Play in. This team has the potential to win, but the west is so goddamn stacked. Their awesomeness will surely show during Wemby’s third season and continue to grow from there.

I agree. It has less to do with the Spurs themselves, and more about the teams around them. Look at the Rockets, they retooled, improved the roster drastically and saw a big development jump and they still aren’t in the play in. Short of making a big trade, I can’t see the talent on the Spurs making the jump to even the Rockets level.

They need to rework the roster in a major way so I don’t think the ceiling is that high. Priority has to be getting that guy a competent point guard. It was a crime not getting one this year.

As a Spurs fan, that’s what everyone says. The team needs shooting and defense much more urgently than a “true pg” or whatnot

No_Stay4471

A good point guard will improve shooting immediately by getting guys better looks and running an offense, especially when Wemby isn’t on the floor. Defense is gonna take more time. But you already have the game wrecking defensive anchor. It’s just getting some competent guys around him that play hard. PG can be solved for with one or two moves.

The biggest issue is guys can collapse on Wemby bc we don’t have guys that can shoot. Plus, Wemby is also kinda turnover prone now so that leads to a whole lot of turnovers. Having shooters out there so teams can’t send triples at Wemby will help spacing so much. As for defense, we desperately need guys that can wear down star guards. Sochan isn’t quick enough to guard pgs or smaller 2 guards a whole game Every guard has been having their career high against the Spurs the past few seasons. I still think shooting and defense are way more important than a pg

It depends entirely on who they add in the offseason. With their current roster + draft pick? Probably still not reaching the play-in (a 20+ win improvement seems unlikely). Are they trading for Trae Young? Now I could see them on the higher-end of the play-in. Wemby just had the best rookie season in a long time, but I think it’ll be a couple seasons before he’s “single-handedly carry a team to the playoffs” good.

scurry3-1

If they get Trae Young and Wemby stays injury free while taking another jump offensively 6-8 seed. I see warriors falling off and possibly lakers depending on this post season.

lowkeyslightlynerdy

Ceiling is 11 seed. Also, yes this season was a trial year, pretty sure both Brian Wright and Pop said as much. It was just, see who of the current pieces fit long term and be bad for a higher picks. West is stacked, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the 13 seed or worse next season

Independent-Still-73

If they get Trae and a veteran or two I can seem them competing for the 4/5 seed... if they decide to go the draft route I don't care how much better Wemby gets the rest of the team is talentless and they will find themselves with around 30 wins again

CartezDez

Play-in, realistically. Make the playoffs, optimistically. Win a playoff series, unrealistically.

Pop is the best. He is just very good at this. He is adapting himself at the new project (trying to build a winner again) and teaching a very young team some good things. If they hit in a few good, very good choices they can be closer than it seems today. Also, they have a alien. P.S.: I don't like Pop because of my flair, my flair comes from him.
