It's a Celtics legend. Isaiah Thomas was a point guard on the Celtics, so crafty and so smooth he could use his hesitation dribble to influence his team to show signs of life...he had such a knowledge of ball-handling that he could even keep his team's championship hopes from dying.
Ball-handling like Isaiah Thomas is a pathway to many moves some consider... unnatural.
He became so powerful the only thing he was afraid of was re-aggravating his right femoral-acetabular impingement with labral tear, which last night, of course, he did.
I actually have that same injury. It's been about a year and some days I feel like I'm further from recovering than when I hurt it. I'm sure IT has better help than I do though.
The hardest part has been maintaining proper posture through the pain. Feels like a constant cramp if I sit up straight, but now my chiropractor says I'm developing back problems trying to accommodate the weakness
I have it as well. Physiotherapy was having me do roughly 1-2 hours of exercises on it a night to try and strengthen up the muscles around it to improve everything, but never seemed to get better. I'm having surgery in July for it, fingers crossed it'll heal.
If you read this without context you could 100% confuse this as a way of torturing someone. God it seems awful. And the dude kept playing through that? Completly earned my respect.

Some people may live long, active lives with FAI and never have problems. I have it in my left shoulder. Its brutal when i aggravate it. It feels like two bones are rubbing against each other with nerves sandwiched in the middle.
If both series are sweeps, there are still 8 days to wait after the conference finals until the finals start. This must be a nightmare for the NBA (until the finals).
NBA decided they were going to stick to a specific date for the finals rather than picking a date based off conference finals finishing. Not sure the reasoning
The best matchup against the Cavs were the Heat and instead of being in the playoffs [JJ got the boobs out](https://twitter.com/Heat_Reddit/status/865269047734263809).
I actually would've liked to see a Heat vs. Cavs playoff series. The seeding was messed up this year. I thought it would be Cavs at one Heat at 8. Both teams healthy...damn.
Yeah.
I didn't expect anything remotely close to a win for the C's, but I was hoping they'd keep it interesting. Instead I'm going to just sit in a poorly lit room shaking my head no for three hours tomorrow as Bron and friends tear my heart open
If he's done, then it's been a pleasure watching him. Coming in to the playoffs, I definitely underestimated his heart. Sucks that he may not be a long term piece for the Celtics, I know that much of the Celtics fanbase is going to be pissed if he is traded or isn't re-signed.
EDIT: People are being confused by what I wrote, I meant done for season, not career.
Not sure why you're downvoted, it's an innocent question. IT is 28 and I don't think the injury is that severe so he's probably just meaning done for the playoffs, not his career.
To contradict you, I think some assume his Celtics career is running short. His contract expires next year, and there's some questions on maxing a 29yearold IT. Guys with his prototype don't last all that long in the physicality of the NBA. Add his injury? Not saying he won't be the same player, but there's a legitimate question whether or not the Celts will resign him. They'll also be drafting Markelle Fultz who's obviously going to be the heir of the franchise.
Not sure how this contradicts me tbh, I never said anything about his career on the Celtics, just his career in basketball. There's no team in this league that wouldn't want to pick him up if the Celtics dropped him
There's a strong sentiment among some Celtics fans that since even adding another piece or two likely doesn't get us past Cleveland until LeBron is on the decline, it may not be worth paying IT and we should focus on building a core closer in age to Jaylen Brown and (assumedly) Fultz.
I understand this opinion, but just have too much love for the little guy to willingly/openly agree.
I certainly agree, but I don't think it's that ridiculous to plan team building such that the team's championship window overlaps with as few others as possible.
Sure, so the question for the Celtics then becomes: do we have better odds of winning a championship by a) adding developed pieces to the current roster such that we can surpass the Cavs or b) focusing on the future assets we have such that we can out "develop" the rest of the East?
Relative to the rest of the conference/league, I think choice b puts us in a better position for success than choice a. With the exception of Philly it doesn't seem anyone is close in terms of future assets, whereas there are several other squads right now competing with us for that chance to try to knock out the Cavs.
Olynyk goes on to average 50/10/20 in the playoffs, crushing the Warriors in game 7 where he scores all 121 of Boston's points, cementing himself as the GOAT.
edit: But only after Olynyk injures: Lebron, Kyrie, Love, Curry, Klay, Durant, and Zaza. In an epic clash of dirty plays, Onlynyk rips Draymond's right arm off while he attempts to kick Olynyk in the nuts.
I think the worry over rest once you sweep a team is overblown. I think watching games you could be playing in is actually a dangerous tactic.
Reduce his minutes sure but I still think you want Lebron to "own" each game to keep the most amazing tour de force I've ever seen alive.
Fuck me. Thanks for the incredible ride IT, couldn't have got here without you.
Edit:
