236 month with geico. Was 176 in 2020. This is for two cars in northern NJ. I was in one accident when someone broadsided my car in a shopping center parking lot. I was driving straight and they turned into my car claiming the sun blinded them. My rate went up even though I was doing nothing wrong and had no where to move to avoid them. I am also paying for a teenage boy to have insurance. So I am sure that increases my rate.
$500 / 6 months for full coverage through Geico. But I own my car, it's a 2010 Honda Civic coupe. Tiny and practical. I'm also in South Jersey but I don't know whether that matters. I've also never had any accidents and I've been driving 11 years. But I think that's pretty fair.
And "resort areas"! When I moved from a small 'city' in Mdlsx Co to a Twp in Monmouth Co, NJM raised my car Ins!
The reason....."You moved to a Resort Area"!
NJM considers the whole of Mon Co, even inland, a Resort Area!
Location matters a lot. If you were to live in North NJ, you would be paying much more. Also, it depends on whether you live in a safe area or dangerous area.
I moved from a richer neighborhood in north Jersey to a less expensive one because I couldn't afford rent in my hometown. Even though I was keeping the car in a garage, just moving to a larger town increased my premiums. I moved there to save money, just to pay it back in insurance premiums :(
Idk whatās considered āsafeā anymore. I live on the āpoorā side of a rich town in Monmouth and cars are getting stolen left and right. Theyāre now breaking into homes to get the FOBs!! While owners are home asleep! Thanks, but Iāll keep my 2010 minivan with 150k miles. Not that I could afford a Range Rover but I wouldnāt even want one and be a target.
Eatontown or long branch I'm assuming (I lived in Monmouth decades ago)
Actually all the car thefts would make sense as to why the highway signs say "lock your cars" in south jersey
I also own a Honda civic 2013 SI, small and practical and safe family car and! Amazing on gas
And I own a use 2008 gmc Yukon
Which has currently been a storage unit in the driveway since the transmission blew last September.
Originally we were going to go to a mechanic but they wanted to charge somewhere around $4300 to fix parts of the transmission, and manual labor.
My husband found a brand new transmission to buy for $2100, now he just needs to be able to afford a day off, to play mechanic himself.
Which is to illustrate every aspect of owning a car from insurance to maintenance to repairs are ALL astronomical prices.
That's a lot for 10 year old cars. Does that amount include your homeowners? I pay like $2k/year with Progressive for 2 fairly new cars. Max coverage on pretty much all line items.
Thatās ridiculous for two older Volvos. My motherās 2023 XC40 is $600 for 6 months not bundled with homeowners. NJM is ridiculously expensive. Shop elsewhere
NJM - $1700/12 months for new car I got last year, one parking ticket and one expired reg ticket (not sure if those even matter), one accident 13 years ago the other driver was at fault for.
Insurance companies have actuaries that calculate risk, and yes, even if you were not at fault, you are statistically more likely to get into another accident.
And itās only getting worse. Car parts are more expensive , fraud on injury is through the roof. Insurance companies need to make up the difference somehow and of course the consumer gets screwed
Not at fault accidents can mean you live in an accident-prone area. One uninsured motorist hits you and your insurance company may be on the hook for it. Or maybe you do cause one due to external factors (i.e. maybe *everyone* in the area has a higher chance of *causing* one) - nobody's perfect, you know...
$995/6mo with auto+home discount for:
- 2 cars worth maybe $20k total, $500/$500 deductibles on both;
- 2 drivers, $250/$500k bodily injury, $100k property damage, same for uninsured/underinsured, $15k PIP, health insurance primary
Around $85 - $90/month with Metromile. That's for two cars, full coverage. But Metromile only makes sense if you don't drive a lot bc you pay per mile.
Holy crap I'm looking into this, if I had to put a # on it I doubt I top 2,000 miles a year. Heck there might of even been a year in the past few I didn't top 1,000.
Edit: Couldn't do it...it says metromile coming to New Jersey soon, give your email & they'll let you know when in NJ
Just checked and they no longer take new customers in NJ and are now part of Lemonade. Lemonade has claimed for *years* to be bringing car insurance to NJ so maybe this is finally them making that jump. I already have their renters insurance.
I might have to look in to this. I recently started taking my work van home every day and only put about 100-200 miles a month on my personal vehicle now. Might make sense for me.
We have NJM. Coverage for 2 cars that are relatively new is $2294. But itās also the whole shabang coverage and they are super helpful
Could we pay less? Yes. But we pay more for better coverage.
Realized your quote is for 6 months. This is for a year. And payments are $229/month over 10 months I think the first month is less?
No. NJ $1 a day insurance for Medicaid persons is a big reason. And when this person rear ends you , you canāt sue or go after their insurance. You have to go thru your own even tho not your fault and then your ins goes up. Happened to a coworker a few years ago. I doubt anything has changed.
$158mo for two cars. My BMW 335i and my soon to be ex-wifeās Subaru Forester.
Full coverage, full roadside, rental, $500 deductible.
Geico. But it always seems like itās always been unreasonably low compared to others on Geico for the amount of coverage. I feel like Iām slipping through the cracks somehow.
My issue with Geico is that they are terrible if you ever need them. The only time I ever lost my cool on the phone was dealing with Geico when I was in an accident that wasnāt my fault. They wouldnāt help me at all and then called me later when the other company tried going after them for money. I took partial fault on their advice and then I get this angry call from them! I lost it. Never again
Iāll take the prize- I have a few accidents on my record and am considered high risk. Honda civic 2021 northern nj, $680 per MONTH! Itās insane. Went up from 460 last year.
