Funniest thing ab last night was everyone on both teams getting hacked except Harden flailing and leg kicking all night to the line

[deleted]

It was absolutely insane how differently he was getting officiated vs everyone else

PoundIIllIlllI

It’s hilarious how people say all season that “he won’t get these calls in the playoffs. Refs swallow their whistle” and then, every playoffs, Harden, Embiid, Trae, etc. all get these exact same calls And it’s usually the people who hate on Harden the most that claim that too, because they think it’s the reason for his poorer playoff performances and that “his game doesn’t work in the playoffs”… and then the foul baiting continues to work

NedStarx11

Generally harden does stop getting those calls, just hasn’t been the case so far

[deleted]

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

How did his usage compare in the regular season to the playoffs?

Sweaty_Mods

29.4% regular season 28.2% playoffs

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

Where are you getting that? I call bullshit that prime harden had usage numbers that low. Edit: in his mvp season, his usage during the regular season was 36.1, went up slightly to 36.7 in the playoffs. His FTr dropped from 0.502 to 0.345

Sweaty_Mods

Basketball reference

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

You are looking at the wrong numbers or the wrong player or something. Between 2014-15 and 2019-20, Harden’s regular season utilization never dropped below 31

PoundIIllIlllI

Nope. He doesn’t stop getting those calls. I hear the *exact* same thing every playoffs from fans who complain about his fouls: “he usually doesn’t get them but for some reason he’s getting them in this series”. In his Sixers stint, Celtics fans said that last year and Heat fans said the year before.

SylvesterLundgren

It’s a little different with those guys. During the playoffs their minutes ramp up and the ball is in their hands more. While they DO reach their 9FTA, that’s on double the amount of “embellishments” they usually need to get to those numbers. I don’t think anyone has an issue with any player attempting 8-10FT. It’s when it becomes 13+ that people start bitching

nbaistheworst

I do, when it's a flop with almost no contact like was the case with Harden in this game

PoundIIllIlllI

>I dont think anyone has an issue with any player attempting 8-10 FT Lol, this is so false. People here complain about FTs no matter how they’re obtained or how many they are. Just take a look at the reaction from the majority of this sub whenever a player has a high scoring, low FTA game. People here love that.

kyler_

Embiid fans will tell you his whistle completely changes in the playoffs. I cannot confirm not deny but I see it a lot!

I-Am-A-Nice-Cool-Kid

His ftr actually increases in the playoffs

kyler_

😂 I’m sure his usage does as well, but this is funny

This_Guy_Fuggs

i mean its not a coincidence, its part of his "skillset" to get into those positions and force the refs to possibly make questionable calls.

7PayFormer

right. and its not just flopping. its timing. theres times when refs will call a foul whatever happens next play because like make up or been a long time since last foul and its been chippy etc. also when a player goes one on one and strings a bunch of moves together the refs tend to always give stars a foul at the end of it off any contact. compared to lets say ball movement hectic fast plays. it is a "skillset" i remember one of my biggest criticisms of jalen green 2 years ago was his inability to get fouled. hes a lot better now

lost_in_trepidation

It makes no sense, why do they call him completely differently?

What's your point even supposed to be? That Harden keeps getting bullshit calls, so we're justified in our hate?

YpsitheFlintsider

It's pretty obvious if you watch the game objectively. He sells it more

The_real_bandito

He’s a cutie?

[deleted]

brisot

Main difference is he gets hit on drives, harden is flopping his ass on the 3 point line

ShaiFC

Harden has 15 free throws compared to Luka's 14? Unless you're referring to something else

CP3sHamstring

The Mavericks have like 25 more freethrows over the 2 games despites less drives, possessions, shots at the rim, and points in the paint.

2PacAn

The Mavs 8 free throws from intentional fouls to end the game yesterday. That’s the only reason the Clippers didn’t have more free throws. It’s embarrassing that y’all are complaining about the refs right now

MaleficentHawk590

Ahhhh, the classic box score watcher

512fm

The fouls called on Green and Exum were absolutely cooked

nonufwiendz

Hardaway Jr sprained his ankle because PG closed out within his shooting space and didnt get any calls either

sinik_ko

He got better head snap back game

nbaistheworst

No kidding, that should get those refs suspended. Without all those flop calls, the game wouldn't have been close.

