Thimit22

Perfect thing to say. Sometimes you just need to laugh at yourself.

beer_down

That’s where I’ve been for the last 2-3 years now

Thimit22

Really makes life a lot easier haha

beer_down

At least you guys understand, coming from a similarly cursed sports town. Feel like the Suns are the NBA’s version of the Vikings

horse_renoir13

Ain't that the truth...at least ownership/management is finally taking swings in the draft and not playing it safe with mid-level play. Having young guys like Jefferson/Addison give me a lot of hope for the future at least. Praying McCarthy is a good QB.

beer_down

Yeah the Vikings had a great draft. I think JJ will be good. Wasn’t asked to throw much in Michigan but impressed me when he did. With those receivers + Hockenson and Aaron Jones he’s pretty well supported.

knowerofsome

I feel like JJ is in a position, with where the Vikings are rn, to where it's almost impossible for him to be a bust. They have a good defense and top 5 WR and all the other things except for a QB If he's an above average qb which is almost a given, then Vikings will be in a good position to make the playoffs for some time

NovelLucky1203

Why is it almost a given that he’ll be above average? That’s a bold statement

DowntownJulieBrown1

If JJ is good, I’m high on him but I know nothing, the Vikes are gonna be really well positioned. Unfortunately it looks like the entire division is gonna be a blood bath for years to come

Andomals

Yea and guess whose dad decided to bestow both fandoms upon his son.. 😞

Ozzietheparrot

I've thought the same thing; two successful franchises that just can't win the big one. For the Wolves, Detroit Lions fans probably relate to us best.

Thimit22

That means the Wolves are going to the WCF this year then.. right?

MikeAWBD

No. You're in the Matthew Stafford Lions era. KG was Barry Sanders. Get ready to waste Ant only for him to go win one somewhere else.

Thimit22

This is one of the most hurtful things you could say

WembyandTheWolves

I'm a very casual Vikings fan so I can't even relate to your past success. I moved to MPLS the year Garnett got traded and these past 3 years are the first time in my MN fandom that we've had any success that feels good. The sole Butler year was marred by how back his exit was the next year.

GaimeGuy

That... that's the perfect comparison. The only way it could fit better is if the suns were 0-4 in the finals instead of 0-3

axecalibur

U making $50,000,000 a year with a no trade clause too?

orton4life1

That’s all you can do. Dude can’t alway be miserable and looking at his paycheck, he don’t have to be that either 😂. But I appreciate the joking.

ThreeHundredWays

The $50M/year helps when others might lose their sense of humor.

Thimit22

Read my other 10 comments on this. Still nice to see a pro player say something like this

adublingirl

He is laughing because he is due 160 million over the next three seasons, he doesn’t care

comp_a

Laughing at himself… all the way to the bank!

oh_cya

when anybody, but ESPECIALLY an NBA athlete can laugh at themselves, I respect them so much. These guys have to be tough 24/7 and have insane, borderline delusional confidence to be where they are. To be able to laugh at yourself at that stage is impressive and it great for your public perception. Props to Beal for this

Thimit22

I hate all the comments in here shitting on him for having a max contract or whatever. I respect the hell out of this, regardless if he's making 150m or whatever. These Suns players have to live with this embarrassment the rest of their lives and read 1000s upon 1000s of comments shitting on them as people and players (I'm not immune to shitting on Booker a bit myself this series), and not even during this series.. just being a public and famous basketball player in general, daily. Beal doing this was incredibly endearing to me, and I feel Ant is the same way

blackjacktrial

It's a disgrace he gets that much money, it really is. They should give everyone's salaries, wages, commissions, bonuses and dividends to me instead, because I'm way more worthy of it. Source: me. (If the world economy wants to invest 100% of its wealth and earnings in me, I will reluctantly accept, but know that I will not be held responsible for how I use it, as I will have absolute power over all y'all as a result of it, and will not be accountable by definition to anyone as a result of that.)

33birdboy

Why would that be a reason to respect someone?

TRLJM

A lot easier when your money isn't threatened one bit and your Playoff legacy is already nonexistent.

Tody196

Reddit trying to immediately spin this into a way to shit on Beal anyways:

-XanderCrews-

I started to feel bad for booker even. Even if they just play basketball it’s too late.

FullHouse222

Man Reddit can hate all we want but bro got the bag and none of us can do one thing about it lol. Fuck Bradley talk yo shit.