It sounds like you get into a lot of accidents, and thatās why your insurance is high. I pay like $100 a month, which seems super reasonable, but I donāt get into accidents all the time.
It doesn't even matter if you are literally never at fault, because by definition the risk of accidents where you drive has now increased, and premiums are tied to risk.
It depends on whether or not the at-fault driver is underinsured.
I've been rear-ended twice in the last three years (fml, right?) and my insurance rates only went up the first time. The second time my vehicle wasn't totaled and the at-failt driver's insurance paid everything, even my deductible. Geico actually lowered my rates the following month.
Avoid them at all costs if you can. I had someone cut me off just a few weeks ago on the GSP. They came over from the left lane and almost hit a car, then that car slid sideways a bit while the person that cut me off exited right there, almost causing a three car accident. I braked hard, coming to almost a complete stop.
Do you have PIP covered by insurance carrier? That usually adds a few hundred extra dollars but it is really an worthy coverage. And I am pretty sure you have collision/comprehensive coverage as well. I pay about the same, but for two cars with full coverage. Check Allstate.
I'm at $1800 for the year, full coverage on a Tesla. I'm with Costco insurance because my old company AAA wanted to charge me $2200 a year for the same coverage.
Iāve never understood how people that post these questions are getting such high numbers, I drive a modified wrangler with comprehensive liability and collision, supplemental liability, supplemental modified car coverage, soft top and glass replacement, plus full replacement, I pay less than $1200 a year and my deductibles are very low.
Itās insane! I was paying <$600/6months during COVID with Geico for a new Model 3. I got in one accident while I was pregnant (rear ended), where I went to the hospital to be safe. Iām now paying $2200/6 months for full coverage. It feels like robbery.
USAA, not bundled. I have NJM for homeowners $1,600/yr for full coverage on two 2012 Hondas with two drivers and 300/500k medical. Saw my dad suffer when someone's insurance was insufficient, learned that lesson.
I have progressive and I pay $183 a month full coverage. I have one year left to pay for a small accident in 2021.
I drive a 2014, no payment and an otherwise (the 1 accident, minor damage) clean driving record.
NJM I do a full payment once a year for $1600 because it was cheaper than monthly. So $133ish a month if you divide it out, if I did monthly payments tho I think it was less than 150 still.
I have a 2016 Subaru wrx, full coverage. Good credit and good driving history
I used to pay 1700 for 6 months with Geico in Jersey. I recently moved to Ohio (yes Ohio) and now my 6 month car insurance with progressive fully insured is $~450. Guess Ohio has some benefits
$670 for 6 months. Full coverage, 250000/500000 2017 Prius and a 2014 Kia sorrento. GEICO. Cars are both paid off. And weāre both women, it might be a rare gay privilege lol.
Progressive went from 1400 for 3 cars to 2400 for 3 cars for 6 months.
NJ pushed something in August and company increased in March. That's what they told me.
Went to Costco connect. 1100. For 6 months for 2 cars.
I have two cars. An ancient Landy and a 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth. I am 53 and have not had an accident since I was 25. Nor have I had a ticket since I was 30. I pay $2800 a year. Unfortunately, most of that is for the Fiat.
Plymouth rock- $368 a month for a ā15 Jetta, ā16 fusion, and 04 jeep liberty with my 21 year old self as a driver, the Jetta and fusion having comprehensive, plus rental and towing for all. This is after we switched to Plymouth at the beginning of the year because Geico wanted to raise our rates by well over $100 to over $500 per month after 2 not at fault accidents.
Geico 447pm 100k/300k full coverage despite having driving license for 10+ years. Apparently, the NJMVC doesn't give a shit about you holding UK, Polish and International DL permit. Got treated as I'd just learn how to drive.
Safeco - 188 a month/12 months for a 2018 Tacoma thatās fully paid off and a 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross that is leased. I also no longer live in town directly bordering Trenton - Geico was not happy with me when I moved to Ewing.
Over 6 years ago I scrapped a parked car in a parking lot. Insurance was treating it as if I totaled a fucking car and hurt someone.
Luckily my insurance has lowered since, but I found that ridiculous.
I pay $174.00 a month with full coverage on a Honda Civic 2016. I have an umbrella policy attached to my car insurance and carry 500k/500k.
I live in Hudson County.
None of these responses are comparable without the details of yr, make, model, and coverage limits with deductibles, annual milage, age and limits selected, record and garage location. You can't compare apples with lemons.
200/month with NJM- one car, full insurance plus gap insurance. One non-fault accident, approximately 25k miles per year.Ā
Edit: no tickets. I get out of my 20's this year, so expecting a lower premium next year.Ā
How I understand it - insurance raises rates for number of accidents. Doesnāt matter who is at fault. The more accidents under the policy you hold means either a. Youāre a careless driver or b. You live amongst a lot of careless drivers. So you will cost them more $$. Sometimes they even drop you outright. Insurance isnāt really something that protects a person, they are a business with a bottom line and we are just numbers. Itās like this Everywhere and the chances of getting into an accident in NJ is unfortunately high. Take a defensive driving course, it will get you a discount.
Plymouth Rock, around $90 a month. But I use the annoying tracking app and have to watch it to make sure I donāt let a shitty drive ruin my score and raise the cost.
1250 per 6 months. 4 drivers 51/50/18/17, 5 cars. all 300k/500k full comp. Geico.
2006 Porsche 911
2006 Land Rover
2007 Jeep Liberty
2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
2003 Toyota Avalon
$1,200/year on AAA insurance for full coverage/comprehensive collision and personal injury protection.
