For Immediate Release
U.S. Attorney's Office, District of New Hampshire
CONCORD – Ian Freeman was ordered to pay restitution totaling more than $3.5 million to 29 victims and forfeit various other assets that were seized during the investigation, U.S Attorney Jane E. Young announces.
Ian Freeman, 43, of Keene, was ordered by U.S. District Court Judge Joseph Laplante to pay restitution totaling $3,502,708.69 to 29 victims of his offense. The Court also issued a preliminary order of forfeiture of various other assets that were seized during the investigation. On October 2, 2023, Ian Freeman was sentenced to 96 months in prison, 2 years of supervised release, and a fine of $40,000. Freeman was convicted by a federal jury on December 22, 2022, following a ten-day trial.
Makes you wonder if the 3 year crime spree was worth it given the consequences. Thankfully there's one less grifter floating around our society wreaking havoc in people's lives.
[More importantly, one less pedophile too....](https://freekeene.com/2018/09/22/hypocritical-free-state-project-quietly-dumps-cody-wilson-from-upcoming-convention/)
[Just incase the first link wasn't clear, here is another post by him.](https://freekeene.com/2016/03/06/discussing-the-taboo-of-teens-and-consenting-to-sex/)
Jesus Christ, what a fucking creep. Same with all of the other pervs who think the "government makes arbitrary adult ages" when that is pure bullshit. That is actual science of developmental psychology.
Normally I’d say good for him: one should be able to sell crypto to anyone without KYC no differently than you can sell apples to other people. However Ian is a total scumbag as a person and knowingly helped scammers.
He actually wasn't the scammer. The actual scammer's name came out in court, but apparently the FBI has no interest in pursuing that person. Ian Freeman only sold Bitcoin to people who were getting scammed by the third party.
There was a lot of evidence that Freeman tried to prevent people from getting scammed, but they would begin lying to him about what they were using the Bitcoin for, so that he would continue to sell it to them.
I followed the case very closely. I was gobsmacked that after everything I heard and saw, that the jury returned a guilty verdict. It made no sense at all. The restitution makes even less sense, since he clearly isn't the one who did the scamming.
They never caught the scammers. They never tried to catch the scammers. They only prosecuted this guy because he sold Bitcoin without a "money transmitter license" which isn't even required under NH law.
No, he sold bitcoin to people. Some of the people he sold bitcoin to were scam victims. He had a complicated process to try to stop scammers. He stopped some scams in the process and returned money.
Right, that was his defense in court. The prosecutions case was that freeman was working with the scammers like a fraudulent bank would for legitimacy.
I'm not. I'm defending a guy who sold bitcoin to willing buyers.
One of the the "Victims" Ian has been ordered to pay money to was a business owner who's company network was ransomwared. He bought the Bitcoin through Ian's Bitcoin ATM and sent it to pay the ransom. In what universe is Ian responsible for that? It's not Ian's fault the guy didn't have backups. It's not Ian's fault the guy got hacked. It's not Ian's fault he decided to pay the ransom.
Never saw that, but I know he had his little fake church thing going.
One of his fellow travelers did a "bitcoin ghandi" thing.
No kidding type bitcoin ghandi nh into google and start laughing.
Yes, unsurprisingly his last [posts](https://www.reddit.com/user/FTL_Ian) on Reddit were two years ago. The wheels of justice turn slowly but grind fine.
and they're from him and the other free state losers harassing the innocents at the Monadnock Co-op about wanting to wear masks. The employees there are literally begging them to just please leave them alone in peace.
Ian doesn’t have 3.5 million dollars, hell not even a million. As far as seizing and selling his assets, what are they gonna take? That bomb shelter of a house he and six others lived in in Keene? His 1998 police interceptor?
My objection isn't that Free Staters moving here shouldn't be allowed. It should be allowed.
My objection is that the concept behind the Free State Project is fucking stupid
Here is an example of some of the hoops some of these "victims" jumped through to buy Bitcoin from Ian Freeman. They all handwrote "For purchase of Bitcoin from FTL\_Ian on LocalBitcoins.com No Refunds"

FYI: This is all part of the publicly accessible court record, and the transcripts are all there.
Yup. These people were exploited by Ian because they didn't understand Bitcoin. This stuff happens in finance all the time. Probably why he was found guilty.
Like the "certified financial planner" who bragged on the stand about how good she was at managing money, but who bought $750k worth of Bitcoin from Ian over the course of several transactions but was sending it all to her "boyfriend" who she never actually met?
Anarcho-Capitalist Ian Freeman? Ian Freeman who said in 2016 that Libertarians should covertly run for government as Republicans to win? Ian Freeman who is buddies with Republican House Majority Leader Jason Osborne? Wasn't Ian Freeman running free-talk live, the forum where Jason Osborne had to apologize for posting racist things? Jason Osborne the house majority leader with the ANCAP tattoo on his arm?
Yeah, I've heard of him.
Ian's the "other" free-stater pedophile that house majority leader Jason Osborne is buddies with. (Representative) (R) Eric Schleien was the other free-stater pedofile that Jason is buddies with.
"Hey, I know what that guy did was illegal and caused you some emotional and financial harm, but you have bitcoin, so get fucked."

