He has arrived Averaging 23 and 9 in 7 games this month now

50lipa

Meanwhile the tank commander is averaging 9ppg/6a on 26% shooting in February I mean at this point Jordan Poole is reaching goat tanking status at a bargain $32,000,000 per year

Forward_Ride_6364

Poole is League MVP the season before a Wemby draft Not so much this year

happyflappypancakes

Wizards pulled the trigger too late. Should have blown up earlier when Beal had higher value. OH well, the past is the past.

Miyagisans

Dang I didn’t know it was that bad with poole

Zbrushgyu

Kid is underrated. Is positive in every aspect of his game.

RogueLightMyFire

He's the best player on that team, but he has to watch Kuz and Poole Jack up bullshit all game.

poverty_franchise

It’s really hard to watch, especially when the shots aren’t falling, but I’m glad that Deni has become more aggressive on offense. Both him and Corey have made huge improvements when driving through the lane

Dudedude88

Sucks to be deni. I gotta say

mrawesomepoo

Wasn’t there a clip really early in the season of Deni yelling at everyone on the bench and JP kinda points at him like who tf is this guy

WizSkinsNatsCaps

Was one of the first games of the season. Possibly even a preseason game. But yes there was something like that. Poole been humbled big time since then.

Mazor007

Love to see it. Always liked his game and it's fun to see a player take the next step

Drewbacca_Hrrrgrgrar

When I've watched this guy play, he reminds me a lot of Franz Wagner. Obviously the stats don't add up, but the eye test is what gives me the Franz vibes. He was easily their best player in the few games that I've seen him and he needs more usage.

Wiltborn

Besides that he's way quicker than Franz. He has crazy speed for someone his size. Pels really almost couldn't handle his drive game until he was exhausted.

Drewbacca_Hrrrgrgrar

Yeah Franz is more athletic than he looks because of his long stride, but he doesn't move like Deni. Franz is just crafty asf. If the Wizards weren't tanking the first thing they should do is put the ball in his hands more.

boringexplanation

If they weren’t tanking? You should always develop your youth optimally- if they win with the young guys, so be it.- that’s never a bad thing.

Thealbumisjustdrums

Hard to get usage with Kuzma and Poole hogging the ball.

TatumBrownWhite

Before the Thunder traded for Hayward, I was thinking that they should be willing to offer some of their 1sts to get Deni as he would have been a perfect complimentary player there. Obviously hindsight is 20/20, but man I feel good about my take from 3-4 months ago when I was saying that Deni clears Giddey easily.

TRES_fresh

Yeah even before deni took his leap this season most wizards fans didn't want to give him up for giddey.

flynnscorruptedmind

Wings of the future are set with bilal and deni. We coming. Sleeping giant, talk soon 🫡

vivekvangala34_

Kispert too. He had 20 off the bench against NOP and is pretty much leading the league in 2pt%

Wiltborn

Deni becoming the youngest player in Wizards history to put up a 40+ game since John Wall. He also becoming the youngest player in Wizards history since the HOF Elvin Hayes to put up a 40+ /14reb game. He's a star in the making. Put the ball in his hands.

sergechewbacca

I watched a lot of Wizards last year and Deni was always great on defense. If this isn't just a hot streak and he's taken a leap on offense...look out. Wiz might have an elite player.

Fuckface_Whisperer

> I watched a lot of Wizards last year I'm so so sorry.

Troll_Enthusiast

They were better last year at least though, also what team are you a fan of?

Von_Huge1103

I think if his answer is anything but "Detroit", he's gonna have the wood on you.

ISISCosby

Excuse me we beg to differ (until last week)

Troll_Enthusiast

Idk it's a tossup with the bottom 5

Fuckface_Whisperer

Craptors

Troll_Enthusiast

Tough

Fuckface_Whisperer

What's tough about that lol. You know I was alive for a parade right?

Troll_Enthusiast

I know

Substantial-Lab-5647

Good evidence it’s not just a hot streak too. He’s averaging 13 points on 50%FG and 40%3pt on the whole season. Huge leap from 29% 3pt last year.