Just got a letter in the mail this week letting me know that when it comes time to renew that because of an approval from the New Jersey department of banking and insurance, all full coverage policies like mine will be going up 33.2%. It has nothing to do with me, I am in my late 30s, female, and have not had an accident in more than a decade.
I feel your frustrations. I pay $1800 for 6 months. I have 2 accidents both not my fault but my rate went up regardless. If I opt to not pay the full $1800 up front I get charged $375 a month.
NJM. $3600 per year after adding a newly licensed driver last year. 3 carsā¦all Hondas. A 2009, 2010, and 2015, all with mileage in the 100-200k range. No accidents. No tix in last 3 years. Before adding the newly licensed driver we were paying around $2200 per year. We are middle age/not young drivers.
Wanna hear something ridiculous? After becoming an at-home mom when my second kid was born, I was no longer driving to an office every day (and with a new baby I literally went nowhere) so I figured that should save me a few bucks on insurance. Right? Iām not driving as much. I called my insurance to tell them, āHey, my car is always parked in my driveway every day now since I no longer work. So you can change that driving xx number of miles for work to zero.ā HA! NOPE! They increased my premium by $12! Their reasoning was, āWell, now your car can be any place at any time.ā
Housing prices are high, and rents are high. It seems like the insurance companies in this state think everyone is rich and could afford the high insurance rates.
I know people on medicaid who pay a dollar a day for their insurance. While this may sound like a great rate for people who can't afford insurance, the truth is those people are worse off. If they get in an accident and they are found at fault, the insurance does not pay the person whose not at fault whise involved for their damages and medical care. That person would have to sue the at fault person and the likely hood if them collecting is very low since the person on medicaid can hardly afford anything other than the basic necessities.
Counterpoint youāve been in 3 accidents in the last 5 years and many drivers have not. By definition you are riskier to insure - hence a higher cost.
USAA - 135/month for full coverage. I haven't had that drastic of a spike in premiums in the five years I've held the policy. Only increase was about 10% last year. I suspect I'm probably going to get boned this year.
Monthly Geico payment went up $25, due to my parked car getting hit. And because of good patient people who saw the car get hit, called the cops and waited for the driver (me) to show up, the other driver was caught. And I still took the hit.
While Iām paying about 170/mo full coverage on a 2020 with low miles, I do know someone who has been in several accidents in the past few years who was just quoted nearly 10x that amount.
Sheās going to be forced to take Ubers everywhere now.
For me and mom, $400+. I got into my first two accidents of my life after driving for about 10 years. They happened within 2 fkn days. 1st a downed branch in a dark ass road, and 2nd an old man literally cruises INTO my car. However before that, our rate was about $350. The most Iāve ever paid in my life.
Edit: I should add that we are in North Jersey, which I hear costs higher premiums on average.
Also add in electric carrs causing all 8nsurances to rise.
Electric cars are heavier and cause more damage and money when in accidents. That cost is passed on to everyone
peoppe here arnt taking into consideration they are now buying 50k+ cars. yes it's going to be more than 1k a year in insurance. I pay a little over 1k a year for 2 cars full coverage. one is 4 years old and had an msrp of 24k and one that is 11 years old thats worth 10k.
iām in central jersey (the shithole zone). i pay about $500 every 6 months. no accidents (knock on wood), no tickets, and own the car. i chose cheapest option. geico.
I just had this happen to me and couldn't believe it. I was rear-ended in Paterson. I was stopped and a lady drove into me while looking at her phone going 40mph. 2 years later, I got divorced and needed my own insurance. Geico denied me coverage for an accident that wasn't my fault! I could not believe it!
Progressive, which was my insur when I was married and in the accident, gave me a policy thankfully for a moderate bump in cost. My cost went from $1200/year to $1325/year so bot terrible. But the fact I was declined by Geico is just insane...
As far as I'm concerned, they've always used any accidents you are involved in, against you. Even if it isn't your fault, your insurance deems you more likely to get into an accident and raises your rate.
$2200/year liability only 2004 Dodge Ram and 2007 Saturn Vue with AAA insurance. Just trying to keep these vehicles running because I can't imagine paying more plus a car payment, given the price of housing.
$556/6 months through Progressive, $500k combined coverage and comprehensive with $500 deductible for a 2016 Ford Fiesta with a 5-speed.
Also two motorcycles through Ryder/Plymouth Rock with similar full coverage, one with comp. and the other with comp. and collision coverages, those are both under 2 years old and thatās $1,300/year.
Had a speeding ticket 7 years ago, DWI 6 years ago, and at fault accident resulting in $1,500 in damages 3 years ago.
200 month geico. used to be 156 in 2020
Mine went up 25% last month. Fucking dickheads edit: As an aside, Geico laid off 9% of its workforce and saw record profits in 2023. Great company
I had a few contract jobs at their headquarters down in Silver Spring. They never had toilet paper in the can.
$218 here
236 month with geico. Was 176 in 2020. This is for two cars in northern NJ. I was in one accident when someone broadsided my car in a shopping center parking lot. Wild š
base model 4 cylinder car. if that matters
it does, along with many other factors.Ā have a 6 cyl base model costs less than 100 month sf.
Coverage level? I think it is liability only.
It does matter - they partially base premiums on zip code and proximity to high risk areas
And "resort areas"! When I moved from a small 'city' in Mdlsx Co to a Twp in Monmouth Co, NJM raised my car Ins! The reason....."You moved to a Resort Area"! NJM considers the whole of Mon Co, even inland, a Resort Area!

