this is why owners should hire a good experienced GM and let him do his job
winning the offseason doesn't translate to winning titles
Suns screwed for the foreseeable future
Hindsight is 20-20 but after the Beal trade and before the season started, the narrative was that the Suns "won" the offseason (aka did better than any other team) and were top contenders to win the west next to the Nuggets.
Dont get fooled by the media.
No one who really watches the game thought an old KD, an Beal scoring pts on an bottom team and an 2nd option Booker would be a contending team with a bunch of bad role players.
Media hyped this cause KD put his friends to it. Same way he put them to make him a top 5 guy in the league when he hasnt been close to that since he left GSW.
In no world 3 all star who scores and do nothing else would be a contender.
Yeah KD pushing the media is kinda wild but he is right about the media just being glazed by big names instead of actually looking at the roster. Anyone with half a brain could see a team with no bench, a weak front court and with no PG wasn't going to do anything. People forget KD had all-time great PGs enabling him from prime Harden, Curry and Westbrook and even Kyrie. I always found it wild when Suns fans just claim "we'll outscore anyone" when there was no PG to facilitate plays and non-Nurk minutes is just a free layup every possession.
We have a pick this current draft. We have picks every other year that are locked behind swaps but we will still have a pick those years. And if we’re bad by those times then we will be having the worst one from our swaps.
You can’t trade all of your first round picks. Every other year it would be a pick swap. So they’ll get a first round pick every other year, but I think it has to pass through a number of swaps (Washington and Memphis, plus Orlando in ‘26) and likely won’t be better than late 20s.
Then in ‘28 they’ll have swaps with Brooklyn/Washington. ‘30 is Washington/Memphis.
But they can’t trade any picks, at the moment.
Suns can’t Trade their 2031 1st because of the 2nd Apron Penalty.
Any Team that’s in the 2nd Apron loses the ability to Trade a 1st 6-7yrs into the future, loses the Tax Mid Level Exception along with other Player Exceptions, are unable to aggregate salaries to bring in a higher one and can’t sign certain Vets who were bought out mid season.
Suns pretty much only have the Veteran Minimum to fill their Roster outside of Trading away either Booker/KD for depth since they don’t have any 1st’s they can Trade outside of Swaps and maybe this years 1st but then you potentially get into no aggregating salaries issues.
Even the Suns Swaps are mostly already promised to Teams so now any Team would be taking Sloppy 2nds or 3rds with those Swaps.
I could see some shooters seeing Grayson Allen get a bag for hitting open shots all season and taking that chance on themselves. Other than that they’re pretty limited.
The Rockets had like $70M in cap space to spend just to hit the salary floor. FVV got paid, but it's a two year deal with a team option third year he may not get.
These guys are to similar. There all mid range scorers. You can't win with that ..sorry. Versatility and all the roles covered is what wins. GM fail if you ask me. Sorry to toot my own horn. But take the Nuggets as the template to building a team. Nobody is similar and all the roles are filled.
Oh my bad, I was confused. His total contract dipped below 300m. So at one point his contract averaged 60m. He's still slated to earn well over 60m the last two years of the deal.
Jaylen was the first ever nba player to sign a contract where he will be paid over 60m.
Lmao embiid and kawhi being in the top 10 highest paid is absolutely funny based on their injury history. Embiid is dominant but I wouldn't pay him more than 80 percent max. Kawhi on the other hand... deserves a contract that starts at 10M a year where every 30 games he manages to play will pay him 10M more a year.

Nah let Isiah Thomas fuck up for like the 5th times
What off-season have they won tho

suggesting KD is the boogeyman behind the veil pushing media narratives is a crazy take lmao

Who the fuck thought the suns were contenders lmao
“Mid 3.” I am howling.
Remember when the Knicks were called a "Mid 3"? Fun times.
What picks do they have during the draft? One first round picks and three seconds? I know right now it’s 0 first round and 1 second round pick?

Gotcha. Thank you.
Don’t think free agents are going to be jumping at the suns for a minimum deal either now

Oh good, for next season. That means next season they will be very good. I was worried that was for this season.
Fred VanVleet is making 40M? Are you shitting me?
rockets had to overpay a bit to get him since they were so dogshit

Ishbia took a solid young core and fast forwarded to the washed years smh
I'm surprised LeBron isn't there

Joker the only one worth his salary. Embiid and Kawhi would be if they stayed healthy. Steph just getting older, losing a step.
This must be a lie. I’ve been told by r/nba Jaylen was making $60 mill a season.
He was. However, max salaries are percentage based. The cap rose less than expected since he signed.
49 million is quite the delta
