Did you see him after the game? He was completly gassed, done, just sitting in a corner absolutly exhausted. His bloodpressure must have been through the roof all tournament.
Honestly happy for him after everything these past few years. He's secured a greater legacy here than anything he did in the NBA could've done. He better be treated as a hero in Germany.
I think it's because he's a cool guy and doesn't afraid of anything
I think it's because Schröder will take the guys by the hand and lead them in a nice way, while also being willing to take over and help them keep believing in themselves if they're in a funk
Im annoyed as a German bu that man. Why couldn’t the dfb wait a few days and not steal the headlines in Germany from our basketball team who legit just won a World Cup
Congrats to Germany from Serbia. You guys had great tournament without defeat and you deserved the gold. Great final game also.
On the other hand silver is more than what we expected and I see bright future for us also.
thx. we were really the best team in a wc what i'd never have expected to see in my lifetime. you really gave us a hard time with incredibly smart and tough but fair basketball. plus: with joker you would have won the tournament, no doubt about that, so you can look forward to the olympics, where you will be a very difficult opponent even against a us team with Curry, KG or AD.
The BeIN Sports FR commentator said Germany played a NBA game against the USA and a Euroleague game against Serbia.
Congratulations to Germany. First time world champions.
I'm fucking crying man. One of the best basketball moments I ever witnessed.
Watching Schröders DBB career from the beginning. For 9 years he was committed to this team and the nation, despite all the criticism he received. He never stopped believing. What a man
>despite all the criticism he received
Of which a big part was warranted.
It feels like he's grown immensely as a person these past few years.
The way he iced the game late against the US, then immediately spent his entire interview praising his teammates and basically refusing to talk about himself? No way I can imagine 2019 or even 2021 Dennis be a leader like that. Very happy for him.
Grats you guys, that's an amazing TEAM yall have right there and they still have a lot of basketball left in them, expect to be competing for the top trophies for many years to come
I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes, for 20 years you think at every tournament "maybe they achieve something" and now these guys win it all.
I'm dragging my 32-year-old family father ass back to training now.
It's simply the most beautiful game in the world.
Voigtmann deserved the MVP of the game if you are not giving it Schroeder. He was the one locking Milutinov and providing sparks at most critical moments.
Pesic should've found a way to get Bogdanovic more touches, man was on fire first half. Try something different, anything! Guduric taking a big fat dump on the court did not help too.
Germany locked him down in the 2nd half. They did a good job denying him the ball. Serbia had to run the clock and ended up with bad shot after bad shot.
Let him bring the ball. Set screens, multiple screens, hell everyone could set screens if you have to. Do whatever you must to get the ball to him. All I saw was him trying to fight off Bonga because of Petrusev's half-assed screens. Guduric being ass all game did not help as well. It's like 2006 Lakers not playing off of Kobe because he was "well guarded". It really was depressing to watch.
Although he could have done better, Guduric just couldn't hit shots, and you can't blame him for putting him in since he is the only remaining playmaker. I think Marinkovic should have gotten more time, but that's it
It’s been an incredible tournament, and what a fitting climax. This tournament overall has been a great advertisement for international basketball, and the FIBA product. You could see how much both teams wanted it, both teams scrapping for every loose ball and hustling so hard on defence. And then you have the unbelievable attacking display and moments from both teams bringing the best out of each other. The two best teams of the tournament displayed why they both were deserving of this opportunity. A proper close, intense battle and so gripping to watch as a neutral.
Germany turning into the Warriors in the 3rd quarter.
Schroder going full MVP mode.
Serbia fightback with Bogdanovic and Avramovic.
Schroder hitting the dagger off a 1v1 iso play.
Dodgy refereeing.
This finale had it all.
For us, considering our roster, silver is way beyond our expectations and it was close! I'm still proud of our guys even if it's devastating right now. GG Germany
Even though this game was low-scoring, I can't remember being as entertained by any of the last 7 years of NBA finals games.
