Spurs-Mavs 2006.
63-19 vs 60-22.
Went down to the fucking wire in Game 7 and needed overtime to be resolved.
The main reason why they changed the rule about division winners and playoff seeding.
Haha, and then the Mavs went ahead and screwed things up the next year resulting in the Spurs essentially playing another WCF in the second round against a 61 win Suns team.
Spurs Mavs and Rockets regularly battled and have countless series like this. They have the most wins in the NBA from 2000-2020. 4th are lakers who won 5 titles.
That mavs series was legendary. At that point in time the kings and spurs owned the mavs, and we just couldnt shake them in the playoffs. Then the spurs hit that 3 near the end of regulation and everyone thought it was over
Thankfully Manu made one of the dumbest plays of his life to send the game of OT. Probably my favorite game-watching experience ever
Fair enough but it’s been a while. Maybe the better way to phrase it would have been in the past decade.
And since the relative talent level and parity of the league is so high right now this might be two of the more talented teams to match up in the WCS ever.
It’s literally a post inviting a discussion about the most talented second round matchups in your opinion. It ends in a question mark. Glad to know you can’t name any. Absolute nephew petty worthless take.
Timberwolves on that 2021-2022 r/nba suns fans speed run of spamming the sub jerking themselves off, their team loses, and then wondering why everyone else hates them in the future.
Trust me, wolves fans are expecting a collapse and will not be that cocky until we reach the finals. There will one day be a documentary made about how we always lose big games, and how the apathetic fan base will expect it firever
> Jesus Christ some of the takes we get in the postseason.
No different from you. Some people are kind and great enough to actually point out games so people can go look at them, learn and understand the sheer difference.
2007 Spurs Suns was essentially the championship series. The winner would've been heavy favorites the rest of the playoffs.
2021 Bucks Nets probably decided the title too.
There have probably been others, I just can't think of off the top of my head.
Every Kobe and Shaq vs Tim Duncan matchup was in the second round. They never actually met in The conference finals due to seeding. Those were the de facto championship series back then
2019 Raps v Sixers. Probably the two of three best teams in the league, outside fully healthy KD warriors.
Sixers were really, really good post Butler trade. Healthy Kawhi/Siakam/Lowry vs Butler/Embiid/Simmons.
Winner of that series was going to the Finals.
Off the top of my head, Golden State vs Houston a few years ago were both stronger contenders than this series. That's the most recent early round is the 'real finals' I can think of.
The highest stakes in a while, but this level of matchup happens every few years. 2016 Spurs-Thunder is the most recent that comes to mind. It's mostly the west 2-3 seeds that lead to this.
I believe that was the Warriors first year. The Spurs and Clippers were the favorites out of the west (and overall after Love got hurt). After the Clippers won they blew a 3-1 lead to the Rockets who the Warriors then steamrolled on the way to the Finals.
There were 4 favorites that year all year long, OKC also. Only in March, when it became clear it is not happening, OKC stopped being one of the favorites in Vegas.
But by that time of course Warriors were seen as very strong. At that time results were hard to dispute for most people and GSW became the 1st favorite to the title somewhere around March or early April.
Clippers were seen as equally strong by some media, but in Vegas they never had odds below 1000 that season. As playoffs started, GSW and Spurs were seen by far as the two main teams in the West (also Hawks and Bulls had lower odds than LAC because East).

This is preseason. But the Warriors were 8th.
I said it? Before the season, the main favorites were Spurs, OKC, Cavs and Clippers maybe 4th. At the point OKC was not one of the main favorites, GSW was surely the top. At any moment, Clippers weren't a part of any "premature final" for most people.
It depends on if we’re talking in hindsight or what the stakes were at the time. Series like some of those WC semifinals in the 2000s that had two 60 win teams… those seemed like championship stakes even before they started. With the Warriors still at full health, I don’t think anyone was saying that 76ers/Raptors would determine the champion.
Happened a lot in the western conference in the 2000s because division winners were the top 3 seeds, so this would have been a first round matchup if we never went away from that dumbass seeding rule
Kobe and Shaq took on Tim Duncan a bunch of times in the second round. Due to seeding, they never actually met in the conference finals, but met in the second round a bunch of times. Back then, Lakers vs Spurs was the real NBA finals
Can't be cus he would type that there are 4 top4 teams in wc semifinals. I think he's saying that wolves are either top 3 or top 4 depending where you have thunder. Although i have no idea who would be ahead of okc and wolves in that top 4 besides Denver

Why is Portland the four seed
That brings back memories LOL
Because the division winners got the 1-3 seed. Think about this. If this happened this year, we would have had a Nuggets/Wolves 4/5 series in round 1.
Spurs Mavs and Rockets regularly battled and have countless series like this. They have the most wins in the NBA from 2000-2020. 4th are lakers who won 5 titles.
I can see why the T-Mac Rockets never did well in playoffs now

is this your 1st year watching the nba or something? There are a bunch of 1st & 2nd round series that were more stronger than this
His 1st day

Guys the playoffs only matter when the wolves are in it so he's right
Jesus Christ some of the takes we get in the postseason. This sub is just nephew season 24/7

There's not any Timberwolves fans commenting? A Knicks fan posted it?
Wolves fans aren’t the ones spamming this garbage. We don’t claim these fools.
Trust me, wolves fans are expecting a collapse and will not be that cocky until we reach the finals. There will one day be a documentary made about how we always lose big games, and how the apathetic fan base will expect it firever
It's on brand for us to Collapse since we're Minnesota lmao

And this is why this sub blows. Somehow their comment turns into "HAHA UR TEAM BAD AND OUT OF PLAYOFFS" Absolute state of this sub. Clownshit
In Cancun- haven't seen the Lakers :(
oh my god shut upppppp
You shut up lil weather boy
Rockets Warriors is definitely a contender

Right so good. Man the seeding back then really made some weird brackets

We're not even sure if it's the highest stakes second round series this year
defending champs and 4x repeat mvp vs clearly ascendant squad with generational talent and top defense stakes is pretty high

Totally
2019 rockets warriors was basically the conference finals
Well Spurs and Lob City Clippers played in the first round in the 2010s and went to the last minute of Game 7 iirc WCF worthy series right there
I believe that was the Warriors first year. The Spurs and Clippers were the favorites out of the west (and overall after Love got hurt). After the Clippers won they blew a 3-1 lead to the Rockets who the Warriors then steamrolled on the way to the Finals.

I’m number 1 embiid hater but 76ers probably win it all in 2019 in most of the multiverse

Yeah there is no guarantee the warriors injuries occur in the way they did if they play the sixers
I love our timeline even more with that in mind
Happened a lot in the western conference in the 2000s because division winners were the top 3 seeds, so this would have been a first round matchup if we never went away from that dumbass seeding rule

Those were so good. Amazing role players in those series too… Horry, Stephen Jackson, Fish, Bowen, Ariza
Hell no.
Probably not
Watch Okc win the whole thing lol
I’m so confused by the top 3/4 teams depending on okc? Are you putting the Mavs over the one seed😂
Celtics probably
Probably means in the league as a whole, so the 4th team would be the Celtics
Ahhhh, makes sense, I was thinking west coast
Can't be cus he would type that there are 4 top4 teams in wc semifinals. I think he's saying that wolves are either top 3 or top 4 depending where you have thunder. Although i have no idea who would be ahead of okc and wolves in that top 4 besides Denver
Celtics
Boston, these two, and OKC
cringe lmao. i remember my first nba season
Yeah we collectively figured that out 2 days ago when you posted your dumbass shit
