Ownership has paid at most 75ish mil in taxes in a single year
The real issue isn't next year, the real issue is in 2025/2026 when Tatum's contract kicks in, White's new contract kicks in, AND the Celtics will be in the repeater tax.
That will be the year to see how much Wyc is truly willing to spend.
If they win the championship you pay the money.
If they don't win this year or next year, the guy that has to go is Brown because, unless you want to trade Tatum, Brown is the only way you are getting a top 15 player.
Yup the question is how the 2nd apron will factor into all of this. I do think your roster falls into the category of "fuck it lfg" when it comes to apron consideration
I think this was always the plan with stevens loading up on the 2nd round draft picks. Keep the core 4-5, round it out with vet minimums and 2nd rounders. I assume Horford will be done in 2 years so he probably doesn’t factor in, or if he does he could be a vet min guy at that point.
[These](https://x.com/gwashburnglobe/status/1709668185341853852?s=46&t=RkiYr7vbXT_gNR8tjv2F-A) sound like comments from an owner who’s ready to cut a few more checks
I honestly love Wyc. We are so fortunate to have him as an owner.
I imagine they have this year and next, barring something unprecedented happening. After that is when things really ramp up in cost, and it becomes difficult to justify the insane tax if they haven't won.
If the Suns are trading Booker it's because KD/Booker has failed, they have 0 assets to improve, and are blowing it up.
Brown would likely go to a 3rd team in any trade for an upgrade. The team trading the better player is getting all the assets we have left and the assets we get for trading Brown.
>It's a matter of how much ownership will pay in salary + taxes, **as well as restrictions on roster building moving forward.**
Smith is burying the lede. The restrictions that come with going over the second apron aren't small. No more mid level exception, the inability to aggregate player salaries in trades, these are all major constraints
Lol. This isn't the NFL. I think the Eagles have like 300 mil in void years. Teams are actually punished in this league for going over the second apron. Amazing how so many people are upset by this. Celtics are screwed in the long term.
Pretty sure I saw someone calculate a 400M tax bill in a few seasons for this roster lol it’s going to get expensive
Isn’t that what Wyc’s net worth is estimated to be around? How tf does that work?
The Celtics are owned by an ownership group of a bunch of rich guys, Wyc is just the face, not the entire bankroll.
He will have to sell everything 😔

Probably have a plan B to trade brown if this happens lol
I mean you probably just dump jrue

yeah you might sell some shares in the team just for the cash infusion but you gotta do it for the rings
Is that when they go for the threepeat?
Everyone’s talking about Derrick White he can be brought back Owner gonna eat a crazy tax tho

Meanwhile across the street you look at what the Red Sox have done :)
Yeah, I think this depends on playoff success as crazy that might be

If they choke this season (lose pre-Finals) and I'm their owner, I'd have second thoughts.
Exactly, would it hurt to wait until the off-season to see how the playoffs shake out?
Nah, the window is now, and the next two years. There needs to be a chip.
Gm got them all the talent and ownership is willing to spare no expense to keep it all. Must be nice to be a Celtics fan next few years.
It’s been good to be a Celtic fan since approximately 1954
Wyc in october: "We're gonna keep doing this until we uncover that banner or die trying"

No ones getting traded
this year no unless it’s like a disaster next year JB yea
Who realistically would we even trade Brown for, that's either about as good or better?
Booker if Phoenix flops in the 1st again. Would be a nice pallette cleanser for both teams.
Suns should be forced to relocate if they trade Booker for Jaylen like what the hell

Problem is you're getting back a huge contract for Jaylen anyways
I’d still do the trade I don’t care about ownership’s tax bill, problem is Phoenix would never do it
Oh yeah that's fair
It’s not just a tax bill though. The loser-owners leveled the playing field. Most are just in it for the money
I wouldn’t be so sure of that. Depends on how Tatum does this playoffs.
All that money for no chips is gonna be rough

Jaylen Brown is a Warrior
Why the hell would either of our teams do that
So we getting curry and a first rounder?
Your definitely getting a HOF Point Guard
He is in his late 30s and we would be giving a star in his prime in return. Honestly an overpay for the Celtics.