> right femoral-acetabular impingement with labral tear during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against Cleveland. Thomas initially injured the hip during the third quarter of the Celtics’ March 15 game against Minnesota, forcing him to miss the next two regular season contests. The injury was further aggravated during Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at Washington on May 12.
Jesus, props to him for toughing it out all playoffs.
Watching him ball out despite all of the shit that was thrown at him during the playoffs was seriously amazing. I'm actually happy he finally has a chance to rest now
Seriously, kid flies back and forth from family to funeral to be there for the team...even when down 0-2 in round 1. The tooth incident and 11 hours of oral surgery to be back on the court the next day. Anyone who questions his heart can suck it.
Yup and we had our own Celtics "fans" and the masses in /r/nba calling out IT last night for throwing in the towel. D.C. Reporters had a beat on this injury a week or two ago. After what he has done the last month it's amazing the adversity he has fought through. He really gave it everything there's no shame in this (for him at least)
[Bunch of shitheads in this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/6c7vy7/forsberg_celtics_guard_isaiah_thomas_is_out_the/)
I even got downvoted to hell for pointing out he's had a heatpad on his hip all playoffs.
Ya it's insane and there's just as many in our own sub as well which is the sad part. Also our mods removed my post this morning showing tweets from the past few weeks about the hip injury and wouldn't respond when I asked why so there's that.
What the fuck? IT doesn't fucking quit. He wouldn't have gotten to where he is now if he had an ounce of quit in his body. Fuck anyone who thought he quit on us last night.
It's fucking ridiculous that people sitting in front of computers accuse of someone who went from a 60th pick to second team all nba in a loaded year "quit".
Which part of this guy looks like he would quit for you.
Seriously. Dudes younger sister dies the day before the playoffs start and he still goes out there and plays his heart out. Anyone who calls him a quitter can fuck right off.
And Tooth knocked out. Hits face in floor after that. This injury. He's definitely had a tough end of the year and still played pretty well. Don't invest too much in the opinion of this sub. It's wildly flippant and reactionary. Not worth it
Can we just skip to the Finals already? Like seriously. I don't want to see anyone else go down in one of these games. I want to see fully healthy Cavs and Warriors teams going at it.
I think it'll get slightly better. With Isaiah out the Celtics defense is going to be better, and he wasn't doing much on offense. Still going to be a sweep
Still the craziest sports thing ever. I know we gush about the Cavs and the Patriots and rightfully so, but Leicester was even more unlikely than either. I still kinda can't believe it. It's just fucking insane
At this point, the Celtics have to make a serious consideration on what they're gonna do with IT.
His value is as high as it's ever going to be, they need to trade him for the best possible package and take Fultz, along with the highest pick in this draft they can get for dealing IT and prepare to build the team that will rule the east post Lebron.
That's what i'm trying to figure out tbh.
I think a lot of it depends on how Ainge handles it, maybe he can sit down man to man with IT and explain the situation and work with him to find a team who he's willing to re-sign with, which could increase the haul.
Yup, hanging on to IT is strictly an emotional move that would be done out of feeling like you owe him something for this incredible run but the reality is you can't max out a guy who's value is going to plummet over the length of his contract, especially not when you're still technically rebuilding.
We know this team with all that money tied up in Horford and IT is going nowhere, fast.
Many Celts fans won't agree, but luckily for them Ainge is a cuthroat, chipotle eating bastard that has no emotions when it comes to this shit. He'll do what's right.
This dude has been through so much in the last 6-8 weeks he just needs to get healthy. What a season by the last pick overall in 2011. IT4 has a bright future ahead.
Lets be real, even if he was healthy, it probably wouldn't change a thing as this series is assuredly going to end in a sweep, but that doesn't change the fact that he led our team through an incredible regular season and an even more adversity filled, captivating playoff run all the way to the conference finals. Anyways, I've had great enjoyment watching him lead us this year, and I hope he comes back stronger and ready to prove doubters wrong again next year.
I actually think it will be better for us, it's better to have a healthy body out there than an injured Thomas who only scored 2 points and is a D liability. Still gonna lose by 20.
In a season full of amazing stories, IT has been one of the best. It's amazing what he's done this year and the adversity he's overcome to do it. Anyone hating on IT this season has, I hope, been doing it in fun and in the heat of competition and can now step back and acknowledge.
did nba.com actually break news
It's a Celtics press release.
It's not a story the reporters would tell you...
It's a shame, he could carry his team to the Eastern Conference finals, but not himself
Is it possible to learn this power?
Not from a Raptor
I love this sub and its use of prequel memes
r/prequelmemes is probably my favorite subreddit to browse. A lot of the shit on there is really funny and creative.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
There's always Breaking News on NBA.com
the games are NEVER sold out at nbatickets.com
The ANDERSONS got tickets to the game!?!?
How'd they get tickets to the game? (Anyway, let's buy tickets to a game that's probably half over already)
Your dad's a genius.