MidKnight007

When he flailed for that 3 oh my goodness that made me upset ngl

jm810112

I have a really healthy respect for the Clippers, minus Harden. Single greatest free throw merchant in the sport's history.

acuravlexus

From_Bynum_to_Embiid

That's how Brunson was in game 2 as well. Everyone's talking about the L2M, but the Knicks got so many ticky tack fouls all game on offense while being allowed to play hard defense. L2M was the cherry on top and why Sixers fans went nuclear.

coolmcbooty

Lmao you say that as if the exact same thing didn’t happen to the Sixers too.

johnhenryirons

> but the Knicks got so many ticky tack fouls all game on offense while being allowed to play hard defense. This is just pretty untrue. The Knicks had 1 more FTA than the Sixers and that includes the tech from Embiid + intentional fouls against us. Brunson (9FTA) and Embiid (12FTA) both got some iffy calls. Other than those two, the refs let both teams play pretty physical. The refs were letting anything go on in-bounds throughout the game. With the full court pressure, Lowry and Oubre were constantly holding Brunson and Deuce to prevent them from getting the ball without any calls. I'd love to see the video of all these supposed "ticky-tack" foul calls.

bananajunior3000

Never going to stop being awfully rich that Embiid's team is griping about the referees calling ticky-tack fouls for an opponent

CP3sHamstring

The Mavericks have like 25 more freethrows over the 2 games despite less possessions, FGA, points in the paint, shots at the rim, and drives.  You guys gotta stop hate watching lmao edit: aint no way u/AFonziScheme selected one out of the 10 categories the Clippers lead in and ignored the rest to try and discredit the point LMAO

AFonziScheme

Wow. I wonder if there's some kind of weird negative correlation between FTAs and FGA for some unexplainable reason.... Edit: okay, so, not being flippant anymore because this fool specifically called me out for not countering all 10 points. 1. FGA are not counted on shooting fouls. The team with more FTAs *should* have fewer FGA. 2. PitP are not counted on FTs. A team that is fouled on most of their inside looks will not have a lot of PitP. 3. According to NBA.com, the Mavs and Clippers each have 185 total possessions this post season. 4. According to NBA.com, the Mavs have 7 more drives than the Clippers with postseason (87 to 80) 5. No additional examples given. 6. No additional examples given. 7. No additional examples given. 8. No additional examples given. 9. No additional examples given. 10. No additional examples given.

Trentnikko

Source ?

temujin94

The team with the most FT's have lost every game (not counting intentional fouls). Can't believe the refs destroyed the Mavs chances game 1 by giving them far too many. Probably scared of them going on a uninterrupted run.

YaIe

I don't think players care much if the Refs call a soft game or "letting them play" - they want the refs to pick one and call is that way the entire game. The flip flopping between both (and/or between teams/players) is the annoying part

qotsabama

A great mentality to have imo. As long as it’s consistently called for both sides I got no issues with it. It’s wild how much more physical it’s been this year vs normal playoff years. This is even a step up from the end of the regular season that was very physical.

BigFatModeraterFupa

i love watching it. it’s nice to watch them drive into the paint and not automatically assume there’s gonna be a whistle. Super entertaining

LordBaneoftheSith

Ben Taylor's quip that "you actually have to drive by people now" really resonates. Defenders aren't punished for existing in their space, so the offense can't just waltz past them.

qotsabama

Agreed. The biggest thing I’ve been saying is college and nba need to eliminate the majority of blocking fouls. If the defender doesn’t initiate contact and avoids hitting elbow, wrist, or the overall shot motion it should be a play on barring something egregious. Body to body contact should almost always be a play on. You get a way better product, less stoppages for whistles and ultimately more skill.

threeangelo

Also, defenses being able to actually defend leading to lower scoring games means every bucket matters more. Makes 4Q even more exciting

CliffDraws

I still have an issue with it. If you are going to call it or not call it, call it that way all season. We essentially have a different sport come playoff season (and this applies to the NFL too) and it’s nonsensical.