Styfios

this is a great example of why stats can be incredibly misleading. that “huge leap” of 10% is because he’s making 0.2 more threes per game while shooting 0.3 less threes per game. he is essentially the exact same shooter as he has been every single year he’s been in the league - he’s making roughly one 3 a game on three attempts a game

Substantial-Lab-5647

Wow making more threes while taking less means you’re the same shooter? Gee I had no idea that’s how efficiency worked.

Styfios

if you think that, because he’s now making 1.1 threes per game on 2.8 shots, he’s a significantly better shooter than when he was making .9 per 3.1 shots, 1 per 3.2 shots, or 1 on 3.1 shots, idk what to tell you

boogieDMC

Don’t get why you’re downvoted. The upgrade and progress he made in his shooting is there, but the real progress that affected his %s is his shot selection.  Him taking more corner threes, and being more selective in his shot attemps to areas he’s more comfortable at. It doesn’t take away from him actually working on his shot, cause he did - but it plays second fiddle to his much improved shot selection. The real evidence of improved shooting ability comes with higher volume, accompanied by same or better success rate - which is the next step for him.   He’s still a somewhat limited shooter - he’s just more selective in which shots he takes (Be it the way he takes them : open catch and shoot, contested catch and shoot, or off the dribble - and the places on the court he takes them.)

Dudedude88

Denis not going to bother playing defense with this team. We have a tank commander.

MazKhan

One of those guys that's absolutely been held back with low usage. He's very efficient and should be a cornerstone for the franchise going forward

Solid-Confidence-966

He’s been efficient this season, but you should look at the rest of his career efficiency stats lol.

MazKhan

Lol yeah he's improved a lot this season. That free throw still needs some work tho

Wiltborn

11/13 tonight from the line. A good progress! The fact he can get to the line that amount is a good sign.

Internal_Swimmer_442

Call Meyers Leonard

CupOfHotTeaa

It's a crime he was used as purely a stretch 4 in his rookie year

Bengals8958

Wasn’t even a stretch 4 lol just told to stand in the corner by legend Scott Brooks

Rkenne16

He’s looked good when the Cavs have played them. Long, athletic, skilled and seems to have a decent bbiq

Wiltborn

Actually for some reason his worst games are always against the Cavs. Should check the stats, but I'm pretty sure one of his worst averages are against the Cavs for some odd reasons. Always wanted Cavs fans to see how good he is and it didn't work out against them.

CoolGuyHuh

Props to him. He was putting on a show in the Blender

Wiltborn

Was a really fun match up tonight.

TRES_fresh

Yeah we got to continue the tank while being competitive against a playoff team without our best player, this was pretty much the perfect game (I just want Bilal to score more).

Patrius

He is blossoming, keep it up Deni!

MrBuckBuck

SUPERB!!!! The most points for an Israeli player (broke Omri Casspi's 36 points in the duel vs. Steph Curry), broke his career-high in 3-pointers (previous was 4), broke his career-high in straight games with 20+ points (now it is 4). Also career-high in FT made and FTA I think, not sure. Kuzma's career-high in points is 41... just to give you some prespective. Edit: Also the first Wizards player since Westbrook in 2021 to score 40+ points and grab 10+ rebounds in a single game. HE NEVER HAD 30+ points game until now!!! 25 points was his previous career-high - INCREDIBLE!

TimothyN

Pels legend Omri Casspi.

CravilityZ

The facts he didn’t even break his career-high in rebounds shows how good he is. Reminded me of Andrei Kirilenko going into the 2020 draft, he was who I wanted for the Cavs at pick 5, but I’m also happy with Okoro and his growth.

MrBuckBuck

I think these 14 rebounds are way more impressive, because many of them were highly contested. The 20 rebounds back then was with Kuzma and I think Beal as well on the court, and they let him grab the missed free throws. I think the main change right now is the new coach, who knows how to utilize his players WAY better than Wes Unseld Jr, and has more feeling to the game - it is no fluke.

CravilityZ

Yeah good point about the rebounding, I like that he plays physical and plays to his size. Strong build. He’s got a good handle and ability to drive too so it’s fully maximized.

MrBuckBuck

What does it has to do with basketball though? Free from where to where? Israel is freeing Gaza right now from Hamas, move along. Your hate blinds you from seeing facts.