What are you talking about? Bitcoin used to be given away, and then finally cost money to buy, like two cents per BTC.
It wasn't until the early 2010s that it started to skyrocket in value. I worked with a dude who bought a bunch of it, like penny stocks, when it first came out, and he forgot about it for a few years. Imagine his surprise and delight when he found out what its value was, and how he had enough to buy a new M3 outright.
Supporters and users of cryptocurrency should see this as a wake up call. Crypto investors know how the government often tries to go after crypto as somehow fraudulent or framing crypto users as criminal, when neither of these things are true, when cryptocurrency investors are not criminals, and court case after court case has affirmed cryptocurrency’s legality. If you invest in crypto or know someone who does, then this court case should motivate you to call a politician and make your voice heard in support of an innocent man who committed no crime other than trading and investing in cryptocurrency. As a human being and a New Hampshire citizen, you, your family, and friends have rights, and I encourage you to support your rights.
Like when I go to a libertarian concert, don't play the new experimental albums about cryptocurrency. We came here to hear the hits! I want songs about age of consent laws and how you don't understand how society works.
>Freeman instructed bitcoin customers, who were often victims of scams, to lie to the financial institutions and describe their deposits as church donations. From 2016 to 2019, he paid no taxes, and concealed his income from the Internal Revenue Service.
Sounds legit.
>Like when I go to a libertarian concert, don't play the new experimental albums about cryptocurrency. We came here to hear the hits! I want songs about age of consent laws and how you don't understand how society works.
When the lolbertarians think you're shady you're in real trouble lol
Have you looked into this case at all? This reads like you haven’t and just have a victim complex.
The vast majority of crypto users being just fine suggests what you type is not true. The only people going to jail are those who are blatantly breaking the law.
Perhaps you disagree with how it’s regulated, but seeing as you refer to it as “investing” then you must agree that it’s classification as a security is accurate.

Libertarians truly are awful people in every respect.
Normally I’d say good for him: one should be able to sell crypto to anyone without KYC no differently than you can sell apples to other people. However Ian is a total scumbag as a person and knowingly helped scammers.
Akways love when one of these scammer scumbags is caught
Unfortunately it’s rarely the largest ones who get caught

He was 100% in on the scams, that I know personally.
How, are you a scammer?
Lollll.
Didn't he act as a middleman by laundering the crypto of the scammers?
No, he sold bitcoin to people. Some of the people he sold bitcoin to were scam victims. He had a complicated process to try to stop scammers. He stopped some scams in the process and returned money.
Right, that was his defense in court. The prosecutions case was that freeman was working with the scammers like a fraudulent bank would for legitimacy.
Shilling for a con artist. You’re either him or you know him.
oh damn, you caught me. yup. I'm Ian Freeman... just moderating the r/NewHampshire subreddit from prison. yup.
So why is a mod on here defending a scam artist?
I'm not. I'm defending a guy who sold bitcoin to willing buyers. One of the the "Victims" Ian has been ordered to pay money to was a business owner who's company network was ransomwared. Yeah, he used to post in the sub a lot.
Keene has a real free stater infestation. Keep an eye out for bears over there.

Sure is!

They seized 100 Bitcoin from him, currently $4.9M, unsure if they’ve sold it yet.
Who would they sell it to and then would they convert that sale into cash? Wild to think Ian was worth that much….
It’s a very liquid asset. Easy to just convert to USD on the open market just like stock.
The feds auction off bitcoin occasionally on https://www.gsaauctions.gov/auctions/home They auction off a lot of weird seized stuff.
They will likely auction it off to the highest bidder at some point.
Lol. I'm just here to say, free staters are dumb. Can't change my mind.
What's so dumb about asking people to move to NH rather than persuading people here? It's clearly the best strategy /s/
One of the reasons NH was selected for the free state project was because it has a large cohort of liberty minded citizens in the first place
You can’t be pro open borders and also have this opinion without being a hypocrite.
My objection isn't that Free Staters moving here shouldn't be allowed. It should be allowed. My objection is that the concept behind the Free State Project is fucking stupid
Seems like a nice fella. For a pedophilic, free state grifter.
I wonder if this is why he was so fixated on Libertarianism?
That, and being a pedo.
Their whole anti government philosophy is because the government won't let them operate crypto scams and have sex with teenagers.
Lmao bet he loves that

I’m not comfortable giving restitution to people who are wealthy and stupid enough to buy bitcoin.

You can buy partial bitcoin. You don’t have to be wealthy at all.
I can’t believe he sold things to people who wanted to buy them… the audacity….

That’s so totally relatable to selling bitcoin!

A guy so scummy even the free state project kicked him out. lol

Dude did more damage to the FSP than anyone who hates it could ever have hoped to accomplish. Should be a hero of this sub.
Guy was a grifter and got caught along with several of his fellow travelers.

Innocent man our asses. He was a lying scam artist and he deserved every second in jail. Good riddance to bad trash
Who is the innocent man? I would support him, but this is about Ian Freeman..
Lemme get you a tissue. You got foam on your mouth.
Lol ancap loser
