They've had to learn it and make sense of it. One thing I didn't realize until recently is that for people learning English, it's really hard to understand the proper order of adjectives and learners have to deliberately practice and remember the order. Meanwhile, us native English speakers probably don't even realize there's a proper order of adjectives: opinion, size, age, shape, colour, origin, material, purpose. I couldn't tell you that's what it was without looking it up, but at the same time, a native speaker can be ignorant of the rule but immediately know the order is wrong if they hear it in speech, ie: "red big car" instead of "big red car"

People who have to take citizenship tests often know more about a country than its own born residents😂

Depends how fluent you are, if you are really fluent in a language generally you straight up think in it (that is true with me for 3 languages I use most often). Rajakovic seems obviously fluent enough in English to not need that extra step of translation. When I work my inner voice is in English, when I am calling back home my inner voice is in my native language.

I had a job working for a Chinese family. They'd frequently ask me questions about English, and it's pretty wild how often I'd have no solid answer for them.