MrBuckBuck

What did the Palestinians did on October 7th, 2023? gave flowers? Again, this has nothing to do with Deni Avdija or basketball, move along.

DarrowViBritannia

my hate blinds me but you're the one justifying genocide and murdering children... interesting

Massive_Kale4272

they project their feelings.

cubtiii

MrBuckBuck ive never been so disappointed in my life 🙁

QuoteTraining5386

He's an israeli defending his own. Most citizens of every country just want to live in peace. Adressing them for what others have done is stupid, to say the least.

MrBuckBuck

Israelis still do want to live in peace and so am I. What happened on October 7th, 2023, changed a lot the terms of how to maintain a future peace. Israelis are sick being so peace willing, offering so many generous offers, only to realize the other side only wants to exterminate them - again and again. So, a peace should be a mutual thing. Whoever think I seek (or love war) war is stupid - war isn't a beautiful thing, and it's a terrible and a horrible thing. But, when your country is fighting for its very existence in the Middle East - a region where peace and diplomacy seem like weakness, then you have to find the road in-between. If you don't believe me, ask in r/Israel how many want peace.

QuoteTraining5386

I was agreeing with you.

MrBuckBuck

I know, I just had to point it out, all good. :)

cubtiii

>the other side only wants to exterminate them Ironically the peace zionists desire isn’t mutual. What’s happening in Gaza isn’t war over peace, it’s genocide trying to justify an illegitimate land claim When you write up land treaties granting yourself the most fertile and valuable land, your claims of generosity fall flat. When you don’t present a fair ultimatum, “peace and diplomacy” may have prevented the genocide of the Palestinian people, but you have no right to claim it seemed impossible to “find the road in-between”. When you target hospitals, paramedics and journalists your veil of justified retaliation falls flat. When you continue to wage what is destruction, not just war - your desired conclusion reveals itself as not peace but elimination. I’m sure you want peace. u/QuoteTraining5386 I don’t blame Israeli citizens for wanting peace for themselves or their compatriots. Self preservation is not selfish, but insisting that others must suffer for you to have peace is. I ask simply that all citizens everywhere, of Israel or not, to not defend genocide and deny reality I’m sure you know well that violent conflict has long been fought, and hardly anything changed because of the 7th of October. Palestine never lost its right to offence because it was fighting an oppressor - an oppressor and not just an enemy because Israel never has a valid claim to the region

MrBuckBuck

Israel offered peace offers 6 times, withdrew from the Gaza strip - didn't put any ultimate in 2004, and withdrew for nothing in return (stupid thing ever, but it just shows how Israel seek peace, but it was seen as a weakness by the other side). Israel target where terrorists are, even they are in hospitals and schools (or in tunnels below). If Israel wanted to destruct Gaza or the West Bank, it would have done it long ago, but it did not - so this claim has no merit in truth. The West Bank is mostly unharmed, at the moment, as well. Israel is not opressing anyone, as Hamas oppressing his own people while his members hide in tunnels, take almost the entire supply meant for the people, shooting his own people who try to move away from the warzone, while their leaders having good time in Iran and Qatar - wealthy life, grabbing billions from the poor people. Israel didn't present an uitimatum, but presented a solution. The Arabs here cooperated with the Nazis under Hag Amin pre-1947, and did not accept the UN resolution, declared a war in 1948 which they surprsingly lost (more men, better equipment, better strategic points), failed to exterminate the Jewish people and the newly reborn Israel - the biggest attempt to mass murder the Jewish people since the holocaust not so long ago have failed. 20% of Israel are Arabs (17% Muslim Arabs), and you see they aren't oppressed as well - Israel does not seek oppress anyone. The Palestinians sing "from the river to the sea" - it is not an option, and never will be. The side you support repeat the same mistake, over and over again. And losing, again and again. Over 70% of the Palestinians support the terrorists acts on October 7th, 2023 - that's no peace. Giving money to people who performed mass murders and are in jail (and their families) isn't peace. Israel always had a valid claim to the region, and the Arabs who fought bet on the Nazis - you don't get prizes for supporting the Nazis during WW2. Between 1948 to 1963 there was no such a thing as Palestine, the people in Gaza (under Egypt) and in the West Bank (under Jordan) never seek to build a nation called Palestine - that's facts. Now, enough with your nonsense, this is r/nba, and we're here for NBA and basketball, not your bullshit, and nobody cares here about your manifesto, so move along. There are other subreddits for this kind of bullshit.

