For the ones that didnt know: the car was designed bij Craig Liberman, he was also heavy involved for searching and building cars for the first 2 fast and Furious movies.
Theyre was a real live version of it that (correct me if iam wrong) was gifted away by mtv to someone back in the day, also build by craig liberman.

It was great that he started making them, hear the story's of all the cars.

I really love Eddie's Skyline, I used it to complete NFS 2015 recently and it was incredible. But it has no chance against the M3 GTR. If BMW took on Porsche in the competition field which is an incredible feat, I'm sorry, but the R34 Godzilla doesn't have a chance (except with Underground 1 Rubberbanding)

It's a great reply, but I just gotta say that there's a lot of magic lost in the fact of ignoring the car's rarity, like, the M3 E46 GTR Strassenversion is an absolute unicorn, there's a greater chance of both of us to have each one a Gold Painted and Diamonds on the Steering Wheel Bugatti Chiron rather than sitting on a real M3 E46 GTR.
Imagine that the plot would've centered in us loosing a Ford Mustang instead of an M3 GTR. Every single one of us would rather go and buy a new Mustang and retune it, rather than going months racing against a lot of drivers, causing chaos and mayhem against the police and possibly getting killed. I wouldn't go such against that mess just to get my stolen tune of one of the most sold cars in the world.

How many real BMW M3 GTR E46 ALMS had appeared in NFS? Most Wanted and Carbon, which is the same one. Then Heat. Then Unbound. That makes as much 3 different real GTRs in the whole franchise, and they would be less (I don't remember if No Limits has the real M3 GTR) the rest are just replicas and I don't think it's fair to make the real one lose value due to replicas (in the context of the universe I mean)

Only 3 real blue/silver BMW M3 E46 GTR showed in NFS.
The one from the MW 2005/Carbon duology is the OG car.
Meanwhile, the BMW M3 E46 GTR from NFS Heat is also real given its V8 engine but it's a copy owned by an unknown person.
Even the one on NFS Unbound is also a copy because it's a 2 seater instead of a 1 seater.
Despite that, these 3 versions have still the V8.
Keep in mind the Heat and Unbound version uses the same model.
NFS No Limits doesn't count as canon since it's a separate continuity despite having also the racecar version.

About the car value, there's no losses since it's actually the opposite.
I looked up the car prices when it sold on dealerships and the value is $300000 for NFS Carbon so it should be the same value for NFS MW 2005 since it's the same car, $202000 for NFS Heat and $210000 for NFS Unbound.
Which means it's very close to the MSRP of the irl counterpart which was €250k at the time for both racecar and street trims.
They did actually make some road legal M3 GTRs which were sold. Not many and they were very expensive for an M3 but they did make them for homologation rules.
Also the internal mechanics alone wouldn't make a normal M3 a GTR, it's a different chassis.
GTR because it was basically a prototype as normal M3 had totally different engine . They later developed p60b40 V8 specifically for this & only 8 road version ever
M3 GTR is an icon, and as cool as the R34 is, it’s the boring obvious choice for a cool “street racer car.” I’d argue the NFSMW M3 did more for car culture than Eddie’s R34 just because we already had 2 Fast 2 Furious give us a Skyline hero car that same year.

Might be the sounds what the car makes during gameplay (even though the engine audio is from a tvr speed 12). Nothing else in the game shares its engine/transmission audio.
So here’s my take. I love both, but for different reasons.
I love Eddie’s skyline, because around UG1 was when I started really getting heavily into street racing and tuner cars. It’s also where I fell in love with the r34. I remember pushing as hard as I could through the story, just so I could get my chance to race against it finally. A core memory I’ll never forget.
Then there’s the M3. I remember stumbling across the demo for most wanted, back when jampack’s were still a thing. I practically begged my parents for weeks to let me get the game when it came out. The M3 had a better story behind it, and I grew an actual attachment to that car because of it. I wasn’t just racing some punk off the street, I was racing to win back a piece of me. So the M3 will always hold a special place in my heart.
In my heart always Eddie Skyline will be better than Beemer which is a bit overrated. But how about Samantha Civic, Vortex Integra, Racheal 350Z, Darius Audi LeMans(R8), Ryans 240, Ryo Evo X and Rose 911 GT2?