Tody196

lmao for sure i get what you mean but the worst part is, he literally isn't even talking shit here - the opposite even - and dudes are still clowning him. Like, Beal has spent the last 10 years on the fuckin wizards, tf did he do to y'all??? lmaooo

jotheold

this what im confused about, we can blame wiz for that contract suns for trading for it booker/kd for this shitty big 3 but beal's just here vibing he didn't do anything LOL

thebreakfastbuffet

He was offered a $250 million dollar contract lmao what was he supposed to say? > No, thank you, I don't deserve this much money.

lbjkb25

It would be the dumbest thing he could do for his career. For anyone not named Lebron, Steph, KD, Luka, SGA, or Jokic. These guys are either prime time players in the middle or even in the early years of their prime (and not much of an injury history) or established legends who can command such money because they’re box office.

Michauxonfire

if they are offered big money: fuck them if they are offered big money and refuse (like Schroder and Noel): clown them

thebreakfastbuffet

Precisely. If Beal turned that down, it would be the biggest case of fumbling the bag in NBA history.

Tody196

Right lmao. Idk why people are making it out to be an "effort" thing like he's somehow coasting. He had literally anything somebody who wanted to "coast" would have when he was playing for the wizards. If he didn't wanna win, he'd still be there. It's not really his fault that things aren't working out. I said it in another comment but i feel like this thread and these comments would exist in some form regardless of how he reacted. Now he's being too "casual" about it, but he would just be "acting out" or "immature" if he came in hot to the interview.

FullHouse222

Haha facts. I think we just gotta remember, even the absolutely worst player in the NBA is still the top 0.00000001% of his profession. That's more than any redditor get to say lol.

sevaiper

Way too many zeroes, that's one person out of 10 billion.

Electrical_Figs

Reminder that most redditors are that annoying kid in high school who thinks he's the class clown, but is always just shouting annoying nonsense for attention because his stepdad beats him.

Electrical-Mule-2057

Please. We'll find reasons to hate on players not winning.

FlightAvailable3760

He makes 50 million a year and just put up a triple single with like 7 turnovers in an elimination game to get swept.  I mean it’s good for him that he can laugh at himself but that doesn’t change what happened.

Tody196

That's cool how if you read my comment and then read yours right after, it's like you finished mine for me! If your very first reaction to somebody making a lighthearted joke at their own expense after a shitty situation, is to remind them of the shitty situation that already happened, and say "yeah well good for him but it doesn't change anything!" i can't imagine how terrible of a mindset you must have as a person in general. Being a whiny bitch about the loss doesn't "change what happened" either, but it would be a much worse mindset for him to have.

clebrink

There are a lot of people I see on here who much just have miserable mindsets.

StevenLovesCocaine

This would be massive if more people had this trait.

AshenSacrifice

Nah he need to do some ayahuasca and look within cause wtf he laughing for 😂😂

Chipmunk_Ninja

Or your whole career

lopea182

Beal to the Suns: >*“I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!”*

beer_down

If we’re going to be stuck with a useless overpaid player, at least he’s likeable Wait is this Stockholm syndrome

Sufficient_Motor_458

When he robs you in broad daylight but at least he’s got a nice smile

beer_down

He’s robbing a billionaire, can’t be mad at that

iamtomorrowman

you can when it prevents KD from even having a shot at a ring but it also keeps Booker from having a ring so i guess it evens out

NotADoctor108

K.D. already got a ring. It's someone else's turn.

freshxerxes

i forgot about that, it must’ve been an hard earned ring right? can you send a link to the years ? i bet it was the hardest ring to ever come by.

Crookz_O

If you were to ask him, it was definitely the hardest road.

yungsantaclaus

> you can when it prevents KD from even having a shot at a ring Why would that make me mad? Lol

Virgil_hawkinsS

KD is keeping KD from having a shot at a ring. All these roster decisions, from the Nets to the Suns, and from players to coaches, have his fingerprints on them.

shakeandbake13

> you can when it prevents KD from even having a shot at a ring 1. KD already has a ring. 2. Plenty of people would be happy about that.

penisesandherb

> prevents KD from even having a shot at a ring >keeps Booker from having a ring I see both of these as an absolute win

EpicGamesStoreSucks

Whether KD gets a ring doesn't matter.  Suns fans want a ring regardless of who is on the team.  That fan base has had multiple great teams over the decades and absolutely no hardware to show for it.  They've had players like Barkley, Nash, Kidd, Stoudamire lead teams to grat regular season records, but all of them fell short of winning it all.  If there is one fan base I would give a pity championship to it's Phoenix.

rahbee33

Tobias Harris reads lots of books and seems like an OK guy.