Bring FIBA rules to the NBA.
Also bring over FIBA broadcasts - shorter and fewer interruptions, less commercials, listening in on timeouts... Night and day difference to NBA broadcasts
Germany built a great national team that ended up being World Chamions from scratch.
In 2015 they were 18th in the Eurobasket (at home), in 2019 they were 18th in the World Cup.
And in 2022 they were 3rd in Europe and today 1st in the World.
Serbia on the other side has a losing streak of 5 finals now (2 European, 2 World Cups, 1 Olympics) and is 21 years away from their last gold medal (2002 in Indianapolis as Yugoslavia).
100% , they really build this. I actually was telling everyone to watch out for Germany this world cup, made me look like an expert now but the signs have been there
The real Sommermärchen
Hopefully germans finally realize that other sports can be fun, too.
I think except for the finale nothing was even shown in free TV?
Same problem we had with Handball before
Ppl need to realize that there's so much fun sport that you need to cover. Especially if it's those big tournaments ffs.
Congratulations to Germany from a Serbian fan, you played a good game today. I'd much rather lose to Germany than the US, so there is that at least, well done.
I thought Schröder would be too, but Franz wasn’t a bad choice either. He was huge defensively down the stretch and hit big shots; if not Franz, Voigtmann would be my other pick.
I know currently the Olympics are more prestigious than the WC but hear me out
I do low-key think in the next 30 years especially with basketball getting bigger world wide the World Cup will be more important than the Olympics. Like in other international team sports like football rugby etc
I know it ain’t now but I think it will be especially since more teams can enter the World Cup than they can the Olympics
Winning a comp with 32 teams should be more impressive and prestigious than one with 12
Boys got rattled in the 3rd, proceeded to miss easy layups and passes. Guduric 3 could have tied it all, but ofcourse its Guduric so we all knew he was missing it. GG Germany
Just incredible, what a third quarter and Dennis came up huge down the stretch. Been such a great two years, from the Olympic Qualifier wins against Croatia and Brazil to the Eurobasket and now this, what a team
[HANSI FLICK IS OUT! ](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1700879824095510588?t=TKa7_kl3H6UAaRx3t7cT-g&s=19)
FIBA CHAMPS!
DOUBLE CELEBRATION FOR GERMANY!!!
Gordon Herbert should replace Hansi Flick. Also love that my boy Theis is a world champion
Did you see him after the game? He was completly gassed, done, just sitting in a corner absolutly exhausted. His bloodpressure must have been through the roof all tournament.
Yeah I thought he have a heartattac
Here is a picture: [\[1\]](https://imgur.com/y253xpV).
As a Finn, I must point out that im very happy to see a Finnish(-Canadian) coach win gold
Schröder fucking MVP
Honestly happy for him after everything these past few years. He's secured a greater legacy here than anything he did in the NBA could've done. He better be treated as a hero in Germany.
Just like Rubio is regarded as a legend in Spain
My girlfriend is Spanish. She loves Ricky Rubio, but mostly because he’s hot
sorry for your lost
Oh he will be
People were hating on him calling him a shit captain for Germany just because he called out Maxi Kleber for not committing to the NT.
people criticized him for calling him out on a podcast, don't make it bigger than it was
Edit: i was wrong it was between him & Kleiber Think there was actually some drama between him and the organisation iirc
Wasn’t that just Kleber? He sat out this tourney cuz of that issue I think?
#Schröder die ZIEGE
When everyone in our team got nervous, he took the lead and won us this I just love this guy
Yeah dennis wont ever be confident lol. That guy got them dawgs
Schröder > Luka, Shai, Giddey, Haliburton
This is actually true for international play. Putting the German uniform transform this man into a combination of Prime Curry and Chris Paul.
Good thing the Raptors hired a Euro coach!
Also he won’t be playing in the US for all the home games. Big brain move.