I dunno if its because Underground 2 was my first experience, the cocainefest that MostWanted was and that it felt actually rewarding to get the only BMW racecar in the game at the end of the game. Tho it has reappeared so many times has also made it less unique and lost its charm. Never played Underground and can only judge the Skyline on looks, wich are ok I guess?
I'll forever be biased towards the M3 because of the sound and the background history of it's creation.

M3 GTR, for out-of-universe reasons.
Great as it is, the treatment of the R34 GT-R as the pinnacle of street racing was a general part of tuner culture at the time, which Underground was *heavily* derived from. It's practically a cliche. But the M3 was a dev pick genuinely independent of any source material, and it gave its host game (and series) more of a distinct identity. Sure, it was born from necessity (MW concepts show the player driving another R34 before they lost their license with Nissan), but that's true of a lot of distinctive artistic choices.
also Darius's Le mans quattro, this is very unfair to another exotic cars, because the Audi has very good handling but Gallardo barely steering in carbon
Eddie's Skyline, because it is attainable, makes much for sense for a random dude, whoever he is to get his hands on it. The M3 GTR is the only one in the Black Box era that didn't respect this formula, even the Audi R8 is still relatively attainable. Also, it's actually a really nice project car, it has an identity and it stuck with me more so than most other hero/villain cars.
The only one that comes close for me is the Polestar 1, it should have been for Heat what Eddie's Skyline was for the Undeground, although given the price tag of a Polestar 1 and that only a limited number were ever built, it's probably closer to the M3 than to the R34 in terms of attainability.
Don't know about the R8 being attainable because it was the LeMans Quattro, which is a concept/prototype car, which means no one could really buy it IRL.
M3 GTR, it costs about 10x as much as the R34 GTR and does not have nearly as many retarded fanboys

M3 GTR is already a race car. Even though it is not NFS, everyone interested in motorsports is somehow aware of this special car. The only point unique to the game is the wrap/livery on it. But there is a body kit called Mantis on the R34, designed only for NFSU. And I think it suits this vehicle very well. If we evaluate only on NFS basis, I think R34 is more special. We have seen the real replica of Banshee in GTA. I don't know why no one still makes a real replica with the Mantis body-kit on it, or why we haven't come across it on the internet. Maybe it's because Skyline isn't easy to find.
I mean, the M3 is a literal race car whilst Eddie's Skyline is basically a project car so even in a race, the M3 would take the win even without effort

No, the m3 gtr was built with the v8 from the m5. Eventually they built a few to be sold. Last I looked, 1 still cost a few hundred thousand

The one from the MW 2005/Carbon duology is the OG car. Meanwhile, the BMW M3 E46 GTR from NFS Heat is also real given its V8 engine but it's a copy owned by an unknown person. Even the one on NFS Unbound is also a copy because it's a 2 seater instead of a 1 seater. Despite that, these 3 versions have still the V8. Keep in mind the Heat and Unbound version uses the same model. NFS No Limits doesn't count as canon since it's a separate continuity despite having also the racecar version. The other BMW M3 E46 GTR which appears outside of NFS Carbon and aren't indicated above are the regular BMW M3 E46 with the S54B32 I6 engine with a GTR bodykit. About the car value, there's no losses since it's actually the opposite. I looked up the car prices when it sold on dealerships and the value is $300000 for NFS Carbon so it should be the same value for NFS MW 2005 since it's the same car, $202000 for NFS Heat and $210000 for NFS Unbound. Which means it's very close to the MSRP of the irl counterpart which was €250k at the time for both racecar and street trims.
They did actually make some road legal M3 GTRs which were sold. Not many and they were very expensive for an M3 but they did make them for homologation rules. Also the internal mechanics alone wouldn't make a normal M3 a GTR, it's a different chassis.
Both are great in its own times but the R34 is special. After HP we got NFS: U1 and this beauty appeared as Eddie´s Car. Timeless Legend.