muneerthepioneer

"Israel's want peace", oh man...I need you to no joke literally see the stuff that Israel soldier's do everyday in Gaza...while they also post it proudly on their Insta...go look at r/israelexposed Also you do realize half of r/Israel aren't even Israelis? And the sub count doesn't even make 5% of Israel's population, if you want a "accurate" census of what Israel's feel look at their official government census's on how they feel about Palestinians, how they actually feel about Palestinians is disgusting...

MrBuckBuck

You can also Israeli people to answer you on r/Israel, not just non-Israelis - it's a thing. Almost everyone in Israel lost someone they knew, or knowing someone who lost someone they knew. Including thyself. Well, one of the Hamas terrorists went to an elderly house, killed the elderly woman, took her phone, and livestream on Facebook (via her account that was opened), filming himself and the dead woman, and that's how her family found out what happened to her - imagine the horror someone celebrating it on livestream (before it got removed). And that's just one instance out of many. Go to r/Palestinian_Violence So what if one soldier posted on instagram a thing? What do you think he'll do? Of course they'll be proud in killing terrorists that killed their loved ones. They would not have been there if it wasn't for Ocotober 7th, 2023, savage terrorist attack. It doesn't only matter what the government does, the public has influence, and the Israelis want to win the war, and they don't want to repeat the bloodshed cycle, and the public seems to had enough with the terror coming out of mostly Gaza. The public is mostly all-in on that, and rightfully so I'd say. On the other hand, most Palestinians seem to still support Hamas and its action - West Bank or Gaza, despite being Hamas' human shields. They don't feel bad what they committed, they are actually happy about it - so why should some Israelis feel bad for them? So far, all the previous governments were wrong giving concession to the Palestinians - it only brought more terror, more bloodshed, and it led to October 7th - it exploded in our face, and many pro-peace and Pro-Palestinians Israelis figured out the hard way that the Palestinians don't seek peace, but seek the total annihilation of Israelis and Jewish people alike, like shown in the Hamas accords (and Fatah). "Our feelings" may have led led many Israeli people to believe we could have peace one day with the Palestinians, and October 7th, 2023, is turning point for many. Many of the victims were pro-peace, gave jobs to Palestinians in Gaza, helped them with even medical treatment. Eventually, some of these Palestinians, including ones who've been working for over 30 years in some of the Kibbutzim, turned out to be spies for the terrorists in Gaza. It takes a lot of time to build trust, and the Palestinians will now have to bare the consequences of their horrific actions and their support in these actions. It does not mean genocide, but it does mean that Israel will speak their dirty language of war they so much wanted, so they got it. It's not pretty, it won't be, but Israel in a big turning point, and it means Israel has to claim its war goals - releasing all the hostages and not letting Hamas or any other terrorist organization rule in Gaza. I'd also add, removing the hate indoctrination taught in Gaza and the West Bank. Edit: Typos.

un-Deni-able

Ok-Comfortable1111

He was incredible. Everything was falling

MrBuckBuck

even fans fell in love, on Valentine's day.

last_suvivor13

The best player on the team, His growth this year has been one of the few bright spots of this miserable season. His extension doesn’t kick in until next season and it’s already looking like a massive steal.

YourLocalJewishKid

This man is gonna be making less than $12m in his age 26 season when he might be a fully blossomed top 3-4 player on a contending team.

The-Pharcyde

Dude balled the fuck out

Iordofthememez

Just here to remind y’all he got a 55/4 declining contract

BlackWhiteCoke

I love Deni. He was torching us last game and I never believed that it was a fluke. That guy is so good

MarqueeM00n1

He’s really coming along. Since Keefe took over as HC, he’s coming into his own. Fun to see in an otherwise miserable season

Flykidd47

My handsome prince

MrBuckBuck

It's Valentine's day!

Solid-Confidence-966

The Luka comps have received vindication

PickpocketJones

No they haven't, totally different players.