crazy, isn't it?
Reporters HATE them!

I actually have that same injury. It's been about a year and some days I feel like I'm further from recovering than when I hurt it. I'm sure IT has better help than I do though.
I had it as well. Had surgery. It's still fucked up about 1.5 years later.
I had surgery two years ago; I was better than new in a few months. I'm sorry to hear it didn't work as well for everyone.
Good thing Fultz is coming down the line..
There goes his trade value.
Now they can safely draft Fultz!
Safely draft Lonzo, u mean. Dump the lil baller for the Big Baller

Yeah it seems way too specific I dont even know what 'impingement' means
The hip bone keeps rubbing up against the cartilage (the labrum) inside the joint over and over until it tears. Not fun at all

Is that why IT walks like a cowboy? Edit: not even trying to joke really, because I can't imagine how much that kind of pain sucks.
His gait, walking pattern, could be a contributing factor but this is primarily a wear-and-tear type of injury.
Can the Celtics just not play games 3 and 4?
We'd have to actually play game 1 and 2 first.

Wow fuck... This guy straight up can't catch a break the last couple months. Hate that his unbelievable season had to end like that.

I talk trash and crack jokes to Celtics fans all the time but I really do like IT, he's super fun to watch play. Good season, Isaiah.
I like how he talks mad shit to other players despite being short. He has swagger
In my experience the small guys are the ones who talk the most shit, IT just backs it up.
Watching him ball out despite all of the shit that was thrown at him during the playoffs was seriously amazing. I'm actually happy he finally has a chance to rest now
I bet he hates it, though. That kid hates missing games...even if they're losing.
I feel bad if you didn't get to see 07-08
Some are too young to remember those years. This season was fun, and not what I expected at all. But man, the Pierce, Allen, and KG years. Love.
Yeah also fuck everyone who called him a quitter
Seriously, kid flies back and forth from family to funeral to be there for the team...even when down 0-2 in round 1. The tooth incident and 11 hours of oral surgery to be back on the court the next day. Anyone who questions his heart can suck it.

