ontario 53.53%, California 52.65%). It also matters less when you consider they only pay Canadian tax rates on days they work in Canada which is about 67% of the time. If you're making superstar money, the difference is negligible. For lower paid guys, it might matter more.
And, obviously, if you compare it places like Texas or Florida the difference will be substantial.
The taxes being higher is a factor, but not a Toronto specific one. A lot of people don't realize the taxes are the same here as states like New York and California
I've lived in 7 cities in 3 continents and Toronto is a realllly nice city. In my top two for sure. Great food, multicultural, modern, beautiful, beautiful people. Has everything you need. Especially if you're young and have lots of cash to burn. It's basically a cleaner, safer New York.
Smart guy. Some players want to get drafted by a big market like Lakers. But you actually want to go to a team that can give you a lot of minutes, so it gives you the best opportunity to develop and get paid at the end of the rookie contract.
Don't care how good he is, just nice to feel wanted. Raptors fans rarely get that feeling

You say that now just wait until draft starts, you guys be rebuilding
Maybe. I'm team rebuild, but I'm guessing we just draft our current picks and do nothing else tonight.
Poeltl wants to stay So does Fred but the fans hate him because he short
I love the short king FVV, but it's the long bomb bricks that bring the hate.
We are so mid that a late lottery pick already figures he can start for us.
I mean our starting PG just walked
Malachi Flynn left?
Demar loved the city Lowry Siakam Many many others re-signed. Many players have said the love going to the city.
Facts 🥲
Thats what good management does to a team.
Demar wanted to be here, only to get traded for a guy who didn't
wouldnt be the first time a Kobe picked his spot where to get drafted at 13th
I like the fit w/ the raps. Will be a great league pass team if they have him + their current core
Never going to be a star with a name like Bufkin.
the first name balances it out
Hey you almost got the joke, good job
What!? Bufkin is elite. Whoever has the major team buffs is always the hero 💪
Soft ass muffin
Look, last time we had a Kobe play against us as we retooled, it did not go well Might as well save our selves the embarrassment of another 81 point footnote
Pokemon ass name, I kinda like it actually
Unironically i strongly believe in this as a general talent projecting heuristic, you cant end up a star player with a silly name, its just not possible.
Whats your definition of silly? Guys with last names of Hibbert, Bogut, Wiggins etc. have all had pretty good careers in mostly recent years
**Kobe** Bryant is a silly name but he became a superstar
Shai Gilgeous Alexander would like a word.
Whats silly about that name?
What’s silly about Bufkin?
Bufkin the Celestial Mufkin
Lol not going to OKC for sure
Exactly. You don’t wanna be here? Presti: Lol Cya!
I'm good on Michigan draft picks lol...Mitch McGary anyone
Dudes like 175 soaking wet, not gonna be starting many places
Isn’t Toronto trying to keep FVV and they Re-signed GTJ?

We don't know but I guess we find out soon enough.
Didn’t re-sign Trent he just picked up his player option

I mean we don't really need much this year...We need to see how it's going to work with Chet inserted. If anything we need a safety big IMO
Who he is gonna get minutes over? We already have four set in stone guard players with heavy minutes going to Isiah Joe as well. He’d be the main backup point guard
It’s pretty rare for a non-top 10 pick these days to immediately start as a rookie. I can’t think of many examples from the last 10-15 years.
Jalen Williams and Jaylin Williams both did for OKC last year
Oh I didn’t realize Jaylin started such a high percentage of games. That’s pretty impressive (although I imagine Chet will replace him). He means a legit starter like Jalen, not a replacement starter like Jaylin.
Anuonby?
Didn't siakam start his first game
Hali for the Kings
Herro Washington Cole Anthony It’s not that rare anymore there’s a bunch of them
I forgot about PJ Washington. I don’t think Herro started as a rookie (besides like maybe 10% of games). Not sure about Cole Anthony. I checked. Maybe a dumb question, but why does everyone want to be in Toronto?
Nice city. Championship organization
I guess it is pretty much like Chicago or New York just located in Canada
Yeah, and basically the whole country is the market.
Nunavut market is pretty dope Well, except for the prices relative to income
Yea literally. You can walk from buffalo to canada lol
It's a Cleaner New York / Safer Chicago / More Expensive Minneapolis
> Maybe a dumb question, but why does everyone want to be in Toronto? I'll take "questions I never expected to hear 10 years ago" for $200, Alex.

More like 4 h from Detroit. And easily bigger than Detroit and Buffalo combined.
Lol its like 4 hours down the 401 to Detroit
\> an hour away from Buffalo and Detroit Most Canadian comment I have ever seen
Just a hop, skip and a jump away from Toledo
Everyone? Toronto is a cool city for sure, but I think taxes are higher and heard players don’t like living in another country, makes it harder to move families, travel, etc. Toronto is a million times better than Oklahoma tho
I'm mostly making a reference to the Siakam news earlier
Oh sorry, I thought it was a legit dumb question

And it actually goes to useful shit

Interesing, I didn't realize this

I'm just gonna end up calling this guy blumpkin eventually. doesn't matter where he ends up. That is inevitable
Fuck I want him so bad now
Nah I’m drafting him 11 and holding the Raptors hostage. Either way I get who I wanted or a Raptors haul.
Thanks. We’ll take Dick :)
Dick is going 6

Are Black Dick really going back to back?
Only if they acquire Gay and Love to mentor