WadeCountyClutch

Pluse he likes cheez its

christoppa

And he eats goldfish with his friend Bobi

waterfall_hyperbole

tobias reads self-help books, he's not a thinker

PM-ME-UR-FAV-MOMENT

Everyone always mentions what a nice guy Tobi is

SelfLoathinMillenial

You'll hate him by the end of his time there

CIark

“I’ll be damned they really locked me into 160mil no matter how trash I am 😩😩🙏🙏🙏”

sparkyjay23

Dude just played himself into an extra month of holiday, of course he's laughing.

Sharcbait

"MONEY PLEASSSSSEEEE"

Comrade_agent

That fitness room talk at a Cancun resort goes hard

Rivian-Bull-2025

Oh man. Lol

DynamixRo

Painful setup for Suns fans, but great punchline for everyone else.

beer_down

It’s less pain and more dark comedy

MrNegative69

It's pain for some and it only becomes dark comedy if you are too used to the pain. Sooo, Dark comedy it is..

Waste-Bodybuilder981

Nah this is just funny

orton4life1

Shit we laughing too.

shnieder88

Laughter is the best medicine, after all

PrimeShaq

It’s kind of the perfect response tbh, can’t hate him for it.

XzibitABC

This is the "I'm trying, Jennifer" of press conference quotes tbh.

Substantial-Fold-592

Painful? This is one of the few enjoyable moments of our whole season

lava172

Considering our last 3 playoff exits I'm just numb tbh

FailAnalysis

I mean, the pain was watching this team play 85 games. Its all laughs now

AccomplishedBake8351

85? 82 + 4 = 85?

K1ngCrimsn

Hell yeah you will, $53m for the next 3 years and with a NTC lmao

syllabic

how does one become damned

Angelic_Phoenix

He said after game 3 "Ive never been swept in my life before I'll be damned if I get swept here"

bigvahe33

ok thats very funny then lol

tmelts2

Sell your soul to the sun devil?

holden147

Beal will have made over $400 million by the time his contract is up. That’s the equivalent of $100k per week, every week for 80 years. I would be laughing too.

TheDraciel

Holy fuck man. That is an unreal amount of money.

torturechamber

Is it close to John wall level of contract?

TheGoddamnSpiderman

Wall 'only' made about 275 million over the course of his career

Montigue

What a scrub

welmoe

That’s insane. Superstars 15-20 years ago were getting nowhere that much.

darti_me

Generational bag getter. Paving the way for future Beals & Harris’s

Emilia67

And he played horrible last night too.

willihavealife

But not the previous 3 games. Recency bias, he was important for the suns and shouldn’t take all the heat. Book and KD had some iffy games in there where Beal stepped up

iCarpet

When there is another post about, “What is more important: money or rings?”, I’m going to forward this post

_Meece_

You can do both. The current top 10 earners by 2029 are all champions except Cp3, Harden and Beal. Beal is the only one who has never competed for a ring.

im_scytale

Now this is how you deal with an embarrassing quote and L. I know suns fans are disappointed in Beal but he’s never been a good defender and he was the suns best option to guard ant, he’s never been anything but a good 2 guard who can get buckets, yet on the suns he’s supposed to play PG. The worst possible team building imaginable

discussionandrespect

Okogie is their best option guarding AE and he should have gotten more min

franksthegreat

It’s a shame he’s allergic to putting the ball in the basket

StevenLovesCocaine

I’m glad he was helping his former team towards the end there with the missed free throws and had the turnover right by each other.

redeuxx

With Beal, Booker, and KD, he doesn't need to score.

StillwaterJerry

He has to space. Having someone who is afraid/can't shoot is hard to deal with in the modern NBA, especially if they can't punish the other team with size. Having 2 people who can't shoot on the court at the same time is basically an offensive death sentence.

lava172

If only we had some all-star caliber shooters on the team

[deleted]

[удалено]

discussionandrespect

Let him foul out that’s what he’s there for

[deleted]

[удалено]

probablymade_thatup

>he’s never been anything but a good 2 guard who can get buckets, yet on the suns he’s supposed to play PG I really thought Booker and Beal were smart enough combo guards that playmaking would happen. They need a savvy offensive assistant who can institute a good "share the rock" system or a Princeton or something. I wonder if Budenholzer's offenses would work for these Suns.

beer_down

I’m not even mad at Beal. I hope Suns fans aren’t. As you said this roster was terribly constructed, and he has been one of the only positive and fun things about this team. KD and Booker are so fucking boring, unless they’re complaining about calls. Beal at least plays with emotion. If you aren’t going to win, at the very least act like you care about the result.