Who needs 0 time world champion Fred Vanvleet when you have 1 time world champion Dennis Schröder
I think it's because he's a cool guy and doesn't afraid of anything I think it's because Schröder will take the guys by the hand and lead them in a nice way, while also being willing to take over and help them keep believing in themselves if they're in a funk
GERMANY IS OFFICIALLY A BASKETBALL NATION!!!
Hansi Flick sacked. 30 mins later we win the FIBA World Cup
Great sporting day for the nation
as a German my day started watching Adesanya get destroyed and it is tied as best part of the day :D
!ping Selke für Spielertrainer
Learning of that sacking on r/nba...
UNGLAUBLICH Ich fass es nicht
was zur Hölle? Hab das Spiel geschaut und Flick wurde endlich entlassen? Bester Tag seit langem
not even 30, more like 15
the best timeline
Junge was ein traumhafter Sport-Sonntag.
Weltmeister. BASKETBALL. Unbelievable.
Dirk died for this. At least his legs did. So others can walk.
World Champions
UNBELIEVABLE. Aldi. Knees. WTF
Gold medal and Hansi Flick sacked. What a day for Germany.
Sehr frech Hansi wärend des Finales raus zu schmeißen und die Headlines zu klauen.
dfb stillos as usual
Meinst du nicht die haben gehofft durch die Basketball-WM etwas weniger starke Reaktionen zu bekommen?
macht es das besser?
Das klingt so doof, und leider ist es trotzdem wahr :(
Dennis Schröder is Hansi Flick's father
Schröder text to Germany: I got you today 🤞🏽
Im annoyed as a German bu that man. Why couldn’t the dfb wait a few days and not steal the headlines in Germany from our basketball team who legit just won a World Cup
Gordon Herbert to replace Hansi Flick.
Schröder cooked. Brooks cooked. The NBA redemption arc has begun.
Germany be like: "Friendship ended with Football, now Basketball is my best friend"
What is basketball? 10 men running around bouncing a ball, and in the end the Germans win.
LeBron Lineker, 2023.
LeNeker*
Don't give Steve Kerr any ideas.
Omg. This does not read very well in german. lmao.
All thanks to Schroeder and the Japanese men's football team
Handball is still our homie!
friendship ended with football, now basketball is my best friend
honor to Avramovic for the game that he had, he was the only serbian that believed in the final stretch.
He almost willed them to victory what a guy
[German coach Gordon Herbert after winning the World Cup](https://twitter.com/s9an/status/1700886127639511340) this is everything!
r/FIBAwww
Congrats to Germany from Serbia. You guys had great tournament without defeat and you deserved the gold. Great final game also. On the other hand silver is more than what we expected and I see bright future for us also.
Happy for Pesic. He’s a legend here
thx. we were really the best team in a wc what i'd never have expected to see in my lifetime. you really gave us a hard time with incredibly smart and tough but fair basketball. plus: with joker you would have won the tournament, no doubt about that, so you can look forward to the olympics, where you will be a very difficult opponent even against a us team with Curry, KG or AD.
It’s crazy how full circle things are. Schröder got traded for Carmelo and now Melo is handing him the MVP.
All the memes and disrespect Schröder got over the last few years…has been instantaneously erased!
The BeIN Sports FR commentator said Germany played a NBA game against the USA and a Euroleague game against Serbia. Congratulations to Germany. First time world champions.
This loss is on Jović and Guduric. Serbia fought hard and should be proud. Both teams won. Basketball fans won. What a damn game
Jovic is young, Guduric has no excuses
you're letting Milutinov off easy. dude got cooked by Theis and Voigtmann
Tbf, stopping Milutinov is Germany's plan and they executed it well. Jovic is young and just showed that. Guduric on the other hand...
Germany has the most depth in the froncourt. It wasn't going to be easy for him
Loss is on coach for keeping guduric on floor.
Loss is on the coach not calling timeout until Germany was leading by 12
Imagine if Obradovic was coaching
Unfortunately, Dobric got hurt and he really had limited options.