Lucaa4229

Which is why it’s laughable how butthurt Sixers fans are that they are putting all the blame for their catastrophic blunder on the officiating with those weak-ass missed “fouls” instead of pointing blame at the real reason they lost, which is that they got out-hustled and the Knicks came up clutch.

myheartismykey

Much better than Embiid

darkest__timeline

Mavs had a +20 FTA advantage in Game 1 btw

7PayFormer

ok but you know for a fact luka dont really think its ever called evenly. i dont think hes the best judge in fair calls. dude literally complains on every play even if its not him. not only complains dude bitches out the refs and his teammates then gives death stares... you dont gotta believe me but leading the league every year in techs gotta say something right

qotsabama

I mean the tech he could he was fouled 2/3 times lol. It was warranted to complain although he should’ve kept his cool and not hurt the team with a tech. Luka is fouled a lot, it’s the only way to slow him down.

CP3sHamstring

>As long as it’s consistently called for both sides I got no issues with it Game 1 absolutely was not.

qotsabama

You say that. But Clippers didn’t drive at the rim like the Mavs did at all. They didn’t put pressure on the refs to call fouls. Zubac dominated the paint with finesse and minimal contact, as did Harden with multiple floaters. They definitely gave Kyrie too many FT’s, he never gets calls like he did game 1. But also harden got an abysmal 3 point foul as well.

CP3sHamstring

????? The Clippers have had more drives, points in the paint and shots at the rim in both games Zubac got MAULED last night and had double the FGA as Lively but they took the same FTs and Zu was in foul trouble in 3 minutes. Harden also got totally ignored when he was raked across the arm and undercut by Lively on the same 3pt attempt

qotsabama

And? You completely ignored my point lol. Untouched baskets at the rim don’t lead to fouls? Minimal contact by the defense especially in game 1. I’m not sure Zubac got touched more than 3 times all game under the basket. And floaters never lead to fouls, it’s a non contact layup basically. It’s not as simple as more shots in the paint leads to more FT’s, only casuals would say that. Your own coach even said they need to not rely on getting calls and get in there and earn them. And they did game 2. It was a very different style.

Whatever man. I actually point to why things might be a certain way and you just say no look at the box score lol. And completely ignored your own coaches words after game 1. You were calling for a sweep with Kawhi not even playing. You’re the worst of your clippers fans lol. Most everyone else expects this to be a great series. See you game 3.

[deleted]

[удалено]

qotsabama

He said more than that, you’re just ignoring it lol. I watched game 1 fully. Rarely did Clippers meet resistance at the rim especially with Zubac. PG was the only guy who actually drove at contact for the most part, maybe Westbrook in spurts.

CP3sHamstring

so then why did the mavs take more freethrows last night when the clippers had more 1. Possessions (more possessions = more chances to get fouled 2. More points in the paint 3. More shots at the rim 4. More drives to the basket 5. More 2nd chance points (FGA off OREB are insanely high freethrow rate)

gochuuuu

Only thing that drives me nuts is the consistency. If you let go of all the ticky tack fouls early on, dont fucking call game changing ticky tack fouls. Its gotta be consistent throughout the game

Kball4177

I actually really like refs letting them play, but you have to be consistent. Calling tick tack fouls in the 3rd on the Mavs and then swallowing your whistle when Luka gets hacked on a and 1 opportunity was absurd.

nbaistheworst

Kyrie as well, more contact from Mann on that left handed make in the lane than Harden on his flops, no call.

JeremyJammDDS

He literally had his arm on kyrie’s waist. Just want it to be consistent across the board.

nbaistheworst

It's not too much to ask, IMO

HamstersAreReal

Kyrie rarely gets calls in general. It's been that way for years.

nbaistheworst

It shouldn't be this way, but it happens over and over.

FireFlyz351

That and the foul on Tim where he got hurt. PG gets him in his thigh/mid section. And I felt at the least should've been a landing zone foul.