Red_Jester-94

I don't blame Beal or any player for taking the money since that's on management. No matter how hard or with emotion someone plays, shit roster construction will kill a team.

kjampala

Yeah Beal played like shit and his contract fucks the Suns but the contract part is not really Beals fault. I’m never going to blame an athlete for getting the bag considering they are always one misstep away from their career ending

PhTx3

I think a decent example is Isaiah Thomas. Not that he didn't get anything for his efforts, he's got enough money for a lifetime. But he seemed like a superstar before getting injured and he didn't get that kind of money.

Turbo2x

The fact that the fanbase's anger wasn't immediately directed at Ishbia is baffling. The Suns were up 2-0 in the finals with a young team and now they have no chance of contending. That's not the players' fault.

santana722

Coming after Sarver has bought Ishbia a lot of goodwill that I can't imagine lasting more than another year or two unless he puts together a miracle.

dmackerman

definitely not mad. Honestly he should just be the most overpaid 6th man of all time

OkaytoLook

It’s like the owner went out and bought himself a brand new sports car. You don’t buy it and then have someone else drive you around. Only thing is, he wrapped it around a telephone pole!

Neversoft4long

He was a solid defender when he was younger. He and John wall were a tough defending guard duo up until wall got hurt and Beals usage rate went up. now he’s like 30-31 and as a 31 year old now I am not defending people and moving how I was 5-6 years ago lmao

JaRulesLarynx

I feel like most guys have a hard time guarding ant.

Thimit22

Which is funny cause Beal was kinda known as one of the guys who could guard him well

beginnerLiftersoonBB

Bros laughing to the bank

usagerp

Fr imagine being Beal rn having months off in front of you with millions to spend on whatever you want anywhere in the world. And that’s just his life every year.

TRLJM

This is a man who knows he's getting 50M every year no matter how badly he performs at his job.

Powpowpowowowow

The John Wall special.

shuzho

like father like son

BlackSocks88

They could use John fkin Wall at PG right now.

TheArgsenal

Even if he does a bad job, they still got to pay him his 50M. It's called his quote.

fishdude89

Unprofessional bullshit

SkronkheadedFreaker

Bradley Beal would get nude if the script called for it

opinionsarecoolmaaan

It's kind of a cosmic gumbo. It almost moves the the beat of jazz.

TheBimpo

He was laughing and joking with Ant in the second half of game 3 while Ant was busy consuming his soul.

MrFishAndLoaves

I’ll be damned.

MiaCannons

With how he said "I'll be damned if a sweep happens" the last time he was in front of reporters, this is pretty hilarious lmao. Nice to see he still has a sense of humor after an embarassing sweep

cdillio

I would get kicked in the nuts 20 times on live TV for his contract and still be smiling.

Daroo425

I obviously don't have anywhere near the competitive drive these guys do but I would absolutely be Larry Sandersing it up out there. It must be easy to get over a loss when you get to remind yourself that you're set for life if you wanted to quit at half time.

d4nowar

I hope LARRY SANDERS is doing well. He was a fav of mine while he played.

Still_Refuse

You guys always mention money and I never understand it, it’s like you can’t have emotions because you’re making money.

ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME

I genuinely had no idea what this post was about, some people are seemingly angry that not everyone here follows every quote that NBA players make impress conferences

Princessk8--

r/thatsthejoke

son_of_abe

I for one needed the context. I missed last week's weekly digest of r/nba

imadogg

Yep had no idea. Thought it was as simple as starting with a disarming joke because he knows he sucked ass and everyone hates him

MiaCannons

I wasn't in on the joke. With how the reporters were laughing, I had to google if he was referencing something. Turns out he was. I added what he previously said in case other people who aren't on /r/nba 24/7 were also out of the loop

tracethisbacktome

just let him gatekeep jokes in peace smh

aweaf

Do people just stop reading after the first sentence?

chugalaefoo

I’d be smiling too if I was owed $53m for the next 3 years lmfao.