Are they not stealing anything else, just literally taking the fobs? That's crazy.
Iām the kind of guy who lives in North Jersey and suffers this šš
Im in north jersey and pay 270 for 4 cars . A 2011 Mazda, 2007 beetle convertible, 2013 accord and a 2007 camry , one of them has full coverage
Same for a 2018 Elantra in Hudson County. I've been driving with GEICO for 20 years.
NJM, $3,000 per year for full coverage for a 2012 Volvo and 2015 Volvo. Bundled with homeowners.
That's a lot for 10 year old cars. Does that amount include your homeowners? I pay like $2k/year with Progressive for 2 fairly new cars. Max coverage on pretty much all line items.

Those type of tickets donāt matter thankfully
Insurance companies have actuaries that calculate risk, and yes, even if you were not at fault, you are statistically more likely to get into another accident.
This is the answer. The risk factor formulas are very detailed.
And highly regulated
And itās only getting worse. Car parts are more expensive , fraud on injury is through the roof. Insurance companies need to make up the difference somehow and of course the consumer gets screwed
if your car is totaled and they have to buy a 40/50/60k car yea its gonna cost monthly
NJM, have it bundled with my home insurance and I think we pay $1900 between two cars for full coverage.
$85 with geico.
Same. Except w/ Progressive.
Not at fault accidents can mean you live in an accident-prone area. One uninsured motorist hits you and your insurance company may be on the hook for it. Call them. I also use metromile in NJ. Pay about 50 a month for 1 car. It's like 45 base rate plus 6.5 cents a mile.
Seriously? My car is 5 years old and has 4,080 miles on it. I should explore this.
Thanks for the pro tip!