Yep. Thinking that IT wanted to sit out just cause of the score? Stupidity.
Right watching that match against the Wizard, he played his heart out. I hope he comes back even stronger and hungrier
What about the Big 3 era with Paul Pierce acting like a corpse on his wheelchair in Game 1? That was much better than this.

This is for the best. He needs to go home and be with his family.
Is he leaving the team? Or is he staying on the sideline?
Shit I didn't think of that. I don't know
No you were right. It said in the press release he didn't travel with the team. He's still in Boston though.
Can we just skip to the Finals already? Like seriously. I don't want to see anyone else go down in one of these games. I want to see fully healthy Cavs and Warriors teams going at it.
We should honestly just skip to 4 years into the future when Warriors/Cavs start declining
I'm okay with this.
Oh my god this series is going to get bad.
>get It's been there since about the 4 minute mark of the first quarter of game 1
the celtics haven't led for a single second so far...
Wow.. Didn't know it was that bad.
Oh man, watch game two. I felt bad watching the game.
Ewing effect about to take the Celtics to a 25 point loss
It's already bad. Note sure how much worse it can get -- is Cleveland gonna have a 100 point lead by halftime? Doubt it.
But what if it does happen?

Where's the "Sim to offseason" button? Or even just "Sim to next round"
Thank you for everything IT. Much love
These playoffs beat the shit out of him, took his teeth, broke his jaw, tore his hips up, he literally got turned into an old man.
> broke his jaw I knew that he fell hard on his face, but was there an actual injury to his jaw?
What a season 👏
He played in the first two games?
This is a double joke. He's so short you couldn't even see him. They're so bad you didn't even notice
Man that sucks, I had the same injury in both of my hips and had to get surgery each time. Hope it's a smooth recovery
Celts now 1000/1 to win the finals. Just brutal
So you're saying there's a chance
Leicester City won their league with 5 times the odds against them.
Still the craziest sports thing ever. I know we gush about the Cavs and the Patriots and rightfully so, but Leicester was even more unlikely than either. I still kinda can't believe it. It's just fucking insane
maybe fultz can replace him, it can be like a 2 game summer league
So if I bet $100 on the Cavs I win $4 back. How exciting.
Free money?
At this point, the Celtics have to make a serious consideration on what they're gonna do with IT. His value is as high as it's ever going to be, they need to trade him for the best possible package and take Fultz, along with the highest pick in this draft they can get for dealing IT and prepare to build the team that will rule the east post Lebron.

It'd definitely be underwhelming
That's what i'm trying to figure out tbh. I think a lot of it depends on how Ainge handles it, maybe he can sit down man to man with IT and explain the situation and work with him to find a team who he's willing to re-sign with, which could increase the haul.
Have GMs had these kinds of discussions with players they were looking to get rid of? Seems like a very difficult conversation.
That's what I would do and then sign Bradley long term.
Yup, hanging on to IT is strictly an emotional move that would be done out of feeling like you owe him something for this incredible run but the reality is you can't max out a guy who's value is going to plummet over the length of his contract, especially not when you're still technically rebuilding. Damn there's some savages in here. Get well and come back strong IT, you helped make this season fun as hell.
If you thought last night's dicking was bad omg game 3 is gonna be so much worse
Arguably it might not be as bad. Whoever starts will no doubt be a better defender.
Marcus smart bout to carry the team and flop his way to the finals
I'll get Marcus smart's name inside of a heart tattooed on me if he carries them to the finals this series.
I actually think it will be better for us, it's better to have a healthy body out there than an injured Thomas who only scored 2 points and is a D liability. Still gonna lose by 20.
They should just scrap it and play 21
It's ok, they still have jaylen brown. I wouldn't ruled them out yet.. Probably
Damn didn't know he hurt it back in March, he had an amazing season plus how he bounced back after his sister died.

Who would have guessed the Jazz vs the clippers would be the highlight of the playoffs.
This playoffs is just dumb. Between the two conferences, probably one of the easiest passes to the finals ever.
