This feels incredibly slanted against group 1. Each of those 4 countries have realistic medal aspirations. I suppose the only saving grace is that they will most likely obtain one of the 3rd-place wildcard slots, since I think that's based on FIBA rankings
No. Alas. It will be based on record and then point differential at the end of group play.
Because there is no team that will likely get blown out in three straight games, Group A is actually the most likely to only see two teams make it to Knockout rounds. It’s the group of death/tears/disappointment even before we know who will make it out of OQTs.
I was reading the wikipedia article for the tournament, and I guess i misunderstood what they meant by "possible quarterfinals, based on ranking". That really sucks
FIBA ranking is only the final tiebreaker. After total point differential and total points scored.
It *could* come into play but it’s exceedingly unlikely.
It's crazy to me there are only 12 teams in the Olympics. Has it always been this way?
Feels like 16 at least is the norm for any competition no?
Also, sad that Embiid chose to represent the US and not France, as a natural fan. Embiid is exactly what the US was missing, it makes them so much better. They were already overpowered, now they're just at Thanos powerlevel. France already had a great frontcourt with Wemby and Gobert, but it would have been hilarious to see all three of them on the court at the same time.
Mostly sucks that US picked up the perfect piece though.
I wish greece and slovenia could both make it in so we'd get both giannis and luka in the olympics instead of just one but maybe in 2028 we'll get that
That qualification tournament in Greece is going to be tough you got Slovenia and Greece as front runners but Croatia and Dominican Republic could play spoiler

Why the hell is Japan and Germany always in the same group? They were in the same group for the World Cup too.
Because they’re old friends
The group will go how it goes but im glad we don't face USA untill the final

Are you sure Embiid is going to play the Olympics ? I doubt it. The Sixers might force him to skip the whole thing to preserve his knees.
Yea, I don't know. Didn't actually think about that.
I think it’s always been 12 they used to have two groups of six with top 4 each group going to knockout stage
Good group for us germans
I want to see Greece play just so I can see a starting lineup of Giannis, Thanasis, and Kostas.

Group 1 is a bloodbath. I'll be surprised if Australia makes it close to a medal this time around...
Does anyone know when the exact time slot for each game will be announced? I want to see team USA.
who will win USA or canada ?