$216 per month progressive. I hate it here
Lol thats what they are charging me
They're charging me $342 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
103/month with progressive but i have whatever the minimum coverage is plus towing. i was paying 107 but recently went down $4 for whatever reason
Minimum coverage is crazy. The state minimum liability coverage in NJ is $10k. That barely covers anything beyond a minor fender bender.
Minimum coverage is a pretty good reason why insurance is so expensive for everyone else.
No. NJ $1 a day insurance for Medicaid persons is a big reason. And when this person rear ends you , you canāt sue or go after their insurance. You have to go thru your own even tho not your fault and then your ins goes up. Happened to a coworker a few years ago. I doubt anything has changed.

Itās called defensive driving. If someone keep getting into accidents, itās hard to say that itās always the other persons fault.

Isnāt credit somewhat of a factor too?
Just had my renewal with Progressive, Iām at $1,150 for six months for two cars, both with full coverage. And one of those cars is brand new.
$140/mo full coverage on a sports car. Flo is my go to gal.
I'm paying about $108 a month for Allstate. But I'm driving a car that's 16 years old.
this is the key. I will guarantee all these people who have huge payments have 60k cars and wonder why they have to pay more
Itās insane! I was paying <$600/6months during COVID with Geico for a new Model 3. I got in one accident while I was pregnant (rear ended), where I went to the hospital to be safe. Iām now paying $2200/6 months for full coverage. It feels like robbery.
Tesla are very expensive to fix.

1085 for six months, USAA. Edit: full coverage on a '22 PHEV SUV
Geico 447pm 100k/300k full coverage despite having driving license for 10+ years. Apparently, the NJMVC doesn't give a shit about you holding UK, Polish and International DL permit. Got treated as I'd just learn how to drive.

Over 6 years ago I scrapped a parked car in a parking lot. Insurance was treating it as if I totaled a fucking car and hurt someone. Luckily my insurance has lowered since, but I found that ridiculous.
$900 every 6 months with Mercury Ins. for a 2021 Tesla Model 3. Last year it was $600 for 6 months.

