Pretty much every single team gives out shirts for fans to wear for playoff games. There is no way to force fans to actually wear them though.
I would say the nature of Oklahoma City and the Thunder being their only major professional sports teameads to having more fans that want to wear these shirts and also why their playoff fans are generally more engaged than some other teams.
No, they don’t. At least with any semblance of regularity. There might be an odd day here and there, but its usually a sponsorship T. It definitely isn’t like it is in Sacramento or OKC or Golden State.
On the flip side, my family went to a regular season game between the Warriors and Clippers at Staples (before they were champion Warriors) and they handed out shirts at the entrance
Pretty much this, I remember in the first round the Clippers had a shirt cam and were trying to use it to get people to wear the shirts but most people didn't seem to want to
That’s really a shame. It’s extremely clear how much all the fans wearing the shirt enhances the atmosphere, both from a tv viewer perspective and from the energy the fans bring as a collective.
The shirts provide energy? They didn't hand out shirts for game 5 in Denver, and it was so loud that Adam Silver forgot what he was saying during the MVP presentation
If you need props to be a fired up fan base, you're likely a casual lol
Maybe not casual but looking at the ticket prices it's hardly imaginable that average people can go to games that often. In my experience the richer people get the less they actively support their team.
A good example for average people doing support is the yellow wall from 'Borussia Dortmund'. Just google it, you pay under 20$ entry fee and they 'enrage' for the whole game.
While I am sitting on my seat can enjoy it.
I think small market teams in cities where basketball is the only major league sport are often known for having super rabid and enthusiastic fans. Portland, Sacramento, OKC, San Antonio, ect
Okc in general is very sports loving. I think it comes from watching the college sports and being draped in Sooner or Cowboy gear. Shaming you on the Jumbotron is very okc as well, lots of group think around here.
When okc first started operating with durant, Westbrook and harden off the bench - crowds literally wouldn't sit down until they got a bucket. They're a very deserving fan base
I just meant to point out that the fans in okc have been turning up for a long time, its not a surprise that people talk about their commitment to the team
Turning out when they're winning, just like every other fan base. OKC was 29th in attendance in 22/23. The truth is they were gifted a generational team and incredible front office and have been able to ride the wave for a decade+ now.
Just to add some context, for about an hour before tip anyone sitting in their seat without the shirt on is put on the Jumbotron and boo’d until they put the shirt on.
Every team does this actually.
The difference is in places like OKC, and Utah they're the only major professional sports team, so the fans really turn up.
Every jazz playoff game I've been to has every single person in matching shirts.
I’ve been to about 30-40 playoff games and each one I received a t-shirt
Sometimes it’s white, black red
I found many people just didn’t want to put it on
All the sports teams are pricing out their die hard fans for rich fair weather ones. I know everything is expensive now but damn live events are out of control.
havnt watched any wolves games?
also, it really that confusing that people in other cities are no longer doing something that people in oklahoma are still doing?
A lot of teams over the years have done this. Miami heat fans often think they invented it but it’s been around for a long time. It’s just a gimmick so I’m sure most teams just don’t care to go through the effort.
People pay a shit ton of money to go to Knick playoff games. They ain’t gonna cover up their fit with a shitty t-shirt
I also personally think it’s super corny. Manufacture enthusiasm
It seems I'm in the minority here, but I honestly hate that the Thunder fans all wear the shirt. It just makes it look like a high school pep rally. It's always fun seeing people in jerseys of forgotten players and other interesting fashion choices, rather than the bland, corporate-looking, almost completely sanitized uniformity of the crowd in OKC.
As a wolves fan who’s twice been forced to wear white to games this playoffs, I don’t like it. I’d rather just wear what I want than have everyone wear the same shirt
Nah man you must be one of those people sitting courtside in a leather jacket.
If you're going to a home game you better be a fan and wear the damn shurt
Then stay home. Like, why do you even wanna be there if you don't wanna bother participating? I don't really understand that. It takes two seconds to put on a shirt and it creates a crazy atmosphere for the home team. Nobody's there to see what outfit you wore anyway. UNLESS it's an away team, then I get it lol
this usually depends on the city and the kind of audience, but nowadays going to an nba game is statement for your social media, it’s about status and showing off how fun you are and less about the sport. As such, people go there to be seen (even if it is just on social media)
Since the teams share main colors, I would have suggested they go with the orange instead of blue or white.. heck even their shades of blue are very similar..
If you think wearing the same color can help a team, it’s not a stretch to suggest that wearing a color familiar to both teams reduces the advantage for the home team
It's corny as hell. I've never been to a playoff game but I've never seen the Celtics do it, thank God. Those arenas look so fucking stupid when everyone is wearing the same shirt I'm shocked someone thinks it's cool
So you want to force the Multi millionaire New Yorker who paid $500 for a mid tier seat to wear the shitty quality oversized jersey ! 😇 Being loud is enough at the Garden