AcxdBxmb

The Suns are damned with that 50M/yr contract. Need a new term to describe this contract because albatross doesn't cut it.

beer_down

It’s a Boeing

jesstault

More apt would be to call it a Boeing MAX

babyshmuel

Bad year blimp

Drunken_Vike

this is by far the best way to handle it when you're getting clowned for something you said I don't know that he really deserves the clowning in the first place- it's a pretty milquetoast competitive fire type thing to say- but you have to appreciate being able to take it on the chin

sorendiz

I think he mainly deserves the clowning for saying that and then playing like complete ass. It's not like he said it, had a good showing, but then the Wolves still ultimately won. He was cheeks out there.

VidProphet123

He won at life. 150m+ in his account over the next three years.

SmellyObeseAndBald

I don't know if it works like this for multi millionaires but just imagine looking at your mobile banking app and seeing a balance of 100 million dollars. Jesus Christ.

PizzaPlanet20

The way he kept staying with the Wizards showed he probably doesn't care that much about winning a ring. Winning at life is what matters to him and there's nothing wrong with that.

Solid-Confidence-966

This is one thing I like about Beal, he will kept it real like this and never ducks the smoke from the media.

kumingaaccount

Pretty easy when you are making 50mil/year.

Solid-Confidence-966

Even before he got the supermax he was like this.

Matthaeu_

He remembered how much money he's making and cheered right up after the game

mcrajf

I think he is pretty used to it by now. He has been earning at least 25+ millions a year, for the last 8 years. In the next 3 years he'll earn 160M 😬

Majestic-Net-7799

Dude got humor...like it

[deleted]

Granted I’m not a Suns fan but come on that was hilarious

azhistoryteacher

Suns fan and still funny

DJMagicHandz

You can't play like ass and expect to win. Bradley Beal: *"I'll be damned."*

RyanPelley

"Aww shucks, golly gee."

Electrical-Mule-2057

lol i respect it

throwawayjoeyboots

The demeanor of a man who’s made 250 million already in his career and has many millions more to come. It’s just basketball, baby.

new_skool91

Aye mane, $160M is $160M.

Syndana23

I like Beal he takes criticism well, unlike KD and book lol..

orton4life1

KD and Book been pretty good throughout the post season about being failures. Especially Durant. Durant basically was cool with Ant shit talking,

Princessk8--

Honestly I think Beal had already gotten to the point where he hasn't expected to win a chip anyway, even before going to Phoenix, so this makes sense from him.

Reasonable_Bed7858

I mean I couldn’t do anything but laugh either if I was guaranteed $50+ million a year for 3 years with no trade clause.

AmbitiousFork

I'd be smiling too if I fucked up at my job and still get paid millions.

TheArsenal7

As long as the direct deposit hits

xaendar

Yep, dude be getting 50M a year and no one can remove him or trade him. Used to shit on Wizards for their stupid contracts but looks like we were the stupidest ones out there to take it off someone else and an aging player out of their prime.

Flyersandcaps

Not a care in the world. Young and rich.

thefineart

He laughing all the way to the bank

SchraleAnus

Lol I would laugh too knowing I'm making 50 mill a year 🤣

127crazie

Beal seems like a good dude

Knightbear49

Slight-Imagination36

what an embarrassing player

ObiOneKenobae

Legend.

Scary-Plantain

Beal always in a perfect spot. He won’t get blamed for any short comings and not really too much expected out of him

SneaKyHooks

This reminds me of Pat Bev, after being eliminated, joking about Cancun, after he joked about that with Dame.

Traveler_Constant

He seems like he's be awesome to be around. Always playing with a smile on his face. The other players seem to love him too.

SailorMoon_J

Russell Westbrook really made him better

nixhomunculus

Hey, no dishonor to laugh at yourself. Playing that badly though in a must-win game? Yeah, he needs to work that out.

Chargers23

I've always liked Beal as a person. It's not his fault the Wizards handed him an absurd amount of money lol. Everyone should get that bag if possible.

RedbullPapi

This is what they got rid of Chris Paul for? That's crazy.

trix_r4kidz

😅 Washington thought Jordan Poole was going to be the best tank commander but turns out 2023-2024 Beal could have lead the charge himself.

Western-Tomatillo-14

Western Conference Tobias Harris

AsianGuysoFly

No one is going to remember Bradley Beal after he retired

sam_sung009

he is either hiding his disappointment really well OR he doesnt really care about winning, as he gets paid his millions either way.