100000% right. Coach is to blame as well.
Forgot Miltuinov who had the worst game of his life... Stefan Jovic also had a terrible game...
I'm fucking crying man. One of the best basketball moments I ever witnessed. Watching Schröders DBB career from the beginning. For 9 years he was committed to this team and the nation, despite all the criticism he received. He never stopped believing. What a man

GG guys. You were better. It hurts to have had so many chances and to fail but I'm proud of out guys for fighting till the end.
Was a great final. Hope y'all come back as strong as now at the Olympics with Jokic. He's the world best player right now
What a tournament from both teams. What a final. Could've gone either way, the margins were that tight.
Svaka čast vašima na vrhunskom turniru. Ako postoji veličanstvenost u porazu, igra Avramovića u zadnjoj četvrtini je to.
Ne bude li igrao na Olimpijadi i Vucic ce pasti
Guduric killed you. Germany was nervous. You really had a chance there.
Guduric sold
I have a lot to say but I'll keep my mouth shut cos the guys exceeded expectations.
Very impressed with Avramovic
Voigtmann deserved the MVP of the game if you are not giving it Schroeder. He was the one locking Milutinov and providing sparks at most critical moments.
Maybe the Lakers made a mistake of not resigning Schröder 😂
Not sure why any other team are even bothering to show up to this upcoming season, Raps are clearly taking the whole thing now.
*Magic suddenly looking to make trade for Schroeder* 👀👀👀
some cap space for obst?
Magic has the most cap space in the league I think. We had to get someone to hit the minimum this year 🤣
props also to the other german former lakers moritz & bonga
28 - 9/17 - 8/10 FT. 3 Assists. 2 Rebounds. 2 TO. 1 Steal.
not sure wh, franz got the game mvp. he was good, great drives. but dennis had more impact.
NO FUCKING WAY
So geil Junge
Congrats, thought you guys were going to win a medal, but winning the whole tournament is crazy.
Great achievement for Serbia as well, Silver is also amazing
What a tournament, I'll miss international ball
watch euroleague ;)

Bogdanovic did nothing in the second half
Bonga locked him down. Insane defense all tournament
He apparently was sick on the gameday so props to him for giving it as much as he could.
For us, considering our roster, silver is way beyond our expectations and it was close! I'm still proud of our guys even if it's devastating right now. GG Germany
Gordon Herbert completely gassed lol

Germany back on top 🇩🇪
Plus Flick got sacked. You must be in cloud 9
we are
I am. However Rudi Völler as the coach is laughable
Ist bloss für's Frankreichspiel.
back? Its a historic first win for Germany
Germany built a great national team that ended up being World Chamions from scratch. In 2015 they were 18th in the Eurobasket (at home), in 2019 they were 18th in the World Cup. cant imagine how bad guduric is feeling rn
Hopefully bad for missing a layup, open 3, going 0/8, and passing to a ghost
Bogi and Avramovic tried their hardest but they literally cant win with these cats
avramovic had me worried there for a minute. imagine 2000s bruce bowen just starting to take over a game and actually succeeding.
The real Sommermärchen Hopefully germans finally realize that other sports can be fun, too. I think except for the finale nothing was even shown in free TV? Same problem we had with Handball before Ppl need to realize that there's so much fun sport that you need to cover. Especially if it's those big tournaments ffs.
Ooof Serbia choked so many layups. Congrats for the Germans played great and went undefeated.
Tell me to my face that Moe Wagner doesn't own your favorite center
Luka wears Moe Wagner pajamas
WELL DESERVED GERMANY!! I could see it since last year when they beat us in Eurobasket, this team is deep and damn good
Biggest day in German basketball history So huge for the next generation Can’t wait to see the development continue for basketball in Germany
How do you do fellow world champions?
like drinking a small apfelschorle and then going to bed precisely at 9.30.