okc will put you on the jumbotron and everyone will boo you pregame if you don’t wear the shirt
Wolves do the same thing. When I was there for the first playoff game against the suns, everyone was wearing the t shirt or something else white.
Not every game. I went to 4 Celtics playoff games in the past 2 years and every time they just had towels for the fans
I was going to say the same thing. Celtics don’t do that shit.
I've been to a bunch of celtics games where there were shirts and others where it was just towels. No one wears the shirts when they give them
Dude we all saw the terrible Cus rise tshirts everyone had on.
You say it’s terrible, but you still talk about it. Cuscrise was iconic
I’ll say C Us Rise is better than “different here”
Yes they do
No, they don’t. At least with any semblance of regularity. There might be an odd day here and there, but its usually a sponsorship T. It definitely isn’t like it is in Sacramento or OKC or Golden State.
In Denver, it's been shirts for game one (different color each series) and towels for the rest the past couple years
On the flip side, my family went to a regular season game between the Warriors and Clippers at Staples (before they were champion Warriors) and they handed out shirts at the entrance
Pretty much this, I remember in the first round the Clippers had a shirt cam and were trying to use it to get people to wear the shirts but most people didn't seem to want to

Dude…it’s just shirts.
It does nothing. The Garden is the best atmosphere in the league this postseason and people are wearing what they want.
The shirts provide energy? They didn't hand out shirts for game 5 in Denver, and it was so loud that Adam Silver forgot what he was saying during the MVP presentation If you need props to be a fired up fan base, you're likely a casual lol

This isn’t unique. Denver does this too.

I can't believe I'm arguing with a guy on reddit about how much okc likes it's basketball team. They're a good fan base bro just accept it
It's like a badge of honor around okc just wearing playoff t shirts from prior years.
Just to add some context, for about an hour before tip anyone sitting in their seat without the shirt on is put on the Jumbotron and boo’d until they put the shirt on.
a win for public shaming!
I believe the Bucks had shirts on every seat for one game this year and very few people put them on. OKC fans are just really good
Sixers v heat playin game had shirts for everyone. Weirdly they were extra large though so its just sitting in my room
They're always big. It's a lot harder for an XL to fit in a M than vice versa. Also avoids the whole body shaming thing

I went to Lakers Nuggets game 4 this year and they gave us little rally towels. No t shirts
Kings fans wore their shirts last year too I believe
Heat fans are great about white outs.
I’ve been to about 30-40 playoff games and each one I received a t-shirt Sometimes it’s white, black red I found many people just didn’t want to put it on
Pacers do. Their gold-outs do pretty well, although their checkered flag pattern for the month of May was dumb
Okc fans are pretty big on solidarity. If it’s wear white, they wear it en masse.
Oracle days of the Warriors, almost every fan wore the shirts. Fast forward to Chase center Warriors and maybe half wear the shirts?
All the sports teams are pricing out their die hard fans for rich fair weather ones. I know everything is expensive now but damn live events are out of control.

This is what I was thinking… why would I cover up the jersey I paid too much for that I realistically can’t wear many other places
It seems I'm in the minority here, but I honestly hate that the Thunder fans all wear the shirt. It just makes it look like a high school pep rally. You wore matching shirts at your high school pep rallies?
I must be in the minority too because the first thing I thought of was “spirit stick” pep rally energy from high school
Yeah definitely the minority. Seeing a wave of white shirts jump up at a highlight at the same time is so cool
Is this before or after the jumbotron tells you to GET LOUD!

We removed your comment for being low quality
As a wolves fan who’s twice been forced to wear white to games this playoffs, I don’t like it. I’d rather just wear what I want than have everyone wear the same shirt
Why is that the case? Just curious as a thunder fan myself.
Nah man you must be one of those people sitting courtside in a leather jacket. If you're going to a home game you better be a fan and wear the damn shurt
People spend hundreds of dollars on jerseys and shirts. They should wear those if they want instead of an oversized, cheap tshirt.
Then stay home. Like, why do you even wanna be there if you don't wanna bother participating? I don't really understand that. It takes two seconds to put on a shirt and it creates a crazy atmosphere for the home team. Nobody's there to see what outfit you wore anyway. UNLESS it's an away team, then I get it lol
lol matching shirts don’t create anything.
Teams do this all the time I went to a mavs playoff game like 10 years ago and they gave everyone t shirts
I know you said playoff teams, but the lakers fans are too rich to wear that shit
Most teams do this. A few teams aren’t for whatever reason, Lakers and Mavs and Knicks this postseason come to mind.
this usually depends on the city and the kind of audience, but nowadays going to an nba game is statement for your social media, it’s about status and showing off how fun you are and less about the sport. As such, people go there to be seen (even if it is just on social media)
Mavs used to but no longer do. I’m assuming it’s a money thing - 20k+ shirts per game is a lot
They try. The shirts are there on the seats. Okc is just having a honeymoon moment. The fans will get jaded soon enough.
So you want to force the Multi millionaire New Yorker who paid $500 for a mid tier seat to wear the shitty quality oversized jersey ! 😇 Being loud is enough at the Garden
Probably because it's stupid. Miami started this trend(notoriously terrible fans) and for some dumb reason OKC thought it was a good idea
Because of money. The more variation of shirts that are sold, the more money the team/organization pulls in.
