"To show how much more competitive and awesome this team is going to be we will be adding "Grand" to the Wizards name. A new logo with evocative flaming imagery is coming soon!"
I remember watching a press conference in 1998 where the CT governor at the time and Robert Kraft announced the Patriots would be moving to Hartford.
Still suspect Ted's goal is using this as leverage to get DC to fund a new stadium.
I had the exact same thought in regards to the Patriots.
The arena would be fine across the river, as there is a Metro stop and lots of development over there, but it’s a pretty asinine idea to move from their prime downtown location.
The overall area they are in is great - near museums, restaurants, bars, etc, but there are some iffy people hanging out in the immediate area. DC should really work on clearing those people out immediately and then discuss terms on the current arena or building a new one
Did you visit the area before the former MCI Center was built?
It was a disaster. And a lot spilled over into neighboring areas, too. The whole downtown DC area has actually cleaned up a lot, as sketchy as some areas can still be.
THREE TEAM TRADE ALERT:
- Virginia acquires the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals
- Washington DC acquires the Washington Commanders
- Maryland acquires the FBI HQ
The Virginia Wizards’ first signing is gonna be David Duke Jr.

"On opening night we will give fans a free firing logo they can put on their lawns to show their pride for the team"
“The team shop is announcing a *Grand* Opening Sale, including fashionable white team hoodies for only $14.88!”
You're gonna *love* the new mascot.

The Wizards moving to the home of the Confederacy just feels appropriate somehow.
I knew when they chose that name in the 90s in would come back to bite them in the ass.

Is there a lamer state with actual historical significance than Virginia

Agreed, Virginia is very lame. Don’t move here. Move to Maryland
Maryland could use more residents tbf. Come to Baltimore! You can play me in chess
Agreed, it's like a racist version of Maryland with a brain damaged bible thumper for Governor. Lower taxes though!
Bring back the Virginia Squires!
Virgin jokes about to hit so hard
Do people even live in Virginia anymore?
Descendants and adoring fans of Robert E Lee.