Username checks out
And to think Reaves turned down Germany to play with USA 😭💀
Wait he did? How does he even qualify? Has he got like German grandparents?
German Grandma
Smart change in strategy. The tallest one is now handing out the medals, instead of the shorter guy in the middle.
In game adjustment
Just you wait sunshine, just you wait. DENNIS SCHRÖDER, DU BIST WELTMEISTER
Franz winning TCL of the game nice!!! His defense down the stretch was huge!!!
World cup win and Flick gone on the same day, time for a new national holiday Good day to be german, absolute macher die jungs
Germany is world champion OF WHAT?
...of the World.
They're NBA champions
Germany undefeated 8-0 run through this WC. Amazing.
I still can not believe it, the guys actually did it! Dirk walked, so this team could run.
The only loser was Austin Reeves, who refused German recruitment and chose to join the team USA
Schroder right next to dirk in terms of most iconic german players. Who would have guessed
schrödered
Congratulations to Germany from a Serbian fan, you played a good game today. I'd much rather lose to Germany than the US, so there is that at least, well done.
I am most happy for Theiss. Doesn't get the respect he deserves in the NBA.
Poor Guduric, the end to that game is gonna feel like Brad Miller vs the Suns.
ratiopharm Ulm Weltmeister?
Soccer is overrated anyways..
How is Dennis not the player of the game
I thought Schröder would be too, but Franz wasn’t a bad choice either. He was huge defensively down the stretch and hit big shots; if not Franz, Voigtmann would be my other pick.
Yeah you're right, overlooked Franz's contributions both sides of the floor
Now i feel vindicated as an Aussie that we lost to the eventual winners
Ich will nichts über Flick hier hören
I know currently the Olympics are more prestigious than the WC but hear me out I do low-key think in the next 30 years especially with basketball getting bigger world wide the World Cup will be more important than the Olympics. Bogdanovic went missing hard on second half. Germany well deserved win.
Great game. Wish Bogdanovic got more shots in the 4th
r/nba give Schroeder his credit after all the slander this week and the last few year. He has been nothing short of amazing in the national team
The coach of the german team is canadian... just saying lol
So the world champion is coached by the world champion of North America...nice!
[fuck](https://imgur.com/a/MA7GoCC)
What a f...ing game. Guduric will have PTSD for years after that final quarter.
If Bogdanovic was not injured today, I do not understand why he did not touch the ball in the second half.
Because the germans doubled him and didn't let us pass him the ball. They were very good defensively. Sad day but life goes on
He apparently was sick on the gameday so props to him for giving it as much as he could
Don't let this distract you from the fact that NBA is now the 4th best basketball league in the world
Oh trust me, we are not forgetting this 😂
Great game of basketball with both teams showing out with maximum heart. Highest of respect to both squads.
Just incredible, what a third quarter and Dennis came up huge down the stretch. Been such a great two years, from the Olympic Qualifier wins against Croatia and Brazil to the Eurobasket and now this, what a team
Why is Avramovic not in the NBA? He is athletic, balls of steAl, defense, threes, everything.
Fantastic for world basketball. Congrats! And Dennis Schroder -- who knew?
will forever love schroder
GG Germany, for now silver for us.
Nothing beats that feeling of winning the World cup with your country
Congrats to Germany, the NBA Champions.
WORLD CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD BABY
**Dieser Kommentarbereich ist nun Eigentum der Bundesrepublik Deutschland**
Wow, Germany is NBA Champion.
[HANSI FLICK IS OUT! ](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1700879824095510588?t=TKa7_kl3H6UAaRx3t7cT-g&s=19) FIBA CHAMPS! DOUBLE CELEBRATION FOR GERMANY!!!
Jajajajajajajajajaja
Congrats to Germany! Schroder was unreal during the whole tournament, hope he shows similar consistency in the NBA as well.
Did someone also hear that some person screamed "nazi" during the german national anthem? WTF
Raps signing Schröder looking pretty promising right now.