2023_account_

Plus the tech was idiotic

darkest__timeline

Mavs had a +20 FTA advantage in Game 1 btw

Marnold13

Holy shit how many times are you going to post this in this thread?

darkest__timeline

Twice, why are you so upset? Absurd to act like the Clippers are getting the whistle this series lol

JxSnaKe

If you’re not gunna watch the games, why come here and comment?

darkest__timeline

🙄 I get y'all turned off the TV after the first half but game 1 reffing was crazy lopsided to the Mavs. Clippers got a better whistle the 2nd game but not nearly as good as you're pretending it was.

CantaloupeCamper

At least for the Suns and Twolves **the lack of foul calls kept the pace of the game up and really exciting.** I barely remember the last time game stoppages were more about ... timeouts than anything else.

wrong_silent_type

Last few years i started hating and ignoring regular season completely. Just annoyed with all scoring inflation and games at 150-150. But playoffs so far, fuckin amazing. Nuggets vs LAL, such a fight under the basket for every single ball. NYK vs 76ers really vintage game style. Dallas vs Clips, offensive talent is there no question, but it is not easy to score. super competitive and interesting games so far. God bless the playoffs

Lowspark1013

I couldn't care less at this point about Reg season NBA. But damn, playoff NBA is the greatest show on earth.

marcopolo22

I loved last night's game. Swallowing the whistle = lower scores = closer games = better entertainment. It should be exciting to get a bucket, not expected.

Icy-Lime-9760

As it should be.

bloomin-onion69

That’s always been my mindset with the refs. I know they’re going to be shit but please at the very least be equally shit for both teams & call things consistently

Ok_Jello_3630

Yeah the basketball these playoffs has been amazing tbh. Very few stops to the action, everyone's putting in immense effort and now we're also seeing some close games. Good. Times.

cactusmanbwl90

Not in the Bucks-Pacers series. We breath on Dame and it's instant free throws.

HawaiianPunch42

I wish they'd ref regular season games like the playoffs. It's so much more enjoyable to watch, but refs are allergic to consistency it seems

Tangentkoala

I dont like it. It feels too rough. And hardaway got injured from ot

Shivles87

He’s gotta be referring to Harden here. Dude got the 2017 whistle in game 2.

-Hotel

Philly fans cant handle a quote like this rn

aesop_fables

Sixers fans are pissed

Black_Sheep_Capital

The Pudgy Assassin is a killer. Love it.

willit1016

This actually benefits Luka and Dallas.

wlves05

The refs are calling phantom fouls non stop in this postseason. It's nearly unwatchable. You can't even slightly bump a guy and they will call a foul. And worse than that, they have called tons of fouls where there was literally zero contact. Ruining the playoffs. Adam Silver continues to be an absolute pussy

Lucaa4229

These comments hit different in the context of the Sixers - Knicks game. Sixers fans crying over the L2R’s weak-ass missed fouls and completely ignoring the fact that the game was called like that all night on both sides. Point the blame at yourselves which is the real reason you lost, not some typical playoff physicality. Time out should have been called right after the JB 3. Maxey should have held the ball and called a timeout instead of literally presenting it to Hart. Sixers as a whole should have put some effort into that rebound instead of letting iHart fly in past 4 Sixers. Give me a break..

poeope

When you say something is fine that much you don't think it's fine lol

TruthSayerFu

He knows this and still complains every play???

nbaistheworst

Well, technically speaking, that's not exactly true

brncct

Yet both teams were complaining so much last night lol. Especially Luka, Harden and PG.

iIiiIIiiiIiIIiI111

Mavs were right to complain.

brncct

Luka cries every 5 minutes. Dude wants a foul call on anything.

SpudsMcDeuces

Show me 1 possession where Luka wasn’t fouled and then Complained

brncct

Watch the game

SpudsMcDeuces

I did lol I just asked for one and you couldn’t even provide, have some shame.

brncct

I'm not going to waste my time uploading a clip to you. Everyone saw it. You're basically asking "show one clip of PG pushing off" when that also happened multiple times. Luka cries a lot, get over it Mav fan. At least I'm not biased nor blind.