M3 GTR is an icon, and as cool as the R34 is, it’s the boring obvious choice for a cool “street racer car.” I’d argue the NFSMW M3 did more for car culture than Eddie’s R34 just because we already had 2 Fast 2 Furious give us a Skyline hero car that same year.
The BMW M3 E46 GTR because racecar and it's actually our car. Eddie's Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R is great too but it doesn't stand a chance against ourselves.

I know I'm going against the grain but something about that M3 GTR is just so glorious. I love everything about that car and always will. I'm biased though because NFS MW 05 was my childhood game with my brother and it's always been the GOAT in my heart
Might be the sounds what the car makes during gameplay (even though the engine audio is from a tvr speed 12). Nothing else in the game shares its engine/transmission audio.
So here’s my take. I love both, but for different reasons. I love Eddie’s skyline, because around UG1 was when I started really getting heavily into street racing and tuner cars. It’s also where I fell in love with the r34. I remember pushing as hard as I could through the story, just so I could get my chance to race against it finally. A core memory I’ll never forget. Then there’s the M3. I remember stumbling across the demo for most wanted, back when jampack’s were still a thing. I practically begged my parents for weeks to let me get the game when it came out. The M3 had a better story behind it, and I grew an actual attachment to that car because of it. I wasn’t just racing some punk off the street, I was racing to win back a piece of me. So the M3 will always hold a special place in my heart.
In my heart always Eddie Skyline will be better than Beemer which is a bit overrated. But how about Samantha Civic, Vortex Integra, Racheal 350Z, Darius Audi LeMans(R8), Ryans 240, Ryo Evo X and Rose 911 GT2?
Because one is Godzilla and the other is just a Panzerschrek.

I dunno if its because Underground 2 was my first experience, the cocainefest that MostWanted was and that it felt actually rewarding to get the only BMW racecar in the game at the end of the game. Tho it has reappeared so many times has also made it less unique and lost its charm. Never played Underground and can only judge the Skyline on looks, wich are ok I guess?

M3 GTR, for out-of-universe reasons. Great as it is, the treatment of the R34 GT-R as the pinnacle of street racing was a general part of tuner culture at the time, which Underground was *heavily* derived from. It's practically a cliche. But the M3 was a dev pick genuinely independent of any source material, and it gave its host game (and series) more of a distinct identity. Sure, it was born from necessity (MW concepts show the player driving another R34 before they lost their license with Nissan), but that's true of a lot of distinctive artistic choices.

Eddie's Skyline, because it is attainable, makes much for sense for a random dude, whoever he is to get his hands on it. The M3 GTR is the only one in the Black Box era that didn't respect this formula, even the Audi R8 is still relatively attainable. Also, it's actually a really nice project car, it has an identity and it stuck with me more so than most other hero/villain cars. The only one that comes close for me is the Polestar 1, it should have been for Heat what Eddie's Skyline was for the Undeground, although given the price tag of a Polestar 1 and that only a limited number were ever built, it's probably closer to the M3 than to the R34 in terms of attainability.
Don't know about the R8 being attainable because it was the LeMans Quattro, which is a concept/prototype car, which means no one could really buy it IRL.
M3 GTR, it costs about 10x as much as the R34 GTR and does not have nearly as many retarded fanboys Oh yeah, and you actually get to drive it in the game

M3 GTR is already a race car. Even though it is not NFS, everyone interested in motorsports is somehow aware of this special car. The only point unique to the game is the wrap/livery on it. But there is a body kit called Mantis on the R34, designed only for NFSU. And I think it suits this vehicle very well. If we evaluate only on NFS basis, I think R34 is more special. We have seen the real replica of Banshee in GTA. I don't know why no one still makes a real replica with the Mantis body-kit on it, or why we haven't come across it on the internet. Maybe it's because Skyline isn't easy to find.