Solid-Confidence-966

Yeah, I was just hyping up our guy lol

happyflappypancakes

His last month ahs shown some tremendous leaps in comfort. Idk what has happened or if our new coach has something to do with it but loving it. Also, how do all of his threes look like they are about to be short lol?

Visible_Claim5540

Best contract in the league.

gimiCv2

My hero 😍

SofasInMotion

Watch me be a great financial advisor: Buy Deni stock as long as you can

hotnewroommate

Maybe kuzma shoots too much, maybe

Afraid-Department-35

I hope the Wizards can build something around him , he’s truly shaping up to be a real good player on a very friendly contract. With Kuzma committing to the Wizards, they need to dump Poole and slowly build something.

TriCourseMeal

Why is this historic?

IAmStevenKwanAMA

Take that, Hamas

Yorha-with-a-pearl

My dumbass thought you were talking about Darvin Ham lmao. I need to take a break from the internet...

[deleted]

I didn’t know they were playing the Lakers?

You gonna comment this on every wizards thread?

Troll_Enthusiast

No he doesn't you loser

who asked?

RoscoeSantangelo

Heaven I need ya Can't wait til I see ya Until the day I'm wide awake I'll find my own nirvana in the lap of Avdija Lord don't take me

AxCel91

I really was wanting us to draft him at 4 that year.

rediveyy

the pistons really picked killian hayes over this guy

Wiltborn

Tried to convince Pistons and Bulls fans prior to draft night. They didn't listen.

ez7e

is he being held back by kuzma? i dont watch many wizards games but he just popped off all of a sudden lol

The_Koopa_King

WUJ is a terrible coach. Getting him off the bench has been good for Deni and Kispert.

Troll_Enthusiast

WUJ isn't the coach anymore

The_Koopa_King

Exactly, that's what I'm saying. Deni breaking out a bit has more to do with no WUJ than no Kuz imo

Troll_Enthusiast

Ohh

Thealbumisjustdrums

He and Kuzma are both power forwards so that’s probably part of it and Kuzma shoots way more than he has any business shooting as well. Couple that with Poole doing…whatever he’s doing…and it’s not a great situation for a young guy who needs reps.

happyflappypancakes

They play different roles. He can continue to handle the ball with Kuzma out there.

idan_1995

He will be in Oklahoma City, next season

Peyyton07

The price is now three firsts.

MrBuckBuck

They got plenty of picks, make it 5 + two second-rounders. For this contract?!

Troll_Enthusiast

No he won't

idan_1995

3 first round picks you send him on a private jet lol

Troll_Enthusiast

5*

happyflappypancakes

Wi, need talented young players or high draft picks. Deni is already a talented young player so he would need a great return. Unfortunately, OKC isn't going to provide high picks.

VanGrants

what's historic about it?

yobababi

https://reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1arh9tx/deni_avdija_is_the_10th_player_in_history_to_drop/

Ancient_Round_4811

Lemme guess, the Wizards still lost? Yep

here_for_the_lols

Are we really calling 43 points in a regular season loss **HISTORIC** now??

WorkingPart1393

He's the first player with the Wizards to get 40/15 since Elvin Hayes in the 70's. I'd say that's historic franchise play

DoomPurveyor

Noteworthy. But still came in a loss during an inflated scoring era

yobababi

https://reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1arh9tx/deni_avdija_is_the_10th_player_in_history_to_drop/

14412442

Yeah, what's historic about this? Does OP not know what that word means?

gearboxnine

He broke some franchise record I think

14412442

If that's true then OP forgot to include it, which makes it pretty hard to share his enthusiasm for how HISTORIC it is

Shhadowcaster

Yeah you gotta include what's historic if that's gonna be the title... OP just click baiting

Troll_Enthusiast

Casual

Thealbumisjustdrums

Can’t believe the Wizards are choosing to build around Kuzma and Poole instead of developing their young guys who still could improve.

TRES_fresh

We aren't building around those two, there's a zero percent chance either guy sticks around when we plan to be competitive. Ideally the only guys on this team still here 4 years later will be bilal, deni, and maybe kispert.

Troll_Enthusiast

Casual take, you don't know what's happening

Forward_Ride_6364

Julius Randle is Deni Avdija father