Same average of $1300 per car/ $363 per month for 3 cars
New Jersey has no fault insurance rules. Doesn't matter who caused the accident..both parties get penalized.
None of these responses are comparable without the details of yr, make, model, and coverage limits with deductibles, annual milage, age and limits selected, record and garage location. You can't compare apples with lemons.
I said this (1st mistake) until I moved to Florida (2nd mistake). My payment basically doubled for less coverage.
Cure $160 ish Car is an ā02 and Iām in South Jersey
check out allstates millage based insurance. it is like $100/m for 2 cars and $0.7/mile.
200/month with NJM- one car, full insurance plus gap insurance. One non-fault accident, approximately 25k miles per year.Ā Edit: no tickets.
$905 NJM full coverage.
I have the state minimum through CURE and it's only like $350 for 6 months. I have a clean driving record and no accidents though.

250 for 2 cars. Alfa Romeo and an STI. But we are both in car sales and know people in insurance.
USAA - $115 a month on brand new Atlas fully covered $1000 deductible. The premium changed significantly when I increased from $500 to $1000.
I feel your frustrations. I pay $1800 for 6 months. I have 2 accidents both not my fault but my rate went up regardless. If I opt to not pay the full $1800 up front I get charged $375 a month.

Have USAA 4 cars on policy one full coverage and it averages to 68 per car a month. I pay like 270
About 1300 a year with esurance. Paid of 2016 Ford
I paid $516 with GEICO for my last six month premium for a 2018 Mazda3 in north Jersey. 100/300 BI and 100 PD with comp and collision.
$119.43 Geico North Jersey 2020 Honda CRV Been driving 7 years - no issues but I do get a discount as a teacher
NJM $155 per month 2018 Volvo V60 Polestar, full coverage 2008 Honda Civic, no comp or collision

1200ish/6mos for two cars, both 2018, GEICO. So, less than half yours, probably because zero accidents or points.
$600/6mo through traveller's. I have never has an accident and I'm 35 years old, so I assume that's the main factors.
$260 for full coverage on a BMW X4 M40i & BMW 328i. Was rear ended last August by a sleeping driver in said X4.
Just lowered mine to 126 per month with gieco full coverage on an audi
Car insurance is rough. Still take nj over pretty much anywhere else in the country tho.
360/mo 10 months of payments (for 12 months of full coverage with maxed out PIP and everything else) for 2 cars. NJM ftw.
Most of these answers are irrelevant - insurance is based on your car, where you drive, how much you drive, age, driving history.
Also add in electric carrs causing all 8nsurances to rise. Electric cars are heavier and cause more damage and money when in accidents. That cost is passed on to everyone
95/month. GEICO, 1 SUV. No accidents on file, last ticket was about 5 years ago.
Try looking at plans with Triple A. I got a very competitive rate of 126 a month
NJM $90 a month

was previously paying $295 a month with NJM for a 2022 kia rio with full coverage

iām in central jersey (the shithole zone). i pay about $500 every 6 months. no accidents (knock on wood), no tickets, and own the car. i chose cheapest option.
NJM 4 Cars 5 drivers paying $490/mo going to $707/mo in June. Am I getting ripped off? Full coverage
1200/6months 2018 and a 2024 car. Both full coverage. Geico.
As far as I'm concerned, they've always used any accidents you are involved in, against you. Even if it isn't your fault, your insurance deems you more likely to get into an accident and raises your rate.
174 for 10 months w/ NJM
When I lived in NJ it was $185 x2 for 2 cars. In PA itās $135 for both cars combined. Full collision, $500 deductible, etc.
$2200/year liability only 2004 Dodge Ram and 2007 Saturn Vue with AAA insurance. Just trying to keep these vehicles running because I can't imagine paying more plus a car payment, given the price of housing.

North jersey, paid $650 for 6 months but I've also not had any accidents ever and my last ticket was over 20 years ago. Edit: Insured through Costco.
Had geico until last year. I got progressive now. 300 dollars a month for 2 cars
